Vermilacinia combeoides
Bouquet sea-fog lichen
This fruticose lichen grows in stubby clusters of subcylindrical branches up to 4 cm tall out of a blackened central holdfast. The yellow-green surface is unevenly ridged and often dotted with black pycnidia. The cortex is rigid and often cracked where bent. It has round plate-shaped apothecia with a thin rim and a white-gray disc. V. combeoides grows on costal rocks from central California down to Baja, but more studies are needed to determine the extent of its range in Central America.

🚨💥🦠 NEW PRIMARY ENDOSYMBIOSIS DROPPED🦠💥🚨
A new haptophyte alga, Braarudosphaera bigelowii has managed to be cultured which contains what was thought to be an endosymbiotic nitrogen-fixing cyanobacyterium. Upon further study which was possible once B. bigelowii was cultured, it was shown that this purported endosymbiont imports proteins with a specific peptide tag from its host cell. This could indicate that the endosymbiont has lost part of its genome and transferred it to the host cell, which is the one who makes the proteins in those parts now. Along with the fact that it grows and divides synchronized with the host cell, this could indicate that the endosymbiont has become an organelle, which has been dubbed the nitroplast!
This would only be the 4th ever known case of primary endosymbiosis, after the original mitochondrion, the original chloroplast, and the cyanelles of Paulinella. This nitroplast, however, is remarkable for being the first ever known example of a nitrogen-fixing organelle in eukaryotes. This is of particular interest because it shows that potentially we could also engineer other eukaryotes (plants) to have a nitrogen-fixing organelle, which would remove the massive dependence on fertilizers as a nitrogen source in many plants, as they could fix it directly from the air!
B. bigelowii is also delightfully dodecahedral:

Chapter two:The dating handbook
Drink Dates,
but don’t do them.
(if you’re Looking for a relationship)
These days, going out for drinks is usually the go-to first date for millennial women who enjoy social drinking. It’s a low pressure way of getting to know someone and you can relax at the same time with your glass of Riesling. If you don’t like him, you can easily make an excuse and leave after your first drink. This was my main reason for having done a lot of drink dates throughout my dating life. That and the fact that I was afraid that if we do a dinner date, he might ask me to split the check. At least with drinks, if he wanted to split the check, it won’t be as expensive.
My outlook has changed since then.
Be girlfriend material. Make it expensive to take you out to filter out low effort men.
Accepting drink dates will not yield you men who are looking for relationships and it will place you in the category of a “fun girl” instead of a girlfriend/wife. If you’ve met a man socially and he asked you out on a date, requiring that he take you out to dinner will call for more financial investment on his part, which is one of the ways you can tell if a man is serious about you. Plenty of men offer drink dates because it’s a low financial investment on his part and it allows him to see as many women as possible. A man who only wants to do drink dates after you’ve stated that you only do dinner dates is a red flag and I would personally pass on that man. Remember that a lot of men do drink dates because they know that alcohol smoothes the way for sexual encounters.
What if you meet someone on a dating app? Now, should you still expect a dinner date from someone you’ve never met before? My answer is still yes. Online dating is notorious for attracting men who are only looking for something casual, so it’s even more imperative to only do dinner dates if they want to take you out in order to filter out low effort men. Before embarking on a date, do a pre-date phone call first to test for conversational compatibility and to make your expectations clear beforehand.
You need a sound mind to filter men.
Don’t drink during the first few dates with a man. Why? This will allow you to have a sound mind when it comes to filtering a man — does he pass your standards, does he have dealbreakers, does he seem like a good person? You need to be able to judge a man’s character with an alert mind. Being under the influence of alcohol makes you focus more on the “fun parts” of the date like how attractive he is and how much you like kissing him, instead of analyzing if he’s the right fit for you and if he’s boyfriend material.
So what should you do instead?
For first dates, I recommend dinner dates. You can do one in 90 minutes to an hour to see if you'd like to see him again. Do a pre-date phone call beforehand to see if you're on the right page, to communicate your expectations, and to make sure it's worth it to get all dressed up for him.
I've seen quite a few comments on this sub where women flat out tell a man that they don't do coffee dates and they expect to be taken out to dinner. I think there is a better way to do this that maintains your dignity and that also helps vet the man.
On occasions where I've had men suggest a low effort date. I have two go to responses:
"Thank you for the invitation, but that is not the type of date I'm accustomed to."
"Never mind, if it's too much trouble for you to plan an appropriate date, perhaps we're not a good match."
In my next blog,I’ll be discussing how to appear as a HIGH-VALUED WOMAN in a relationship, stay tuned!

I think it’s a member of the ceramiales because of the cortication it doesn’t match the main four similar genera (Spyridia, Centroceras, Ceramium, Wrangelia)

I have tried books.
I have tried primary literature.
I have tried online picture keys.
I will now resort to looking at pictures of these unidentifed algal cells on my computer screen and yelling "WHAT ARE YOU WHAT ARE YOU WHAT ARE YOU?!" and crying.

2nd attempt at Pediastrum! I’m liking this one a lot better so far. The cell walls are done with a split-stich, which I think looks really cool. It’s fairly easy as I’m learning new stitches.

ok Ima say something a little controversial
why do people look at evolution as If it is steadfast knowledge? I mean evolution does have ground, yes, but to say evolution is 100% proven to be true would be false.
I could make the same argument for creationism btw, "Oh but look at all this evidence toward a creator" yes yes evidence exists for both cases but that's not my point
My point is that people blindly put faith in a system of science that is a THEORY, evolution is a theoretical possibility for how the world came to be just as creationism is a theoretical possibility.
As I just pointed out yes there us evidence but evidence is nothing without the big picture. We have no clue how the world actually came to be and we shouldn't be fighting eachother over it.
A true scientist would go out of their way learn everything they can about the known universe and pick up all the little clues before deciding whether or not to support evolution theory or creation theory, it's basic math. (The dyscalcular person says)
All I'm saying is that I believe we let our views of the world get mixed too much into science, of course a Christian is more likely to study creationism and of course an atheist is more likely to study evolution. I'm not saying people don't do otherwise I'm just saying that's the most likely to be true.
Also as people who are not of science, we need to stop blindly trusting the world when it says the earth was made this way or that.
For hundreds of years people believed the sun circled the earth, they even has false evidence to prove themselves correct.
Im not saying that the sun circles the earth, I'm just saying that I believe everything and anything has the chance to be wrong, any if our world views could be shattered at any point in time.
Any thanks for listening to my Ted talk, I'm not a scientist, I'm a 15 year old sitting in my room ranting about shut I don't know.
Dont come after me.

Today is the last day of the first month, it feels weird I didn't really feel anything new when the year started, I didn't try to change anything in life. No resolution, no plans or goals. It feels weird as if I have been cast out by society and they are not even aware.
It feels good, aesthetic even, to be alone in my room, writing like crazy, paint on my own, watch murder documentaries. I don't mean to romanticize isolation, but seclusion is endearing in a way I can't explain.
Perhaps someday I will become exactly like people I see in movies and social media. But today I am me and I am grateful yet I feel cursed by some invisible calamity that is approaching.
It's all in your mind they would tell me. But my mind is my reality. I would hold onto something until I am out of here but there are times when I don't want that. I just perhaps want to stay, just differently.
The only issue remains that I don't know what that difference I want is, perhaps one day me and you, we will find that different that we all long for.
