ok thoughts on the future of Namor in the MCU.

For the most part comic Namor and movie Namor couldn’t be more different. Yes they both run underwater cities and are strong in an almost godlike way but really? Their similarity ends there. Comic!Namor is literally one of the biggest dickheads in Marvel canon and quite literally harasses a married woman with his affection for years. If Ryan has control and input over his character (which i’m really hopeful for since james gunn had input for guardians in infinity war) I know they won’t go down this route with Sue.

There’s no shot. Namor is a proud indigenous man who wants to preserve his culture. There is no universe where he marries a white Sue Storm, or throws himself at the feet of a married woman who rejects him. There is a chance they make Sue nonwhite in the MCU and if they do I still hope they don’t have him chasing after her. The dynamic with Shuri has already been set up and is a more elevated version of Namor and Sue’s story in the comics. We might never see them canonically “be together”(even tho I think they could become big bads together) but it makes infinitely more sense for MCU!Namor to become infatuated with Shuri. Their stories parallel one another almost perfectly and in his mind they’re equals.

I see Namor maybe pursuing Shuri but her rejecting him(for obvious reasons!). He will stay out of most conflicts but perhaps join Kang in exchange for his help attacking the surface world—something he still clearly wants—but eventually realizing what Kang is ACTUALLY trying to do so he’ll have to go crawling back to Shuri and be like “so, I fucked up but how bout that alliance friend!” They’ll fight together but while it’s happening Talokan is attacked or Wakanda is attacked and Namor is like “see what did i tell you about the surface dwellers?” because make no mistake Wakanda is going to have to fight off an invasion. Namor knows that.

Then Shuri is like “well shit he was right” and they fight together protecting their land. It’s still the MCU so they’ll probably have Namor do something irredeemable because they have this need to always have their villains do something unforgivable so we remember they’re villains. I don’t know where they go from there tho, Namor either has to become a hero or die. This happens to all the villains, (see Thanos vs Loki)

Bio: Despite how feathery this ghostly Buddy is, it's actually flightless and can only stay on the ground to get around! Its powerful legs can help it run at great speeds and while it does so, it cries out with a spooky-sounding song that can be heard for miles. Rumor has it that it sings in order to find others just like it, but it otherwise travels alone.

How have you felt about the MCU in general since Endgame?

I think it's important to avoid the catastrophizing of "Phase 4 has gone off the rails" because a couple movies came out that you didn't like or the sudden 180 to "is the MCU Saved?" just because one movie came out that people liked.

I think there have been ups and downs, both creatively and commercially. I liked No Way Home, I liked Wakanda Forever, I liked Guardians Vol. 3, there was stuff I enjoyed in Shang-Chi and Thor: Love and Thunder and Black Widow, and even the stuff I thought didn't hit the mark like Eternals or Multiverse of Madness were at least trying do something. Most of the Disney+ stuff has been good or at least fun.

To be honest, I think the MCU's problems are more about labor issues, but that's a problem across all of Hollywood.

So…I actually haven’t got around to seeing Wakanda Forever yet (bit busy) but I enjoyed Nakia’s role in the first. I know that answer probably sucks but hopefully the art can make up for it for now, lol.

Strange watched his sister drown right? And he has photographic memory, yes??

He remembers every single, tiny little detail of his sister’s death.

Every second is etched into his memory and the only way he could get rid of it was to detach himself. To work himself to save as many people as possible. He was so insistent on being able to use his hands, went through all those surgeries and rehabilitation experiments, and ended up becoming the sorcerer supreme, because it was his only way of not having to remember.

You want more? Sure.

Doctor Strange saw millions upon millions of timelines at once in Infinity War, trying to find a way to stop Thanos and only being left with one option. A few months later, and he was sent spiraling through the multiverse, trying to save a kid’s life.

What if he knew there was a variant out there that still had Donna?

A variant where he didn’t fail to save his little sister’s life. A variant that just wasn’t a failure.

I still have more.

Strange doesn’t talk about his parents, not in the MCU or in the comics. Most of the avengers have had mentions of their family circumstances, from Steve’s mom working her ass off to get him his meds and Bucky having to make money for whatever reason his father couldn’t, to the assassination of Natasha’s mother and the accident that killed Peter’s parents.

But Strange doesn’t talk about his. Why?

What if they blamed him??

Obviously not to the extent that Wendy blamed Marc, but Strange was always smart. What if he could see it? Like… he just knew???

No matter what his parents told him, he left and never reconciled with the guilt.

I’d kill for some information about his parents tbh.

TDLR; positive MCU ramble, idk I think there needs to be more positive commentary in this fandom.

More than ever before I’m gaining major respect for MCU. It might just be some huge highly-marketable franchise, but that’s exactly why it’s so neat to me. Not just cause it’s popular, but for how well they’ve handled keeping it popular for this long. I can understand why people are getting fatigue and where a lot of the criticisms come and thats fine. That said, phase 4 has done leaps and bounds in keeping the MCU fresh post-infinity saga. A lot of praise went to Guardians back in 2014 for expanding the possibilities of what an MCU product can look like in terms of scope. Phase 4 to me feels like they’re trying to expand again, but this time through genres. Marvel movies/shows aren’t just restricted to the superhero genre anymore, we’ve got a sitcom, we’ve got a horror movie, we’ve got a character study. And with this a whole influx of new directors and crew members. No wonder phase 4 feels all over the place, it’s TRYING to be. The multiverse may be expanding what is possible in the MCU’s lore, but we’ve gotten just as much expansion on the scope of genre and tone in each individual project. I’m so excited with stuff like Ms. Marvel and Moon Knight because we HAVEN’T seen these stories and perspectives in the MCU before. Both have unique tones that immediately stand out from other marvel projects. Opinions each to their own, but I’d much rather the MCU keep experimenting like this than falling back to the old formula just cause people like it. I’ve seen all too well franchises (Pokémon) who phone it in and get away with delivering the bare minimum over and over and over again. MCU can be hit or miss and there’s definitely a lot of missteps in phase 4. But good or bad, at least they’re continuing to experiment.

If future MCU projects are assumed to be set after the Guardians holiday special, they’re set in 2026.

Reverse snap is in 2023 - Peter goes back to school presumably for Fall semester

Far from Home takes place summer 2024 and No Way Home takes place throughout the Fall 2024 semester

No Way Home and Hawkeye both end in Christmas 2024.

Meaning the Holiday Special takes place a year later, in December 2025.
