i love all the similarities between this comic and the batman. the author, mattson tomlin, cowrote for the batman, and you can really see the influences come through, not just through the art but the storytelling as well. some smaller scenes such as a robbery straight off the bat similar to the film, but especially parallels between riddler and the minor role of ratcatcher (though those comparisons really come to life in dano's riddler: year one) make this a great comic to step into after watching the film. not to mention bruce looks strikingly like pattinson here, and the eye makeup was clearly inspired by the film.
Will you ever do a version of Calendar man or Ratcatcher?
I really tried but this mess is all I’ve got
I likely won’t make a full design for him but this was fun to try. I love how campy his original design is and his Long Halloween design is so cunty so I tried to combine that but there’s not a lot to base anything off of since calendars are pretty simple so I got very stuck
On the other hand I will never be designing a rat catcher design because he’s already perfect
Since Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is out I'm now thinking about my own Suicide Squad. I can't remember if I ever talked about them here.
It's made up of Killer Moth, Firefly, Anarky, Ratcatcher, and an OC of mine. If talked about her before, Lexi. The Riddler henchman. I just wanted a group made up of my favorite "lower-tier" villains.
Killer Moth: Drury was assigned as leader of the group. He's the biggest and physically stronger than the rest. He's also smarter than he lets on, using this as an advantage against others who underestimate him. Waller used him as a lab rat before assigning the team, using a formula similar to Dr. Langstrom's Man-Bat serum. Resulting in a giant moth man soldier. Who's kinda adorable for a giant fluffy moth until he starts tearing people apart and drinking their blood. BUT he's a perfect pillow for the rest of the squad.
Firefly: Garfield needed no convincing to join the Squad. Not that he really had a choice. Once he heard he'd get to burn stuff and blow shit up he was all in. Plus, his buddy Drury was gonna be there so it's a win-win!
Anarky: This kid is smart. Waller saw how good they could be as an asset and took advantage of them. Because we all know Waller isn't opposed to using kids to do her dirty work. Lonnie is an angry kid. Justifiably so. They lash out at their teammates and usually don't listen to anyone and especially not Drury. But as much as they say they're not going to listen to Waller they're still a scared kid afraid of dying. So, they aren't going to tell the person who's got the trigger to the bomb in their neck "no". After a while they start to break down their walls and this kid is just seeking comfort. Eventually, Drury becomes a father figure to them.
Ratcatcher: Otis is PISSED. He did NOT fake his own death just to be found by the government and forced into working for them. At the very least he isn't stuck in a cell and Waller has assured him that his daughter is safe. He's very distant from the team at first, keeping to himself and his rats. Surprisingly the least violent of them all. Slowly starts to grow closer to the group, especially Lonnie. Honestly the entire group become Lonnie's new parents.
I've yet to figure out what they're all going to be fighting against. It can't exactly be a huge threat like Kill the Justice League because let's be honest they would not survive an alien invasion.
Been diving back into BTAS with my little brother to revist the episodes we've already seen and give those we haven't seen a watch. And after "The Underdwellers" we both got a thought that, should there have been Killer Croc and Penguin, they would show the guy who's really in charge of the place. And I immediately remembered this meme. I needed a third one and luckily Ratcatcher happened to have appeared in one of the comics related to this continuity.
[ Image: A drawing of Otis Flannegan/Ratcatcher dressed in themed knight outfit. The gauntlets have sharp clawed fingers and the helmet is shaped like a rat, with teeth on the inside lip. The jaw is open revealing Otis' face peering out, mostly obscured. He has round, barrel shaped basket attached to his back with rats in, with one sticking a head out. There is a rope coming off of the basket, hanging behind Otis like a tail. He has a tunic with an image of two hands holding a rat on it, with a sun on the upper shoulder and rats along the bottom hem. He has green and red striped puffy shorts/tights and sleeves, with matching arm and leg armor. He is wielding a small war axe head attached to a staff with a small lantern hanging off of the axe head. ]
Tom Raymond: he's marvels first sidekick and the second sidekick ever created and yet remains an absolute z-lister! imagine first having to tell normal people that no, there's another human torch from the 30's who isn't johnny storm who is an android, and then adding that yeah, AND he has a little mini-me sidekick who flew around with him during wwii
I think I have the basics of how I want my AU. Now originally I was just gonna have it completely centered around Jonathan and his journey but I wanted it to be about all of them still. So my basic idea is like, The Rogues getting better, coming to terms with issues they face. A lot of the issues are real ones a lot of people face, both in industry and at home. I want their story to be them getting healthy, laying off the crime to just fix themselves in general. Even the Batman himself :-]
The idea might change in the future idk
the ones I have so far and their subjects I want to touch on some time in my au. TW for possible triggers
Jonathan Crane - feeling comfortable and at peace with one's own sexuality and religion without guilt and constant need for God's forgiveness
Harvey Dent - Drug abuse/addiction and Oversexualization in industries. In general, having control and limits. Don't be scared to say no kind of stuff
Edward Nygma - Gender Dysphoria and being trans in general. Just being comfortable in one's own skin discrimination and hurt. + some alcoholism
Oswald Cobblepot - Alcoholism/addiction and the journey of limiting oneself.
Harley and Joker - abuse, not being afraid to say no and speak up.
Jervis Tetch - not being afraid to ask for help from doctors and people in general.
Pamela Isley - opening up and being comfortable with those around you.
Kirk Langstrom - letting go and not being so clingy
Otis Flannegan - not always having to do things you don't want to. One can't fit in if they don't want to.
I want to try and get into some of these topics without like misinterpreting them some way or like making it look bad
