Vesper DeVir - Dark Elf Paladin - Oath of Redemption - Chaotic Good
Art by the wonderful n8dl3!
Vesper here is one of the focal NPCs of a game I've been running for a few months! My group talked about being followers of a "main character" NPC they have to support & protect, and Vesper came about as a result. More under the cut!
Knight Initiate Vesper DeVir is a knight-in-training of the Order of the Rose, a knightly order in the cosmopolitan city of Revelmoore. She is a Szarkai; an albino drow whose births are heralded as blessings in traditional dark elven society.
Once an ordained priestess of the malevolent spider goddess of the drow, Lolth, Vesper fled her people and fought for her own survival as a member of the crime syndicate known as the Black Network.
However, ties were severed after her chapter of the network fell apart, and she resorted to living as a hermit in the vast dungeon known as the Undermountain. She would eventually run into a pair of adventurers named Contrast and Makoto, and by traveling with them she came to terms with her past and awakened to a new faith in the goddess Desna.
Now a chosen of Desna and a knight in training, Vesper hopes to save her people from Lolth's oppression one soul at a time. Even as she is hounded by the eternally enraged revenant form of her former lover, Urstul Floxin, she maintains a calm and positive demeanor that carries her through her difficult trials; while still maintaining a cynical wit.

Another new child drop from my side: Hanariel Schilftanz... IF that is her real name????
They're a changeling and go by a ton of names and usually pick out a shape that fits the occasion and they are genderfluid. They are also an assassin and usually like to collect the shapes of those that they kill. But Hanariel is such a sweetheart! It's the shape that she is currently working with in the small campaign which we have just started playing. The other players already know that Hanariel is a changeling but they don't really know her story and relationship to her shapes and such just yet and I am excited to have them find out!

Hello! I've read all your stories about Kar'niss and liked them much. I've also dug recently into drider's lore and learned that driders can cast spells, but didn't understand whether all driders are able to do this, or not. How do you think, can Kar'niss cast any spell or not? And what would happen if he met other drider? Thank you in advance :)
Hiya! I'm glad you've enjoyed the writing.
According to the lore I've found, all driders can innately cast certain spells.
All driders could inherently cast clairaudience /clairvoyance, dancing lights, darkness, detect good, detect law, detect magic, dispel magic, faerie fire, levitate, and suggestion once per day. Dhairn once noted that these abilities were essentially the same as those owned by powerful blessed drow and used this fact to dupe driders into supporting his cause by calling them blessed creatures of Lolth by pointing this out.
Out of that list, the idea of any drider using levitate is a new fear I didn't know I had. Enjoy that bit of nightmare fuel, you're welcome.
Drider also carry over any spells and abilities they had pre-transformation. So if a drow was a wizard, they'd maintain their wizard spells once changed. While I don't know Kar'niss' full ability list, everyone who has fought him knows his default go-to spell; Sanctuary.
This spell has intrigued me a bit. Even though the information claims that drider can cast like clerics, wizards and sorcerers, it specifically goes into the cleric domains driders can cast from. I've checked all four; Chaos, Destruction, Evil and Trickery and none of them list Sanctuary as a spell drider can choose from.
This leaves one option, Paladin. I had an ask sometime ago where someone spoke of their ideal class for Kar'niss being Paladin. The more I thought about it the more I was like "Yeah, actually." There are other classes that can use the Sanctuary spell but they aren't included in BG3 as options, so I'll assume they don't exist in this realm. But it gets even weirder! The two oaths that can cast this spell specifically are oath of devotion and oath of redemption. In BG3 oath of redemption isn't available as a subclass but there is a fair amount of comparisons to be made. Truth is, either of them have cross-over characteristics that fall in line with Kar'niss' devout way of life. It's far too much information to pack into one post but I'll leave the links here to read over and compare at your leisure.
Paladin - Oath of Devotion
Paladin - Oath of Redemption
As for your second question, driders are known to be solitary creatures. However, they have also been reported to pair and live with a few driders and a collection of giant spiders. So Kar'niss could reasonably get along with other drider if the circumstances are right. If they are still Lolth-sworn he's more likely to be aggressive toward them and may even seek to destroy them. I think he might like having other drider around if only so he doesn't feel like the odd spider out, or just to have someone else to relate to. Thing is, I think his focus on the Absolute is so strong he likely cares for little else. Only Her approval matters, only Her attention matters, everyone else is a side character in his heroes journey.
Thanks for the ask!

Batman characters dnd Subclasses brought to u by an expert with a double fixation
Part 1/?
Batman: Oath of redemption paladin.
Like?? Are u kidding I don’t even need to explain this one character wise.
Skill wise Oath of redemption paladins are some of the best at overall battlefield control and are strong defenders. Their feats play very well into Batman’s combat strategy and mythos. The ability to step in from a seemingly impossible distance to take damage in place of somebody else?? Their ability to do damage to enemies simply by believing in and not harming them?? Their mental aura effects, reflavored as fear?? Stfu
Nightwing: Way of the Acrobat Monk
Another big duh. Obviously this subclasses oomf comes from their specialities in different aspects of acrobatic training, contortionism, perfect balance, help with difficult terrain, charisma performance boosts etc. The ability for its costume to grant advantage to yourself; the (purposeful!) distracting power of dick Graysons uniforms over the years. Obviously his tragic backstory.
More interestingly though is the perfect overlap btw monk class strengths and nightwings fighting style. The ability to move extreme distances very quickly, the way gravity stops affecting you entirely at certain skill levels, great leap feat, ability to land multiple hits every round, proficiency in ranged weapons (escrima). Chefs kiss

Not me deciding to make Raz a multiclass Sorcerer/Paladin after going through my big ol’ stack of DnD books and finding the Oath of Redemption. I’m not sure how it caught my attention because tbh paladins never really interested me much but the combo just fits him perfectly! Just ugh, I’ve never been so pleased with the way a character was turning out than my Dragonborn boi is.
It also gave me an excuse to change up his outfit a little more, so now he’s got some slutty cleavage to match his boyfriend.

So, I’m a huge nerd (if you took one look at my page at any point and time you’d probably be able to figure that out)
BUT I also have ADHD! (Which you may be able to figure out as well)
so what do you get when you mash those two things together?
You get mashing your nerdy hyper fixations together into one
How is this relevant to what I’ve been posting recently? Well…
Vash the Stampede + DnD

His name is Valentinez the Typhoon, OR! The Humanoid Stampede. Super cool name amiright?
I’m playing him in a friends campaign as an Aasimar Oath of Redemption Paladin. He’s done many chaotic things, including adopting his dragon daughter and starting the bromance to end all bromances. He’s great
that’s all I wanted to say, I just wanted to show him off

I’m looking to play a redemption paladin and would love to hear your thoughts on the Oath compared to the others? It seems to be a really common one but I don’t see much discussion on it
Like the Oath of Devotion, the Oath of Redemption is a virtue driven oath with clear image of how it achieves its vision, and unlike Ancients or Vengeance, cuts away ambiguity and has a very clear code of conduct and ethic for its paladin to follow.
Peace. Violence is a weapon of last resort. Diplomacy and understanding are the paths to long-lasting peace.
Innocence. All people begin life in an innocent state, and it is their environment or the influence of dark forces that drives them to evil. By setting the proper example, and working to heal the wounds of a deeply flawed world, you can set anyone on a righteous path.
Patience. Change takes time. Those who have walked the path of the wicked must be given reminders to keep them honest and true. Once you have planted the seed of righteousness in a creature, you must work day after day to allow it to survive and then flourish.
Wisdom. Your heart and mind must stay clear, for eventually you will be forced to admit defeat. While every creature can be redeemed, some are so far along the path of evil that you have no choice but to end their lives for the greater good. Any such action must be carefully weighed and the consequences fully understood, but once you have made the decision, follow through with it knowing your path is just.
Even if you subtracted all the further details on how this oath is meant to be lived, the virtues it honors would tell you what you need to know. Peace, Innocence, Patience, and Wisdom. Put that all together, it's hard to go too off the reservation on what the oath expects of you.
Thus, you can understand why I have a lot of respect for redeemers and more often than not I think if a Redeemer gets the support they need, they'll lead the way to the best of all possible worlds. I only hedge closer to Devotion because that oath recognizes an immediacy for action that Redemption might find detrimental to taking the time to determine the optimal path.
