It's season 5 of the Percy Jackson TV show and we see Nico di Angelo has just arrived to save the Battle of Manhattan. Nico is standing there holding his sword and taunting Kronos. The camera cuts to a blond boy, about a year older than Nico, who stands in the background, helping a wounded demigod stand. We've seen this character around before, in the background, following his older brothers. We saw the boy just a little while ago. He helped Annabeth with a bad wound. The boy is Will Solace. Will looks at the scene in front of him in wonder. He's starstruck.

Nah cuz y’all don’t understand

Luke has been one of my favorite characters FOR YEARS!!!

And it’s not because “he’s hot” or whatever (he’s literally words on a page, I refused to watch the movie for so long so the book description was all I had) but because he’s just so complex and makes a lot of valid points.

I’m an English major so the bulk of what I do is literally analyze literature and characters and all that jazz and Luke is just one of those characters you can’t help but study. Like his backstory and personality and present actions are just so fascinating to me.

Especially as I get older and closer to the age he is in the books, I start to understand more of who he is and why he does the things he does and it’s just so addicting to gobble up any new information I learn or notice about him.

And listen, every single one of his scenes in the final episode, I’m obsessed with. Was it exactly like the books? No, of course not, I was expecting that. But his mannerisms, his tone, his expressions… I could cry because it’s everything I wanted and more. Every change that was made with Luke’s character in the show, I applaud, and Charlie Bushnell’s performance as Luke Castellan blew me away.

I sincerely hope with every ounce of my being that this show makes it to The Last Olympian for a multitude of reasons, but especially to see how Luke’s character progresses.

OK so I’ve been holding this in for a while because honestly, I thought my opinion on it didn’t matter but I have too intense of an opinion on it to not share-

If Harry Potter and Draco Malfoy are two sides of the same coin, then Percy Jackson and Luke Castellan are a heartbreaking mirror image!

I saw a post that said “The reason Luke is going to hate (jealousy) Percy is because of the unconditional love that Poseidon has for Percy and the relationship that Percy will have with the gods” but it’s honestly not just the unconditional love that Poseidon has for Percy, which Hermes’ love is definitely conditional and that’s fucked up, but it’s more than that! It’s Percy’s relationship with both of his parents as a whole!

“i hate to say it but poseidon's parenting advice to hermes was spot on.” I know people give Poseidon a lot of shit for not showing up until he did or even more often than he did, but Poseidon legitimately stayed away because it was bringing danger to Percy and he specifically stayed away because Sally asked him to and both of them made the best decision possible for Percy not themselves but their son and that is selfless love that’s unconditional love that’s saying I’m going to do what is best for you not what is best for me and gods don’t do that! Hermes sure as hell didn’t do that! He was selfish and kept going back because it made him feel good, no matter what it was doing to them as a family and especially to Luke! But what’s worse is that mom’s should be the most selfless person in your life, and Luke’s mom wasn’t!!!

I saw another post that said that Luke is a mama’s boy and that’s why he’s mad at Hermes, but honestly, Luke’s mom fucked up even worse than Hermes did because Luke’s mom chose the gods over her son!!! And this to me is where everything really really matters- Sally chose Percy over everything!!!!! She made every single decision in her life based off of Percy and him becoming the best possible person he could be in the safest possible way he could while keeping him as close to her as possible! And Luke’s mom did the exact opposite!! Luke’s mom chose to attempt to become the Oracle, because it made her important and gave her a role within the gods not because it was what was best for her son! She risked her son, knowing how dangerous it was, because she was selfish!

So basically, it becomes this⬇️

Vs.

Percy‘s parents love him unconditionally and selflessly! Luke’s parents were the opposite!

Lin-Manuel Miramds as Heremes!!!

Also confirmed sightings of Hermes in season 1? More backstory on Luke!!!

And it seems like Annabath, Percy, and Grover (or at least Percy and Annabeth) will interact with Luke in season 1.

At first, I was thinking he'd just appear in Luke's flashbacks or dreams or something, or maybe Percy has a dream of something from Luke's past, like his quest that got him his scar, but it seems like Hermes will actually meet and interact with them, too.

Very excited to get to know these characters better and for future casting news!

(the first being di angelo’s pizza if that counts. plus, the di angelo’s are italian…)
