⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯ ⋆✦⋆ ⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯
You felt awful. Donghyuck never showed you any signs of stress. His life was so busy, even at his older age, he worked hard as a singer and member of NCT, and even harder as a father to your two young children, Dalgun and Kyungah, who were eight and three years old. He loved his life, he had everything he could possibly want, but you knew things were a lot for him to deal with. The two of you had already tried to take a breather when your daughter Kyungah was born, moving back to Donghyuck’s home of Jeju for a short time. It was beautiful, life was quiet and idyllic, having picnics on the beach and playing in the fields of pink muhly together. But, Donghyuck was constantly called back to Seoul for work, so it was decided that Seoul was the best place for your family to be together. Donghyuck worked so hard to provide for your family, schedules took up large amounts of his day. He would only ever occasionally reveal his worries, telling you that he wanted to be there for your children more and how guilty he felt at his own absence. So now, when you’re staring down at a positive pregnancy test, another type of sick feeling settles in your stomach. Surely this would add so much more weight to Donghyuck’s stress.
‘Mummy/mommy?’ Kyungah knocks on the bathroom door, interrupting your train of thought. You quickly shove the test under a stack of flannels.
‘Hi sweetheart,’ you open the door, ‘sorry I went away for a few minutes.’
Kyungah doesn’t seem to mind, ‘will daddy be home soon?’
‘I don’t know, angel, why don’t we give him a call?’
‘Please!’ Kyungah crawls onto your bed, sitting up against the headboard, you sitting down beside her and pulling up FaceTime on your phone.
‘Hi baby,’ Donghyuck picks up after a few rings. He’s hunched over his phone, black North Face puffer almost swallowing him whole, black mask pulled up around his face. His eyes look heavy and worn, clearly from his long day.
‘Hi daddy, someone wanted to say hi,’ you pan the camera to Kyungah, whose head is resting on your shoulder. Donghyuck’s eyes brighten at the sight of your daughter.
‘Hi Kyungie,’ you can’t see his mouth, but you can tell how widely he’s smiling.
‘Daddy, are you nearly finished?’ she asks, you stroke her hair as she cuddles you.
’I’m nearly done, sweetheart,’ he confirms, ‘I took my makeup off, look.’
He pulls his mask down slightly, showing a red spot on his face that would usually be covered with concealer, making Kyungah giggle.
‘Just wrapping up, then daddy will come straight home.’
‘Okay,’ Kyungah smiles, ‘I made you a drawing today.’
Donghyuck’s eyes widen, ‘ah, thank you angel, I can’t wait to see it.’
‘Kyungah, honey, why don’t you go make sure it’s all ready to give to daddy?’ you suggest, wanting to speak to Donghyuck alone for a minute.
‘Okay!’ Kyungah shuffles off the bed, toddling away towards the shared playroom.
‘Are you alright?’ Donghyuck suddenly looks concerned, wondering why you’d had Kyungah leave.
‘I don’t know,’ you answer truthfully, ‘had a super long day.’
‘You look exhausted,’ he sighs, and you laugh dryly.
‘I am. I- can we talk when you come home?’
‘Are you sure everything’s okay?’
‘I just want to talk,’ you know you’re likely worrying him further, but you don’t have the will to say that things are okay.
‘Alright, we’ll talk,’ he hums, ‘I love you, I’ll be home soon.’
‘I love you too,’ you smile weakly, ‘I’ll see you soon.’
Donghyuck arrives home less than an hour later, both of your children running to meet him at the door.
‘Hey, you guys should be in bed! It’s too late to be this excited,’ Donghyuck takes the both of them into his arms regardless, squeezing them and pinching their sides.
‘Come on, you two, let daddy breathe.’
The kids remove themselves from Donghyuck, but are still excitable.
‘I think it’s your bedtimes,’ Donghyuck announces, the two kids groaning.
‘But you just got here,’ Dalgun whines.
‘Bedtime doesn’t change,’ Donghyuck shakes his head, motioning up the stairs, ‘lets get ready for bed, Lees.’
The kids go through their bedtime routine, you and Donghyuck supervising as they brush their teeth and wash their faces, each sleepily wandering to their bedrooms.
You both read a story to Kyungah first, with her being the youngest, Donghyuck kissing her forehead and murmuring a ‘good night, angel’ before flicking on her nightlight and leaving her to sleep.
Dalgun, being older, only takes a kiss and a cuddle as a goodnight, before you and Donghyuck are left alone.
‘Hey,’ Donghyuck wraps his arms around your waist from behind, ‘you okay?’
‘I have to tell you something,’ you mumble, ‘sit down.’
Donghyuck removes himself from you, sitting down on your bed.
‘I- I didn’t feel too well, the other day,’ you begin, standing in front of him, fidgeting with your fingers.
‘I know,’ Donghyuck nods, ‘do you still feel unwell? Do you need me to stay at home with you and the kids? Because I can-‘
‘Hyuck, I thought I might be pregnant.’
Donghyuck’s eyes widen, ‘you think you’re pregnant?’
His expression is hard to read, he looks equally shocked and unnerved.
‘Hyuck, I know I’m pregnant.’
His face grows softer, but he still doesn’t react much.
‘I’m sorry,’ you begin to ramble, his head snapping up, ‘you’re so busy. You work so hard for us and you have so much on your plate, even without the children, I mean, we already had to leave Jeju, I should’ve been more careful and-‘
‘Hey, don’t say that,’ he’s grinning, arms reaching out to hold your waist, ‘come here.’ You hide your face in his neck, feeling some slight reassurance as he reaches a hand to your hair and begins running it through his fingers.
’This is good,’ he’s smiling widely into your head, ‘this is a good thing.’
You sniff, tears swimming in your eyes, ‘but-‘
‘No, stop that,’ Donghyuck gently pulls you down onto his lap, ’I know it may feel like I’m so busy all the time, and I’m sorry. I have honestly been thinking recently that I need to cut down, I miss the three of you and I miss Jeju. I’ve enjoyed my career.. but I want to be with my family even more.’
You pull away, reaching into the pocket of you hoodie to show Donghyuck the positive test.
‘Wow,’ he sighs in disbelief, breaking into the widest most genuine smile you’d seen from him in a long time, ‘we really made another baby.’ He presses a long kiss to your cheek, arms still secure around your waist.
‘I’ll start cutting down,’ he declares, ‘before it’s too late, we’ll move back down to Jeju. Give our children the life we’ve always wanted to give them.’
‘You love your work..’
‘I love you, Dalgun, Kyungah and this baby so much more.’
‘We love you too,’ you smile tiredly, lifting your shirt a little.
Donghyuck practically melts, despite the fact there’s no change to you yet.
‘Oh, angel, I would do anything for you,’ he tilts your head down, kissing you deeply, before sinking down and kissing your stomach, ‘and all of our babies.’

I think that Steve and Bucky would have a pollinator garden in front of their home, populated with native plant species, instead of a traditional ones, and I think their favourite would be pink muhly grass because it's so soft and pretty.

🍂 🍂 🍂 🍂 🍂 🍂 🍂 🍂🍂 🍂 🍂 🍂
The summer heat was finally coming to an end; the days are still warm and balmy and the nights are just brisk enough for a light sweater. You love the cooler weather but autumn always reminds you of him. You haven’t seen him for almost two years, yet somehow you can still smell him when the weather shifts. He habitually changed scents during seasons, going from a woody, summer coconut to a fresh, citrusy spice. Just like the cozy, autumn air that clings to your skin, you can still feel his embrace during those lazy days when the cool air would blow through the apartment windows.
Your relationship just wasn’t at the right time; he was always tired, never wanting to leave the apartment, and always busy with work. The few days he had off would be spent aimlessly scrolling social media, or catching up with friends. It slowly caused a rift that eventually pushed you away. You never stopped loving him though. He was a sweet person and very affectionate when he took the time to shower you with attention. He just couldn’t balance it all. You never faulted him, instead you blamed the universe, and maybe in another time it could've worked. The relationship ended and you both parted ways on bittersweet terms.
September is the month of cosmos flowers and today you were treating yourself to a stroll through Olympic Park. You slip into a denim blue, button-up blouse half tucked into a long flowy white skirt with blue dalmation print. Finishing the look with white low top sneakers and a cross-body clutch, you head to the train station.
The orange cosmos and pink muhly grass were in bloom and you need to give your eyes a break from all the computer work you’ve been doing. The trails twist and turn along streams and ponds then through fields of colorful flowers and tall grass. You take in all the beauty, snapping pictures here and there, then walk through the center of the pink grass to get the perfect selfie. Finally away from all the tourists, you reach a spot with no one around, you take a deep breath in through your nose and catch the light scent of freshly mowed hay. With your nose in the air you take a few steps forward then you stumble into something and fall to the ground on your hands and knees. Suddenly the aroma strongly changes to something familiar—fresh citrusy spice. You look back to see what you tripped over and there he is staring right back at you, mirroring your wide eyes and frozen in place.
“Jungkook?!”
“YN?!”
He quickly stands and grabs your wrist pulling you up onto your feet. You both wipe at your clothes, dusting any dirt off.
“I’m so sorry, I knelt down to tie my shoe.” He reaches toward you and brushes your hair behind your ear.
You nod your head and ask, “How have you been?”
“Okay, I guess. You?”
“Same.” You’re momentarily hypnotized. He’s still the most handsome man you’ve ever seen. His dark eyes shine under the bucket hat he has on. “Happy belated birthday, by the way.”
“You remembered my birthday?”
“How could I forget?” Your stomach flips at his smile.
“Thank you. You look as gorgeous as I remember.”
You playfully roll your eyes, “You’re not too bad yourself, Jeon.”
“So, what brings you here?” He asks while blushing, never taking his eyes away from yours.
“I needed a break from work. I wanted to get here before the festival starts and brings in more crowds. What about you? It was never really your thing to come to these places.”
“I wanted to try something new.”
“That’s really good you’re doing new things for yourself– or someone?” Suddenly you feel uneasy at the possibility that he may be in a new relationship, doing the things you always begged him to do with you.
“Myself. There is no one else. What about you? Are you seeing anyone?”
“No, I’m not.” You both fidget in place, your hands roaming to find something to hold, so you grab the strap of your purse and he shoves his hands into his pockets.
“Do you think we could catch up? Get a coffee or something? I–I’ve changed, and I’d really like to talk with you.”
“My number hasn’t changed,” you say as you look down at your feet, hoping to hide your rosy cheeks. He pulls out his phone and sends you a text.
“Now you have mine.” He smiles and gestures around to the field of muhly grass. “I came this far off the path to take a selfie.” He laughs.
“Yeah, me too. I guess no one else wants to walk this far.”
“Maybe we can take each other’s pictures?”
“Sure, why not.” You both pose and take photos for each other, surrounded by the beautiful pinkish-red tinted grass.
“Do you maybe want to keep walking around, together?” he suggests after putting his phone away.
“I’d like that. What do you have left to see?”
“I just got here, so everything.”
“Me too.” You look into his eyes and feel like you’re being pulled in by some type of force. Realizing you’re staring, you smile and look away while he chuckles. The attraction between you two is still very much there and you can’t help but wonder if the universe is helping you two find your way again, at the right time.
Continuing along the trails, you both take more photos with orange cosmos that look like pinwheels atop slender stems and silver grass of white and bronze ends weeping toward the ground. You take more pictures on a rainbow bridge, visit the museums, and a musical fountain before realizing you've been walking and talking for hours.
“Are you hungry? I’d love to finish chatting and catching up with you over lunch,” he grabs your hands, “maybe even ice cream too?” Ice cream is your weakness. No matter how full, how sad, or how grumpy you are, ice cream is the answer.
“Lead the way, Jungkookie.” You both smile not only with your lips but your hearts and he holds his arm at an angle for you to snake your hand through the triangular hole, holding onto his bicep while you walk.
You’re sitting in a yakiniku cafe grilling meats and vegetables, catching up on the years and sometimes reminiscing on your past memories. He had some time off and he became aware of his loneliness. He worked hard as a journalist never having time for himself to enjoy life. He’s a little older now, and wiser, which made him reflect on the past and decide to make some changes.
“So I told myself, I needed to go out and have fun and see things. The first thing that came to mind was the place you asked me for months to take you to,” he hangs his head in shame.
“Hey,” you reach out and grab his hand, “it’s okay. The past is the past. I’m glad you’re taking care of yourself.” He grasps your hand.
“You have no idea how happy I am that I went today. I didn’t think I’d ever run into you again. It’s like–”
“The universe is giving us a second chance?” you chime in, hoping you’re on the same page.
“Exactly.” You both shyly smile and look at your hands, interlaced together as one.
🍂 🍂 🍂 🍂 🍂 🍂🍂 🍂 🍂 🍂 🍂 🍂
Hours turn into days, days turn into weeks, and soon it’s two months into being together again. Everything started out perfect, like a dream, it was as if Jungkook really did learn from the past and is making sure not to repeat his mistakes. He spends time with you, makes you a priority, and even enjoys fun, new experiences with you.
Laying in his bed with sheets half covering your naked bodies, Jungkook says, “Stay the night. I don’t want you to leave.”
“Don’t you have work tomorrow?”
“Yes, but you can lock up when you leave. Or we can leave together, I’ll go in later.”
“But if you go in late, you’ll get home late,” you roll onto your side to face him.
“You tell me what you want and I’ll do it, YN,” he smiles and runs his hand softly over your arm.
“What if I said,” you lower your voice and prop yourself on your elbow to whisper in his ear, “I want to make you feel good all night.”
“I would say let’s get it!” he scrunches his nose and smiles, turning his body toward you but you place a hand on his shoulder and gently push him back to laying on his back.
He gasps softly when you graze over his thickening cock. Then whimpers when you wrap your fingers around, squeezing just a little, stroking just a bit. His hips rock as he lets out another mewl. You press your lips against his neck, “I love the pretty sounds you make as I build you up.”  His hands snake in your hair and he pulls you in for a kiss. He moans against your lips and you feel his body tremble against yours. You slide a leg across his thighs, taking your place in his lap. You squeeze his shaft and slide him into your wet core perfectly, sinking down until he’s deep inside you.
“Fuuuuck, YN.”
“Mmm you fill me so good, Jungkookie.”
You roll your hips, savoring his soft groans. You lean onto his chest to meet his lips again, sliding to the tip and then back down in long smooth motions. Jungkook whines then cups your breasts as you sway above him, sucking your nipples hungrily. He runs his tongue over your swollen nubs then teases them between his teeth eliciting a sharp hiss from you.
“Am I making you feel good Kookie?”
“You have no idea. I’m about to fucking bust,” he pants into your breasts.
“Cum inside me, fill me with your love.” Jungkook holds your hips down as he thrusts up into you, the squelching sound bringing him to an end. You lick and bite his earlobe while moaning into his ear as he empties inside you.
“That. Was. Fucking. Amazing.” He holds onto you while guiding you over onto your back with his dick still inside you, “I’m going to kiss you until I’m hard again, and then fuck you like a good girl deserves. You we’re so fucking hot for that. Now it’s your turn to feel good.”
🍂 🍂 🍂 🍂 🍂 🍂 🍂 🍂 🍂 🍂🍂 🍂
Something changed and this week your emotions are all over the place. Jungkook canceled plans and didn’t have as much time for you, again. You didn’t want to address the elephant in the room but not doing so was slowly and silently eating away at your soul.
You were working from home today and decided to rest your eyes for just one minute but that minute lasted hours as you slept peacefully with the cool air drifting around the apartment. You wake up to gentle kisses along your bare thighs and his hand rubbing your legs.
“You’re here already? What time is it?” you ask while giving a small stretch and reaching for him.
“It’s only 3 p.m. You weren’t answering your phone so I just let myself in.” He leans into your arms and rests his head on your chest while you run your fingers through his hair.
“Oh sorry. I ended up taking such a long nap. Did you get off work early?”
“No, I came over because you weren’t answering and– I have to tell you something.”
“We’re not going to the lantern festival, are we?”
“I have a deadline that I really need to finish tonight.” Your hand stops at his words as he embraces you tighter.
“Jungkook.”
“I know. I’m so so sorry, I just–it’s a bad time right now with all the holidays and festivals coming up.”
Clearing your throat you repeat, “Bad time?” You move yourself enough to where he gets the hint and frees you from his hold. Now sitting up and facing each other you can talk.
“You know what the holidays are like for me–for journalists.”
“But wouldn’t it be better to write about something after actually going and experiencing it?”
“Please, YN.”
“Please what? You’ve canceled on me twice this week alone. It’s like we’re falling into the same pattern as last time. I can’t do that again. I can’t give you all of me and only get pieces of you.”
“You know how important this season is, please, last chance. After tonight, it won’t happen again. I know it won’t.” He pleads while gripping your hands firm with his.
“You can’t know that.” Your eyes fill with tears and you don’t even try to stop them. You close your eyes and let out a deep sigh.
“YN, I’ll make it up to you, I promise. The lantern festival has another week left and–and there’s another place you wanted to go, what was it called?” He’s frantically trying to console you, his hands rubbing your arms then pulling you into a hug, trying to make right of the situation.
“Nami Island,” you respond flatly against his shoulder.
“Yeah, there. We’re going! I promise!” His voice is too cheery for the setting and mood he just evoked. Irritating your core, but you were tired of talking already.
“‘Kay. Sure.”
“We’ll even get ice cream,” he tries to joke and lighten the mood.
You scoff and roll your eyes but can’t help but give a soft smile, “Whatever.”
“You’ll see, YN. You’ll see.” He continues patting your back with one hand and wiping away your tears with the other. Silently promising himself that this would be the last time he made you cry sad tears.
🍂 🍂 🍂 🍂 🍂 🍂🍂 🍂 🍂 🍂 🍂 🍂
What you didn’t know was he was making plans. Being with you was everything he wanted after he did some self reflecting. He wasn’t going to mess it up again but the days he had to cancel on you, there was no way around it. The first day he canceled because the jeweler customizing something very special for you took way longer than expected and the rush order needed to be perfect. The second time was a rescheduled meeting with your brother and parents, getting approval for something very special. He took off work and had it set for the morning but your brother had to push it back, causing Jungkook to miss your planned adventure. The last time was because he got the call to pick up your rushed jewelry and the shop would be closing for two weeks. He had to pick it up and cancel on you so as to not ruin his grand plan. He’s disappointed in himself for all the misfortunes that happened but it wasn’t under his control and he can’t tell you, not yet. The universe brought you to him again and he surely wouldn’t mess it up ever again. He knew in his bones that you two were destined by fate.
Jungkook kept his promise and made sure you both made it to the lantern festival, together. He will never forget the way your eyes lit up during the parade at the hundreds of ornate paper lanterns, your favorite lantern being the big, colorful dragon with all its intricate details. The way your body swayed to the music and how you clapped for the folk dance performers that gave their heart and soul to the tradition.
🍂 🍂 🍂 🍂 🍂 🍂🍂 🍂 🍂 🍂 🍂 🍂
Nami Island; a place you haven’t visited since you were an adolescent with your family. You have beautiful memories here of various paths lined with sky-high trees, and a wooden riverside walking path with stunning views of the lake and surrounding mountains.
“Jungkook! Let’s ride the couples bike!”
“Anything you want, YN.”
You both set off along the paths, feet perfectly in sync. As you pass pastures of sheep and alpaca you tell Jungkook the memories you have of them when you were younger. You stop at a faded red and teal temple perfectly nestled between tri-color leaves and take pictures.
Jungkook pulls you into him, kissing your forehead, “I hope you’re happy, YN.”
You hum into his chest before saying, “I am, Jungkookie. I am.”
“Do you smell that?” he asks while sniffing the air like a curious puppy.
You can’t help but giggle, “You’re going to love this, let’s go.”
You both hop back on the bike and head in the direction where the smell is coming from.  As it gets stronger, Jungkook’s mouth begins to water.
“I smell gochujang! Please tell me we are going to eat whatever smells this good!”
You stop in front of a restaurant that mimics the temple you just saw.
“Welcome to the infamous Nami Island Dakgalbi!” You stand in front of the sign like Vanna White.
“You’re seriously the cutest woman I have ever met,” he wraps his hands around your waist and kisses your cheek.
“You’re not too bad yourself, Jeon.” You poke him in the ribs and grab his hand, leading him into the restaurant.
The perfect crisp weather dish, spicy chicken stir-fried with rice cake and vegetables, is delivered soon after being ordered. The gochujang hits your tongue and the spice stimulates your taste buds causing your mouth to tingle while the sweet flavor cools and soothes soon afterward. Jungkook talks about how the gummy rice cake and crunchy vegetables go together nicely with the sauce and you notice his eyebrows are furrowed, a sure sign he loves it. You want more of these moments with him, forever.
After lunch, Jungkook finds an ice cream shop and you split a flavor since it’s a little chilly and you’re both stuffed from the delicious dakgalbi. You sit on a bench around some cute animal statues to eat the ice cream. After a few bites, you shiver a little and he pulls off the flannel tied around his waist, placing it around your shoulders.
“Thanks. I guess I should’ve brought a heavier outer layer,” you admit.
“Once we get moving, you’ll warm up again. Besides, I don’t need it. It was just to look cute for you.”
“You’re always cute, Jungkookie.” You take the cone and boop his nose with the ice cream. His jaw drops dramatically and eyes widen until his lips and cheeks rise into a deep smile.
“You’ll pay for that!” he jokes playfully, lightly tickling your sides, causing the cone to go crashing to the ground. You both stare at it, then at each other and giggle.
“Whoopsies! That was all your fault though.”
“Yeah, yeah,” he says playfully, “What’s next on our agenda?”
“My favorite tree path! To the Ginkgo Tree Lane!”
With each pedal of the bike, Jungkook’s heart beats faster. He couldn’t wait to get to your favorite place but more so he couldn’t wait to surprise you. He could slowly see the gold and brown colors ahead.
“Let’s leave the bike here and stroll through the path on foot,” he suggested. You had no hesitation, already in awe of the beauty before you. Jungkook reaches for you and you walk hand in hand through nature. The prehistoric trees lined perfectly on either side of the walkway. Their bushy branches and fan-like leaves meet together above the path creating a tunnel over anything below. The optimal mixture of yellow and orange leaves above your heads and below your feet, crunching under each step.
“Can you believe these trees live for thousands of years?”
“They symbolize longevity or something right?”
“Are you trying to impress me, Jeon Jungkook?” You look at him and place your free hand over your heart.
“I may have read a s—sign or s—something,” his nerves take ahold of his vocal chords.
“Are you cold? Take your flannel,” you suggest, moving to take the shirt off of you.
“No, no! I’m fine now.”
“This place really is beautiful,” you say with your eyes attentively studying the textures and colors of the trees. Jungkook’s eyes are fixated on you though.
“Yes, you really are beautiful,” he replies.
You stop and look at him, “Not me silly, the view! Look at this place. It’s absolutely magical.” You spin around and pull Jungkook’s arms around your waist with your back toward him, “Breathtaking.”
Jungkook takes his hands from around your waist and you shiver at the loss of connection. You turn to face him and he presses his lips to yours, placing both hands on either side of your jaw. Pulling away he says,  “YN, I love you more than I can put into words. I want to forever be on this ride of life with you and whatever our destination is,” he doesn’t break eye contact while simultaneously lowering to one knee, pulling out a small box, “I’m ready to start our new chapter.”
“Jungkook!” you shriek and fall into his arms.
“Is that a yes?”
“I love you! Yes, yes! A hundred times, yes!” You sprinkle him with kisses all over his face. He giggles and grabs your hand to place the ring on your finger. He stands both of you up and places his forehead on yours. Your eyes on your newly adorned finger as he admires you.
As if the universe wanted to assure its presence, a soft breeze sweeps through the chestnut tree trunks, sending the vivid amber leaves swirling around you, giving off the appearance of celebration confetti.

hey! my parents recently bought a house near orlando and the yard leaves much to be desired. they are already planning on changing a lot of the garden, do you know of any good low-maintenance plants they could plant? unfortunately they are snowbirds so they won’t be around to maintain anything in the summer
thanks for reaching out! it would be awesome if your parents could get a lot of natives for their yard. it is healthiest for the environment and makes for a very low maintenance yard because the plants are in their natural habitat
you can get some ideas of plants to use here:
and you can find native plant nurseries here:
ive heard great things about The Natives and Green Isle Gardens, which i dont believe are in orange county but are still nearby.
you may be able to hire a native plant nursery to do landscaping for you or offer you a consultation
as general advice i immediately suggest replacing as much lawn grass as you can with Phyla nodiflora, known as f(r)ogfruit. its low growing, hardy, adorable, spreads easily, and is good for pollinators. very popular with native gardeners.
muhly grass is a beautiful landscape plant and it is not in the plants best interest to be maintained but people are insistent upon giving it a terrible buzzcut. it doesnt need this. it looks like a normal bushy grass most of the year but in the fall blooms into a beautiful feathery puff of pink-purple.
Tumblr media
i also think it would be nice to get yourself a beautiful longleaf pine, Pinus palustris (NOT slash pine or loblolly!)
im not super familiar with the landscape of orlando, so i think it might be rewarding to check out some nearby natural areas for inspiration as well. if you do, try taking pictures of what you find and posting them to iNaturalist so people can weigh in on your finds and you can learn more about them. i would be happy to help ID for you if you send me your username
i wish you the best! we can use all the restorative landscaping we can get!

Ooh, could I read a little more about Petrichor? I love that word.
Hi! Thank you for asking, you absolutely can read more about Petrichor!! (I love that word, too. And the feeling. And the smell.)
So Petrichor is the short epilogue series (that I've put off far too long) to Point of No Return - an Ezra story with a female OC named Clara who I basically want to be. The main story follows Ezra and Cee after the events of the movie, back to a place - and a person - that Ezra once called home. It takes place on my version of Kamrea, specifically on a Thulian Grass farm (think tall pink wheat stalks but fluffier like muhly grass). I've gone a little nuts with the lore/details/background of Kamrea as a planet in this series, but one of the main things that is referenced multiple times is the Rain Season (4 to 6 weeks of - guess what - rain) which comes at the end of the harvest. Petrichor will take place during that time, and it will tie up some loose threads from the main story. That's all I can say without spoiling either PoNR or Petrichor, but here's a small snippet that doesn't give too much away:
It was unlike anything she had experienced before.
Ezra and Clara had both talked about the rains that would come to wash over the world and how long they would last. They told her how it would start in drips and trickles, drizzling on and off for a few days as though announcing what was to come, letting everyone know that the monsoon was about to let loose. She heard about and tried to picture the way the streams would rise and spill over their banks, the clear water flooding the forest floor. But until she saw it running down the window panes, pooling in puddles on the lawn and turning the pressed dirt driveway to mud, Cee had no real context for the magnitude of Kamrea’s storm season.
This is more water than I’ve ever seen.
Leaning her temple against the cool glass, she looked out and up at the sky, at the endless churning of slate gray and deep purple clouds. The occasional rumble of thunder tumbled down as one cluster crashed into another. Sometimes it was low and distant, drumming out a slow beat. Other times it sounded like it was right over their heads, shaking the walls and rattling things on shelves. The first truly loud boom had made her jump and gasp, her eyes widening before they rushed to find Ezra’s across the table, frightened for a second that the roof might cave in or the ground would collapse.
“Not to worry, little bird.” He’d said it with a wink. “We’re safe and sound in here, I guarantee it.”

Pack your bags and come with Iris Muhly to stunning Seoul! She's an American ingenue way out of place and about to lose her job. Can the resident villain save the day? Maybe!

Opening pages below the break...
Need a book to read right now? All I Want For Christmas Is A Werewolf All I Want For Christmas Is A Reaper
Opening pages from the unproofed ARC (because my editor is still fixing things and I wanted to share today!).
Everi1/ShatteredEndings: Longtime lurker, first time poster, I’m really torn on how to vote for Shattered 5. I’m a Z-wysh shipper, but I don’t know if I can forgive Iris for dumping Jihun! - @ValL0vesM3 @MaxIsBae53 – You can’t come back from that. @xxUwUxx23 – SAME @EveriReader – Jihun would tell you to follow your heart. Until Our Darling says he wants Iris gone, don’t believe the gossip. The eighth reel is the one set up by the original author, and that means keeping Iris.
A decade or two ago my dark, chocolate brown hair might have drawn some attention as I got off the bus near Gongdeok Station in Seoul. My skin was a little too pink to be native, my height still a few centimeters taller than the average Korean woman's, my eyes double-lidded and noticeably western European. Today, no one seemed to notice. A few teens glanced at the bedraggled black and purple wig in my hand and the water-damaged fan sign for the hit TV show Shattered, but if they thought anything it was probably that I was a fan who'd gone to see the cast in their final appearance of the penultimate season four.
Absolutely no one shouted out "Wysha!" as I passed, even though that was the name of the purple-haired, mortal-turned-immortal I'd played since the season three finale. Even fans would have struggled to remember my legal name - Iris Muhly - simply because I was, as they said in Hollywood, an ingenue.
Unknown.
A random extra who wound up playing a major character for one season and was destined for a gruesome on-screen death if I didn't get things fixed.
Bitter cold winds rushed ruffled overhead holiday banners lining the alley as I hurried to my Yeonnam-dong apartment. It had been another very long day, with a four am call time so the principles of the cast could do a six am morning show followed by the teaser trailer for the upcoming fan vote. I'd escaped that at ten and rushed to the salon to get my poor, bleached hair treated, re-colored back its natural brown, and then headed home as the sky turned dark. It was only a little after five in the evening, but it was a bitingly cold December day and the sun was setting.
Somewhere over the sound of rushing cars I could hear someone learning that sound doesn’t carry well when it’s -20C outside. No, not even for cheery Christmas carols or romantic pop ballads about first kisses stolen between snowflakes. The winter weather this year consisted of a freezing drought, brutal winds, and none of the romantic snow the Koreans were all expecting.
"Fine by me," I muttered as I eyed the frozen blue sky. I had a plane ticket for a red-eye out of Incheon airport heading straight back to the good 'ol US of A. Home sweet... spawn point?
It was less about going home to somewhere good or safe and more about being in a place where my work visa wouldn't expire as soon as I was fired. Because my first acting gig was rapidly going from Going To Get Fired to Going To Get Fired And Blacklisted.
Hugging my black coat around myself against the cold I glanced both ways along a narrow street and dashed across the street in a way most likely to 1) get me hit by a passing car and 2) get me fined if any of the CCTV cams were working. Which, they weren't. The agency I'd signed a twelve-month contract with was paying for the apartment here in Seoul and they weren't springing for a luxury penthouse for someone who wasn't an actual star.
I ducked past the shops lining the ground floor - convenience stores, noodle shops, and pharmacies - fighting the wind with each step. Plastering myself to the side of the building I tugged off a thin gray glove long enough to punch in the six-digit door code.
The tinted glass door slid open with a soft whoosh of warmer air.
For the first time all day I could almost breathe easy. Granted, there were fourteen CCTV cams pointed along the entry way for the apartment building and two more doors to get through to get to the communal mail hall, but at least I was safe-ish when the doors locked behind me with a click.
It sounded delusional, but for the past week or more I'd felt like someone was watching me.
I'd pushed it off as a delayed response to eighteen-hour work days on set in front of cameras. Compared to the last fourteen months of filming and promotions this past week had been comparatively easy. The cast had split the interviews and appearances, I'd only been in six of the fourteen live things, done four signings, and only been physically threatened, oh, maybe a few thousand times.
With a glance at the heavily tinted windows I went through the next set of doors to the common area where a bank of TVs displayed everything from the local weather channel and the stock exchange to the celebrity news.
The same picture was on half the TVs: a Korean man so handsome my breath caught even though I’d spent the past fourteen months in close proximity with him. “Michyeosseo,” the word slipped past my lips in an angry huff and I wasn’t sure who was crazier, me or the fans on screen screaming  "J'aime Max!" and "Max Kang, je suis délicieux! Épouse-moi!" and the old stand-by, “Sauve-moi, roi des gargouille!”
I wouldn’t stand out in the cold to wave purple and black dragons at a camera for an anyone. Not even in Paris where all the rosy-cheeked teens were. Not even for pay.
Okay, well, that was a lie. Because I could unreservedly cheer for Max Kang for pay and absolutely had during at least one alternate-universe scene this season.
Shattered, the multinational television show that let viewers write the ending to the universally acclaimed series that started with the novel All These Broken Seasons, was all about merging alternate universe and looking at what could have been. The whole premise was two realities collided and the death of some fey[1] princess meant the people in normal Earth suddenly were confronting the people from a magical Earth.
Max Kang, easily one of the hottest men on the planet, played the big, bad villain: Zjarr Aabo. On the screen of the lobby TV Max was seated right next to the breathlessly hungry host who was eyeing his thin, black silk shirt with the undone buttons as if she could make the others fall off by wishing alone. He probably wasn’t currently sporting the chiseled Abs of Treason he flashed at least once a season, because getting that definition involved extreme dieting and dehydration that wasn’t healthy to maintain, but most of the audience didn’t know that.
Not that Max needed chiseled muscle to make him delicious.
He was a man who’d built his fame playing classic bad guys, and one of the highest grossing Korean actors. Black hair that somehow always looked sexily tousled, wide set black eyes, heavy eyebrows, a broad and expressive face, and the muscles of a man who spent every spare hour in the gym or with the show’s fight trainer. The fact that he could dance and sing was just icing on the slice of Hallyu Wave perfection that was Max Kang.
Light loved him.
There was a glow, and a natural presence that survived even the camera’s harsh glare. When Max stepped into a room every head turned. His dramatic baritone voice was rich and low enough to send a shiver up anyone’s spine.
The evil demon of a man certainly didn't need to look directly into the camera with his ridiculously incomparable dark eyes and wink as his lips curled into a perfect come hither smile that all but melted everyone in his line of sight.
No, he didn't need to do any of that.
But he did.
I rolled my eyes as I pushed the button and waited for the elevator. All of this was to sway the vote. No, make it The Vote. With sparkly letters and fancy fonts and everything.
All These Broken Seasons was the best selling fantasy series of the mid-21st century but it had a little problem... the ending didn’t exist.
Years ago the author had rudely died, or run away, or been kidnapped by Bigfoot. Something like that. One day they were in full contact and posting daily teasers for the untitled final fifth novel, and then they vanished. The jury was still out on what really happened.
Shattered was the answer.
Some studio had the rights, the author’s sudden disappearance gave them an opening, and they ran with it. Four, big budget seasons followed the books with a gratifying amount of accuracy[2] and now the fans got to vote on which ending we would shoot.
Since most the fans currently wanted to shoot me, the ending that promised my brutal death on screen was winning with eighty percent of the votes. Angel Xi, Shattered’s leading lady and the primary love interest of the hero, had oh-so-not-kindly told me that in Cantonese the word Four sounds like the word Death. Angel’s a sweetie like that.
The elevator opened and was empty, thank goodness. I stepped in and stabbed the close button before anyone could hop on.
Most of the building’s residents were polite enough to pretend they didn’t know me. Koreans weren’t fans of small talk as a rule, especially in Seoul, but things had been tense since the tabloids snapped pictures of Kim Jihun crying.
Tears weren’t the problem. Men could cry, and Jihun often did as the tortured, lovelorn hero of Shattered. The problem was that the tabloids had been snapping pics of me and Jihun hanging out for the past year and the world was convinced we were dating. If Jihun was smiling, I’d done something to make him happy. If Jihun was angry, it was my fault. If he was crying, I ought to die for hurting The World’s Darling.
Despite all the tabloid rumors, Jihun and I had never shared more than heartfelt glances on screen. He was my type, but I wasn’t his, and I was smart enough not to chase a man who didn’t want me.
[1] Fae? Fairy? Whatever. She was the typical All Powerful Magic Girl and she died at the end of the first book.
[2] I hadn’t read the books until after I’d been cast, and I really didn’t appreciate how much work went into adapting a book into a screenplay until I met some of the script writers. Suffice it to say, they deserved all the awards they kept winning and the full adoration of the fandom. Other fandoms wish they were this lucky.
