Made myself this quick little Twitter banner in class today.
I’ve been putting off my other concept for my Trojan war inspired skyphos (I can’t decide how to illustrate the acheans ships leaving) but I still like doing these black/red figure pottery designs!
This one is primarily inspired by Percy Jackson I’m not gonna lie. The central design is my logo that I just coloured to fit the theme. Between now and middle school I’ve kinda cycled through what Greek god I would, in theory, be the demigod of. Middle school me was way more edgy than current me so I was always claiming to be a Hades kid (he’s also one of my favourite gods). I also love Artemis and have also pretty consistently stayed strong in my claim as a hunter 🤧. That’s why those two are first.
It wasn’t until last year that I kinda realised that I’d probably be more like an artsy Apollo kid being an art major and all. I have a friend that’s also into Percy Jackson who mentioned Athena as well b/c I’ve been getting into sculpture and such. I just really like my little owl design and it made for a nice, even design 😌

Jellyfish
Jellyfish and sea jellies are the informal common names given to the medusa-phase of certain gelatinous members of the subphylum Medusozoa, a major part of the phylum Cnidaria. Jellyfish are mainly free-swimming marine animals with umbrella-shaped bells and trailing tentacles, although a few are not mobile, being anchored to the seabed by stalks. The bell can pulsate to provide propulsion and highly efficient locomotion. The tentacles are armed with stinging cells and may be used to capture prey and defend against predators. Jellyfish have a complex life cycle; the medusa is normally the sexual phase, the planula larva can disperse widely and is followed by a sedentary polyp phase.
A skyphos (Greek: σκύφος; plural skyphoi) is a two-handled deep wine-cup on a low flanged base or none. The handles may be horizontal ear-shaped thumbholds that project from the rim (in both Corinthian and Athenian shapes), or they may be loop handles at the rim or that stand away from the lower part of the body. Skyphoi of the type called glaux (owl) have one horizontal and one vertical thumbhold handle.
The word skyphos has been adopted for the purposes of biological classification with regard to jellyfish, which are included in the class Scyphozoa (literally cup-shaped animal), and Sarcoscypha, the scarlet cup fungus.
