#oracion from the pokemon rise of darkrai movie

Text
y'know, i was just rewatching Rise of Darkrai and had a thought.
Alamos Town is located near Jubilife according to bulbapedia, and Alice speaks as if Oracion was passed down in her family for quite a while based on one of her comments about the song if i remember right?
Combined with the name meaning 'prayer', i started thinking maybe Alice's family is descended from either one or both of the clans in the region (or maybe even the Celestica people??) and passed down a hymn to Sinnoh from back when the region was was known as Hisui. If it was a hymn to Palkia and Dialga (or even Arceus!) it could explain why it had the effects it did on not only pokemon but the town and towers.
idk i love Oracion as well as a good chunk of movie details from some of the movies and always wish more was done with some of it.

I made a post a few days ago about making some fixes to the Rise of Darkrai by just removing Mr. Nightmare Guy's ability to speak, and I've been thinking about other changes I would make to it, which I ended up compiling here in a timeline.
I would really love to either find a good fanfic rewrite of that movie or to make one myself, even if that would be effort.
Warning: it's kinda long.
General changes:
• Take away Darkrai's ability to speak at all. It makes 100% of all misunderstandings in this make sense and doesn't make him seem just dumb.
• In general, have Alice be both admirative of Alberto throughout while sympathetic to Tonio, some type of overworked town serviceman whose ingenuity the Baron leeches off of.
• If you want to have the plot be more of an intrigued, you'd probably need to redo the Palkia and Dialga fight scene at the start, either by removing it and doing the exposition in the Arceus movie (with the mystery around why they were fighting being clearly pointed out by the characters by the end of this one) or by having the relation between both events be murky at the start, which would be harder to accomplish.
• Ideally, Ash and Co. should just totally be removed from the plot. This is a secret technique that makes 90% of all Pokemon movies better. But it would require too many changes here.
As for a partial timeline:
• Have the contest going on later be an actual issue for the plot, establish Baron Alberto as a character earlier by maybe having him greet future contestants. In general, I'd want him to actually be shown to care about the image of *his* town around the world.
• Have Alice be a tour guide or something here, explaining the town's history, says that she had a grandma who lived here before her mother moved out and now she came back (admittedly you could probably do more with her lore here, but I don't have any ideas atm).
• While she explains the Towers, I'm going to be bold and have the Time Space Towers be renamed to something else and remove the prophetic dream that lead to them. Godey just wanted a musical tower to play Oracion, which is said to have soothing and healing properties, something along those lines.
• They go to the gardens, spend the time with their pokemon and leave once they see the deformed structures. Alberto comes and drops the Darkrai exposition, but tells them not to fear, as he is there to protect them and they'll find a solution. Alice mentions the townsfolk experiencing chronic nightmares for a few days. A vital point is that they now believe that Darkrai only arrived recently to torment them with nightmares.
• Here, have Alice actually feel safe because of Alberto and, somehow, make this romantic triangle actually seem worthwhile and not be resolved within the first two seconds of the characters meeting.
• Nightmare Sequence: They go to sleep and get nightmares about Palkia's oncoming attack.
• Alberto promises a solution, a part of which is just delegating to Tonio.
• They run to the gardens, accidentally enter an uncharted section devoid of other Pokemon, where Darkrai attacks them and chases after the human trio. Alberto and Gallade come to their defense and are just as successful as expected, with Gallade being put to sleep. Darkrai leaves and the Baron gloats about having scared it off to Alice, who believes him for the most part, but would rather go and heal Gallade.
• Nightmare Sequence: Gallade is woken up at the Pokemon center and gives them images of his nightmare with psychic powers. Broken up scenes of the garden getting destroyed and the Pokemon there getting eaten up by darkness. Everyone interprets this as a threat.
• After this, a bunch of trainers there specifically for the event start to leave, but Ash and Co. stay, wanting to protect the place and go through with the contest.
• While the contest does happen Dawn almost wins quite handedly because everyone else is half asleep now. They get pissed at Mr. Nightmare Guy for ruining the occasion.
• On command, Darkrai crashes the contest and tries to put specifically Ash, Brock and Dawn to sleep. After a short fight between Darkrai, Pikachu and a few others, the first is repulsed but Ash gets nightmare'd.
• Meanwhile, trying to find a solution since the morning, Tonio has been looking through the library and eventually finds Godey's diary. Because, if the tower legitimately can soothe the soul or whatever, then it should be able to solve Darkrai's hostility or at least stop the nightmares, right?
• Reading the journal, Tonio discovers that the former got the idea of Oracion soothing the soul when it healed Pokemon from Darkrai's nightmares. The apparent discrepancy here being that Tonio only knew that Darkrai had arrived in the garden recently, which is seemingly not the case.
• While he reads on the journal and about how Alicia actually met Darkrai, have more extended flashbacks, with Mr. Nightmare Guy (TM) and Small Blonde Child (TM) interacting more (this is perhaps, no, this is definitely the most necessary change). He runs back once he reads these.
• Nightmare Sequence: Here, Pikachu gets swallowed up by the ground, as does everyone around Ash, who interprets it as a threat as well.
• Ash wakes up at the Pokemon center and is livid.
• Trainers who tried to leave before the contest come back to say that they can't leave the town. Scene at the bridge happens and the Baron forms a mob.
• Ash is ready to join but they all get picked up by Tonio, who starts infodumping everything he's learned to the main cast minus Alberto.
• Darkrai had lived isolated in his corner of the garden this whole time, undetected.
• Ash deduces that the reason Darkrai was specifically targeting them was because they, unlike the Alamosites he had been tormenting before, were perhaps willing to listen and understand.
• They start to think that it was sending warnings to them and agree that they need to try and hear Darkrai out somehow before attacking it.
• While the mob is returning through the now warped and mangled town, the sky gets ripped apart and the place gets shrouded in darkness. They see Darkrai and do their best to fight it, not doing much in the process. He almost gets hit once but Ash and Co. come to stop the attack. Darkrai disappears off into the sky and Alberto gets all pissy about this, Alice getting pissed off at him in turn for not wanting to take precautions while trying to protect the town.
• Alberto wants to go after Darkrai, but gets transformed into a Lickilicky and then scared by the dream ghosts of all of the Pokemon put to sleep.
• They get all of these pokemon to the center, where Tonio is and he tries to explain what's happening. Notices that all of the dream ghosts are trying to get their attention to something (this is about as useful as I could make those, really).
• One of the ghosts, probably a Pokemon of the bunch, maybe Alice's Chimchar, leads them to this place and the center of the town. They see Darkrai circling there and he attacks them. They try and explain that they understand he isn't evil but he won't stop trying to drive them away. Baron Alberto says that he knew that they were mistaken and tries to attack, with little success once more, before Darkrai is driven into the ground by a Spacial Rend from an emerging Palkia.
• They try and fight it off to protect the injured Darkrai, but can't do much against Palkia, leading to Darkrai then saving them by blasting the Pink God Lizard (?) away.
From here on, my ideas for what happens next get really fuzzy, but things that probably should happen are:
• Tonio saves Alice and cements that couple. There was no memory of him saving her from falling off a cliff here.
• Darkrai saves Alberto specifically, with the latter not knowing how to feel about that. Maybe at least telling him to go and protect *his* town.
• An idea not my own (from the Conqueror AU by Witchysolfan on here, who has a lot of great ideas for a Lovecraftian Alamos) but way too good to ignore: to mirror the dream ghosts from the melding of dimensions, have time ghosts that start to appear as heralds of Dialga's arrival, one of which is Alicia, a distraction Alice needs to avert Darkrai from. Play the sentimental and necessary flashbacks of both of them playing in the garden.
• Darkrai does his thing where he forms the bubble of darkness to hold them both off while the cast climbs the tower, but when he gets struck by both of their attacks at once, he just tumbles to the ground but doesn't die. Instead, Alice comes over to help him, while Alamosites give their excuses and maybe heal him up with some moves.
• Here, Ash saves the day, Oracion stopping the fighting and alleviating Darkrai's pain, as well as the fear of the Alamosites. The light bird thing can be removed.
• The following day, the contest gets a rerun with viable contestants (and Darkrai making a timid appearance? Maybe not, he should probably continue to be secretive)
• Someone points out the mystery surrounding why Dialga and Palkia were fighting, as stated above.

Random question: Do you like any of the Pokemon movies?
Oh my God, the Pokemon movies!
Admittedly, I like a good portion of them but for elements of the movie rather than the whole thing.
For example, I like the soundtrack for Pokemon: 2000, the tone of Pokemon: Spell of the Unknown (especially the original Japanese version where the girl’s mother didn’t just ‘disappear’ but was fucking institutionalized, building into the sentiment that that movie was Silent Hill for Kids), the characters in Pokemon: 4Ever, the scenery in Pokemon Heroes, the ending song in Jirachi: Wishmaker, Giratina and the Sky-Warrior because Giratina is my all-time favorite legendary Pokemon, and The Jewel of Life because ARCEUS IS FUCKING PISSED
But my overall favorite Pokemon movie, despite how many hardcore Pokemon fans dislike it because ‘oh, the CGI is so obvious~’ (bitch, these are POKEMON movies; ALL the CGI is OBVIOUS), is Rise of Darkrai because it kind of does a good job in all of the categories I mentioned above but all in one movie.
And, call me a pussy, but the climax where they get the tower to play Oracion to stop Dialga and Palkia from destroying the world gets me every time. The scope combined with the actual music is just... Magnificent.

So I made Oracion from the Pokemon Darkrai movie my town theme because what better song for the town bells to play? I missed the hour by like, two minutes though so I'm just gonna mess around until 11 PM.
There's an extra A at the beginning because it sounds better than it does without it. Wish there'd been space for the little rise afterwards though.

Pokemon: The Rise of Darkrai
Take nothing at face value.
This movie did not need to go as hard as it did but I am grateful that it did.
This movie is just... Beautiful. As someone whose favorite Pokemon game is Diamond and has a lot of wonderful memories associated with the fourth gen games and anime, I adore this movie. Palkia and Dialga hadn't even been on screen for three seconds and the Sinnoh nerd in me was screaming.
Is the movie good, hell yeah it is. After the cute and cartoony antics and heartfelt charm of the previous two films, I think it is safe to say movies 8-10 are my top three so far.
The tale of Darkrai is that of your typical misunderstood hero in villain's clothing. But it's deepened by the lengths Darkrai is willing to go to protect the town, it's garden, and every citizen that is trapped in Palkia's dimension. And those lengths include DYING FOR THE TOWN THAT IS TRYING TO KILL HIM! All because one little girl was nice to him. I am a sucker for the little kid and their big monster friend trope.
I have to add as well that I love the relationship between Tonio and Alice. It's not the most original love story but it's cute to see how Alice fawns over him inspite of his airheaded tendencies.
The biggest flaw of the movie is Baron Alberto. Seriously. He sucks. That's all you need to know about him.
There's also a problem with how the movie uses Team Rocket, I can't exactly tell what they need to be there for. They're still funny as comic relief should be but it feels more like they were shoehorned in for the Darkrai witch hunt of which they take no part of by the way. Funnily enough I can say the same of Ash and his friends. This movie starts a... concerning trend that goes on for most of the movies after, of Ash and friends just kind of being there. There isn't much weight to them being involved, like in many of the previous films. (Namely movies 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8 and 9) They could have been cut out of this movie and we would have lost nothing.
Then we get to something I have been wanting to address since the second movie. I'm just going to come out and say it and hate me if you want but ORACION IS BETTER THAN LUGIA'S THEME. This is my favorite piece of music to ever come out of the movies/anime. It is so uplifting and peaceful that tears come to my eyes when it plays. The only other piece of music in the franchise to do that to me is the credits theme from Ruby and Sapphire.
So for the tenth Pokemon movie, a huge milestone in the anime's history...
8.5/10 - This is so beautiful, Dexter, play Oracion.

Pokemon Ask, take two: Caterpie, Eevie, Entie, Togetic, Meloetta, Latias (T-dogs asking. I really ought to get on tumblr if this ask thing keeps up on the group chat)
Thanks! (Haha no need no need)
Send Me a Pokemon
Caterpie: What is the firstPokemon you ever caught?
Since my first Pokemongame was Diamond, it would’ve been one of the Pokemon on the first routes. I’mpretty sure it was either a Starly or a Bidoof.
Eevee has already beenanswered!
Entei: What is your dream team?
WeavileMespritHydreigonLuxrayMiloticNinetales
I really like this team because it hasmy top favourite Pokemon in it, they’re all Pokemon I’d love to have with me inreal life, and type-wise the team is actually pretty balanced!
Togetic: What Pokemon makes you the mosthappy?
This is tricky because the Pokemonthat makes me the most happy isn’t necessarily my top favourite!
I have several but I’m going to answerwith Vivillion.
I was surprised by Vivillion in manyways. I caught a Scatterbug in Pokemon Y and I intended to evolve it intoVivillion because I thought it was pretty, and then I’d deposit it in the PC.However, when it evolved, I was very surprised by the colour of the Vivillion, since I was expecting pink and was unaware that the Pokemon had a differentcolour based on where you were in the world. So I ended up continuing to usethe Vivillion and it surprised me by being very strong and very useful andlearning very good moves! My Vivillion did so much during my playthrough ofPokemon Y, and it was my first Pokemon I ever got to full affection in PokemonAmie! It’s one of the most fun Pokemon to play with in the game and it is verycute! My Vivillion also swept through my friend’s team when we battled which isone of the funniest battles I’ve done and I torment her by reminding her of myVivillon.
Vivillion made me have an appreciationfor a Bug type that I was not expecting and I grew to love it dearly. It’scuteness, strength, and the experience of having it that I associate with thePokemon makes Vivillion a Pokemon that makes me very happy.
Meloetta: What is your favourite Pokemon songfrom the anime/movies?
We Will Be Heroes!, the opening to theBattle Dimension season and The Rise of Darkrai movie! Pokemon openings arealways so positive and inspiring and this one is no different! I really likeit!
Oh, special mention to the song thatplays during The Rise of Darkrai movie, Oracion. That song is beautiful!
Latias: What Pokemon do you wish you couldhave in real life?
I’ll go with Luxray if I had to chooseone. Luxray is powerful and cool so it’d be awesome to have with me, but itwould also be great to snuggle with!

Pokemon: The Raise of Darkrai (2008)
I’m glad Ash’s current voice was established by the time of this movie
I really appreciate how it subverts Pokemon lore. Darkrai is often portrayed as a bad guy, but in this movie, he's a hero. He's normally reclusive, but will do anything to protect the garden after Alicia saved his life and showed him kindness.
Alice and Tonio are also pretty memorable characters, with a sweet little romance. There's a lot of creativity with dreams merging with reality, and the fabric of space being distorted.
Oracion is incredibly beautiful, exactly what a song to soothe the wrath of legendary Pokemon should sound like.
The climax with climbing the disappearing tower while Darkrai prevents Roar of Time and Spacial Rend from colliding is fantastic, and although it gets undone, Darkrai's sacrifice is very emotional. He is hated and feared, but was willing to give his life for the sake of Alicia's home and granddaughter. And, it was even the start of a trilogy, which was a very well handled experiment.
Rankings:
10. Pokemon The Movie 2000
9. Pokemon Ranger and the Temple of the Sea
8. Pokemon 4Ever
7. Pokemon: Jirachi Wishmaker
6. Pokemon: The First Movie
5. Pokemon Heroes
4. Pokemon: Destiny Deoxys
3. Pokemon: Lucario & The Mystery of Mew
2. Pokemon: The Rise of Darkrai
1. Pokemon 3: Spell of the Unown

Here's a question: What's your favourite Pokemon song? To make it harder (or easier?), I'm going to divide it up into category: 1. Favourite TV or Movie Theme, 2. Favourite Area Background Music (specify the game), and 3. Favourite Song from the Soundtracks/Albums (I don't know how many there are, but there's at least two I know of).
Random Pokémon question? You know me so well, my friend.
In all seriousness, this is a really good question. Let’s see. Favorite TV or Movie theme. I know you already split it up, but I have to split it up a bit more since the music in the TV show vs the movies are just so gradually different in terms of quality. For the TV show, it would probably have to be one of the theme songs. The original theme song is iconic at this point, and will be remembered as one of the most recited songs of my childhood (and onwards), but the themes for Johto League Championship and Advanced Battle are also pretty epic.
The movies have a lot of scores. Not so much songs. There are a few good songs, but for the most part, the closest you get is a remixed version of that seasons theme song. Or those shoe horned in pop songs (thank Arceus they stopped doing that) And there are a lot of beautiful scores in the Pokémon movies. With stuff like Tears to Life or the Oracion song from Rise of Darkrai, which is absolutely beautiful. Lucario and the Mystery of Mew also has a brilliant score overall.
But my favorite, no completion, is Lugia’s Song. Lugia’s song is just one of my favorite pieces of music ever. It’s so beautiful and serene and epic, and it captures the presence Lugia had in that movie perfectly. And while Lugia would become nothing special in terms of Legendary Pokémon, I consider it a big reason why Lugia is a lot of fans favorite Legendary (including mine ^_^)
While I don’t know the games music as well as I know the animes’, I love the hell out of the battle theme. Which has appeared in pretty much every game, so it’s tough to choose a version. Whether in it’s tinny Gameboy form or played by a massive orchestra, it’s the perfect song to get you pumped up for a good battle. Also, the Lavender Town theme will be burned into my soul for all eternity.
The soundtracks…… there are a few soundtracks. With varying levels of quality. There was even a Pokémon Christmas album, which is exactly as weird as you think it is. But the 2B A Master CD stands out and has some great songs on it. Favorite? This may seem weird, but Double Trouble. Which is Team Rocket’s big song. I know that’s weird given how many iconic songs are on that CD, but I always come back to that one. The original Team Rocket voice actors had such wonderful chemistry, and pretty much defined those characters in the western world. The song was silly and melodramatic, and I freaking love it!
So, yeah. Way more then you probably wanted, but that’s what happens when you get me started on Pokémon!
