Encantober Day 1: Sunset
Pepa sat down on the hillside overlooking the meadow. Today was easier than usual. She had been tasked with drying out a field that had gotten flooded when the river grew too full. It had been a rainy spring. Not her fault, of course. Okay, maybe some of it was her fault. Her boyfriend, Carlos, had broken up with her, and she took it pretty hard. But not all of it! Not all weather was her fault. She kept trying to tell people, and no one listened…
Thankfully, drying things out didn’t tax her as much as making it rain did. All she had to do was think happy thoughts and the sun came beaming down, strengthened by her gift. Usually, she’d think of her siblings. Or if there was a cute boy that she had her eye on, that worked too. When she was younger, it was animals that did the trick. She had no shortage of happy thoughts. It was the sad ones that were harder.
She’d settled in with her book, opening it eagerly. It was a new book, and she was dying to see how it would end.
A couple chapters in, she felt a shadow blocking the sunlight. Peering up, she saw a guy she didn’t recognize. Someone new, in their town? That didn’t happen often.
“Mind if I join you?” He spoke up.
“Go right ahead.” She folded the corner of her page and closed the book, setting it on the grass beside her.
“Hope I didn’t interrupt you reading.” He sat down next to her.
“No, it’s fine.” She was dying to know what happened next, but this new guy intrigued her. “I haven’t seen you around before. Are you new here?”
He nodded. “My family just moved here. My name’s Félix.”
“Pepa.” She took his proffered hand, shaking it. His hand felt strong, rough. Pepa felt sparks go through her that had nothing to do with her gift.
“It’s nice to meet you, Pepa. I was exploring around and came upon this little meadow here.” He held a hand in front of his face conspiratorially. “To be honest, I needed a break from my little siblings. They drive me crazy sometimes.”
Pepa laughed at the comment. “How many siblings do you have?”
“Five. And I’m the oldest.” He rolled his eyes playfully. “Do you have siblings?”
She nodded. “A brother and sister, but we’re triplets, so no one is really the oldest. Well, Julieta acts like she is, but she’s only like five minutes older. Can’t have gained that much wisdom during that time.”
His laughter was one of the most beautiful sounds she’d ever heard. “Oh, I’m sure she gained so much wisdom. Those five minutes were very important.”
Pepa gasped and shoved him reflexively.
He fell over. For a second, Pepa was afraid she’d hurt him, but he sat up like nothing was wrong. “Hey, us older siblings have to stick together!” He defended himself.
“She’s not-“ Pepa began, outraged, but stopped short at the grin that cracked on his face.
“I’m kidding.” He shook his head good-naturedly. “Lighten up, Pepa.”
Those words struck dangerously close to home. How many times had the other kids told her the same thing? How many times had her mamá warned her to rein in her emotions? She blinked rapidly to quell the tears. Clear skies, clear skies, clear skies…
Félix cleared his throat. “Okay, that was a bad joke. Sorry.” He offered her a sheepish smile. “Anyway…you said you had a brother too?”
“Bruno.” Her voice was flat. She’d managed to stop the spiral, but it always took her a little bit to pull herself out of a funk. “His name’s Bruno.”
“Bruno.” Félix scratched his head. “I haven’t met him yet.”
Pepa barked a laugh. “I don’t imagine you would have. He hardly ever leaves his tower.”
“Tower?”
Pepa gestured towards their casita. It was barely visible from this distance, but one could still make out the distinctive shape of a tower.
“Okay, Bruno has a tower. Why not?”
Pepa appreciated his nonchalance. People weren’t so accepting of Bruno. Granted, Félix hadn’t met him yet, but Pepa had a feeling he’d be different. He was so friendly; she just couldn’t imagine him being mean to Bruno.
“Wait…” Félix appeared to be puzzling something out. “My papá said that’s where the Madrigals live. Are you a Madrigal? Is it true what people say, about the magic gifts?” He sounded genuinely curious, his voice lacking the usual tone of suspicion.
“Yes, I’m a Madrigal,” Pepa said simply, ignoring the second question. “Tell me about your family. I feel like we’ve just been talking about mine.”
Caught off guard by her abruptness, Félix shrugged. “Well, they don’t have magic gifts, but they’re still pretty cool. Most of the time. My papá is named Roberto, my mamá is Antonia, and then there’s my siblings: Felipe…”
If Pepa said she remembered all the names he listed off, she’d be lying. She was too focused on the dimples in his cheeks when he smiled, the excitement in his voice as he told her about all his family members. It was clear he loved them very much, and she found that sweet.
Suddenly, he stopped talking. “Is it just me, or did the sun get brighter?” He shielded his eyes, glancing up at the sky.
Horrified, Pepa followed his eyes. It was true. She’d become so happy, enthralled by his presence, that she’d unwittingly made the sun shine more brightly. “Sorry,” she apologized, rubbing the end of her braid nervously.
“Why are you sorry?” He asked, confused. “It’s not like you control the sun.” He tried to meet her eyes, which bored firmly into the ground. “Wait- do you control the sun?” The realization seemed to dawn on him. “Is that your gift? You control the sun?”
He sounded awed, not scared. Pepa took that as a good sign. “Technically, I affect the sun,” she corrected. “Other weather too. It’s connected to my emotions.”
Her cheeks grew red. Why did she admit that? Félix had a way of disarming her. She was in trouble if he kept going like this.
But he seemed to take it in stride. “What does bright sunlight mean?” He pointed up at the still blazing sun.
“It means happiness.” A thin veil of fog enveloped Pepa, for which she was grateful.
“And the fog?” Félix observed her. “Wait, you’re blushing. Are you okay?” His eyebrows wrinkled concernedly.
She gave a noncommittal shrug. “Whatever I feel visibly manifests as various weather phenomena. My emotions are on full display for everyone all the time.” She swept her hand over her head. “You tell me if I’m okay.”
“Doesn’t seem like it,” he deduced. He scooted closer to her. “That seems like… a lot.”
She scoffed. “You can say that again! Julieta got the most useful gift. She can heal people with her food. And Bruno, he sees the future. What do I get? Here, Pepa; why don’t you get a gift that makes you thunderstorm when you’re mad and rain when you’re sad? That’ll surely help the town!” She huffed. The cloud that had sprung up overhead weighed heavily on her.
Félix studied her. “And makes the sun shine when you’re happy,” he pointed out.
“What?” Pepa was still mired down in her turmoil.
“Earlier, when the sun was brighter, you said it was because you’re happy.” He reached out his hand towards her, placing it on the grass between them. “So it’s not all bad.”
“I suppose not,” she conceded. “It’s still dumb though. And a lot of pressure. You try dealing with the knowledge that the town’s crops depend on how you feel that year.”
“Because you’re so happy you’ll dry them out?”
“Try because if I’m too sad I’ll drown them.” Pepa hmphed. The corner of her lip curved upward though in recognition of his attempt to cheer her up.
“I see.” Félix tapped his chin thoughtfully. “Guess we’ll just have to make sure you stay happy.”
Again, the words she’d heard a million times before came out of his mouth. Once again, they lacked the tinge of cruelty that normally accompanied them. She peered over through her fingers to see him beaming at her. “Good luck with that.”
“I seem to be doing a pretty good job so far. You were happy earlier,” he noted with a smirk.
Pepa couldn’t help the smile that erupted on her face.
“There’s that beautiful smile,” Félix said. “Glad to see it again.”
Was he flirting with her? Pepa couldn’t believe it. Okay, lots of boys had flirted with her, but this one was different. He was special. She could feel it. With a start, she looked up to find the cloud had vanished and the sun had returned to its previous brightness; albeit far lower in the sky.
She cleared her throat. “It’s getting late.” She pointed towards the setting sun. “I should get back home before my mamá starts wondering where I am.”
“Of course.” Félix helped her up. “Wouldn’t want her to think you were out with a boy or something.” His lip quirked into a smile.
Oh, he was definitely flirting with her. “What she doesn’t know won’t hurt her.” She flashed him a coy smile. Two could play at that game.
They walked back together until he reached the street where his family lived. “Until next time, rayo de sol.” He waved goodbye.
The townspeople who were outside later said they’d never seen such a brilliant sunset.

To complete the trio of Madrigal men and their changes in appearance, I imagine Bruno having to cut his hair because of a bad joke from Camilo, remembering the experiences of Felix and Agustin and preparing for a similar reaction from Antonio. Nothing prepared him for Alma's reaction.
Come get ya'll angst ✨
Tumblr media
It felt childish, so utterly ridiculous: having to cut his hair because Camilo got gum in it. Bruno hadn't seen anyone do that since he was ten.
It was annoying, but it was only hair. It would grow back. Bruno certainly felt weird though. He hadn't had short hair since he was in his early teens.
"Think we're in for another freak out from the kids?" Félix asked with a laugh.
"Doubt it," Bruno said, running a hand through his new, much shorter hair. "Tonito's older than Luisa and Lola were when you two shaved."
He couldn't imagine Antonio wailing that he didn't know who Bruno was. Antonio wasn't a baby anymore.
Indeed, Antonio just said, "You look nice, Tio!" and left it at that, thank goodness.
His mamá however...
She froze in the doorway with a strangled gasp, her eyes wide and one hand on her heart.
"Mamá?" Bruno's voice sharpened with worry as he and his sisters jumped to their feet. She'd gone so pale, her eyes watered, she looked like she'd seen a ghost...
Oh. Oh no.
Much more self-conscious now, Bruno pulled his hood up.
"Sorry!" he said quickly. "I-I didn't- I mean, I didn't think, I...Um..."
Alma stepped forward and gently pushed the hood back down, holding Bruno's face in her hands. Her smile wobbled and Camilo looked like he was drowning in guilt.
"You look like your papá," Alma said softly. She patted his cheek and Bruno heard how her breath shook as she walked past him to the table.

This has been sitting in my folder for too long. A mini light study where Mirabel sits at her Papá’s door every night waiting for him to take her back to bed—only he won’t because he left.🥺
She does this for a long time trying not to fall asleep against the wall or else her Tías will find her the next morning and realize she wasn’t sleeping in her bed. Then that means she can’t use a candle and come down to his door every night anymore. Just imagine the family gradually brainwashing her over time to make her think Bruno was her Tío instead.
What’s worse—imagine the emotional damage her and Bruno go through having to be apart, with Bruno watching her within the walls drowning in regret for leaving and feeling the urge to comfort her and Mirabel crying for him. He’d be so miserable with bad dreams and his choices haunting him. Mirabel would be groomed to forget him soon. It’s too sad to think about in this AU…

Imagine if the miracle skipped every third child in the family. That would have Bruno, Mirabel and Antonio without gifts.
Oh boy...
When the triplets received their doors, they and Alma didn't know what to expect, so the three kids opened them.
Julieta and Pepa got a magical room with each a gift. Julieta could heal with her food, and Pepa's mood effected the weather. But Bruno didn't...
Instead, his door faded away, and he didn't get a gift...
Not knowing what to do with her giftless son, Alma basically forced Bruno to stay in the nursery, while his sisters each have their own magical room and power...
Due to not having a gift like his sisters, Bruno was deemed useless by his mother, even by Pepa sometimes. It quite hurt him...
For the next 35 years, Bruno slept in the nursery, even if his nieces and nephew stayed in there...
As the years passed, Isabela, Dolores, Luisa and Camilo got their own magical rooms and gifts. Everything was okay for a while, until Mira's ceremony came...
Just like her Tío Bruno, her door faded in front of her, as well as not getting a gift...
And just like last time, Mirabel was dumped in the nursery...
Alma and Pepa immediately blamed Bruno, saying that he must have effected the magic, that it was his fault, yada yada...
Bruno didn't leave. Instead, he focused his attention on Mirabel, making sure she was happy despite the lack of a gift. He had to deal with it for 40 years, after all.
Over time, the two grew close, even to a point where Mira accidentally called her Tío "papá' multiple times...
5 years later, Antonio was born.
Bruno was the one who took care of him most of the time, since Pepa and her side of the family were too busy helping the town...
As a result, Antonio's first word was Papá, but not towards Félix...
It didn't help that Antonio said "I don't have a mami?" near Pepa...
Years passed, and it was time for Antonio's ceremony. Due to the previous one, Alma and Pepa told both Bruno and Mira to not attend the ceremony, not wanting her youngest son and grandson to end up giftless like them.
But Bruno and Mira secretly attended anyways, hoping that Tonito would get a gift.
But, just like them, he didn't...
Unfortunately, Bruno and Mira got discovered shortly after Antonio's door faded, and it wasn't pretty...
And just like his Tío and prima, Antonio had to stay in the nursery again...

Imagining that Alma-and-Pedro-divided-AU and further AU-ify it by making the girls end up with Pedro while Alma has Bruno :0 -gvr
That would also be a super interesting take!
Oh my gosh. Alma would definitely spoil Bruno rotten if she raised him alone, and so would the rest of the Encanto. He'd be their prince, and not even some negative prophecies could make them think ill about the boy who has lost so much.
The Golden Child would have no competition.
And then imagine the family reuniting after however many years! Julieta and Pepa would have grown into upstanding, kind, and hardworking young women along their papá and would just be totally thrown off by their long-lost younger brother, who can't even do laundry on his own. Or who refuses to carry his plate into the kitchen and clean up after himself---
Pedro would try to connect with Bruno, but the little brat would give him a very hard time. Maybe Bruno would also blindly throw blame around about how "Everything would have been so much better if you hadn't left Mamá!" and then stomp away in a rage fit.
Actually, Bruno would only be very afraid of change and a new future he now has to share with three strangers barging in and pushing him away from his mother.
Eventually, however, Bruno would learn how awesome his larger family is, and Julieta and Pepa would grow to love their pampered but mischievous and caring little brother.

I'm just a sucker for bratty teen/young adult Bruno.

For your Papa! Antonio AU, would Julieta and Agustin try to reclaim Mirabel after the reveal? Or is Antonio just like,” No. She is my daughter now. You had your chance and blew it. Go away or my animals will fight you.” I can’t imagine Mirabel willingly going to her former parents since Papa Antonio is the only constant in her life.
Yes, they do—When spine family finally acknowledges her disappearance, the assume she ran away, like Bruno. Antonio, Bruno, and Casita are the only ones who know she’s come back as a baby.
When she is first reintroduced, they try to coax her into coming back to Julieta and Agustín; They think that since she’s only a year old, they can reclaim her as their daughter. But that doesn’t work—she’s spent all of her time from birth with Antonio in his room. She lived with him for her entire life, even if that’s only a year, so she views Antonio as her papá. Mirabel sees Julieta and Agustín as “Tía and Tío” because that’s what she heard Antonio call them and he never corrected her.
Tumblr media
At one point, Alma forces them apart. She thinks that Antonio shouldn’t be fathering her, when her ‘real’ parents were there to raise her. She sends Antonio to his room and keeps him there, only opening it to give him food and water. This goes on for a week, and after Antonio’s animals going haywire, Mirabel screaming like a banshee and Casita going ballistic? They give up.
Alma was really the only one trying to get Mirabel back to Julieta’s side again. While Julieta wanted her back, she gave up up after she saw how Mirabel reacted to taking her papá away for only a day. Alma just wanted to save face, but it was too late; Antonio was her father now and it couldn’t be changed. Julieta and Agustín eventually come around and accept the situation, viewing Mirabel as their sobrina.

¡Feliz Día del Padre!
To all our fictional papás out there may we shower you with endless amounts of love. We'll hold the angst for today just for you. And a very big extra squishy hug also to the adoptive daddos, blended and found families.
Short excerpt from La Luna cause Bruno's adoptive kiddos love him very very much. (Sass is Benji's love language ahaha)
*plz ignore any mistakes, honestly I should go back and edit all my old chapters but I'm lazy ha*
Luna's POV
**************
Soft knocks came from our door as it slowly opened and two heads peeked in through the crack. It was an adorable view, making me giggle. Seeing us awake they flung the door open, shouting at the top of their lungs, "¡Buenos días, papá! ¡Feliz Día del Padre!". Beno balanced a tray with plates full of food.
"We tried to make your perico!", Teo grinned. "Beno isn't as good as you..", he looked back at Benji, earning him a gentle kick. I knew they were doing this for Bruno, since they had both asked me how to make the eggs for breakfast. Benji promised he wouldn't burn the house down. It was too precious. They brought the tray down onto the bed and sat themselves next to us. Bruno seemed lost for words, twice already this morning. He pushed the tray up and out of the way and motioned to Teo, "Come here for a minute niño..", he patted his chest, getting Mateo to lay curled up to him. As Bruno hugged him pressing his face into Mateo's golden hair, Benji stared with furrowed brows at us. "Don't ask me to...", he sarcastically grinned. "Oh sí.", Bruno patted his shoulder asking him for a hug. I giggled at them watching Benji shake his head, no, making me laugh more. "Sí... it's my day..", Bruno busted out the big one; emotional guilt. I wanted to laugh so badly, straining to keep myself together. "Fine..", Benji rolled his eyes, wrapping his arms around the three of us. Sighing happily, I could stay right here forever with them.
"Eat your eggs before they get cold. And pretend you like them...", Benji's muffled words forced Bruno to chuckle into the mass of squished bodies.
I watched as the three of them sat happily sharing their food with each other on the bed. It was hard to imagine any other life now. The one we had escaped from feeling like a distant memory. At least the boys get to experience this.. A family, a routine, love.

The Sound of Falling Sand Pt. 4
Fingers aching, you thread the last of the embroidery on the poncho you’ve spent the last six days on. The shop is really slowing down, forcing you to rely on the steady work of keeping the store stocked for people short of clothing. Part of you wonders if the vision could really be responsible for the slow in customers, as if his vision might actually be able to predict and alter the future to create any unfortunate scenario, but you knew from the heat that the hottest month of the year was approaching. No one wanted to spend money on clothes when it was so hot that too many layers could turn to be fatal.
It has been nice to spend time with your Papá as well. The other day you were sitting down with him as he taught you the basics of hat making, saying he always wanted to but never seemed to find the time. You don’t remember much honestly, but you remember enjoying your dad’s presence as his deep voice rose in fell. It was rare you took the time to talk to him like this. Luckily, you were both smart savers and had enough to stay afloat for a while. After all, this lull was partially anticipated.
Either way, you were so glad that this project was done. Not only did you completely wreck your hands trying to finish this project quickly, but it got a little tedious after a few days of work and you kept having to remind yourself why you were doing it.
Bruno visited you twice over the course of the project, but you always kept it hidden from view when he entered your shop. Bruno was too polite to pry or snoop anyway.
Almost as if he could read your thoughts, Bruno appears from the doorway. He grins when he sees you, stopping short however when he sees you frail and surprise, obviously trying to hide something. “Well that was just sad. Since you clearly can’t keep a secret, you might as well show me so I can see what it is you’re up to.”
You hold up hands up in defense, wanting to surprise him properly.
“It’s nothing! It’s nothing. Why would I bore you with my day-to-day work?” His smirk was contagious and you felt your lips tugging into a small smile in response, giggling uncontrollably. You knew he didn’t believe you, but watching you squirm must have brought him some amusement because he kept up the joke still. “For the same reason you feel the need to hide it. Spill it, giggles.”
You can feel the heat rise in your face as you let the tension in your body go. You were caught red handed, and since it was ready anyway, it wouldn’t hurt to go ahead and give him the present.
“Well, Bruno Madrigal, since you’re always admiring my work so much, I made you something as well.” You reach down to grab the stashed ruaña, but as you do you take another look at your hands and something makes you stop. You’re aware of Bruno’s eyes on you, and he seems just as confused as you. “Something wrong, llavería?”
“Yeah, it’s just.. I had the strongest sense of dejavú.” You keep looking in front of you, then at your hands as you try to make sense of the lingering feeling of familiarity. What is this feeling from? You can feel Bruno behind you, and you turn to see him close to you. He seems to notice the proximity the same time you do and steps back self-consciously, blush rising. Still, he maintains eye contact with the area you were looking at. You turn your eyes back there as well, meeting your battered hands. “It’s my hands, I think.”
Bruno nods approvingly, “They we’re in my vision, remember? Along with me and the villagers?” You nod as the memory comes to you. “It’s just a weird feeling.” Bruno’s face catches for a moment, almost like he’s confused, before he catches on. With a slight smile, he looks at you with amusement, “Imagine how I feel. Dejavú is practically my life at this point.”
You mimicked his smile before turning back to the task at hand. “Anyway, I noticed your ruana’s been looking small and worn, so I decided to make you something a bit fresher.” You held up the sage green poncho, showing off the sides where you hand embroidered hourglasses and swirls to represent his gift. You then let go of the shoulders, holding on to the hood only so that it fell to hang by the hood. “It even has a hood in case Pepa is thundering or you’re feeling like hiding out from the villagers.”
The look on Bruno’s face was priceless. His eyebrows were raised in surprise, but his eyes were narrowed in interest, smile tugging at his lips. “You didn’t.” His voiced cracked slightly, and he took it in his hands. “That’s the fabric I pointed to the other day.” You smiled, proud of yourself, “Yep, couldn’t let the opportunity pass me by.” He looked speechless for a moment, before his eyes fell to your hands again and his face fell.
“That’s why your hands are so torn up. You shouldn’t have hurt yourself to please me.” He grabs your hands to check them. You pulled them away, however, grabbing the ruana and helping him put it on. “Nonsense. It only hurts because I rushed it. Besides, I wanted to.” You took at step back to admire your handiwork, before realizing your actions could be misconstrued for checking him out. You blush and meet his eyes to see if he saw you. He did, of course, and his cheeks matched yours because of it. “It looks good on you. I made it a bit bigger in hopes that we can put some meet on your bones, but it doubles as being extra cozy in the meantime.”
The smile he wore when he finally saw himself in the mirror was worth all of the time spent on it. It made you think back to your theory. “Bruno?” He looked over at his name, eyebrow raised and mouth half-opened as if ready to speak. “How do you feel right now?”
It was a weird question, but he answered honestly. “I’m feeling really happy, a little excited even. Why?” You perked up, moving towards him. He immediately tensed, questioning your motives. Instead of doing anything rash though, you gently grabbed his hand and dragged him out of the house and into the nearby tree line. The villagers watched you pass by, whispering to each other as you passed. You waited until you were past the last row of houses before answering Bruno’s numerous questions as to where you were going. “Let’s test my theory. I bet you will see something good because you’re in a good mood.”
One look and you knew Bruno didn’t like this turn of events, but he still held onto your hand as you finished walking out into the field. He handed you a small pot of sand and together you got the ritual started. Wordlessly, you both finished and sat down. Before you could start, though, you knew you would have to do something about the growing nerves on Bruno’s face. “I know you’re a little shy about telling your stories, so I thought I would tell one of my own to get the process started.”
Bruno still didn’t say anything though, instead he watched you as you recanted your tale of a small child and his dog crossing into the world of the afterlife. “Once upon a time,” Bruno scoffed, gaining your attention because of it, and he blushed. “Sorry, it’s just a very cliché way to introduce a story. Try introducing the place and time first, then the character.” You narrowed your eyes playfully and crossed your arms in a way that was too dramatic to be serious, “Bruno Madrigal, are you telling the story or am I?” He flushes and folds his hands timidly, “I’m sorry, go on..”
Your smile reassures him as you continued with flourish, “It was a simple Colombian village in present day time, the hero of our story, or simply our unfortunate protagonist, is Julio Riverá. Julio lived a simple life as a hat maker with his family. He had a secret that no one knew about. Julio wanted more than anything in this world to be an actor! There was only one problem, his mother was an actor before she left the family to be a famous superstar. It was very dramatic. “ Bruno’s face twists in disapproval, and you can just tell he is biting back objections on your story telling, but you leave him no time to. “On his way to start his acting career, he becomes cursed! He and his dog, Dominic, travel to the spirit world to receive his family’s blessing. However, they scorn his for aspiring to become as actor. ¡Qué horrible!” With this, his face breaks into a deadpan as he stops you there. “You can’t just add in your own reactions! That takes away from the whole build up. You need to let the audience make up their own minds about your performance.”
The heat behind his words makes you burst out in giggles. If you were being totally honest, you were totally egging him on in hopes of seeing him react this way. Still, you raise an eyebrow in mock bravado, “Oh yeah? You got a better story?” He perks up before standing up and holding a hand out to pull you up. “As a matter of fact, I do.” You take his hand and rise quickly with him. He takes a step back, careful of the sand lines, and turns to you. He tells a pretty riveting story about two brothers on a journey to discover themselves in the light of their father’s passing. The older brother, Hernando, is afraid of nothing, and helps teach his younger, more timid brother, Jorge, why it means to be a man. You must admit, it was a really good story, and watching him tell it with such dedication made your heart flutter. Something about the way he lit up when he painted a picture of the endless whirlwind of thoughts you knew took place in his head, it just got to you. Flushing slightly, you take his hands again when he’s finished and sit him down. “That was awesome, and infinitely better than my story. Thank you for sharing it. Now, let’s do the vision.”
You could tell he was still nervous, but the excitement and happiness from the previous moments bled through the anxiety. You were determined to catch that exact feeling before the vision. He took a deep breath, worry fading away, as he activated the torrent of sand whipping around your heads. The sand seemed much lighter in color this time, almost golden, but tainted with hints of green. You turn to Bruno to see his eyes are still glowing bright green, but the golden light has bathed his features as well. He looks at you with a look that escapes you for the moment, before looking up at the swirling images to your right. The images aren’t above your head this time, and you can’t help but wonder why. “What are you looking for?”
Images flash before your eyes before he can fully respond. A blushing Julieta holding a man’s hand as he proposes. The family cheering happily. “It’s my sister’s proposal. My Mamá wanted me to look for anything that might happen.” You see Bruno and his family sitting down for dinner. You’re there. The images keep flashing by, all positive, but you’re eyes stray to Bruno. He looks very handsome with the golden light cascading down his features, and you take the moment to admire them. He meets your gaze seconds later, unbreaking and confident. The sand fades slowly, but you two don’t look away. Finally, he clears his throat and looks to the tablet in his lap.
You turn to look at the tablet yourself, curious as to what the final image was, but he turns the tablet away from your view, “Sorry, this one is for my eyes only.” You pout, now exponentially more curious as to what he’s hiding. If it was just another of part of Julieta’s proposal, surely he wouldn’t need to hide it. “We should get back anyway. I have a few more people that requested my services today.” He stands up and offers his hand once again, blush creeping to his ears. You take it a bit too eagerly, and you both make your way back towards the village. “No bad stuff this time,” the smile bleeds through into your words and you sneak a peak at his face. He is reluctant to show his own small smile, but it’s there. “There were no bad signs, but we would need more testing to be sure.”
You roll your eyes playfully and shove him slightly, “You just don’t want to admit I was right! Even the sand looked different this time. Have you ever seen the sand glow golden?” He shook his head, “Never.” You smile knowingly and raise your eyebrow at him. He shakes his head adamantly, “We can’t be sure after just one test! What if it was something else? Maybe something I ate?” You rolled your eyes again and took your final steps to your porch. “I’m right and you know it.” He finally let’s go if your hand, never even noticing he was holding it or perhaps not letting on he did. You didn’t mind though. “So, my sister is getting married. Weird.” You smiled and gestured to the both of you, “Well, we’re all getting older. It happens.” He blushes and shifts from one foot to the other. The tablet in his bag clanging with the others. “Would you go with me? When the wedding does happen? You don’t have to be a date or anything, but-“ You give his hand a reassuring squeeze and nod, “Definitely. Doesn’t have to be a date, at least, not if you don’t want it to be.
Bruno seems to have trouble making words at that, so you giggle to yourself. Giddy and happy with the recent turn of events, you turn on a dime and sprint back to your house. You tell back behind you with another giggle, “I’ll see you later, Bruno Madrigal!”

[Tacones Rojos] Chapter 5: Frame of Mind
Summary:
ACT I: BRUNO – A curveball throws Bruno in between fiction and reality.
+☕☕☕+
“Okay, can you give us a read of Héctor’s lines, please? From the top.”
Bruno wouldn't leave everything behind if his mind was never opened in the first place.
It all started when his Papá first took him and his sisters one day to watch a play. Bruno’s eyes widened in amazement when he saw the costumes, the dramatics, the music. It appealed to his imagination, how impossible feats can be achieved through magic, or how there’s always an adventure to be had.
When they came home that day, Bruno started to build his world and made up performances. Pepa would always beg him if she could act in one. Sometimes he’d concede for his sister, but most of the time, he was the actor and his family, a willing audience.
That day at the local theater started young Bruno’s fascination with acting.
His fascination eventually grew into a passion when they got their first TV. He would cuddle up close to his sisters watching cartoons on Saturday mornings, but his favorite would be sneaking up behind their parents while they watched dramas. He was curious, but his Mamá didn’t want him and his sisters in the room because she deemed the shows inappropriate for a child. The stories were always extreme and sometimes unreal, but he liked that it almost always had a happy ending. He was too young to know any better and they all went over his head anyway.
His favorite was the one where a man fell in love with a woman who didn’t believe in fate. The man had a tragic past, but it never stopped him from being a passionate lover with a golden heart. It was also his Mamá’s favorite telenovela, but Bruno knew she would have fainted if she knew that behind her back, he snuck to watch it and even acted like the leading man.
Bruno was never interested in the love scenes anyway. He simply liked the feeling of pretending to be someone else.
Back when the world was a lot less complicated, he and his sisters could be whoever they wanted to be. His Papá beamed with pride when he told him that he wanted to be an actor. Bruno could still remember it, even now, how he ruffled his hair and told him he’d be the first one to watch him then.
But then tragedy happened, and their lives forever changed.
The thoughts of the past mingled with his present.
Bruno closed his eyes and steadied his breathing. This wasn’t the first time he’s been in an audition, but this particular one hit differently. The words that came out of his mouth were sure, his voice steadied and deep just like he practiced so many times before.
“Ay Imelda, ¿cómo podría olvidarte? Eres como el sol que brilla en mi cielo, la canción que canto en mi corazón…”
It has now been two decades since Pedro passed away.
The day Bruno lost his Papá was the day he and his sisters were forced to grow up too quickly. His Mamá was at a loss, from being a happy wife to a tragic widow in one night. She thought their life would’ve been different, but fate, just as it was kind, was also a cruel mistress. Alma couldn’t even find the time to grieve properly. The business the family built struggled without the head of the home, and she had children to feed.
So she didn't dare mourn until she never did.
Bruno watched her tirelessly care for him and his sisters and revive everything on her own. When it came time for him and his sisters to decide their futures, she immediately shut his dream down. There was more that the family needed, that what he wanted for himself was unbecoming. A pipe dream. Helping the town through the empire she had built from the ground up after the death of her husband was the path she had expected Bruno to be on, and it was the end of that discussion. Bruno didn’t like it, but he obeyed. She meant well, and his Mamá had given everything up for them. So for a long time, he found himself stuck doing something he was good at, but never passionate about.
That was until he stumbled upon people who were just like him.
“Nunca te olvidé, mi amor. Ahora te pido, ven conmigo. Juntos podemos construir nuestro propio paraíso...”
Alma was furious when he announced he was leaving the family home to pursue his dream in the city. There were a lot of angry words exchanged, but he had made up his mind. He was done following the path his Mamá laid for him, even if it guaranteed him success. Bruno knew deep down that he wasn’t happy, and he wanted to be the kind of man his Papá made him believe he could be so long ago. He would do it on his own terms. Bruno trusted himself that could make it.
So Bruno reached out to a friend for help, and his new life began the moment he arrived.
Just like all the dreamers, he had been working his ass off ever since.
“Okay, now we’ll do it a little differently. This time, interpret Héctor’s reaction when meets Imelda for the first time. He doesn’t know that she is with another, but he is convinced that she is his destiny. And…action!”
Bruno's palms started to feel clammy when the casting director looked at him expectantly. This isn’t in the script Julián sent through.
Then SHE suddenly popped into his head. Her and her blood-red heels.
Everything blurred and Bruno was transported back to the bar. She was so close, yet so far. The alcohol had been long gone, but he felt the buzz on his fingertips. How is she here?
He looked around, half expecting a nasty prank, but there was no one else. No directors, no producers, no pressure.
It was just him and her.
Bruno fumbled forward, unsure. She just stood there, waiting. He blinked a few times, wondering why she was there. His eyes, filled with yearning for the phantom in front of him, made him think otherwise. “Señorita…” He asked in disbelief. “¿Crees en el destino?”
The panel observing him murmured to each other. A man with a stoic expression scribbled something down.
Bruno's destiny waited for him at the edge of his fantasy. The music of the night pounded in his ears.
He would not let her go again.
“He tomado demasiados tragos, solo para tener el valor de hablar contigo.” Bruno confessed, his speech speeding up as he tried to grasp air. She smiled at him and the noises around them swelled to a crescendo. “Creo que he muerto y me he ido al cielo porque nunca he visto un ángel tan hermoso como tú.” Bruno reached out to touch her. “A ver...adónde nos puede llevar la noche, ¿vale?”
A shrill ring broke Bruno’s daydream, making him yelp. The world returned itself to normal and he turned to see everyone staring at him with an unreadable expression on their faces. Fuck. What did he just do? The alarm continued until one of the panelists tapped their phone off.
Someone coughed.
“Okay, that’s all the time we have for you today. Gracias.” A woman with thick-rimmed glasses raised an eyebrow at him as the rest of them started shuffling papers. She nodded at the assistant standing at the door. “Next one, please.”

Life has become even more lively and colorful after moving to energetic and cheerful town.
The idea of moving wasn't an easy one to make. It took a lot of courage to move from a big city to a small town with your siblings and nieces and nephews. You almost broke your neck to convince your family but even if they complained about your stubborness to get away from the stress of the city, they were happy of the outcome.
Of course, for the people of the town who hasn't seen anyone new coming to the town, your family has become the next big talk, making your family a well-known one.
Well... After the Madrigal Family.
You learnt of the thing that happened to the important family which was important for the town's people. How Casita was destroyed, how the whole village was rebuilt with other's help and how the family lost their gifts...
You felt guilty though, feeling as if you were like an intruder after learning everything they went through as a whole town.
What you didn't expect was a woman's voice interrupting the conversation you were having with a neighbour.
"Excuse me but, hearing this kind of words made me feel bad... you have nothing to be guilty about."
When you lifted your head to see a very tall young woman, you looked at her with a shocked face, not being used to see such a strong and tall woman. You felt your cheeks got hotter and waved your sheepishly at her.
"Ah, sorry about that. I just couldn't help myself but to feel... Anyways, what was your name, dear? I have the worst memory of names, really..."
"No need to apologize ma'am! I'm Luisa Madrigal. It's nice to meet you!"
You two shook your hands and exchanged names, after having a pleasant conversation with the teen. She let out a gasp and turned to look at her home that was away from the town.
"By the way señorita (L/N), Abuela wanted to meet you and your family! That's what we do when there is someone new here but since it's been a long time she wanted to throw a party for you!"
And by accepting the invitation, even though you didn't know, you really changed your life.
For good.
Tumblr media
Although it's been about 3 years since the first step of your life's change, old memories still make you smile and feel like you're a young girl in love.
The “love” part was true though...
When the first light of the morning hits your eye and breaks your good sleep, you grumbled and couldn’t help yourself but straighten up and looked at the man sleeping next to you.
His curls, although they fell on his face, made him look so innocent that it made your heart feel so full of love. Since you couldn’t wait for him to wake up, you put your hand on his chest and started to plant multiple kisses across all over his face.
"Bruno... mi cariño~~ The love of my life, my dear husband~"
You cooed and continued to lay teasing kisses all over his face and neck and by the subtle smirk on his face, which was a proof that he wasn't sleeping and just pretending, he finally opened his eyes to look at you lovingly with the sleep still evident in his eyes.
"Mi ceilo, don't wiggle around too much. We wouldn't want to hurt the baby with our love..."
You threw your head back with a groan and sat on the bed you shared with him, letting him get up as well. You looked around the room you were sitting, looking at all the little trinkets you had with Bruno and seeing that he kept all of them with himself made you think about the first time you two met.
Tumblr media
"Uhm... Hello? How are you?"
You looked at the man in front of you, playing with his fingers anxiously. He was standing in the middle of two tall women, Julieta and Pepa who were his triplets. They were smiling excitedly at you, obvious that they were as excited as you were to meet them. But you weren't going to lie...
The man looked so tiny and cute between his sisters.
You couldn't help but giggle at them, being amused to see them be all different than each other. You always heard that twins and multiple siblings can have different mannerisms but actually seeing one was even more wholesome.
"Hola, my name is (Y/N) (Y/L/N)! I'm so glad to meet you all!"
The two women grinned at you and told their names to you, the one in the yellow dress was so eager to hug you though.
"What a lovely and kind woman you are! We're happy to have you and your family-OHHH LOOK AT THE KIDS! THEY'RE SO CUTE!!"
You stand there awkwardly while the rest of your family was having the time of their lives. You realized another one near you and looked around to see the man you talked to a few minutes ago.
You extended your hand out to him and grinned joyfully while he jumped slightly at seeing a hand in front of him so suddenly.
"I couldn't get your name earlier... If that's okay, would you give me your lovely name?"
He flushed at the end of your sentence and looked at the hand between you and him while thinking to himself, She thinks my name is fancy?, being giddy inside. He threw some salt over his shoulder which you looked at curiously and took your hand in his.
"It's Bruno... Nice to see you in our town!"
"It's a pretty name for a cute man like yourself!"
"H-huh..?"
At the end of his sentence, his voice came out louder without him realizing out of shock and he cringed at it, thinking he weirded you out. But you had a resssuring smile and before you were able to talk, you saw a rat come out of his poncho.
You were startled to see a rat, not because you were disgusted by it but you didn't expect it. You had a one-year-old nephew who would pat the weirdest things and try to put it in his mouth.
But Bruno didn't think like that, thinking that you didn't like them just like everbody else.
"Hey, there... How are you all doing?"
Well, to cut it short, the rats liked your reaction and Bruno?
He felt the so-called butterflies and felt his heart beat as if it wanted to rip out. Seeing his friends slither over your arm and you not being disgusted made him feel... flustered
He watched your family and his own walk towards the Casita and you waved him to follow after everyone. He looked at your back with widened eyes when he realized something.
" Oh Díos, did she just flirt with me!?"
Tumblr media
You giggled at the memories and rubbed your swollen stomach. He watched you with adoration and took your other hand to plant a kiss on it. You swatted his chest playfuly and swung your legs down to get up from the bed.
"Come on, sleepyhead! We need to get down for breakfast and I need to help Julietta."
He chuckled and nodded his head while watching you wear your green clothes to match with him. He looked around and spotted two little cribs with hourglass pendant on it in several shades of green. He walked up to them and took the little onesies in his hands with slight tears in his eyes.
"I never thought I'd have this, y'know? Thought I was too old to have any kids... to have... my little family... When I stopped to hope, you came into my life..."
"Thank you so much, mi vida... Thank you so much..."
"You deserve to be happy, mi vida... You're a very good man and will be a great papá."
You widened your eyes in shock and waddled to where his small form was standing. You took him into your arms and pat his curls between your hand. Pregnancy hormones affects him more than me...
Kissing his forehead, he hugged you while being careful to your swollen tummy. You cooed at him and rubbed his back, backing off to look at him, you kissed his nose and your lips stayed for several minutes. You kissed his eyes and cheeks, wiping the tears away.
You kissed his forehead one last time and felt two strong kicks in your stomach, making you wince in pain and Bruno panic since even he felt it.
" Are you okay, mi corazón!! It was a strong k-kick! Should I get Julietta? What kind of a question i-is th-that, of course I should- JULIE-"
"Calm down, calm down! I'm fine, dear. I believe they are just as angry as me because of the way you think of yourself... Or they’re angry because you didn’t do your telenovelas like usual..."
He was still unsure and your teasing didn’t ease him, even though he flushed at the thought of his babies loving his telenovelas, so he put his ear on your stomach to talk to the kids with anxious, big eyes.
" My loves, please don't give me a heart attack like that!! I'll not say things like that again so please don't hurt your mommy... And don’t worry, I’ll tell you what will happen later this night..."
He sighed in relief and looked up at you while extending his hand out.
"You know, I'm glad that your room no longer has long stairs like Mirabel said... I believe I'd die while walking up in this position... Thanks Casita!"
The house opened its windows and waved enthusiasticly at you, moving the bricks happily. You smiled at it and took your husband's hand gladly but before you could exit your shared room, an angry Julietta with a rolling pin, a Pepa with a big cloud above her head and a Luisa with a huge vase over her shoulders barged into the room.
"WHO DO WE NEED TO BEAT!!"
"IS THERE AN INTRUDER??!!"
"I'M READY TO PROTECT YOU TÍA (Y/N), TÍO BRUNO!!"
Bruno clinged to your arm while letting out a scream at their loud and sudden voices whereas you laughed 'till your stomach hurt.
They were really gonna be the best family for your babies and you loved every piece of the times like this.

I can imagine Bruno’s child getting very close to Maribel (especially if their mother isn’t in the picture either) but imagine if when she was looking for him, the child wanted to go with but was told no because it might not be safe. So instead they give maribel a drawing/letter to give to bruno about how they love and miss him.
Tumblr media
“But Prima Mira! I wanna come find mi papá!” Abigail pleaded, Mirabel turned sadly towards the child. Kneeling down placing her hands on the child’s shoulders.
“I’m sorry, but it’s too dangerous and I’d never forgive myself if you get hurt.” Mirabel said, and Abigail folded her arms.
“But he’s mi papá!” Abigail cried, throwing her arms in the air. Mirabel hugged her, “I’m sorry but it’s too dangerous.” Mirabel said, placing a kiss on their forehead.
Mirabel was the closest thing Abigail had to a sister, and mother. Mirabel’s been looking out for her ever since her father left when she was born. “Okay.” Abigail frowned, but then a lightbulb lit up in her head.
She rushed into the nursery since, also Abigail didn’t get a gift. Quickly grabbing the picture she drew of her father days ago, running back towards Mirabel. “Give this to mi papá when you find him okay.” She asked, and Mirabel looked at the picture.
She nodded, “And, tell him I love him and I miss him.” She said, Mirabel hugged Abigail. Placing the drawing into her satchel.
“Oh, tío Bruno. Here Abigail made this.” Mirabel said, taking out the drawing and handing it to her uncle. He smiled softly looking down at the drawing, of him and his daughter holding hands.
“She also said that, ‘She loves and misses you.’” She said, Bruno stared at the picture in awe, smiling softly fighting back the tears brimming his eyes.
“Thanks,” He said, before entering the secret doorway behind the wall. “Knock, knock, on wood.” He said, then crossed his fingers closing his eyes, and going back behind the wall.

Today is a special day. Mariano is going to propose to the love of his life, Isabela. The Madrigals had invited you and your family too. You threw on a cute outfit and just put on a soft lipstick (optional).
You smiled at your reflection in the mirror before you heard your father call out for you. “Y/n, cariño, we’re leaving!” He yelled out. “Coming papi!” You yelled back and breathed in, sprinting to the front door.
Your mom put her hand on your back with a soft smile plastered on her red lips. You guys walked over to casita, the soft breeze calming you.
Once the three of you reached the front door, Pepa opened it with a grin on her face. “Ay, hola!” The ginger greeted with a kiss on your moms cheek in which she returned. “Come in, come in!” Pepa leaded you to the dinner table.
Camilo heard his mom and grinned widely when he saw you. “Mi luna!” He exclaimed, wrapping his arms around you. “Hi, sol” You chuckled. “Take a seat over here next to me!” He said and took out the chair besides his seat.
You walked over and sat there. “What a gentleman!” You tease, his face pink at your words. “He gets it from me” Felix said from next to Camilo. “Papá!” Camilo yelled embarrassingly.
“Okay, everybody settle down!” Alma told everyone as they all sat down. Mirabel and Dolores glancing at each other anxiously which made you raise an eyebrow in confusion.
“The guzmans and the Madrigals together will be so good for the encanto” Alma spoke to Señora Guzaman. She chuckled and agreed.”Aswell as the L/n’s” Abuela complimented. Your mom nodded with a smile on her face. “Yes! then lets hope tonight is not a horrible disaster!” Señora Guzaman replied.
“To a perfect night!” Alma smiled before taking a seat on her chair. “Salute!” She raised her drink as well as all the others. You smiled and placed your drink down as everyone else did the same.
Mirabel and Dolores kept going on with their staring contest while everyone chatted and gossiped. “Avocado?” Mariano handed down the bowl of avocado in front of Mirabel’s face which made her gasp.
Meanwhile Mirabel got distracted with the sudden bowl in her face, Dolores took the chance to whisper something into Camilo’s ear. It had to be something bad because it made him cough and unconsciously shapeshift to many people.
You looked over at your dad who just shrugged at you. Alma poured more wine into señora Guzmans and your moms glass in order to distract the two. “Camilo fix your face” Felix told his son, who shook their head and fixed their expressions.
You took a bite of the steak on your plate nervously. What could be happening right now? Camilo also muttered something quietly to his dad causing the dark man to spit out his drink. All you could hear was ‘Bruno’s vision’ at the end of his sentence.
The adults widened their eyes at the scene. Alma gulped and spoke up, “Mirabel, the cream please” The elder asked with a fake smile. Mirabel nodded and passed the cream to her grandma.
You then looked over at Pepa who had a giant grey cloud above her head, her mouth wide opened as her husband shared the unknown conversation to her. “Clear skies, clear skies” She said to herself as she stroked her braid.
Pepa then carried on and passed the news to her sister, Julieta who just glared at her daughter in pure shock. “Mirabel? Everything okay?” You asked the short haired girl causing her to bump her head with the bottom of the table.
“Haha, yeah everything great! She’s just excited for Mariano to purpose which he should do as fast as he can!” Agustin replied quickly. You didn’t believe a word that he said.
“Well since everyone here has a talent, my mariano wanted to begin with a song! Luisa, could you bring over the piano?” Señora Guzaman added. Luisa looked up at the lady with glossy eyes. “O-okay” She whimpered sadly.
“Uh it’s actually a family tradition to sing after” Mirabel chuckled with nervousness. Mariano cleared his throat as he began speaking up. Soon Luisa came pushing the piano weakly with tears as she cried out.
“Camilo, what is going on?” You asked the worried boy besides you. “Uhm-” He began but Dolores answered before him. “Mirabel found Bruno’s vision, she’s in it, she’s gonna destroy the magic and now we’re all doomed!” The wide eyed girl yelled out in fear.
You gasped as an emerald green vision slid across the table. You felt your breath pace pick up, feeling as if it became harder for you to breathe. Camilo noticed and immediately put his arms around you. “Y/n!” He yelled, catching everyone’s attention.
Your chest rose up and down as you tried to maintain and control your breath. It seemed like your lungs were empty. Your mother gasped and got up as she recognized this. “Mi hija!” Your dad yelled, running up to you.
“She- She’s not breathing correctly!” Camilo shouted, tears of worry forming in his eyes. “She’s asthmatic! We need to get her out of here, casita is breaking!” Your mother cried out as Camilo carried you bridal style, sprinting out of Casita.
“Hold on a little longer, mi vida” He told you quietly. All you could do was nod as a cough escape you. He laid you down on the grass while your parents came sprinting to you.
“I think i have her inhaler here, espera” Your mom said, hurrying to look for it in her purse, Her glossy eyes making it hard to see. Camilo nodded, a tear escaping his hazel eyes.
“Lo encontré, here it is!” She exclaimed and put the blue inhaler in your mouth, pressing it down a few times until they saw your breath get a little more steady. “She’s getting better!” Your dad shouted happily.
Camilo wiped his tears away with his sleeve, looking down at your pained face. You gasped out when you felt that air was now entering you like normal. “Yes, Respira, mi linda, respira!” Camilo cheered with a soft smile.
“Are you okay now, mija?” Your mom asked you. You sat up and breathed in and out. “Ye- Yeah” You responded. Camilo embraced you in a bone crushing hug making you fall over, him falling on top of you.
“I thought i was going to loose el amor de mi vida!” He exclaimed cheerfully. “You’re never loosing me” You whisper to him. He grinned and let go of you, pulling you up.
Your parents hugged you in relief. Running footsteps could be heard from afar. “How is she?!” Pepa came running to you in worry. “All good” You smiled at the tall girl.
She pulled you into another hug, her hand resting on your cheek. “I was worried!” She yelled angrily. You laughed and hugged her back.
“I’m okay now”

i’ve been reading your prompts and i think they’re absolutely amazing. i especially love your actual baby brother bruno au, and was wondering if you could do another one with julieta and pepa bonding with/being protective over bruno? (if you’re still accepting prompts, that is). i love your writing!
Madrigal triplets (or in this case, siblings) supremacy 👏👏
(And aro-ace Bruno!)
Tumblr media
The front door of Casita slammed open and Julieta flinched in shock to hear her little brother shout, "IF YOU WANT ME TO GO, YOU'LL HAVE TO DRAG ME!"
And Alma, even louder: "DON'T YOU DARE RAISE YOUR VOICE AT ME, YOUNG MAN!"
"THEN STOP TRYING TO SET ME UP AND LEAVE ME ALONE! I DON'T WANT TO GET MARRIED, END OF DISCUSSION!"
Then his bedroom door slammed and Julieta and Pepa were left gaping at each other in silence across the kitchen table, their cups of coffee immediately forgotten.
Their mamá was at it again. Trying to play match-maker, not understanding that Bruno simply wasn't interested. Alma thought it was his anxiety and shyness holding him back; she thought his depression was warping his view of himself. Julieta could understand that logic; after all, that was what she'd wondered too at first, until she heard Bruno out.
Romance, relationships, marriage and everything that came with it, were of no interest to him. For years, the mere mention of sex made him wrinkle his nose in disgust. Once, when he was sixteen, a girl tried to kiss him by the river and he ran straight to Julieta's stall and he avoided that particular classmate of his for a week.
Their little brother was five years younger than them. Not the biggest of age gaps, but Alma had always drilled it into them that they were The Big Sisters. It was their job to keep Bruno safe.
Even from Mamá if they must.
Julieta still remembered the night they got their Miracle; she remembered holding her newborn brother and crying for her Papá, sitting outside the newly formed Casita with Pepa, as a suspicious and frightened Alma went to investigate the living house. For a while, Julieta had been convinced that Alma would never come out; the house would eat her up, and Julieta would have to look after her sister and brother all by herself.
She remembered vowing again and again to protect her baby brother, a silent promise to herself and to their papá.
So Julieta stood now, Pepa right behind her, and went to Bruno's room.
She knocked, but didn't wait for a response before opening the door. The knocking was more of a formality anyway; unless he was in the ante-chamber or main room, he'd never hear her.
There seemed to be more sand than last time. Or maybe she was imagining it. The stairs to the vision cave seemed bigger.
She hoped she was imagining that.
"Brunito?" Julieta made for the second, smaller staircase, leading to his bedroom. "Bruno, it's just us."
Bruno was sitting on the edge of his bed, glaring at the wall. At age twenty-five, he was the spitting image of Pedro. His nails dug into his blanket and he looked like he was about to scream or cry.
Pepa pushed past Julieta, practically running to the bed and throwing herself down gracelessly, flinging an arm around Bruno's shoulders.
"Y'know," she said with a big, dramatic sigh. "I always thought Mamá needed a hobby. Bet this is all because she's bored."
Bruno's lips twitched, an almost-smile.
Julieta sat on his other side, more gentle than her twin sister. Ever since Isabela and Pepa had been born two years ago, Alma had tried harder to convince Bruno to start a family of his own. "You're so good with the ninos," she said, in a rare soft voice. "Look at the kind of papá you could be, amor."
Maybe Bruno would have been a good father, but being a Tio suited him much more.
"Even if I wanted to," Bruno said in that flat, dark tone that Julieta hated. "Even if Mamá was right and I was just being too shy...It wouldn't work. She's blind to it, but who'd want Bad Luck Bruno?" He snorted, seemingly unaware of how his sisters flinched. "Stupid rumours are finally coming in handy, hermanas."
Julieta was his big sister. The eldest. She knew exactly how to snap him out of it.
"It's their loss," she said. Starting to grin, she leaned against him, wrapping her arms around both of her siblings. "Because mi hermanito has such a big heart!"
"Oh no," Bruno muttered as Pepa started to giggle.
"And is so creative!"
"Julieta, stop," Bruno groaned. He tried to push away and stand up, but Pepa helped pin him into the group hug, laughing more than ever.
"So funny and sweet, and look at those beautiful green eyes!"
"Dios mio, Julieta, stop it! We're too old for this!" But Bruno was finally snickering as he tried in vain to push her away.
"Never!" Julieta cupped his face in her hands, kissing both his cheeks and his forehead in rapid succession, finally giving into the urge to giggle herself. She continued as Bruno finally broke into true laughter and she cooed all the while; "Hermano bébé, mi corazón, pequeño! Te amo, mi hermanito!"
"Julieta!" The last of the tension left his narrow shoulders as he laughed against her shoulder. "You're impossible."
"Ay, we're all impossible if you believe Mamá," Pepa said with a wave of her hand. She was grinning broadly, a rainbow above her head. "And our teachers."
"Tch, do you have any idea how many of them expected me to be trouble because of you?" Bruno asked, slapping their sister's arm.
"You were trouble."
"Lies and slander. I never got caught, hermana mayor."
"You don't still think he's the one who stuck chalk in our teacher's erasers, do you?" Julieta sighed.
"He did!" Pepa protested. "How do you still not believe me!?"
"Because it's ridiculous!"
"You know he's a little shit, you just fall for those puppy-eyes every time-"
"If you're gonna fight, take it outside," Bruno said. "I don't want blood on my bed again."
"That was one time!"
"One time too many, Pepi!"
Julieta remembered that particular fight. Pepa had shoved her and Julieta had smacked her face off Bruno's headboard, earning herself a bloody nose. Bruno had only been ten and he'd started screaming at the sight.
Sighing fondly, Julieta pushed Bruno's hair off his face, trying in vain to keep it out of his eyes; it immediately curled back into place.
"You're perfect the way you are," she said gently. "I hope you know that."
Bruno smiled at her, leaning against her shoulder again. "Gracias, Juli," he said.
It wasn't quite an agreement, but she'd take it.

Part 2 of “Mirabel’s Incident”
Maria had moved quicker than she ever imagined she would in her life, leaving her breakable husband behind to work on his own merit, while his helpless daughter retreated to the one place she felt safe in.
Of course her motherly instinct kicked in, what else was she to do? If she didn’t understand what had happened, she had to find out somehow.
“Mira? Can I come in, per favore?” She knocked on the door that hadn’t been closed completely.
She watched with aching, little Mirabel curled up in her bed with her back towards her. There was no response, but Maria didn’t think she needed permission to provide comfort. She moved towards the bed and sat down on the edge, clasping her hands together and then she rested a hand against the small of her back.
“Mira can you tell me what happened? Mama doesn’t want you upset.”
Mirabel hiccuped as her tears fell, so Maria allowed her the time to calm down a little before asking again.
“What’s happened, Mira?”
Mirabel finally turned her head up to lock eyes with her, wiping her tears as she sat up and curled up at her mother’s side.
“P–Papá yelled at me…”
Maria carded her hand through her curls, feeling her relax more. Maria wasn’t surprised at this, but he had a reason for his actions.
“And why did he yell at you? You’re covered in dirt and your glasses broke.”
Mirabel tensed up again and Maria pulled her closer.
“I was trying to find my gift… to see if I could fly…”
Mirabel didn’t have to explain much more as she put the pieces together—The hay cart on the side of the house… the pattering of feet she thought were rats in the attic… and Bruno standing with her at the front porch, distraught and angry, shaken up.
“Mirabel, you know better than that! That was very dangerous and your Papá knew it! You could have gotten hurt like that, what were you thinking?”
She tried not to sound angry or forceful like she knew Bruno had been, considering his temper and loss of control in certain situations. Unfortunately Mirabel had taken his act of concern the wrong way. She sighed when Mirabel buried her face in the clothing at her side, bunching her fists up.
“Your Papá was very scared, that’s all. He wasn’t trying to make you upset, he just has a temper on him. You frightened him very badly, just don’t do anything reckless again, okay?”
Amidst the tension that might have been between them, it was easily severed by her caring nature. She knew she’d have to bring this situation up to him later.
That night, it was still on her mind as she was getting ready for bed. She kept her light burning on her nightstand so she could see when Bruno would join her.
As she climbed into bed, Bruno softly came in, giving a deep sigh, but otherwise staying quiet and looking like he was intentionally avoiding her gaze. She waited the entire length of him preparing for bed before finally breaking the silence the tension held between them.
He crawled under the blankets beside her, sitting up with her, still avoiding her direct gaze.
“Bruno, amor, what happened today with Mirabel?” She acted like she didn’t know at all, but she wanted his perspective. Surprisingly he replied fairly quickly despite the underlying tone of his hesitant voice.
“I was loading the cart with alfalfa when I saw her on the roof. I rushed to her, but not in time and she jumped… Thankfully I caught her, but what if I hadn’t?”
She watched what looked to be a chill rushing through him as he trembled. She took his hand and leaned on his shoulder.
“Don’t dwell on that. She’s okay and that’s what matters right? You just scared her. You didn’t mean to yell at her did you? You didn’t talk with her about it either…”
Bruno took a deep breath and tried to relax. He never realized in his panic he’d come across as being harsh.
“I was just overwhelmed with it all. Mirabel looking for a gift was just not what I wanted for her future. I’m glad she didn’t get one. It was best. No one should be burdened with carrying such a weight like I have.”
He returned the squeeze to her hand, kissing the back of it gently.
“You should talk to her though, she didn’t understand your feeling. Just give her an ease of mind, okay?”
She looked up at him and sat up again. She could see the train moving behind his eyes as he stared off into space.
“Maria, I don’t even know if I understand my own feelings. You’re better at this than I am.”
She giggles and lightly bumps his shoulder.
“I know, but take a step back and just think. Just think and really dig deep within yourself. If I can see who’s really in there, then you’ll find it, I know. You’ll find all the answers you need. Mirabel needs you just as much. She really loves you and so do I.”
“I love you too.”
Maria leans into him for a tender kiss and he gently returns it before she leans over to turn off the flame in the lamp.

Note
I imagine green Isabell is very protective of Mirabel and her father. Say bad things about her all you want she doesn't care. Talk shit about Bruno or Mirabel then you get hit with cactus.
Yup, green Isa definitely is!
Saying Mira is useless and a burden to the family? Here, have a cactus on your ass!
Blaming Bruno for seeing "ruining" a stupid wedding or a negative future he can't control? Have a tree in the middle of your room and through your roof!
Green Isabela can't stand her Papá and prima being treated like crap, and she'd let everyone know!

Bruno Madrigal… A 35 year old man, the only son of Alma Madrigal and the youngest triplet of the Madrigals… Decided to walk in the middle of the night, on the streets of Encanto… What’s the worst that could happen?
But then he heard faint crying. He tried to ignore it, knowing that there are two babies in his home… But this was different… It was close… and he could hear it clearer…
His eyes widen knowing that it wasn’t his niece and nephew that he is hearing. He followed the sound and found a box outside of a local bakery his sister. He opened the box to find a baby inside, crying, “Dios mio! Who left you alone?” Bruno said as he picks up the baby and it instantly stops and smiles at him. He got worried given the baby’s condition, he figured that the baby was left there a while back. He then carries the baby back to Casita to see if his family would do anything.

Bruno enters Casita, carrying a baby girl. Agustin was the first one to see Bruno and was worried, “Dios mio! Bruno… Who’s baby is this?” Agustin said as Pepa got down from the nursery, after making her son, Camilo, fall asleep. Pepa saw her brother with a baby, “Bruno? Who’s baby is this—?” Pepa asked as Bruno opens his mouth, “She’s left alone in a box near the bakery. I had to take her in…” Bruno said as the baby’s eyes flutter. Alma was just in time to walk in on what was going on, “Mamá...” Pepa said as Alma approaches her son, “Where did you find her?” Alma asked as Bruno explained how he stumbled upon the precious baby.
“I see... Let’s take her in, and give her a lovely home.” Alma said to Bruno as he carried the baby to the nursery where Julieta is in.

Several years later, that baby turned into a beautiful girl that Bruno named Y/N…
Now at 4 years old and is a few months younger than Camilo and Mirabel, she has become a much more sister than a cousin to them.
“Can’t catch me!!” Y/N said as she rans along the tiles as Camilo and Mirabel following her. The three children are currently playing tag and Mirabel was it… Until she touches Camilo, “Hah! Camilo’s it!” Mirabel said as she rans away from Camilo, who is on his way to tag you, “I’m gonna get ya’!” Camilo playfully said as Y/N entered the kitchen where Bruno and Julieta are in.
The two saw the children playing from the counter, “Niños, no playing here in the kitchen.” Julieta said as Y/N giggled to run towards her adoptive father, “Papá, hide me!” She said jumping up to Bruno’s arms and hide in his ruana. Camilo saw this and pouted, “Hey! No fair, Y/N!” Camilo said playfully as Y/N stick out a tongue.
“Alright, mija… It’s time for you to eat something…” Bruno said as he puts you down to a chair and gave Y/N an arepa, “Can I eat too, tia?” Camilo asked as Julieta nodded and gave him an arepa. Camilo sat down to a chair next to Y/N and took a bite of it before Isabela came into the door, “Mami! Luisa, she accidentally dropped a boulder on her toe. She made it out but…” Isabela said as Dolores carries an 8 year old Luisa to the kitchen, “Ay! Dios mio! I told you to be careful! Wait here.” Julieta said examining Luisa’s toe. It was a little swollen, “Sorry Mamá, I wasn’t looking where I was going to land it…” Luisa said as Julieta find some extra arepas for her 2nd daughter.
Bruno lifted the child on his lap to cheer her up. But then Y/N went down from her seat and to Luisa. “Luisa… Can I see it?” She asked as Luisa nodded. Luisa let Y/N see the toe as Y/N wrapped her long hair around it. Bruno was confused but then remembered the vision he had this morning.
That vision was about his daughter having a healing gift before she gets her door. Her hair glows when she sings and would heal.
He didn’t believed the vision and he just thought it was another bad vision. But it was going to happen right before his eyes. Little Y/N closed her eyes as she now sings…
“Flower, gleam and glow…” She sang as her roots started to glow. Camilo saw this and was mesmerized… So mesmerized that he called his tia to look.
“Let your powers shine…” Y/N continues as the glow now passes by the length of her roots to her forehead level. Julieta and Bruno was mesmerized by the glow. Even Isabela, Luisa and Dolores.
“Make the clock reverse, Bring back what once was mine…” Y/N sang as the glow quickly goes to her ends. Camilo got down from his chair to see carefully. All eyes followed the glow as it engulfed to Luisa’s bruised toe.
“Heal what has been hurt… Change the fates' design…” She sang as the glow from her hair grew brighter.
“Save what has been lost… Bring back what once was mine, What once was mine…” Y/N finishes asthe glow left her hair. Luisa quickly took off the strand of Y/N’s hair out of her toe to see that it was now healed.
Gasps filled the air as all of those who witnessed it all look at the perpetrator… The adorable Y/N. “All better!” Y/N said as as Bruno gently let Luisa off his lap and crouch down to his adoptive daughter, “Mija… Where did that come from?” Bruno asked Y/N as she gave a small smile…
“I sang at the nursery with Mirabel and it glowed… I tried it with my red line here on my finger and it disappeared…” Y/N said as she pointed to a previous cut on her finger that was healed.
Bruno looked at his sister, whom nodded, “Y/N, let’s not sing too much in front of Abuela… Okay?” Bruno said carrying the girl and he rocked back and forth. Y/N nodded with a smile before yawning. “Tio? Is she going to be okay? I mean… With Abuela.” Dolores asked as Bruno carries the little girl up to the nursery with Dolores following. “I don’t know, sobrina… But let’s keep an eye on her for a bit and don’t tell your Abuela know about this.” Bruno whispered to Dolores as she nodded. Bruno gently placed his daughter on her bed and kissed her forehead then covered her with blankets.
His sisters, Pepa and Julieta, are in the kitchen with his brothers-in-law, Agustin and Felix. “I told Pepa everything…” Julieta said as Bruno nodded, “Y/N is asleep in the nursery…” Bruno said reassuring to his sisters about the little girl. “I still can’t believe that she has a gift before she’s five.” Pepa said sitting down next to Felix, who is trying to calm her down. The sky slowly turns light gray then back to blue, “Are you sure that it matches with the vision earlier morning?” Agustin asked Bruno as he nodded, “It was clear that Y/N is no ordinary child… But how do we tell mamá about this discovery?” Bruno said, seeking advice to the two couples.
“We don’t…” Julieta said, slowly angering her sister, “Juli, have you lost your mind?!” Pepa said standing up and almost shouting. But she knew that Dolores is eavesdropping on the conversation, so she didn’t. A cloud almost forming on Pepa’s head but Felix swiped it off, “What would mamá do to Y/N if she found out? She could get banned from setting foot here in Encanto!” Julieta argued making Pepa paused for a moment, “We all know that mamá will do something to protect Encanto… I think she will see Y/N as a burden or something dangerous.” Julieta said as Pepa sat down. “We can’t let mamá do that…” Felix said, agreeing to Julieta’s suggestion. Agustin turned to Bruno, who had his head lowered down on the entire conversation.
“Let Y/N stay in my room for a bit.” Bruno suggested as Julieta and Pepa looked at each other before their brother, “And what help will that do?” Pepa asked as Bruno stood up, “I’ll take care of this problem on my own.” Bruno said before storming off to his room. The two couples just sighed before going back to bed.

Months later, it is now time for Mirabel’s gift ceremony…
Y/N followed Bruno’s advice on not singing infront of Abuela. But then… The incident happened…
Mirabel’s door disappeared.
Bruno was dragged off by his mamá to ask what will be Mirabel’s future be. So he went to his room where Y/N stood and joined him on the vision.
Y/N were the only one witnessing this… “Is Mira’s future… Undecided?” Y/N asked as Bruno’s eyes slowly fell to hers.
The eyes of his daughter made him realize that Mirabel’s life might be in danger if he told his mamá about this, “I’m not sure mija… But I think Mira is not going to live a normal life…” Bruno said as Y/N fidget her fingers, “Then… What if we don’t tell Abuela and leave?” Y/N suggested.
And with a smile… Bruno nodded..
He broke the green vision, carried his daughter then went out of his room. But before leaving, he look at the door one last time then went inside of the walls.
