This is a big deal. Elon Musk just fired everyone who can make life easier for people with disabilities, everyone who represents people with disabilities. The people who could save a someone's life.

PSA for Across the Spiderverse:
Do NOT see the new Spiderverse movie if you have any form of epileptic condition or conditions affected by bright lights and rapidly changing colors.
I will not be spoiling the plot or anything happening in it, but it is important that people know, because ohhh my god the AMOUNT of flashing lights and rapidly changing colors from beginning to end was so rampant that even I, a non-epileptic autistic person, got a severe headache and wild overstimulation. They do not give a warning in theaters at all that this movie is NOT epileptic friendly from the literal beginning with the beginning credits - which is so, so sad!
This is a beautifully made film, it's wonderful, it's amazing, but unfortunately, it's not a good time for anyone super affected by bright flashing lights in rapid succession, especially those seizure prone.
I wanted to put this out there BECAUSE there are no theater warnings. Idk if anyone else has put it out there, but it is SUPER IMPORTANT!!!
I wish you all a lovely day and hope they eventually have a remaster that will be much more friendly to epileptic and other people affected by bright, flashing lights.
(EDIT: Changed all text to plain text for screen readers! Sorry about that, my bad!)
SECOND EDIT: please do not fight in the comments of my post please... if you guys wanna talk stuff out in DMs, that is a-okay and not my business but I directly get notifications for everyone's comments and replies- including people fighting in the comments.
I understand that some theaters have warnings in them. Mine did not, and many other peoples' did not. It seems to be a theater by theater basis, so please understand that is where I'm coming from. If you had a warning in your theater, that is wonderful! And I'm very grateful that ya'lls theaters had warnings! That is a great sign. But please under stand that mine and many others' theaters don't have warnings.
Please take any arguments off my post, it is not meant to be grounds for heated discussion, just a warning for people who are photosensitive or epileptic. Thank you.

Okay uhm - I need to say this because I am noticing this a bit in the responses to Somerton's "Apology" video.
Do people really think, just because ableism in the workplace is forbidden, that workplaces don't discriminate?
Even if insurance stuff covers your health issues, I won't put it past an employer to let you go with the made up argument it doesn't. Because non-epileptic people are generally very uncomfortable with seeing seizure activity and some of them will prioritize their comfort over sticking to anti-discrimination laws.
I think Somerton's video is full of BS, but I am even more uncomfortable with how happy people are to dismiss Somerton's medical history/symptoms, just so they can argue against him. As if people with disabilities can be absolved for being dicks by accepting their stated medical and discrimination history.
When you don't even have to do so to point out the harm Somerton's logic does?
I mean - I think it's warranted to question James' statements because of his complicated relationship with telling the truth, but I am just kind of bothered by how people argue "this could not have happened because laws/policies"
No. Let it have happened. It makes his apology worse if you choose to believe him on this, trust me.
If our response to disabled people acting terrible (stealing other people's material and presenting it as your own), is to accuse said disabled people of lying about their symptoms and diagnosis, I think we are missing the point and problem.

LISTEN UP, this is important
on behalf of my epileptic friends and family, even my epileptic enemies, I would like to formally request that you DO NOT put up flashing decorations for Halloween (if that’s something celebrated where you live) or other holidays that you might decorate for
I know I’m being a “killjoy”, and it probably feels very bossy, but I care deeply about these people and I don’t want anyone getting hurt, and by something completely avoidable no less
you can have lights like that inside the comfort of your own home as long as you know that no one who could be hurt by then will be around them or be able to see them from outside
do a little research if you can to find stuff out and spread the word if you can
have a lovely Halloween
tl;dr? flashing lights have the potential to seriously hurt photosensitive people, don’t put them up

yeah we’re basically done with november but november is in fact national epilepsy awareness month and i do encourage u guys to at least be superficially aware of basic seizure first-aid and understand that epilepsy is a) a surprisingly common condition and disability and b) comes with a lot of physical and social baggage that is overlooked because most people’s knowledge of epilepsy begins and ends with Seizures. anyway: if u see someone having a seizure, turn them on their side, DO NOT put anything in their mouth, don’t hold them down, cushion their head, loosen tight clothing/jewelry, check for medical ID, and push away anything nearby that could be dangerous. also for ur social media activities: tag posts with flashing lights as “flashing” not “epilepsy”, report ads that have flashing lights, don’t make posts disparaging people who cant drive

Only 19 states have the Seizure Safe School Act. Out of 50 states only 19 have mandated seizure first aid requirements.
Epilepsy is the 4th most common neurological disorder. It is treated as if it is rare causing the feeling of loneliness, and being misunderstood. Students and faculty alike cause some of this by not taking the disability seriously. We need to bring this to an end. All 50 states should be on board.
Anyone with a brain can have a seizure 💜
