Hey why are you retiring the Paypal payment options? Every week I hear how Tumblr must raise more income sources, why are you taking the means to support Tumblr away?
Answer: Hello, @tatostew!
Firstly, let us say that we hoped to offer PayPal as a payment method for Ad-Free, but ran into some technical issues with the implementation. To keep our billing processes running smoothly, we’ve had to remove it as an option.
For the subscriptions that are still active, we have put them into “pending cancellation” status. This means they will run their course and then expire. If you want to renew your subscription, you will need to re-subscribe after your subscription expires. There were also subscriptions that should have been renewed but weren’t able to, so these have expired, too. Anyone affected by either of these scenarios will have received an email explaining what has happened and what, if anything, to do next. And in no situation will any subscription auto-renew.
Secondly, for those folk who do not have a credit card and are not sure how to renew: when you purchase Ad-Free through the Tumblr site, the only option is to pay with a credit card. However, if you purchase Ad-Free in the Tumblr app instead, it’s processed as an in-app purchase—so if you use the Android app, the purchase will be billed through the Google Play store, and if you use the iOS app, the purchase will be billed through Apple.
We believe Apple and Google Play both support PayPal as a payment method, as well as several other different payment options, so that might be an alternative option for you when the time comes to resubscribe!

Every time we see someone pay, it's just before disaster happens, and the payment is insurance that things will be restored.
If there is payment required and it's not given, disaster happens and those unpaid are destroyed.
s1, Crowley and Aziraphale pay for their ice cream just before they're snatched; this means their lives are saved and they'll be fine. Crowley paid for the Bentley's gas once, and Aziraphale paid for the bookshop's land, so both are also saved.
s2, Elspeth steals the laudenum, she steals a suicide pill intending to pay with her life but didn't pay in any manner, so a balance is due for the pain/death owed: Crowley. Aziraphale took a body without paying, so someone has to repay the body owed: Morag. Dalrymple only partially paid for a body, so payment was still owed: he repaid with his own. Is it that your own life is less than stealing someone else's, or was it interest on delayed payment, or was he paying more than was owed? I think stealing someone else's increases the balance.
Mrs H is owed 40 bottles of whiskey, and Aziraphale pays her back with one big trick, no miracles: no fake payment, but real earthly means. Heaven/hell can't be involved in earthly payment.
The zombies believe they are owed their lives, does this count? We see them take two, are they owed yet another? I think so. Lying to trick people out of payment doesn't count.
Heaven loses an angel, so they take one back. Hell also loses a demon; when do they come calling? Crowley Grand Duke. Crowley is also owed a favor by hell.
Payment on earth only seems to be in force in the past, for s2. Death being on holiday seems to be true. Perhaps that's why there's so many anachronisms in the present, as there's no temporal payment.
s1, babies are given and taken in equal measure, but there is one extra life; I think all the food we see eaten is "paid for" by the free-for-all food fight in e1. Adam takes lives, so at the end he must give them back. Adam's own extra life is repaid by changing the world such that he's no longer "extra": he's now a set of twins, just as he was in the beginning. Crowley offers the nazis their lives, they don't take it, so he's not taking anything without payment.
