So I just spent this new year (Jan. - Feb.) sending daily uploads of panels from the prelude to HoCo. Many I created years ago when this project began.

This begins the first in a series of THREE graphic novels I'm working on. This is panel 001, when Shoo the bird (who has yet to get a name) portals into the scene.

Elegy for the Lost Genres: Fantasy, Horror, LGBTQIA+, Slice of Life Rating: 17+, mainly for strong language, body horror, disturbing imagery, and depictions of depression, suicide ideations, and more that will be elaborated in later days.

SYNOPSIS: Situated in the mountains, Galesburg is a small, historical town that doesn’t seem like much to the naked eye. To Evoluka, however, it’s filled with hopelessness and horror, as only she can see the spirits of the departed that lurk aimlessly in the dark. Death seems to surround her in every corner.

One night, something falls from the sky and into the forest behind her home. As Evo goes to investigate, she meets a strange man named Asher, who has no memories of his own aside from his name. Through that chance meeting, strange events begin to unfold throughout the town, but could they find their way through without getting dragged into the depths of the conflict between life and death?

I tried making a game, but as the years went on, the story changed, and the more the story changed, the more it didn't fit the game's form anymore. Not to mention, I do not have the brain capacity to make a game, so that ain't happening anymore.

But you know what WILL be happening? Turning it into a manga.

Elegy for the Lost will be a manga series rather than a game, as I find this medium the most comfortable after all these years. Updates will be whenever chapters are done, so there isn't really a consistent update schedule as of right now.

Sites it will be released on are tumblr, Tapas, and eventually, a hosted website of sorts.

There is no certain release date, BUT I am almost done with all of chapter 1. I will be periodically doing some art pieces before it releases and there will be announcements for that when it's done! When it's released, I will also be making a mobile links post with all relevant links!

This is my starting goal for this year and onwards, and I hope you can enjoy the journey with this story that's been integral to me for the past few years. I'm SUPER excited!!!

Now with the prologue over, I will be updating chapter 1 three times a week (Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday) until we are caught up. On the first couple of posts I will more than likely put more than 1 page a post because the first pages make me cringe and I wanna get over them <3 the writing is fine, its just the art lol.

For now, here is some concept work I made for the prologue!

Thumbnails for the 4 pages. I always thumbnail because I find it makes paneling and spacing everything out so much easier for me. But they are rarely this clear, I only make them this detailed in important scenes where I'm trying to do relevant visual storytelling, which the prologue is very much filled with!

I was originally planning on keeping these to myself but I decided to show them anyway (Hope I don't regret it later.) The first concepts for the prologue cover! The last one is actually my favorite but I decided to save it for a future, more fitting time.

So I picked the second one from the first batch and played around with it! Sad I didn't get to include a spider in the cover but it just wasnt fitting right. And I'm quite happy with the final one to be That sad about it anyway!

Color mapping! I have done concept art for areas in my stories before but never like this! I was very proud of the script of the prologue though, so I really wanted to make sure the visuals turned out just as nice. And the mood and visuals of this prologue are VERY important, the color palette needed to show how Noriel feels throughout it as clearly as possible.

The goal was for something that made the world feel distant and eerie, but also gross to the touch and dangerous. Like dissociating because everything around you scares and grosses you out. #9 fit perfectly with the first half of what I wanted, while #2 fit the second half, so I combined them to get the final one!

The lineart is different in these pages compared to the rest of the comic, they are more scratchy to fit the mood. And Noriel has a different design because this prologue takes place at a different time compared to chapter 1! So I made quick references to help Aitebit and Trailing in those areas :]

I am very proud of how the prologue turned out, both in writing and art, scenes like these ones are always my favorites to work on and I can not wait to reach other similar ones. It scratches that brain itch.

Debut or Die - Manhwa Review

01/06/24 ~ 54 chapters out.

Synopsis - After heavy drinking a man wakes and realizes he's in a body of some unknown orphan three years in the past. He has a 'status' window' that tells him he must debut in a year or he will die. he enters a idol survival show where he must utilize his skills and status to become in the final rankings via online votes (called stocks) to debut.

Review - 9.2/10

Honesly, I'm a little generous but I actually really liked this. I thought it would be more BL-like because I always saw it on my TL and For You and obviously when you see a bunch of sparkly handsome (also somewhat feminine looking) manhwa men you'd assume it was BL. From what I know it's not. It actually follows more of the real-life gaming simulation-like manhwas which is always a favorite of mine.

I really like how the characters are depicted and emphasized. Not only is the art really good, the way they depict emotions in the 'performances' are so artistic. It doesn't downplay kpop and idoling at all. Although the whole despair for survival isn't that prominent in the main character, Park Moondae, he is the realest mf in the manhwa.

Like obviously on the surface he's pretty monotonus but his internal monolouge is actually so real. I think a good balance of internalized monologue and 'showing not telling' is really important in not making a manhwa with a lot of logistics boring and this manhwa does it so well.

You get excited with the characters and literally feel the anxiety with them too. And as more and more heartwarming characters are introduced you can't help but be hooked.

If you're super bored and need something actually good to read instead of brain rot, read this. Highly recommend. Even if you're romance-exclusive I really suggest it.

I personally have seen a lot of the irl idol survival shows, like the Prod. 48/100 amongst others and this manhwa really highlights the snakiness of entertainment and the strategical makeway of good publicity. Very thought inducing if you've never processed the idea and it plays well into plot.

Read it. It's good. Hopefully it'll get better.
