I will admit the "too lazy to be racist" thing was a lot funnier in my head. It was initially inspired by thinking about systemic racism and its many forms, and it just frustrated me how so much effort is put into something so evil and ultimately pointless and dumb. I was trying to get that across but reading it again I can see I do not have the knowledge or the talent to pull it off. Though I don't know what you mean by "naiively glib".

Yeah, I totally getcha, and I apologize if I came off as smug or accusatory/judge-y, I just thought it was an interesting moment to shed a bit of light on the issue given it’s a very common misconception of the nature thereof and the post was good-natured/meant in good faith enough that it’d come off as a actually-friendly lesson.*

And by “naiively glib,” I mean the whole taking things with an air of levity without fully thinking through the issues with trying to add whimsy to something dark, which I’ve seen ya run into before at least one other time.

Which is always a risk with comedy, I’d wholly agree, and I can totally see how the message one’s trying to convey gets garbled or sounded funnier/smarter in one’s head, given that’s happened to me too on multiple occasions.

Heck, I also kinda have the opposite problem, IE getting so self-righteous and yet insecure that my head begins to double as a colostomy scanner discourse-wise, which is something I'm trying to work on...

*Tho, you mentioning the pointlessness of it reminds me of how racism’s so often stoked as a way to scapegoat problems of the working class on the vulnerable to keep the actual rich one-percenter-bastards from being held accountable, but that’s a bit off topic/for a different post.

Why is that rhino beetle pupa so wiggly? Are they normally so wiggly?

Many insect pupa wiggle when they’re held or touched! It’s not the greatest defense obviously but it’s at least better than doing nothing at all; it can startle or annoy some predators enough to move on, I guess! There’s also some insect pupa that can hiss or squeak.

Regarding "uncanny cuteness"- I propose "missing recipe", or something close to it, as a possible name. Because these "supposed to be cute" creatures often have all the typical traits of a cute character (big eyes, simplified designs, baby-like proportions) but they're either not balanced well or too heavily detailed. They have most or all the ingredients, but not the recipe.

That’s not bad.
