The steadfast, gentle and tireless Ox of course, came in second place, for the river was no obstacle to it.
Even allowing the Rat who could not swim, to accompany it on it's back!

It didn't start with radish foxes, the first offhandedly mentioned animal I was obsessed with was only mentioned as a distraction
And boy did it distract me.
I heard the words "jawbreaker oxen" and immediately started foaming at the mouth with the urge to bring it to life.
The solid green and red ones are the wild ancestors.
I sketched out a lot more horn and ear and other cow attribute combinations but only coloured the ones specifically for my friends here
I ended up making so much lore for them and even a whole farmers couple and story for those and it's taking all of my might to not ramble endlessly here.
(I even have a few drawings of different injuries on jawbreaker cows which i will include in a reblog so you don't have to see scarred animal sketches if you don't want to)
If someone will even hint at wanting to hear more i will write an essay, this is a threat! (<- essay has been written, it's in the notes)

Krenko’s Guide to Creature Types: Ox
Art by Andrew Robinson
What is an Ox (flavorfully)?
You don’t know an Ox’s flavor? What are you, a vegetarian?
Though Ox technically means a castrated bull, in Magic it’s just the catch-all term for cattle, including cows and yaks, but for some inexplicable reason not aurochs. Notably, Minotaurs are their own type, not Oxen.
What is an Ox (mechanically)?
Oxen are mid-sized creatures in red, green, or white. More than half have a combined power and toughness of 6, though this does range from 5/1 to 0/6. No single mechanic appears on more than two Oxen and there’s otherwise no unifying feature. One Ox token is a 4/4 Green creature while the other is a 2/4 White creature.
Can I make an Ox deck?
With Animal Sanctuary being the only Ox support card and the Oxen on the whole not being particularly powerful, an Ox deck simply isn’t reasonable. There are just enough decent Oxen that you could try making a 60 card deck that just involved attacking with them, but it wouldn’t be very good.
Is Ox a good creature type?
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Oxen, Goats, and Sheep need to share a creature type. There simply aren’t enough of each to warrant its own type, and they serve much the same purposes. Taxonomically, Antelope should be in that type, too, and it could reasonably be expanded to all ungulates other than perhaps whales, but Oxen, Goats, and Sheep are the big three that are not only closely related but work well together thematically. Ox isn’t doing anything relevant, which is honestly a shame because cattle are one of the most common animals for humans to encounter. They’re part of our daily lives, and yet somehow the only cow the game lets me eat is actually a human.
Also, it’s straight up ridiculous that Aurochs aren’t Oxen, because the “ochs” in Aurochs means “Ox.”
