one time like 2 years ago i played what would i do and falsettoland reprise and then put the ios rain background sounds on and i haven’t been the same since
I know it has probably been said a thousand times before, but those dramatic scenes between the main character and the love interest in the pouring rain are the best.
Not simply because of the drama, because of the pathetic fallacy, but because of the motives behind the drama. One character feels strongly enough about something to brave the pouring rain - which people famously try to avoid - because they would rather face that than the other character.
And the other character! They feel strongly enough about the first character to follow them into the rain.
It's just perfection. Pure perfection. The strength of emotions which leads up to that dramatic scene are what make it so amazing every single time. I just can't get enough of it.
Man, I love pathetic fallacy but boy is it underutilised. And I don't mean that more creative works should use it, but that creative works should use it more interestingly
Like, pathetic fallacy is “using weather to reflect mood” – not “sunny = happy, rain = sad.” Sure, it can be trickier to use rain to express relief, or sun to convey tension, but there are so many more ways to use weather than “light good dark bad.” idk maybe it's just me tho
Lichen grew against the headstone like ice freezing in spirals against a glass window. A chill blew graveyard, dragged through by swirling snowflakes dancing between the stones. He couldn’t help but smile as he stared around, this was exactly the sort of night she’d appreciate, had she been six feet below him.
People usually dismiss the weather as a topic of conversation but I could never say in enough words how much I adore it.
My mother loves the rain. t waters her plants, fills her tank and looks pretty when dripping down the windows.
My nephew likes the fog. Likes to run in it and disappear and giggle yelling to me to try and find him. I follow with a laugh of my own taking a while longer than needed.
My father likes the sun. Likes the flame of his grill and the sweat beading his hairline as he passes the ball with friends he's known longer than me.
I love all of it. Taking a photo of the windows for my mother. Chasing and laughing with my nephew and sitting an watching my father.

When it comes to writing weather, pathetic fallacy is a technique you can always fall back on to set the mood of your scene. And, airhead writer that I am, I like to let the mood of the sky affect the mood of my writing.
