Piet is Santa’s chief lieutenant, in charge of managing operations at the North Pole. When Piet met Santa, he was a young castle page on the eve of being made squire, but his lord was a wicked knight who had contrived to capture the saint.
Believing in both Santa’s innocence and his mission, Piet gave up his chance at knighthood and risked his own life in a daring bid to free Santa from the Spanish fortress castle in which the giftgiver had been imprisoned.
Piet soon learned that life as Santa's ward offered no fewer opportunities for adventure and honor than he'd have had as a knight, and when not out swashbuckling on behalf of the Pole's interests he devotes his time to expanding Santa's gifting to every corner of the world.
Hi Birdie! How're you doing? Have you had to break out the gloves and scarves yet?
My question this time is about Dutch. D'you know how to pronounce the name Piet? He's a character in my favourite series of books, a main character in one entire 400 page book and I just skipped over his name the whole time because I wasn't sure between Pete and Pee-ehtt lol
Hi Oddity! 🫂❤️❤️ I'm doing pretty good, thank you! How are you?
No scarves for me yet - it got chilly one day, but then it warmed back up, so it's actually been nice light jacket weather, which isn't common here! What about you?
Hmm, well, I'm not a native speaker, I'm still learning, so I could be wrong, but if I'm right, then Piet is pronounced like "peat" or yes, Pete. It's hard to describe and my pronunciation is terrible when I try to mimic it, but to my ear, Dutch has less emphasis on their P's than English does? So just like Pete, but gently on the P at the front, if that makes sense. 🤔 I hope that helps, rather than being more confusing!
If I may ask - what book series is it? 👀 If it's your favorite, that speaks highly of it! ❤️
