honestly i think it’s so gross how many adults i have seen on this app upset that heartstopper is a show rather mild in its sexual content. it’s a show that’s target audience is young queer people….about young queer people……played by young queer people. the show is not “anti-sex” at all, if you actually watched the show charlie and nick discuss that they WANT to do more, that they want to “go further” some day. charlie has a boat load of trauma (including trauma about having his physical boundaries ignored) however and nick is still processing his sexuality, so why are you pushing for them to be intimate?? i’ve known people who have dated for years and didn’t actually have sex until they were adults and mature enough to do so.
viewing this show as a adult woman i find it honestly disturbing that there is this fixation on the necessity of sexual content including children. because that is who these characters are. children.
the show does not bash sex (uhh the teachers very clearly banged??), it merely advises against forcing yourself to be sexual before you are ready. the queer community has always been demonized as a “hypersexual” group of people, but that is merely a label forced upon us. heartstopper is the one of the only queer pieces of media that defies this expectation, and tells queer kids everywhere that it’s ok to take your time, and that sex is not the end all be all.

the absolute lack of media literacy from people who haven’t even seen oppenheimer is making my head spin but whatever
#like - every three seconds it’s someone talking about how it’s us military prop or it doesn’t cover the atrocities well etc etc#when a) it is so definitely NOT us propoganda- it is so clearly critiquing the us military and oppenheimer himself#and b) it doesn’t cover every small detail of the impacts of the bomb bc that’s not what the film is about#it is a screenplay adapted from a biography on oppenheimer#it is about him - a biopic - and how he got to the point of making atomic weapons and ends on a note of undeniable horror#it is a movie that constantly bombards you with anxiety bc you have the burden of knowing the future#it is not in any way forgiving anything - it acknowledges the fucked up nature of the situation#hell it’s mostly a courtroom drama that shows how fucked up mccarthyism was#i’m a big history buff - so this plays a lot into it#but y’all have GOT to just stop seeinf things on a surface level and engage with media w/ a deeper mindset of just ‘thing bad’#anyway - sorry it bothers me a lot#there are genuine criticims that can be leveled at both nolan and this film and i have seen them#im not sitting here calling the end all be all of cinema - but it’s a well made movie w/ something interesting to say and evaluate#not wanting to see it is one thing - by all means - but wringing it through the mud w/ absolutely no knowledge of the actual content of -#the film itself is actively annoying#media literacy#oppenheimer#mini rant

Have you seen The Amazing Digital Circus yet?
If so, what's your opinion on it?
I LOVE TADC! It’s my favorite indie show at the moment! There’s just so much I like about it but my main ones are
1. The setting and execution being unique.
A horror-like project taking place in an late 90s/early 2000s digital game is not a new idea and same goes with characters being stuck in a purgatory however it’s how the artists reinvent those idea that makes it new. The digital Circus made its own aesthetic that makes it stand out from other projects with similar concepts and designs. When I first watched the pilot, one of many things that stuck out to me was how new the story ideas felt. I couldn’t think of any other pieces of media similar to TADC beside for surface-level comparisons. The TADC created its own aesthetic and knows what it wants to be and I like it!
2. Soundtrack.
Speaks for itself, the soundtrack for the pilot is so good especially Your New Home. That song is very catchy and emotional too. It has such a unique melody, everytime you hear the first few notes you instantly recognize it. It does a great job highlighting the dread and existentialism crisis of Pomni’s situation. I recommend to give it a listen if you haven’t.
3. The characters dynamics.
I just love how the characters interact with each other. The majority of the jokes comes from characters’ interactions and dynamics and how well everyone plays off of each other. The best example is Jax with everyone, Jax is a funny jerk who likes bullying his peers. It’s funny to see what creative ways Jax will bully the other people whether it’s being sarcastic and making quips at them, or though goofy pranks and how the characters react because of their contrast in personality. Every character beside Jax is openly stressed or worried in someway while Jax, at first seem like a chill layback dude.
4. The characters differences.
I adored the differences between each character from how they talk to their poses. After watching HH and HB, I learned to have an appreciation for character differences. It’s just refreshing to see characters allowed to be different instead of the same tired reused tropes and repeating the same type of dialogue again for every character.
5. Mystery and lore.
There is so much to explore in the pilot, it’s make you wanting more. When going in to watch the pilot, I made the mistake of thinking the series will be predictable. I didn’t see how they could make this premise work because by the end of it, Pomni will go insane but then I watched the pilot and was speechless. The pilot does a good job setting up questions for the audience to ask. If Caine lied about the exit, what are other things did he lied about? How long has the cast been stuck in the circus? Who are these people? Are they previous game developers? Who were they in their previous lives? What is the company’s motivation to create the headset? What are the abstractions in game? Are they viruses to the game program? Who were the former cast? What horrors has Kinger seen to be as paranoid and easily frighten as he is now? Do the abstractions still have a consciousness? You just want to find out more about the lore to solve the many mysteries in the show. I find it impressive Gooseworx was able to stir up the theorists because they have admitted in an ask, there are already theories floating around that are almost right about the show.
One problem I did have for the pilot were the scenes containing the Gloink Queen. The pacing of the pilot was fine until we got to her then it was slow. I feel it dragged longer than it needed too but beside that, my issues for the pilot ends.
I can’t speak for the fandom on other platforms but the tumblr one is great! Most of the time everyone is being respectful towards each other and I love seeing what creative theories, AU, fanfics, and art the fans created. The only people causing drama are the anti-shippers, and it’s just dumb. All of the cast are adults, if age gaps ships makes people uncomfortable, that’s valid but they shouldn’t make it into other people’s problems. Gooseworx themselves admitted they don’t care for romance and they don’t want fans in the fandom getting harassed over shipping.
Overall despite what issues I had for the pilot and fandom, they’re overshadowed by the positives and I can’t wait to see the full show and the fandom’s growth.

Watching people fight over and defend hh is insane. People who think it's good have utterly shit taste obviously but im mostly baffled by the other people who have come to the conclusion it sucks but also really need there to be a moral or ethical reason to justify why it sucks. It can't JUST be ugly or annoying or poorly made, it needs to be morally irredeemable.

It is very tiring trying to be like "shadowgast cute and soft, make brain go brrr" while simultaneously feeling still that, even a year and a half later, to a loud portion of the fandom, their relationship through the last ten-ish episodes of the campaign didn't "count" because there was not a (mouth-to-mouth) kiss involved, even though their interactions throughout that last arc were absolutely crucial to Caleb's storyline, and gave the impression of prioritizing each other even while focused on averting an apocalypse.
And in particular, the moments they had at the Blooming Grove were very sweet and spoke of the importance they placed on each other and the grace they were willing to extend to themselves in settling what they both still needed to settle before another step could be taken. But evidently that doesn't actually matter because it didn't result in a traditional domestic relationship (ignoring that, clearly, that isn't even really a possibility regardless of their interest, per the two-shot).
If the feeling had not persisted so insidiously among the fandom, I really would not be so persnickety about it, but it has never felt like that subsided and it is simply rearing its head in a far more noticeable way now that those folks can claim there's actually something to "celebrate" to their standards, as though a relationship cannot possibly be real unless you've watched two people stick their tongues down each other's throats.
Like, do people not realize how exclusionary (and, frankly, pretty invasive) that sounds, or do they simply not give a fuck?

why do some shadow fans act like shadow is this obscure character who never appears in anything and any mention of him is a huge surprise. hes literally one of the most well known characters in the franchise and appears so often its not surprising at all when he gets mentioned or its confirmed that hes gonna be in whatever new thing is coming out? what planet are you guys living on

I feel old bc I didn't like the amazing digital circus.
#like not to be a hater but like.#....i feel so underwhelmed#its so odd how half of the show feels like a lab grown “sure to do numbers on tumblr” by the book experience and then the other half is lik#the weirdest most well animated love letter to late 90s early 2000s computer media.#and how none of those 2 halfs manage to congeal well to me at all and creates something that feels so fanficky in its creation i cant help#but feel disinterested in literally anything it has to say because i know they werent thinking that hard about it.#like i told my friend that you could replace the setting with a haunted house or a deep sea cult and fundamentally you would have the same#plot and charactertization.#nothing felt fundamental to its premise beyond its comedy and “nonspecific glitch monster” and created something that i feel relies purely#on style with zero substance. it feels like keto diet the animation.#and like it sucks bc im struggling to figure out whether or not it was a personal taste issue or if it genuinely didnt work from a writing#level.#and like ig thats a good thing im thinking so hard about it but ngl i probably wont go back to watch any new content they make for it.#ngl from the little ive seen of murder drones its the same thing? so maybe just stylistically glitch's projects arent a thing for me.#thats entirely a possibility.

The more I think about High Guardian Spice, the more perplexed I become
#yea im still thinking about this show#i stand by my original stance that its definitely not the worst show ive ever seen#but it is one of the most generic/boring shows ive ever seen. which is subjectively worse#i swear to GOD i went into it wanting to like it. i wanted to like it so bad#but it feels like a parody. i almost feel bad trying to be critical of it because it feels so amateur#it feels like a show made by a close knit group of friends passionate about their ocs rather than a production by a full blown studio#i could write a whole novel on how bizarre of a watch this show is#not because of the content itself but just because like..... how did this happen#im someone who is very very VERY gentle on the media i watch. if it entertains me in any way then im willing to excuse the flaws#but i have seen HGS 2 times now and i just. i dont understandm i dont get it at all#i think i actually will take the plunge and attempt to make some sort of video essay about it#i cannot even begin to describe my thoughts about it here and do them justice#is it a show for kids? is it a show for adults? the show is just as confused about it as i am#sorry that this is all im talking about recently but like. i have never seen another show like this one in my LIFE#not art#the worst part is i dont even think i can call it 'wasted potential' because .... the show never introduces any unique themes or ideas#its just generic. beginning to end

The constant holier than thou 'the entire community should cater to me personally' schtick. It's been around forever, it's why this site got such a reputation for superfluous application of cancel culture, but I've noticed it seems to have risen from the dead lately.
People who think others should only write content that appeals to to their own lifestyle, people who think going into a collaborative hobby without regard for the limits or problems of their followers makes them a superior being, people who don't understand why some people might not be comfortable with all facets of a canon or even fanon, couching misogyny and biphobia in alleged support of other communities...
These are just examples I have seen more than once. Members of my community taking it for a personal attack if people write romantic/sexual dynamics or discuss their own personal lives on the dash. Those who believe that because they do not tag triggers or in any way 'cater' to the audience they expect to interact with they're somehow the ones victimized when people curate their experiences away from them. I've caught so much Hell just for saying I don't care for a major franchise and find the writing of canon stale at best and genuinely insulting at worst, and I am not the only one. People who believe all M/F is het and thus inferior, because like, why would an amazing awesome man ever want to stick his dick an inferior pussy?
I think too many people on this site have a stick up their ass about things that, and I say this with all due respect, do not matter outside of their own comfort. Unless the content is being written to actively harm, unless it is problematic content that out and out reflects the hateful or harmful beliefs of its author, unless people are genuinely at risk because the content exists, then block and move on. You should always block and move on if the content is anything less than that, and by the same card, stop acting so surprised if other people block and move on if you act like a self-righteous dickhead for forgetting this is a collaborative hobby that takes partners and their myriad views/experiences/comfort into account.
#like sure there's things i as a survivor of certain irl crimes am OUTRAGED gets romanticized in the comm.#but once i get past that knee-jerk disgust i ask myself: who is it hurting? does this cause someone else to be hurt as i was?#does it in any way serve the kind of people that hurt me?#does this content or its creator present any genuine threat?#if no i just block and move the fuck on. i've only had like three incidents over a decade here that required 'something needs to be done'#my outrage is no one else's problem. my boundaries and triggers are mine to handle. a lot of people seem to forget that and think#that they can somehow be the main character of the rpc.#and i've seen it showing up more and more in rules and i'm Tired.#queencvbra#mun answers#out of stories

It is, objectively, super funny that the Trek fandom in general is sitting around hoping that STP ignores their faves and doesn’t try and involve them. I mean, it’s many other things as well, but it’s funny that I keep being recommended random posts of random people crossing their fingers hoping that their blorbos will be ignored, never be seen on screen, and therefore saved from anything from bad characterisation to death via stupid contrived avoidable circumstance.
