Hello! I’ve seen some of your stuff about the way PJO and the whole rrverse really treats the gods, and I was wondering if you had any thoughts on how it treated the Roman gods? To me it seemed like a weird decision to make the Roman gods a split personality instead of an entire separate being, because his basis for it is that the Roman gods are ‘ripoffs’ (for lack of a better term) of the Greek gods, even though the Greek gods did evolve from gods of other cultures as well?
(Also, apologies if this question has already been asked or if it comes off as rude or anything. I sincerely don’t mean it to be and couldn’t figure out a better way to phrase this question. This pet peeve of mine has been bugging me since I first read the series.)
To start with let me explain how worship of the Greek Gods can work.
One can include or exclude the Roman myths, as many are at least partially based in Greek mythos many take them into account. But one needs to remember that they are touched by another culture, another belief system.
The myths themselves do not make a basis of worship, they are not even a basis of knowledge on the Gods. They are fundamentally mortal, in scope, understanding, and context. The Gods are not as they are portrayed in the myths.
There are people who blend the Greek and Roman Gods, associating them thoroughly. This may be akin to a Roman living in a Greek province.
There are people who are firm on the split between the two, where they carefully cut out the Roman views on things as those are not their beliefs.
There are those that only worship one side, but don't particularly care about splitting all the details as they do have similar origin.
What Rick did... Does not fall under any form of worshipping them I've seen.
Rick effectively considered them the Same Yet Different. The Same enough to be one deity, yet different enough to have a distinct personality swap. Those considering the Gods the same would not have such a personality difference, they would be different aspects. And they would ALREADY have different aspects, by virtue of the fact that every city state has a different belief system, even if it's very similar across city states.
This could have worked, had Rick handled it properly. I would lean towards a need to note every individual epithet having a different personality, with the Greek and Roman split being even larger. And, of course, he would need to include the Etruscans.
While the Roman mythos is heavily Greek based, the Gods themselves? Those are more Etruscan based with the Greeks blended in. Instead of remembering this, he included the Etruscans in a side story and declared them mostly faded.
But, putting aside the Etruscan detail, Rick did not even keep to his different personalities detail. Sometimes they were different, other times there was no notable difference. Sometimes the Romans were strict on names, other times they didn't care.
He considered them separate cultures, up until Jason decided he wanted to actually be Greek, but also didn't want to use Greek terms, nor stay in the Greek camp, nor make Greek Temples- you can religiously convert, but Jason was clearly religiously AND culturally Roman.
The Romans, who hate the Greeks, also sometimes would just use Greek names? Most notably for Thanatos (Mors, Letum). The Romans would NOT have used the Greek name for Mors. We actually have several mythos examples of them using Mors, or Letum, or even the epithet Acherontis.
Rick wanted them the same, yet different, yet also vague enough he could make them more the same whenever it suited him. It was a soft system, but it also played at having hard rules. It didn't work out, and its very frustrating.
If it were me, and I am doing my own rewrite and am doing this, I would simply make them separate pantheons. There is simply too much cultural difference for me to consider them the same.
So in summary: my thoughts are "no" lol

3, 16, and 21 for the book ask game?

What were your top five books of the year?
The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry is a beautiful read, and is number one because it's always number one
i am going to cry so hard i wrote so much and then my computer crashed
What were your top five books of the year?
The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry is a beautiful read, and is number one because it's always number one in my heart.
Catch 22 by Joseph Heller is such a funny book that satirizes so much but all within the context of WW2, if you're going to read, make sure to check warnings because it's still a war book and the war WILL hit you in the face.
Bright Dead Things by Ada Limon is such a precious poetry collection. The line "I swear I will play on this blesses earth until I die" from "Miracle Fish" has stuck to me like glue. Her ability to capture so much of the human experience in a few words is so amazing, one of my favorite reads ever
The Six of Crows Duology By Leigh Bardugo are the most exciting action-packed books I've read in a minute. Every character has such purpose…. oh I love it so much I can't put it into words. I will move onto the rest of the Grishaverse as soon as I get my hands on it!
Discourse on Colonialism by Aime Ceasarie is interesting, it was written in the 1940s and is basically a long poem about how colonialism sucks, actually, and why the colonized peoples should come together to overthrow their colonizers. Super interesting, if you ever want to learn more about anti-colonialism sentiments, I highly recommend this poem!
16. I'm answering this in another ask!
21. Did you participate in or watch any booklr, booktube, or book twitter drama? I follow exactly one guy on "booktube" and it's this English teacher in California. (Colorless Wonderland, this is my favorite video of his, you can really see his passion for reading and I love people rambling about things <3) I have no idea what drama is going on there except for tropes? i think that was a complaint about how booktok books are just written as tropes with no real substance. But that's all second hand knowledge to me I'm a tumblr girlie through and through

For the character ask game, 9 for Octavian, 10 for Alabaster, 17 for Ethan?
Ty for the ask Pine 🌸
9. What do you think their favorite Disney princess would be?
Ok this hard 😂. I can see Octavian’s fav being Elsa maybe? If so Im very sure he’d make “Let it go” all about himself. Octavian is an Elsa kinnie??!?!?
And maybe Namaari from the Raya and the last Dragon.
10. Which would would they like more, Star Trek or Star Wars?
Star Trek all the way. Tho there’s not much info about it, but I’d like to think Alabaster’s dad got him into the show cuz he was an enthusiast. And later Al got his second dad, Dr Claymore, into it.
17. Would this character be good or bad at Mario Kart?
Bad. Well I mean he never really settled in CHB and I doubt he got the chance to play any video games in the Titan army.
Either way, irrespective of the story, I think he’d be better in the classic game instead of Mario kart.

Ethan's father sacrificed a lot after his birth to first just keep him for himself, and then when Ethan was 10 and there was a attack of monster, he sacrificed himself so that Ethan would survive.
Nemesis uses this to manipulate Ethan with his guilt over his father's death.
"did Kaito really die just so that our son would spend his whole life as another faceless shadow?".
inspired by the song Heaven Only Knows Bob Moses and I Bet on Losing Dogs Mitski I always think of them first when I fantasize about the family dynamics of Ethan and his father.

putting this into a separate post cause the first one was already pretty long but i wanted to reply to it -
tags from @pinetreetea - “#the big question is how do these demigods end up finding out about their respective parents & the rules of their pantheons #because non-claimed campers dont even know their godly parent #do the gods claim their kids in the wild somehow? #probably not but im so interested in how these kids figure out who their parents are #when they’re not claimed at a camp y’know“
OKAY SO, FUN THING ABOUT THIS: A rogue demigod being unclaimed or not knowing their godly parent actually benefits them! One of the weird universe mechanics that fell to the wayside later in the series was that once a demigod learned that they were a demigod, they would begin attracting monsters more frequently, and this would increase more once they learned about their specific godly parent. So theoretically based on that there is actually an incentive, to a degree, for rogue demigods to care even less about who their divine ancestor is. The less they know, the less risk they’re at from monsters - at least until they get old enough that the difference from the monsters tracking them by aura is negligible. Also, since so many rogue demigods are at odds with their divine ancestors, they may not be interested in discovering that in the first place.
If they are so inclined to, though, we do know that claiming ceremonies are not the only way for a god to claim a descendant, nor is claiming implied to be a camp-only thing. Nico was technically never formally claimed, for example. As far as we know Nico either just figured it out on his own and chased down his dad himself or was told by Minos/ghosts. Based on what we saw of Nico and Bianca in TTC and also Frank in SoN, if a demigod is not directly claimed then people will just start guessing based on what information they do know. Also, sometimes just everybody else around them does know who their godly parent is for one reason or another and could tell them - like Magnus! We also know gods will sometimes just randomly appear to their descendants on random occasions, and can directly verbally claim their descendants that way, and it’s implied that other gods can generally tell who a demigod’s divine ancestor is and could tell them if they feel like. Also, demigods could theoretically consult divination to try and figure it out, depending on what resources they have available, since augurs and oracles aren’t the only means of divination available to demigods.
so tl;dr: it’s actually very likely that a lot of rogue demigods are simply unclaimed, if anything just because it’s literally safer for them, but they also have some options to figure it out if they feel like it.

So, I have this idea...
A possible au or something where Selina, Ethan, and Luke are all connected and a team. But aspects of the Three Wise Monkeys as in see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil. Ethan obviously is particularly blind already so see no evil. Silena would be mute, so speak no evil, and Luke would be deaf, which would be the hear no evil.
Either a time travel fix-it with these three but the consequences are theses disabilities, OR they survive the war and suffer these consequences. OR they are given a second chance at life but having memory gaps similar to Percy and Jason WITH the consequences.
Thoughts? @yonemurishiroku @off-with-medusas-head @nakamurastorrington @pinetreetea I need answers for scientific purposes.

horizon tag game
tagged by the lovely @fogsblue and @pinetreetea thank you 💖
1. ride or die ship: I don't know that I can pick just one ship. Can I pick an OT3? Aloy/Nil/Kotallo has rotted my brain. I love all three of them so much.
2. most annoying ship: *insert Mad Max gif "That's bait"*
3. second favorite ship: Hmm... this is also a tough one. Including Fashav in any iteration with the the OT3 always makes things interesting.
4. favorite platonic relationship: Nil and Attah. One of my favorite little bits during the Gauntlet runs is when Aloy first appears at Dry Yearn and Nil gives up his spot for her. All he has to do is LOOK at Attah, and she knows exactly what he wants to do. That kind of understanding between two people is hard to find, and I love the idea that Nil has found that kind of friendship where words aren't needed.
5. Underrated ship: *bangs table* NIL/KOTALLO
6. overrated ship: See question 2
7. one thing i would change in canon: We are MISSING a Carja in the Gaia Gang, and it deserves to be Nil!
8. something canon did right: Growing Aloy's connection to the tribes through the Gaia Gang and the whole arc where she comes to realize she doesn't have to fight alone.
9. a thing i’m proud of creating for the fandom: Oof, hm. Creating the Nilysium server is probably one. There are so many great people in there, and I feel so fortunate that this fandom brought us all together. And then there's also my copious list of fics on AO3.
10. a character who is perfect to me: I mean, I think my fave is pretty obvious. Nil is complex and interesting and endlessly fun to write. Kotallo has some of the best, most thoughtful character development in the whole game. Aloy's journey is not done, but she's come so far and I love her so much.
11. character i relate to most and why: Uhhh... I'm not sure there any that I--nope, Alva. Alva has that whole hyperfixates-on-interesting-things-and-excitedly-chatters-to-whoever-will-listen thing going on that I definitely relate to. 🤣
12. character(s) i hate most and why: Oh man, there are a lot of great characters that are written intentionally for that love-to-hate vibe. Lansra, Resh, Ulvund, Tekotteh, Erik Visser, Ted Faro! I know it's cliche, but I love the simplicity of the one-dimensional villains that are JUST there for you to hate/defeat.
13. something i’ve learned from the fandom: This is the first fandom that I've really taken part in, and I've met so many amazing people. I feel like I've become a better writer, more organized and thoughtful. I never used to outline or keep track of my daily word counts until I joined this fandom. The little community we made in Nilysium is so nice and positive. I love you guys so much! *Group hug!*
14. three tags i seek out on ao3: Pfft. The Nil character tag. Completed works, because I hate waiting for updates. Niloy, if I'm feeling old-school. 🤣
15. a song i associate strongly with my otp/favorite character: I listened to this song so much while writing Toward the Sun, it's definitely become one that transports me into OT3 land when it comes on.

Pine 🌲 tree tea with honey 🍯 What’s so good about pine needle tea? Pine needle tea has a pleasant taste and smell (always a good start). It is rich in vitamin C (5 times the concentration of vitamin C found in lemons) and can bring relief to conditions such as heart disease, varicose veins, skin complaints and fatigue. Vitamin C is also an immune system booster which means that pine needle tea can help to fight illness and infections. Pine needle tea also contains high levels of Vitamin A, which is good for your eyesight, improves hair and skin regeneration and improves red blood cell production. It can be used as an expectorant for coughs and to help relieve chest congestion; it is also good for sore throats. It brings you clarity and mental clearness. It can help with depression, obesity, allergies and high blood pressure. Pine needles contain antioxidants. These reduce free radicals, which are harmful to humans and can cause disease. Taoist priests drank pine needle tea as they believed it made them live longer. There is researched evidence that pine needle tea can help to slow the ageing process. Pick some pine needles and let them soak in boiling water on your stove and it will add a crisp pine smell all over the house. Perfect for Christmas. #pinetree #pinetreetea https://www.instagram.com/p/CP67o6QrvKq/?utm_medium=tumblr

Ye!
10. Do you friends or family know about your Blog?
Yep yep 😂 3 friends and my mom actually are my moots. Rest of my friends only know I’m on Tumblr but not the blogs.
12. Do you have a bad habit?
My most prominent one is Meowing randomly. It’s been going on for 5 years now. I also occasionally respond by meowing. Funny enough, it’s easier for me to express emotions using different tones of meows than words lmaooo. My parents have become very accustomed and they can understand what I say Lmaoooo
I don’t remember exactly why I started doing this. I find it funny but my parents find it annoying at times
