Imagine Jack and Neytiri on a date night, flying on their ikran, thinking everything is alright in the world, when all of a sudden they hear a toruk screech. They panic, thinking it will attack until they see it doing loop de loop and other stunts. When they look closer, they are baffled to find a certain human child on its back.
both of them would think they were tripping or something, cause what in the hot firey hell is going on here?
not only has another Toruk selected a rider (one is rare enough on its own) but it selected a little human boy born from the purest of demon blood? neytiri is ready to meet eywa, jake feels his blood pressure spiking higher then ever, both are stuck with their jaws hanging and their words trapped in their chests.
spiders sitting on the back of the toruk as she flys in tight circles, calling up to him ever so gently. they can see the smile on spiders face from where they had taken cover, if they strain their ears between the creatures chrips and calls, they can even hear his laughter. they can see the apex predator flying with a level of ease and gentleness that neither had ever seen even in their own ikran. she's careful with him, like she might be with one of her own young.
its so much to take in, there are so many questions. they had both already figured out spider was special, having a special connection to Eywa and her creatures, but this? this was something completely different. this wasn't a titanothere or a pack viperwolves or even a thanator. this was a toruk.
what did this mean? for spider, for jake, the toruk makto (could he even be called that anymore?), for the omatikaya, for pandora as a whole? spider was a human child and he was capable of things no na'vi could hope of doing, things that didn't even exist in the greatest of songs and fables. what did it mean that spider was capable of such a feat, that he was the second toruk makto in this lifetime. he was the youngest and clearly more skilled then any makto before him, maybe even all of them combined.
but they watched, jake with a smile on his face, and neytiri with a barely concealed look of awe on her face. it was a sign, one that might have dire consequences later, but for now they would just see it as a sign that spider was more than they could have ever imagined, that maybe the fear, the hesitance they felt, could fade away.
with date night offically over, they (jake) decide they might as well have some fun with this whole event, creeping out of their hiding place, and approaching the boy and his toruk.
she was protective, immediately stopping what she was doing, turning to shield them from the boy. neytiri felt a familiar blaze in her glare, a mother's anger, which had her pulling back, far behind jake, head bowed showing her respect to both the creature and her bond with the boy. jake wasn't smart enough to see that, or to listen to her, no he called out to the boy, yelling over the toruk's shrill warnings.
but to her surprise, she let up, loering her wings so spider became visible once more. he was smiling awkwardly, petting at her neck. the way she looked up at him way up on her back said it all. Eywa only knows how long she had known the boy, but she had already claimed him as her own and she was already tired of him, in the most loving way possible.
the night ended with spider showing off, showing the different stunts he'd managed to learn, how he communicates with her without a queue, her name (zize). jake gets to watch as this boy, without even having an avatar, puts his bond with his own toruk to shame, and surprisingly, he isn't mad. neytiri feels a sort of shame, she had cast spider out up until now, instead of just accepting him into her family, into her heart as she had jake, but she felt something ease in her as well, like she finally got it. spider was Eywa's child, he was zize's child, he was one of many pups and calves of both the titanotheres and the viperwolves. spider was the child of Eywa'eveng, and maybe, in time, spider could be her child too.
