Vientiane, Loas — February 2024. The temperature has started to soar into the high 90s now so we were smoking hot by the time we reached our second destination after the trek out to Budda Park. Known as the “Arc de Triomphe of Vientiane”, the Patuxai Monument is a striking landmark that dominates the city skyline. We climbed to the top of the monument for a panoramic view of the city. Compared to 30 years ago, the dirt road is gone but the traffic is still minimal for a capital city. It’s funny that they built this “victory tower” with the money the US provided for an airport runway. The last stop was That Luang — one of the most important monuments in Laos and a symbol of the country’s national identity. The stupa, which is covered in gold leaf, is said to contain a relic of the Buddha’s breastbone.

พระธาตุหลวง หรือพระเจดีย์โลกะจุฬามณี พระธาตุมีความสูง 45 เมตร มีลักษณะคล้ายดอกบัวตูม มีพระธาตุเล็กอยู่บนพระธาตุใหญ่ชั้นที่สอง 30 องค์ มีความสวยงามอลังการ ในทุกๆปีจะมีการจัดงานประจำปี ประเพณีบุญนมัสการพระธาตุหลวง ในวัน ขึ้น 13 ค่ำเดือน 12 ซึ่งเป็นประเพณีที่สืบทอดกันมาแต่โบราณ หากไปเที่ยวเวียงจันทร์ในช่วงเดือนนั้นก็อย่าลืมแวะไปชมประเพณีนี้ได้
พระธาตุพูสี (Phousi Hill)
พระธาตุพูสี ตั้งอยู่ใจกลางหลวงพระบาง อยู่บนยอดเขาที่มีความสูงราว 150 เมตร มีบันไดขึ้นยอดพูสี 328 ขั้นสองข้างทางระหว่างขึ้นยอดพูสีมีต้นจำปาเรียงราย และจุดเด่นของพระธาตุพูสี คือองค์พระธาตุที่มีรูปทรงเป็นดอกบัวสี่เหลี่ยมสีทองอร่าม สูง 21 เมตร นอกจากไปกราบไหว้พระธาตุพูสีแล้วที่นี่ยังเป็นจุดชมวิวที่สวยงามจุดหนึ่งของหลวงพระบางเลยก็ว่าได้
ประตูชัย หรือ ปะตูไซ ( Patuxay Monument )
ปะตูไซ อยู่ใจกลางเมืองเวียงจันทร์สร้างเพื่อเป็นการสดุดีวีรชนผู้ร่วมรบเพื่อประกาศเอกราชจากประเทศฝรั่งเศส ตกแต่งด้วยศิลปะแบบล้านช้าง มีสัตว์ตามความเชื่อทางพระพุทธศาสนาอย่างกินรีและพญานาคตกแต่งอยู่ด้วย นักท่องเที่ยวสามารถขึ้นไปชมวิวเวียงจันทร์แบบ 360 องศาบนปะตูไซได้ นักท่องเที่ยวที่มาที่ปะตูไซนิยมมาถ่ายรูปเป็นที่ระลึก นอกจากนี้บริเวณปะตูไซยังมีลานจัดแสดงน้ำพุประกอบดนตรีและมีสวนปะตูไซ

ถ้ำจัง เป็นที่เที่ยวอีกแห่งหนึ่งที่น่าสนใจของวังเวียง ด้านในเป็นถ้ำหินปูนขนาดใหญ่ ซึ่งในอดีตเคยเป็นที่หลบภัยสงครามของชาวบ้าน และเมื่อสงครามสงบลงชาวบ้านจึงได้กลับออกมาตั้งรกรากถิ่นฐานอยู่ในเมืองวังเวียง ภายในถ้ำแบ่งออกเป็นหลายส่วนด้วยกัน มีทั้งห้องโถงใหญ่ และทางเดินแคบๆ เต็มไปด้วยหินงอกหินย้อย ให้เราเดินเที่ยวชมได้รอบถ้ำ อากาศภายในถ้ำเย็นสบาย พร้อมทั้งยังมีการติดไฟหลากสีไว้ เพื่อความสว่างสวยงามของถ้ำอีกด้วย
บลู ลากูน (Blue Lagoon)
บลู ลากูน สระน้ำสีฟ้าใสที่เกิดขึ้นตามธรรมชาติ ตั้งอยู่บริเวณด้านหน้าของ ถ้ำภูคำ (Tham Phu Kham Cave) ที่เที่ยวยอดนิยมสุดๆ สำหรับนักท่องเที่ยวที่ไปเที่ยววังเวียงค่ะ ที่นี่มีน้ำในสระใสราวกับคริสตัลและเป็นสีฟ้า มองเห็นพื้นดินด้านล่างได้อย่างชัดเจน ที่ด้านข้างสระมีต้นไม้ใหญ่ สามารถไต่เชือกกระโดดน้ำได้อย่างสนุกสนานอีกด้วย
น้ำตกตาดกวางสี (Kuang Si Waterfal)
น้ำตกตาดกวางสี หรือ น้ำตกตาดกวางซี สีถือเป็นน้ำตกที่สวยที่สุดในหลวงพระบางเลยก็ว่าได้ เป็นอีกหนึ่งที่เที่ยวลาวที่ไม่ควรพลาดมาชมความสวยงาม น้ำตกมีความสูง 4 ชั้น มีความสูง 75 เมตร เนื่องจากเป็นน้ำตกหินปูนจึงทำให้น้ำในน้ำตกเป็นสีเขียวมรกตอยู่ท่ามกลางธรรมชาติ ไฮไลท์ของที่นี่คือสะพานไม้ที่ทอดข้ามผ่านแอ่งน้ำให้ได้ยืนถ่ายรูปกับน้ำตก ที่น้ำตกแห่งนี้ไม่ได้เป็นสถานที่ท่องเที่ยวยอดฮิตของชาวเอเชียเท่านั้น แต่ยังดึงดูดนักท่องเที่ยวชาวยุโรปมาเที่ยวไม่ขาดสาย
ปราสาทหิน��ัดพู (Vat Phou)
โบราณสถานที่เป็นที่เที่ยวลาวที่ไม่ควรพลาดไปชมคือ ปราสาทหินวัดพู เป็นโบสถ์พราหมณ์ที่สร้างถวายพระศิวะ สร้างขึ้นในช่วงสมัยของขอมเรืองอำนาจ ลักษณะของปราสาทเป็นเทวสถานขอม คล้ายกับเขาพระวิหาร โดยที่นี่อยู่ห่างจากตัวเมืองเก่าจำปาสักประมาณ 6 กิโลเมตร การเดินทางไปเที่ยวชมปราสาทหินวัดพูรถใหญ่ไม่สามารถเดินทางเข้าไปได้ จึงมีบริการรถท้องถิ่นพาเข้าไป
ทุ่งไหหิน (Plain of Jars)
ทุ่งไหหินเป็นที่ตั้งของหินใหญ่ ที่กระจัดกระจายไปทั่วที่ราบสูงเชียงขวาง โดยหินมีขนาดตั้งแต่กลางไปจนถึงใหญ่ มีลักษณะเป็นหินรูปไห น้ำหนักตั้งแต่ 40-50 กิโลกรัม ไปจนถึง 15 ตัน ได้มีการขุดค้นโดยนักโบราณคดีชาวลาวและชาวญี่ปุ่น มีกว่า 2,500-3,000 ปี ที่นี่ยังได้รับการขึ้นทะเบียนเป็นมรดกโลกโดย UNESCO อีกด้วย เป็นอีกหนึ่งที่เที่ยวลาวที่ไม่ควรพลาดชมความมหัศจรรย์ของอารยธรรมมนุษย์ในยุคโบราณ

Bis zur Dämmerung sind wir heute in der Innenstadt zu Fuss unterwegs. Wir laufen täglich so an die 12.000 bis 14.000 Schritte, wie heute 👌 Nach der goldenen Stupa sind wir am Weg zurück beim - Patuxai - dem Triumphbogen noch vorbei gekommen. 49 Meter ragt der hohe Monumentalbau am Ende der Xang-Prachtstraße empor. Er wurde in den 1960er Jahren als „Denkmal für die Helden der königlichen Armee“, d. h. für Laos’ Unabhängigkeit von Frankreich errichtet und ist inklusiver der Parkanlage wirklich sehenswert ❤️ Damit geht nun unser 31.12. kulturell zu Ende 😉 Wir legen nun eine kurze Pause im Hotel ein und streunen dann in der Silvesternacht noch etwas durch die Gassen in Vientiane 🇱🇦 Silvester - bzw. der Jahreswechsel findet hier nur sehr eingeschränkt für Touristen (die ja kaum da sind) statt - die Laoten feiern dafür am 1.1. den internationalen Neujahrstag, indem sie zuhause mit ihren Familien essen, trinken und fröhlich sind. #privatetasteontour #laos #vientiane #laostravel (hier: Vientiane, Laos) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cm1i1AhNw9g/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

How cool is it to just take a leap and, boom, you’re in a new country?
Taking a train and a tuktuk to Laos ticked that off my bucketlist. It was an uncomfortable 14-hr trip (Remind me to never do this again. Thailand trains are not the best.) I honestly wished to just went to Siam Reap instead but it is what it is.
Vientiane, capital of Laos, was 20 minutes from the border. It’s a very laid back city and not as busy and progressive as Bangkok.
From the Patuxai Monument, a lot of government buildings are around and a few temples such as Wat That Phoun.
After a 5 minute ride, you can visit Wat Si Saket which also houses a museum. The Presidential Palace is just beside it as well.
These temples were literally golden glowing as the sun set. It was pretty magical.
My favorite moment would probably be catching the sunset at the Chao Anouvang Park and watching Thailand across the Mekong River. It was so serene and perfect.
In the evening, we had dinner at a hotpot place at Vientiane New World which is conveniently just a few steps away from the park.
One of the few modern places around the city. Pleasantly enjoyed walking around here at night.
Vientiane isn't the best place I've been to. But at least I got to cross the border. Anyway, time to catch the train back to Thailand.

Luang Prabang: In the Stillness of Sounds
What comes to mind when you hear the word "Laos"? Is it Patuxay, a monument similar to the Arc de Triomphe in Paris? Or the beauty of the Mekong River that flows throughout Laos? Perhaps not even both? We may rarely hear about this country but who would have thought that Laos has what other countries do not have! For me, Laos is the best for a mindfulness journey as it’s the result from the sphere of silence .
I remembered Luang Prabang as a very memorable place. It’s a very old small town, not many people, the atmosphere is very calm, slow paced city, no uproarious loud voices. Located in Northern Laos, Luang Prabang represents spiritual experiences and exotic views. A journey on Luang Prabang soothes the soul and awakes the senses to appreciate the silence. People talking without speaking, hearing without listening. No one dared to interrupt the sound of silence.
Enjoy the peace and quiet away from the constant horn honking but relax with a sunset over the Mekong River. I remember when we climbed Mount Phousi to catch the sunset from the top. The red tinge of the sky and its reflection on the Mekong River is truly soothing to the heart. The girl next to me was smiling watching the sun goes down while listening to the music through her earphone. Other tourists seemed to be hypnotized with the beauty of the sun drowning into the Mekong River. Such a perfect way to feel grateful for this life.
The next day we woke up before sunrise to see the morning alms ritual. Tak Bat (Morning Alms) is a longstanding tradition in Laos Buddhist culture. It is an act of giving food from the villagers to the monks throughout the street of Luang Prabang. As lines of silent monks glide by to collect offerings, their orange robes in stark contrast to the hazy morning light. This ceremony is undertaken in complete silence. You can’t make loud voice nor talk to the monks. The ritual in silence, It feels like you can communicate without words. You can only speak through the heart.
There is no denying that we live in a noisy world that is only getting louder. Luang Prabang is the perfect place for people who are looking for peace, calmness, and the meaning of life. You won’t find any fancy restaurants but small stalls that provide you the authentic Laotian foods. The genuine local people who offered you the best hospitality.
