MAJOR ONE PUNCH MAN MANGA CH 166 SPOILERS BEWARE!!!!!
Tumblr media
I’m actually going to kms over this panel. The fact that Murata decided to draw him with regular sclera, giving the visual impression that genos flashed back to his pre-cyborg self before he (HYPOTHETICALLY!!!!!) died bc grazing death gave him a flash of humanity? The fact that he looks so shocked but silent? The fact that his. Last. Words. Were sensei. ???????? That hurts me so much. Even in his (HYPOTHETICAL) last moments, Saitama is the most important thing on his mind. “Well yeah he’s saying that bc he wants Saitama to swoop in and save him” yeah no shit, it’s that as well as him worrying about Saitama and what he’ll do without Genos, him knowing that even tho Saitama’s late he’ll come. This moment could’ve been Genos being upset and feeling betrayed, but no. It’s him having faith in his sensei even though he knows it’s too late because whether Saitama saves him or not, he’ll always be his hero, and that those days with saitama were the happiest he’d been in a long time.

Chicken Nugget Genos by girlinstory
Chapter 168 tag with associated manga spoilers.
"You're actually alive!"
Genos frowned. "Sensei has seen me without extremities on many occasions, most notably-"
Saitama waved his right hand- his left hand full of the thing that he was trying not to think about. He was holding it in his non-dominant hand. He couldn't help thinking about that, sparing a second's glance at Garou before his eyes were drawn like magnets back to Genos. "Yeah, yeah, not because of Chicken Nugget Genos. Because of this."
He held up his left hand.
Genos frowned some more. It was obvious he didn't have to worry about getting wrinkles. "That appears to be my core."
"Yeah. I've seen it on a few occasions too. That's why I thought, for just a second, that you-"
"Sensei!"
It took him another second to realize Genos was shouting, not because the world was ending again, but because Saitama had started to cry.
"What the hell?" He swiped at his eyes with the sleeve of his suit, which seemed more or less intact, with one notable exception.
"Sensei?" Genos looked worried, which was a little ridiculous considering he was missing about forty-percent of his body. "Are you alright?"
Saitama made the "I dunno'" noise. "I'm not usually a gut-feeling kinda' guy, Genos, but I get the feeling that we just avoided the really bad timeline."
Genos wiggled closer, and Saitama suppressed the urge to laugh if only because he knew it would come out a little hysterical.
"I cannot hug you right now, but you are welcome to hug me if you wish."
"I don't know," said Saitama. "It seems a little one-sided."
Genos looked so mournful that he gave in and laughed anyway.
"I am sorry, Sensei," Genos said woefully. "The best I can do is a headbutt."
He laughed again. "I noticed. You're getting pretty strong, Genos. But I have a better idea." All of these emotions, as if out of nowhere, and Saitama had always been the kind of guy to go with the flow.
He wrapped one hand around what was left of his disciple's waist, the other still clutching that core like his own life depended on it, and pulled Genos for a kiss.
It was not one-sided.

Thanks Sai, way to foreshadow it. That Garou would in fact, OVERDO IT.

I had some scary idea about Saitama and really…. Consider it a passing thought but I really couldn’t help but think about it…
We die eventually because our bodies decay with age.
But in Saitama’s case, he’s only ever getting stronger every single day. His body would refuse to let things that would usually kill him, to just do it because he can always surpass it. I’m not too sure about how it’d work but he wouldn’t be decaying anytime soon. At least it’d take him a lot, LOT longer than the average human.
Can we assume in anyway if here’s any indication about his possibly immortality?
Cause I really hope that isn’t so and instead Sai can somehow control his growth or will himself to die when he wants or something :’)
Because the cons of immortality like…. Lonelines… Meaningless existence…. Boredom…. Could again come to bite him in the face at some point when, say, he’s lived for a couple centuries already, having finally established strong bonds with people present in his life now and finding meaning in life, but they’ve grown old and they begin to die one by one (btw, Can Genos run on fuel forever? Or his brain?) and he witnesses as they grow families and then they die too, even his own family if he finds someone. Him remaining the only constant as everything else changes around him, for better or worse, he might be forced to rethink how he’s gonna define his life experience if there’s still a way to explain it in a manner similar to everyone else. Or if everything’s gonna start feeling pointless again. We know Saitama doesn’t do well with things like boredom and existential crisis…. Nor is he one of those who’d be thrilled at the idea of existing forever to satisfy their own sense of superiority. Saitama ultimately wants to be human.
Imagine him at some point in the future, having lived for a couple centuries already… grown thousands or millions of times stronger than today, lonely, with a slipping sense of sanity. That’s a horrible balance of both aspects. And it really doesn’t sound good, neither for himself nor for those around him. 😰 Not saying that Sai would become evil, but living like that would drive him crazy.
Can’t help but wonder if God went through something like that too.
And this also reminds me of that bit where Murata joked about Saitama losing power by the end of the series in one of the interviews. I know it sounded awful to many people at the start, me included. And that we wouldn’t be following the characters until the very end of their lives in the series that there’s much use thinking about it. But, say, if there’s any such possibility as what I stated above, wouldn’t being a normal person after all is over (if it goes like that) save him from the big void in his future?
Not my final thoughts on this matter, just playing with the idea of it.

Ok so! To cope, how about we talk about some theories for how Genos survives this, how Saitama treats him after (more carefully, full of guilt, etc) how it affects genos mentally especially in the wc events, how other characters r affected after almost dying (tho let’s maybe not talk about Garou? We could save him for another time, plus I’m mad at him even tho I know he was not completely himself when he did it). Basically, let’s try to come up with positive theories headcanons for this current fight and the aftermath! (I think it could maybe help those of us freaking tf out rn).

The OPM Manga is now on it's height!
But My question is...is Saitama 'struggling' a good thing for the OPM Plot?
Would it continue to go higher or will it collapse into same old Shonen Cliché?
Either way Chapter 166 wil forever change the OPM as we knew it.
Maybe we will be able to understand how strong Saitama really is....just maybe....we can answer the question:
"Can Saitama beat Goku tho?"

I started reading the One Punch Man manga a couple weeks ago. At one point started live blogging it to my sibling. Looking back, the specific screenshots I sent connected in a way that made me have even more feelings. I present: a transcription.
Me — 03/16/2024 10:58 PM caught between feeling Very Normal about this, and being like. yeah. those are the two states Genos exists in
Tumblr media
Me — 03/18/2024 11:07 PM my feelings have been grievously injured. Genos realizing that he doesn't want to die and needing to be told that that's a good thing. Look at his face
Tumblr media
Me — Yesterday at 4:32 PM this is a scene from an early chapter currently being remembered by the main character in chapter 166 after Something Happened. The only context you get is that I'm Going To Die
Tumblr media
Me — Yesterday at 5:34 PM I AM ALIVE BUT I AM UNWELL
Tumblr media
So yeah. Something something, Genos can handle himself until he can't, doesn't care about dying until he does. Something something, Saitama always shows up late, but it's never really mattered that much, until it's the only thing that matters, and then, by a miracle he can't even remember, he isn't late at all.
Something something, Genos saw complete self-destruction as a viable and acceptable emergency attack for so long. He attempts it in his introduction. He intends to attempt it again, and then can't bring himself to do so and thinks himself weak for it. He wants to live, and he doesn't understand it, and Saitama (says he) doesn't really understand either when Genos tries to explain. But he tells Genos that his continued survival must mean he's gotten stronger. And then Genos is murdered only minutes later.
What must Genos think? Thanks to Saitama, it didn't happen and no one else remembers it. Thanks to Saitama (refusing to let go of Genos' core), Genos does remember it. He was told that he's strong because he's alive, and then he died. That's not how Saitama meant it, but Genos doesn't know that because they're both shit at words. They value different kinds of strength. No wonder Genos is so concerned with and disappointed in his own physical strength in the following days.
