We have three books on our radar for this week! You should check them out:
The Last Bloodcarver by Vanessa Le Roaring Brook Press
Nhika is a bloodcarver. A cold-hearted, ruthless being who can alter human biology with just a touch. In the industrial city of Theumas, she is seen not as a healer, but a monster that kills for pleasure. When Nhika is caught using her bloodcarving abilities during a sham medical appointment, she's captured by underground thugs and sold to an aristocratic family to heal the last witness of their father’s murder. But as Nhika delves deeper into their investigation amidst the glitz of Theumas’ wealthiest district, she begins to notice parallels between this job and her own dark past. And when she meets an alluring yet entitled physician's aide, Ven Kochin, she’s forced to question the true intent behind this murder. In a society that outcasts her, Kochin seems drawn to her...though he takes every chance he gets to push her out of his opulent world. When Nhika discovers that Kochin is not who he claims to be, and that there is an evil dwelling in Theumas that runs much deeper than the murder of one man, she must decide where her heart, and her allegiance, truly lie. And - if she's willing to become the dreaded bloodcarver Theumas fears to save herself and the ones she's vowed to protect.
Rules for Rule Breaking by Talia Tucker Kokila
Winter Park and Bobby Bae are Korean American high school juniors whose families have been friends since the kids were making crayon art. They, however, are repulsed by each other. Winter is MIT-bound, comfortable keeping people at arm’s length, and known by others as responsible, though she has a desire to let loose. This probably comes from her rebel grandmother, who is constantly pushing boundaries and encouraging Winter to do so as well. Winter’s best friend is moving abroad and won’t be attending college at all, and Winter’s wrestling with what it means to be left behind. Bobby is as Type-A, anxious, and risk-averse as you can get. He’s also been recently dumped, which has him feeling disoriented and untethered. That’s why, when Winter’s and Bobby’s parents insist that they go on a northeast college campus tour together, both teens find reasons to accept even though the thought of being stuck in a car together for 700 miles sounds unbearable. What awaits them is a journey of self-discovery where the only rule on their road trip is to break all the rules. At first, this happens in hilariously calculated ways (using lists and reason and logic!), but they soon abandon that, challenging each other to dares in Virginia, getting high and wandering around Philly for food—and battling the subsequent digestive distress—and crashing a party in Cambridge. And, of course, realizing that they’re perfect together.
Where Sleeping Girls Lie by Faridah Àbíké-Íyímídé Feiwel & Friends
Sade Hussein is starting her third year of high school, this time at the prestigious Alfred Nobel Academy boarding school, after being home-schooled all her life. Misfortune has clung to her seemingly since birth, but even she doesn’t expect her new roommate, Elizabeth, to disappear after Sade’s first night. Or for people to think Sade had something to do with it. With rumors swirling around her, Sade catches the attention of the girls collectively known as the ‘Unholy Trinity’ and they bring her into their fold. Between learning more about them—especially Persephone, who Sade is inexplicably drawn to—and playing catchup in class, Sade already has so much on her plate. But when it seems people don't care enough about what happened to Elizabeth, it's up to she and Elizabeth's best friend, Baz, to investigate. And then a student is found dead. The more Sade and Baz dig into Elizabeth's disappearance, the more she realizes there’s more to Alfred Nobel Academy and its students than she thought. Secrets lurk around every corner and beneath every surface…secrets that rival even her own.

what are ur bobs burgers location theories...... i know it takes place in new jesery w/ some architectural inspo from san francisco but I don't know much about nj seeing as im not even american lol
Omg omg! I have so many thoughts about this.
So, for background, I’m from New Jersey. As a result, over the years, I’ve collected some theories as to towns that inspired Seymour’s Bay.
Asbury Park- yeah, like that one Springsteen album. It’s a very touristy area in the summer. There’s a boardwalk and a beach, as well as the famous Wonder Bar. I’m convinced that the Wonder Wharf is named after the Wonder Bar
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Keyport- this is a small town by the bay where you can see Manhattan straight across. I know Sam Francisco architecture was an inspiration for the buildings, but main street here looks too much like Ocean Avenue to be a coincidence, at least, to me.
Tumblr media
Red Bank- I love this town. It’s so funky and artsy. It’s not quite a beach town, but it is by a river! The architecture is also a little funky, which I think matches the vibe of the town. It’s very charming with a Seymour’s Bay type of uniqueness to it. I also think Lily is buried here, because Redburn sounds like Red Bank.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Long Branch- this one is a more affluent area, but it’s one of my favorite beach towns. There’s a boardwalk, some beautiful waterfront restaurants, and funky little shops.
Tumblr media
Atlantic City- do I even need to explain this one? AC is home to not only the longest boardwalk in the state, but in America. It’s probably the most famous spot in all of New Jersey. While I’ve personally never been, the boardwalk is iconic and I wouldn’t be surprised if it served as inspiration for Wonder Wharf.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Keansburg- okay this one is more based off of one single personal experience. Over the summer, I was at the Keansburg boardwalk with my family getting hot dogs. We leave the hot dog place and I see a guy go by in a golf cart. Naturally, I turn to my mom and go “Mr. Fischoeder?” I mean, the guy was in a jersey beach town, at the boardwalk, on a golf cart! I genuinely started to question if I live in the show that day. And then we were walking along the boardwalk and I start to notice that the set up is a little too familiar. It looked like Wonder Wharf, especially in the movie. I can’t really find photos of the amusement park setup, but you have got to trust me.
Tumblr media
Some other thoughts that I have:
I think the location is around the Long Branch area. I remember in Sauce Side Story, when the kids go to Bottom Hook, my mom and I scrambled to find the maps app. There’s this town, Sandy Hook, that we think is supposed to be Bottom Hook, and Louise was saying how far it was from their town. We looked to see what town would be the same distance from Sandy Hook, and it fell on Long Branch.
I think Linda’s hometown of Hunkataway is named in honor of Piscataway or Rahway. We have a lot of Lenape area names around here, and that’s probably in reference to that. I wouldn’t be surprised if her accent was from Jersey City, though.
I believe the Wharf Arts Center is based off of the PNC Arts Center, an amphitheater that’s also the only place big names come to perform in the area in places than aren’t Newark, NYC, or Philly.
I’ve noticed that the Belchers, or at least Bob, fold their pizza, which is such a New Jersey thing. I felt so seen there.
Kings Head Island has got to be Long Island. The spot that’s just a ferry ride away and where all the rich people live?? That’s literally just Long Island, New York.
Remember last year when that one guy dumped literally hundreds of pounds of pasta in the woods and people were saying it was Jimmy Pesto? That happened in my hometown. Granted, it was on the other side of town from me, but yeah. Jimmy Pesto dumped pasta in my hometown ig
When Tina asked Tammy for Becky’s phone number in V for Valentine-detta, she said it started with 201. That’s a New Jersey area code and, according to my mom, used to be more widespread through the state, instead of a small bit in North Jersey like it is now.
I know the name Seymour’s Bay came from a joke with the crew, but omg what if it’s also in reference to Raritan Bay?
Not a theory, but my mom is so Linda coded and I’m very Tina. Like we’re actually them. I think I made a post once about how much my mom is like Linda.
That thing in local she-ro with the local celebrity was so real bc celebrities can be cryptid there sometimes. Bruce Springsteen and Bon Jovi will just show up to the local ice cream shop sometimes
In conclusion, I really love bob’s burgers and how New Jersey it is. And I will talk anyone’s ear off about it, like I just did. Thank you for indulging me 🫶

November 2023 New Works Round Up
Hello everyone, I'm a day late due to the mortifying ordeal, but I'm here with a round up post! We have 3 new works this month in the collection, including a WIP that is currently being updated!
AO3 | All works | Ask box
New works, in no particular order (link in title):
I still need you there beside me, no matter what I do by Anonymous | St. Louis Cardinals | Steve Carlton/Tim McCarver
Left-handed pitchers are their own special breed of crazy. Catchers are their own special breed of crazy. It's a long, long road.
Luck be a Ballplayer by powderblu (bluspirits) | Philadelphia Phillies | Alex Bohm/Brandon Marsh
Alec isn't sure this counts as "just normal roommate things", but he doesn't exactly want Marshy to stop, so he keeps his mouth shut.
Superbloom by heartequals (savvygambols) | San Francisco Giants | Blake Sabol/Casey Schmitt
Casey wraps an arm around Blake’s neck while Blake’s distracted by Yas. Blake flails. Casey pulls him down to his chest. “Me and some of the guys were going out after the game,” he hisses in his ear. “Come out with me.”
The next round-up post will be posted sometime on Sunday, December 10 (unless I get caught up in stupid work bullshit again in which case we may be a day late), so if you need a new deadline, aim for the North American morning of December 10.
Under the cut: November Challenges for readers and creators + 3 questions for creators (for your WIPs or completed works) and a hot sidequest for everyone!
November Challenge for Readers: Before the December post, leave comments on FOUR works from the past two months, if you haven't left comments yet!
November Challenge for Creators: Before the December post do the following:
Writers, add THREE sentences on your work every day.
Artists, spend FIVE MINUTES on your work every day
Podfic? Five minutes of editing or ten minutes of recording every other day. Something else I’m not thinking of? Adjust accordingly to your medium.
3 Creator Questions: Answer in the notes, on your blog, or in the ask box!
Who was/is your favorite character to work on in (one of) your works you posted so far?
What's a line that didn't make it into the final cut that you really really wanted to include?
Would you trust the players in your work with the aux cord?
November Sidequest for Everybody: Make a rec post on tumblr of at least two works you particularly enjoyed from the challenge so far and include at least one line on why you liked them.
That's it for this month, folks! I'll be back on December 10. Remember that to create art is to push back the forces of darkness that threaten to destroy us (Manfred's nonsense), drink water, and leave comments!
As always, ask box is open and anon is on. I can also be reached at rpfisfine@/gmail.com 🌞

"The American Negro must remake his past in order to make his future."
This summer, let us browse the stacks of the remarkable life and career of archivist, collector, and curator Arturo Alfonso Schomburg (the "Father Of Black History"), without whom there almost certainly would not have been a Harlem Renaissance. Born in 1874 Puerto Rico to a black mother (from the Virgin Islands) and a Puerto Rican father of German ancestry (hence his distinctive surname), Schomburg recounted a childhood tale of a bigoted grade school teacher in San Juan, who asserted that black people had "no history, art or culture." He moved to New York City in his teens but he never forgot this racist sentiment, and he remained fiercely connected to his Puerto Rican heritage. Activism called to Arturo early; in 1892 he was deeply involved with Las Dos Antillas, an advocacy group that pushed for Puerto Rican independence from Spain --a mission which of course sputtered to a disillusioning end after Spain ceded Puerto Rico to the United States.
Schomburg pivoted to academic life and embarked on a study of the African Dispora. In 1911 he co-founded the Negro Society for Historical Research, a long-term reclamation project in which materials on Africa and its Diaspora were collected. Schomburg would devote the next 20 years of his life to this project --travelling throughout the United States, Europe, and Latin America to rare book stores, antique dealers, and even used furniture stores (one from which he apocryphally claimed to have recovered a handwritten essay by Frederick Douglass). Over time he and his team of African, Caribbean, and African American scholars would amass a collection of over 10,000 books, manuscripts, artwork, photographs, newspapers, periodicals, pamphlets, and even sheet music. One of his proudest finds was a long-forgotten series of poems by Phillis Wheatley.
Of course as any curator will tell you, acquiring unique pieces is nothing without a means to share the knowledge and the history that comes with them --by 1930 (the year of his eventual retirement), Schomberg would have lent numerous items to schools, libraries, and conferences and organized exhibitions. In the midst of all this he wrote articles for a wide range of publications, to include Marcus Garvey's Negro World; the NAACP's The Crisis (edited by W. E. B. Du Bois), and A. Philip Randolph and Chandler Owen's The Messenger; as well as essays for the National Urban League and The Amsterdam News (Harlem's newspaper).
Significantly in 1926 the Carnegie Corporation bought Schomburg's collection for $10,000 (about $125,000 in today's currency), on behalf of The New York Public Library. The collection was added to the Division of Negro Literature, History and Prints of the Harlem Branch on 135th Street, of which Schomburg would later be appointed curator (following a stint as curator of the Negro Collection at Fisk University). The Division became the "go-to" centerpiece of many a Black artist, writer, and scholar; to include Arna Wendell Bontemps and Zora Neale Huston. After his death in 1938, the Division was renamed the Schomburg Collection of Negro Literature, History and Prints. Schomberg's protégé, an up-and-coming author and poet named Langston Hughes, assumed responsibility for the collection.
Today the collection is known as the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture (still under the auspices of The New York Public Library) --now topping out at more than 11 million indexed items, and considered to be one of the world's foremost research centers on Africa and the African Diaspora.

Philly Fan Expo highlights:
MEET @pastafossa !!
We had our photo before anything else and sadly I guess i forgot to order a digital copy so I have to scan mine later and post it.
And then the autograph line: seeing Charlie again from the line:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then it was my turn! For someone reason I decided to tell Charlie that I just quit a horrible job and coming here to meet him was a highlight at the end of that job. And he basically said he was glad I left a job like that AND THEN wished me good luck in my next endeavors! 😭 so, since Charlie has blessed my next adventure, I will be walking in the place of my dream job to hand them my resume and hope for the best!
The panel was really good! Fans asked some good questions and questions they also couldn’t answer. Also, a popular “fact” was debunked by Charlie. He did not actually live with Eddie, Andrew and Rob. (Also got a video of Charlie fondling that flipping microphone, like sir please. What were you doing!?😂)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I was so glad to walk the show floor this time around as I wasn’t able to do so at MegaCon. Me and Pasta were on the hunt for Daredevil stuff which was majorly lacking! But I was able to find a cool silhouette print (that I low key “stole” from someone. Okay, that’s a lie: I saw the print on the wall and then saw this guy pick it up from the bin and I asked if he saw many more in there and sudd he’s handing it to me, basically shoving it in my hand for me to take. I was like “oh no! I can’t take it I just asking if there was more!” And he insisted that I take it and his friend was like “trust me. Take it.” So, I did. And now it’s mine)
Art:
Tumblr media
Our hunt continued and I spotted a beautiful Daredevil art print and pointed it out to Pasta and she bought it! The artist signed it for her and he’s also on Etsy, which we have seen that print before! So we both were successful in our DD art hunt!
At that point we were so done, sore and tired and later went to eat where we were low key “kicked out” of the Panera bread cuz we sat there talking most of the time 😂
But I gotta say. Hanging out with @pastafossa all day was amazing! It didn’t feel like it was the first time meeting in person, it felt like I’ve already known her for years so that was awesome. And I got to witness her ask Charlie to hold the glowing red thread to his chest!
Besides Charlie, one of the best parts this weekend was when fans of Pasta and TRT came up to her. Seeing and hearing the impact TRT has on people is incredible and you guys sang praises to someone immensely talented in writing in every way. I loved hearing the passion in your voices and the things you spoke about because I FEEL THE SAME WAY! I love that this Daredevil fic has brought people together and made friends out of each other and we all collectively, deeply love what Pasta has created.
I was happy to meet you guys along with her!
(Ps. I gave Pasta the TRT themed gift I made and she loved it!)

I once did an embroidery that involved the basic outline of my feet. I put it in an art show in LA and it was sold to someone in i think Philly before the show even opened.
I’m guessing it’s on a bedroom wall somewhere amongst a collection of other foot-themed art.

1831 fashion plate in La Mode, art by Paul Gavarni. (Rijksmuseum)
The three gentlemen are in evening costume (still brightly coloured at this time), wearing dress shoes with some nice hairstyles on display. Their pantaloons/trousers are tight-fitting, ankle-length, and don't appear to have falls. According to Handbook of English Costume in the 19th Century by Phillis and C. Willett Cunnington, men's pantaloons could have a fly opening after 1825.
Here's a similar pair of American men's trousers in the Met Collection, dated 1830-1839:
Tumblr media
Pantaloons with a foot strap are more characteristic of the 1830s; this 1826 fashion plate detail shows them buttoned at the ankle, with pumps and embroidered stockings.
