Ok but imagine if Spock had been permanently blinded in Operation Annihilate
Assuming VISORs like Geordi’s weren’t around yet, Spock would likely resign from Starfleet. And blaming himself for what happened, Kirk would likely do the same.
Maybe, to make up for it, he would stay close with Spock and help him adjust to being blind while basically being the human equivalent of a seeing eye dog. Could be especially interesting if their telepathic bond was involved and Jim could instantly describe what he’s seeing to Spock through his thoughts or even mentally project images of what he’s seeing directly into Spock’s mind.
Should I develop this idea more?? Maybe write a fic or two about it?? Idk

Bro I need to vent real quick but Jim was a huge asshole to Mccoy in Operation: Annihilate! when he accidentally blinded Spock when he didn't need to take the risk to and Jim got super angry at him like BITCH it was literally YOU who pressured him to go faster and he RELUCTANTLY COMPLIED and then you BLAMED the man who was already feeling guilty enough when it was ALSO YOUR FAULT (and Spock's as well tbh lol) like bitch ass mf ik Spock is your love ig but don't act like Mccoy didn't care one bit as less as you do...
At least he apologized. ❤️🩹
