Tumblr media
【Note: Hello! I have decided to write short headcanons for a few men in this game [playable only, sorry Oleg simps (*_ _)人], excuse any fluency errors, English isn't my first language, and I am still learning as I go! Please enjoy, and don't hesitate to request anything; I'm open to suggestions!】
【Pairings: Dan Heng, Gepard, Jing Yuan x GN!READER】
【CW: none!】
☆〜DAN HENG〜☆
He enjoys your company even if you two aren't speaking; simply being aware of your presence near him when he's focused on something insignificant, like reading a book, relaxes him.
Definitely has a soft spot for you and lets go of his usual cold and reserved demeanor when you two are alone.
There have been a few instances of him unconsciously beaming at you as he got lost in thought, looking at your excited face while you rambled about something you're passionate about. He'd never admit to it, though, if you called him out on it.
Prefers to be the big spoon mainly because he loves the feeling of your back pressing against his chest when your breathing slows as you fall asleep.
However, he appreciates it if you ask to be the big spoon whenever he has a nightmare or one of his visions.
He has little relationship experience [renheng \(º □ º l|l)/], so as committed as he is to making you feel loved and appreciated, he searches the data bank in the archives for information on romantic gestures and comes across a book about the significance of pet names. After "educating" himself more, he may refer to you as "my love," "darling," or even "baby" if he's feeling particularly lovey-dovey.
Dan Heng isn't a jealous boyfriend; nevertheless, if something bothers him, he becomes touchy! Always holding your arm or wrapping his hand around your waist.
Haven only just awakened, he's such a sleepy cutie! He'd try to kiss you but miss and peck your chin instead.
☆〜GEPARD〜☆
He's an exceptionally blushy guy, and it's pretty simple to make him flustered. Just hold his hand, and he'll melt.
No matter how long you've been together, Gepard loves to kiss but will never do it without getting your consent first. His kisses are short and gentle, but they are also tender and reassuring, given that he frequently cups your face in his hands.
Even though this guy evidently struggles to keep his plants alive, he will make every effort to grow a lovely flower as a gift for you.
He attracts kids like a magnet; some of them aspire to be captains like him, and it's the cutest thing ever to see him grow nervous as they shower him with compliments and questions.
Sometimes he'd find you asleep on the couch, and he'd pick you up bridal style and carry you to bed carefully so as not to wake you.
Oftentimes, Gepard's responsibilities prevent him from spending time with you, but he always strives to make up for it.
Used a cheesy pickup line once and never tried it again after feeling the second-hand embarrassment.
He always looks for a way to impress you with his strength.
☆〜JING YUAN〜☆
His duty as General usually keeps him occupied with work stuff, so when you pay him a visit during the day, he'll light up almost instantly and he'll be in a good mood.
You have to constantly kick him (gently or with force depending on how much sleep he has robbed you of) so he can turn to the other side and stop snoring.
When writing about his day in his diary, he always mentions the instances where something reminded him of you. (Spoiler alert: the majority of his day description is him adoring your facial features).
Jing Yuan's kisses are typically quick, although if he's feeling exceptionally touch-deprived, he prefers deeper, longer kisses.
If you decide to move in with him, it will be incredibly domestic; you would prepare each other's favorite drinks and meals just the way you like them without needing to ask, and you will share each other's clothes and accessories on a daily basis.
Routine, even if secure, can be exhausting, and he finds himself trapped in one. Therefore, Jing Yuan appreciates it when you try new things with him and make him feel like he can breathe freely again. Without worrying about any boring responsibilities, just you and him spending time together. Those are his most treasured moments.
He's very protective of you. Secretly that is. It might seem that he's not that bothered by the times you may have spent a while longer on an errand or went exploring, but he's actually worried! Sometimes to the point of sending someone to go look for you, just to be sure you're all safe and sound.
Has asked you to massage his back on multiple ocassions after a particularly tiring day.

Hi!! Can you please write hcs about gn!wildfire!reader x Gepard. And reader is genuinely nice and playful person BUT they're so mistrustful of Gepard and Silvermane guards (and people from overworl in general) and they're kinda mean to him too but oh boy he's pining like crazy because he knows that they're a very kind and caring and brave person and he just wishes that they would tease him and smile at him because they're like that with others but not himmmm. But he's also so sexually frustrated because they have this tendency of grabbing his collar and they talk to him on a very commanding voice and he's ready to act like a damn dog for them fr
Oh MAN do i LOVE specific requests!😩 Yes yes yes I absolutely love this idea! I also included Sampo being a lil’ too flirty flirt and Gepard being a little jealous sh!t bc why not. Enjoy! 🤍
Tumblr media
Gepard made it his new personal goal to often visit the Underworld and help people there. After all, his oath made him swear he would protect ALL the people of Belobog. He felt guilty more than ever that he did not protect half of them for a decade.
Whenever he made his way over there, he did his best to fight off monsters, help scared children (tho kids here were more likely to kick his ass than the actual monsters), provide for homeless elders. He tried his best, and never, ever did he seek gratitude or praises for it.
Well… except for maybe a warm word of “you’re doing really well” from that one person.
❄️ Gepard first met you when him and Serval met with with Oleg. He would’ve thought it would be hard enough to gain the chiefs trust, but he accepted the help of the Silvermane Guards rather quickly.
❄️ After him and his guards defeated monsters and helped a pair of kids to safety, some people could not stop singing him praises. People of the Underworld had a new hope to look toward to.
❄️ YOU did not accept his help at all, tho. He heard you rambling to Oleg and Natasha about “why do we need them here?” “we survived without them” or sometimes you’d scoff and call them snobs from the overworld.
❄️ Overall he understood rather quickly that you did not like him. You made it clear with your glares, or the shameless negative comments about what he tried to do here (you would talk shit to Oleg about him right in front of him, for fucks sake), or, in case it really wasn’t clear enough, you’d bump his shoulder on your way out.
❄️ The feelings were somewhat mutual at first, but on his second visit, he heard a group of kids giggling and laughing and was shocked enough to hear your pretty and calm voice laugh and tell them to share the candy - actually teaching the underground kids manners. His heart swallowed with warmth at that very sight. And maybe he was staring for too long, because your laughs stopped and you glared at him, and turned away.
❄️ What did he really do to you?
❄️ This question ate him alive. At first it was pride: I didn’t do anything!
Then it was guilt: Did I do anything…?
And then he settled on the fact he must have done something.
❄️ He approached you, with red ears and tugging on his collar to create some space for him to breathe properly (why was he so nervous?)
❄️ “Hello, Y/N,” he greeted you politely, and got nothing in return, “um… I might have a question to ask you.”
“I might not have time,” you said, and turned away from him again.
“No, no, please,” he ran in front of you, and you frowned when he stood way too close, and when you saw his pleading eyes you almost wanted to slap him. “It’s a quick one. Did I do something?”
“Excuse me?”
“To upset you,” he spoke, and the way he was tall and leaning over you was annoying enough, perfect prince, with his perfect blue eyes and perfect overworld life (it didn’t matter he wasn’t actually a prince, he sure as hell looked like one… and that was irritating too).
“Ah, no, don’t worry about it,” you shrugged your shoulders, and gave him a sweet smile. He almost returned it, if you didn’t continue immediately: “You know, besides living your stupid lives up there,” you pointed your finger up, and then at his chest, actually, which made him more nervous, “and leaving us to starve, and die of sickness or cold here.”
Oh. You now poked his chest, and he felt his heart rate quicken. “Don’t ask me stupid questions again.”
He stared into your eyes, pretty [eye color] shade, and a glimpse of broken emotions behind that mean, ruthless glare. He almost wanted to… nevermind. He cleared his throat, and didn’t push your finger away from his chest. “These were my orders, us guards… we never really knew—“
“Ah, you guards and your orders. Following every single word of that bitch blindly.” You scoffed and poked him again, it actually almost hurt. Or maybe it was something inside that hurt him, he wasn’t sure.
“Don’t speak of Madam Cocolia that way, she—“
He didn’t get to finish, you grabbed his collar and pulled him inches away from your own face, finally facing him face to face, without him having the stupid adventage of being two heads taller. Suddenly he felt like he might just jump out of his body, his cheeks got hot, and his breath caught in his own throat. And he wanted you to do it again. But then he remembered you were actually angry with him, and not having butterflies flying around in your stomach… like he did.
“Don’t tell me what to do. Ever.” Your voice got low, threatening. His eye trailed down your body and saw the two daggers tugged behind your belt. The way he stared at your weapons got you even more worked up, so you tugged on the collar to pull him closer, “got it?!”
“Yeah…” he mumbled, and swallowed hard.
❄️ Gepard was screwed. He liked you. And you hated him.
❄️ He was quick enough to notice you didn’t hate anyone else, tho. Hook? That little brat that called Natasha an “old witch”? No problem at all. You played hide and seek with her the entire afternoon. Anyone that stopped by Natashas clinic to ask for medicine or to complain about some painful spot on their body? You smiled at them, and chatted about how things were going back at their home. You were sneaking candy to kids and greeting almost anyone on the street, giving them a wave and a warm smile. And the second a Silvermane guard appeared in front of you? You were ready to murder them with your eyes.
❄️ He loved it, to see you being nice, caring and protective of other people. It reminded him of his own self… well, in a way. He certainly wasn’t that murderous.
❄️ He didn’t love it to see you being overly nice to Sampo, tho. That guy caused him enough trouble already, and now, with him approaching you every morning, he wanted to put him in jail more than ever.
❄️ “Ah, my beautiful babe, shining more than ever,” Sampo sang you praises, and sneakily allowed his arm to rest on your shoulders. You gave him a laugh and hit his ribs gently with your elbow, calling him a horny ass.
❄️ Gepard felt his cheeks flush, and he looked away. Him and Oleg were just discussing something about a monster near an old couples house, but he could just not hear a single word Oleg said. Instead all he heard was “I mean, if you ever get cold at night…”
“Sampo stop being gross!”
“No, no, pretty, see these fingers?” He grabbed your hand shamelessly, and you let him. You actually let him. His thumb gently stroked your fingers. “Ah, those are cold fingers. We can’t allow that! Sampo won’t allow that. Tell you what, pretty, tonight why don’t we—“
❄️ Yeah, he got hurt pretty badly that night. His guards never, ever saw him so unfocused, so ruthless in a battle.
❄️ He breathed hard and groaned in pain when Natasha tried to clean his would. You arrived at the clinic, and she called you over to press down on his wound. Oh yeah, you had no problem with that. You pressed down hard, to remind him how stupid he was, and to be more careful next time. He groaned again.
❄️ Natasha left to get one specific medicine for him. You stood with your arms crossed and a bit of his blood on your hands. Your expression was unreadable, tho you glared down at him - as usual. When Natasha returned and you left, he’d swore he heard you say “Don’t do that next time, the kids like you.” It must have been the painkillers drugging his brain.
‼️ nsfw:
❄️ Remember that time you pulled him down by his collar and threatened his life? Yeah. That very night he kept stroking his dick hard, fast, and imagining your hand around his throat, eyes gazing deep into his soul, your hips rocking on his dick. He loved that so so so much, he wanted you to use him, to choke him, to do absolutely anything that pretty head of yours would come up with with him.
❄️ He felt guilty about it, disgusted with his own self. But then he did it the night after again, and the next night again, and again. Coming hard each time he imagined you raising his voice at him, he imagined you’d pull his hair and force him to go down on you. Gosh, he’d do anything you wanted.
❄️ He felt so guilty, in fact, that he’d get red in front of you sometimes — thinking back on all his scenarios he came up with at nights. You noticed him getting flustered, and honestly, it was mildly amusing.
❄️ One night, after a succesfull battle, you, him, Serval, Oleg, Natasha, Caelus and, unfortunately, Sampo, drank a bit in order to celebrate victory. Everyone got wasted eventually and left to go to sleep, only you, Sampo and him remaining by the table with bottles in your hands. It was a silent battle between him and Sampo to stay up longer, to stay with you alone.
Sampo, eventually lost. The guy almost crawled away wasted, and Gepard’s eyes laid down on you. Alcohol made his flusterness go away.
“What?” You scoffed, and gave a little smirk as you took another sip. “Oh, sorry, I bet all girls in the overworld beg to bounce on your dick day and night.”
Hm? Was that what you really thought? That wasn’t the case at all… not that he’d know about it.
“N—no, that’s not—“
You leaned closer to him, eyes scanning him up and down, and you took his chin in your hand, squeezing his jawlines a bit. “Oh, come on, perfect boy. They do, don’t they? They beg you to fuck them just as you keep begging to fuck me with your eyes.” You laughed, and pushed him away, and sat back in your chair.
And just like that he was sober, and speechless, and looking away.
“Hey,” you said, and traced your foot gently along his leg, up, up, and up, until you could rest it on his crotch, pushing down not so gently with your heel. He hissed, and looked at you. “Isn’t that true, perfect boy?”
❄️ You left shortly after. To just get another drink, but he thought you left completely, so he wanted to head on his way home too. But God, he could not stop thinking about you. And your hand gripping his chin. And before he realised it he was leaning against a dark alley wall, sliding his hand in his pants. He was so, so drunk, he didn’t even properly realise what he was doing.
❄️ You heard the silent slapping sounds, and the closer you got, the clearer his whimpers were: “Y/N, ah, ah, please, um,” he whimpered and begged in little whispers, his head hanging low in the dark alley, one hand resting on the wall, facing it. Other hand in his pants, making wet sounds.
❄️ You turned him around, his eyes widened in shock, he did not hear or see you come. He wanted to apologise, or to ask what were you doing there, but you gave him no chance as you pushed him on the wall, and trapped his so much taller body between you and the wall.
❄️ You kissed him, and it was messy and hungry. You kept biting his bottom lip to a point it’d get swollen, you pulled on his hair, you kept gringing on his dick through the fabric of his pants and kept groaning, while he whined and begged you.
You grabbed his shoulders and forced him to move away from the wall. You leaned on it now, pushing your own pants down. “Get on your knees, Gepard.”
And he did, immediately, without a single hesitation. And he let you pull and tug with your hands and grind your hips against his mouth until you were a crying mess.
❄️ During days you’d scoff and glare at him, and give him nasty comments and call him worthless or useless, or a guard garbage, or you’d flirt and basically promise to fuck Sampo in front of him… but at nights you’d grab his hand and lead him to an alley, or to any tent around that at least had a pillow. And you’d do absolutely anything with him, just as you wanted.
❄️ He always whimpers. Always goes on his knees first, giving you pleasure, any pleasure you ask for. He’ll do it.
❄️ Fucks you really rough from all the frustration you build up in him.
❄️ Wants your hand around his throat, even if he’s the one fucking you and making you cry and sob and whimper, you’ll be the one choking him.
❄️ Goes slow and sloppy and messy and weak whenever you allow him to cum in you. He loves it so much, and holds your hips against his with his hands, enjoying the little moments you don’t glare at him, but beg him to go deeper in you.

Why Study History? Russia Teaches a Lesson
By Jan van der Crabben
Why should we study history? We all have our personal reasons why we love history; some like reading exciting stories that can be stranger than fiction, others let their imaginations transport them to worlds gone by. There are many reasons for loving history, but in this article I want to explore why history actually matters in the here and now.
Unfortunately, that belief is not universal. Around the world, budgets for social studies and history in particular are cut, and the focus in curricula is shifted to more practical subjects, such as science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) in universities, and English and mathematics in schools.
Yet we have to look no further than the top headlines in current affairs to understand why history is extremely important as Russia’s invasion of Ukraine can only be understood through the lens of history. The primary reason for Russia’s war is neither economic (as wars so often are) nor religious (as wars so often were). No, it is Putin’s belief that Ukraine is the cradle of Russian civilization and should not be an independent country… especially not one that aligns itself with Europe. We know very well now that apart from dynastic lineage, the Kievan Rus had very little relationship to modern Russia. In the thousand years since the Kievan Rus, Ukraine has been at the crossroads of Poland-Lithuania, Austria-Hungary and Russia.
In the lead-up to the war, Vladimir Putin published a long and somewhat rambling historical essay where he places Russia in direct opposition to its western neighbours (who he blames for estranging Ukraine from Russia). The historian Serhii Ploky wrote that “the Soviet Union was created in 1922-1923 as a pseudo-federal rather than a unitary state precisely in order to accommodate Ukraine and Georgia, the two most independent-minded republics.” Ukraine’s independence has been a thorn in the Russian leaders’ side for a long time, but at the start of the Soviet Union, Lenin sided with the Ukrainians while Stalin was against it but went along anyway. Ukraine’s unique cultural mix was accepted as independent during Soviet times, and by the fall of the USSR, 90% of Ukrainians supported independence. Putin wants to wind back the clock to imperial times, fully incorporating Ukraine (and other regions) into a unified Russia. According to Ukrainian journalist Veronika Melkozerova, many Russians share this view.
Russia’s claim to Kiev is not a new one. The Russian Imperial historian Vasiliy Klyuchevskiy already wrote in 1908 that “the Russian state was formed by the activities of Askold and later Oleg in Kiev.” He refers to the Kievan Rus, after which Russia is named, whose dynasty lasted from the Norse leader Rurik (r. 862-879) all the way to Ivan IV, first Tsar of Russia (r. 1547-1584, also known as Ivan the Terrible). The medieval Tale of Bygone Years (c. 1113) called Kiev “the mother of all Russian cities” – which should be read Rus-sian, not Russian, to be historically accurate. Putin’s “favourite historian” Ivan Ilyin (1883-1954) was a fascist philosopher who argued for a greater Russia that included Ukraine. Much of Putin’s rambling historical essay is based on Ilyin’s nationalist beliefs, writes historian Timothy Snyder. Putin’s view completely negates hundreds of years of Ukrainian history, where the region was touched by more Western influences.
Tumblr media
If culture is a tapestry, then history is the fabric it is made from. National identities are built upon our understanding of history, which is why in most countries, history has been a compulsory subject in school since the 19th century. Recent legislation regarding how the history of slavery is taught in the United States clearly shows that governments still recognize the power of history to control the national narrative. As the current crisis shows, national identity is a powerful force.
According to Russian historian Dina Khapaeva, “the leitmotif of Russian history [is] a steady fascination with the West, coupled with an urge to excel it in order to escape its influence.” When Vladimir the Great converted to Christianity before marrying the Byzantine Princess Anna in 988, he forced his subjects to be baptized by the river Dnieper in Ukraine, which was associated with pagan beliefs. As a newly Christian state, the Rus needed Christian rules: The Ruskaya Pravda, the first Russian code of laws, was most likely written by Byzantine judges and also forced upon the Slavic population. As such, Khapaeva writes, “people perceived culture and civilization [...] as something enforced by foreign rulers.” Later Western reforms by Peter the Great, Catherine the Great, and other rulers were always enforced at great cost to the general population. After the fall of the Soviet Union, the promise of democracy and a free market economy brought a short period of hope and expectation of prosperity which was crushed by economic crisis and political instability. This “idealization of the West therefore intensified the national inferiority complex”, writes Khapaeva: While in 1990 over two thirds of Russians considered themselves European, by 2007 only one third did. In the same 2007 survey conducted by Khapaeva, 80% of Russians believed that the history of their country should only stir feelings of pride. It is easy for a canny authoritarian leader to use all of this to his advantage.
In this context, Ukraine looking westward and aligning itself with the European Union is a major affront to Russia’s identity and Putin’s vision. After all, Putin and Russian nationalists see Kiev as the birthplace of the Russian nation. The current war can be seen as a calculated demonstration of Russia's might and opposition to the West. While this is a risky gamble for Putin (who appears to have underestimated both Ukraine and the West’s response), the historical context gives it a sense of rationality, albeit a false one.
Only through an understanding of history and how it shapes national identities can we begin to comprehend the major events in current affairs. The past is used by politicians to actively construct national identities; it is misused as pretexts for wars; it is abused in misinformation campaigns on social media. History is very much present and it matters for the present, just as much as STEM subjects do, and must be prioritized accordingly in order to shield our democratic culture from such malignant perversions of history.

major grom/plague doctor pages that made me feel big emotions (pt 2/3)
1. Sergey's Childhood Flashback (Major Grom issue 10)
Tumblr media
Issue 10 of Major Grom (specifically Sergey's Metamorphosis chapter) is possibly one of my favorites in the entire series, and it's what got me into Major Grom/Plague Doctor in the first place. Aside from the art being absolutely gorgeous, it's one of the most important chapters in the series because it's the first time Phobs is in charge of the writing in a very dominating and significant way. Before this chapter, the OG Major Grom series was a completely different story with a conventional "off-the-grid cop vs leftwing revolutionary terrorist" plot with a traditional detective comic aesthetic and more focus on big action and world building than character-driven drama. This chapter, by comparison, is COVERED in Phob's influence, and it's from this point forward that her writing style lays the foundation for the rest of the series, and it starts with THIS PAGE RIGHT HERE.
Before this chapter, we frankly don't know anything about Sergey that makes him meaningfully redeemable or likeable (aside from his revolutionary rhetoric, but that was later deflated and replaced with a ridiculously criminal motivation specifically designed to deter sympathizers). Phobs essentially rewrites Sergey's character to take a less ideological and more personalized tone that focuses on humanizing him (which also inspires the creation of Bird as essentially a scapegoat for Sergey's past terrorism). This glimpse into his backstory, laden with vibrant yet soft dreamlike colors, communicates things we have already known about Sergey but in a more empathetic package. We see his love for fine art, his ostracization, his peers' early assumptions of his criminality and deviancy, all with the tragedy of that lost innocence coupled with his adult indignation. Ugh, I just love it. Sergey also looks so ridiculously gorgeous in this chapter.
Hands down, my single favorite page and moment in the entire series. Nothing can compete in my eyes.
2. Lera Post-Massacre Scene (Plague Doctor Issue 5)
Tumblr media
Long story short, this page fucks cuz it's Lera's TURNING POINT as a character and what later inspires her assumption of the Plague Doctor as an ideological identity rather than a (forced) occupation. Her pacifism, sense of responsibility, and her adoption of a broken world are all communicated in this scene. Her isolation is also made extremely potent; she's now an "outlaw" and cannot reenter normal society where her parents & everyone else occupy, but she's not entirely off-the-grid like Sergey and Oleg are. She's between both worlds with either side unable to fully accommodate her.
Natalia Zaidova (the artist of this page) perfectly captures the dread and self-blame of this page in a way that reflects Lera's overwhelming feeling of responsibility coupled with the crushing inability to CONFIDE in anyone about it. The stomach-sinking feeling is palpable. It rings like a point of no return, and it reminds me of a previous page from chapter 2:
Tumblr media
I could ramble on for so much longer about this but this is the jist of it. I love Lera. I love this page. UGH 💕❤️❤️❤️

OCs favorite movies that have Anton Yelchin in them
Eien: Star Trek (all 3 of them!) & Fierce People :/
Kagame: Green Room, Only Lovers Left Alive?
Ryu: Hearts in Atlantis or Middle of Nowhere
Mugen: Fright Night
Ren: Rudderless... Maybe Charlie Bartlett
Kolya: Terminator Salvation or Odd Thomas. He probably also likes Burying the Ex because of reasons.
Subaru: From Up on Poppy Hill
The idea here is that Eien has forced her friends to sit through many Anton Yelchin films.
And also TV Shows but they are not on the listing here lol.

Okay so I’ve been unable to stop thinking about the crossover since the last issue and there’s several things I just can’t seem to wrap my head around, so I’m writing a ramble that is basically me just trying to figure it out. This is kind of a review but more of just me dumping all my thoughts just so they’re not bouncing around in my head anymore lmao. I can’t really talk to many people about it because I don’t want to rain on the parade of people who loved it, but I also liked a lot of things and don’t want to just listen to someone bash it completely so rambling to myself on tumblr is how we go. Though, if you DO want to discuss any of this with me, PLEASE send me an ask or a dm or reply or whatever, because I would love to so much omg
I’m gonna start with the things I loved, then go into things that I didn’t like as much or concern me, then into the questions I have and the stuff I didn’t understand. I know there’s still the epilogue to come, which may wrap all of this up (please, please wrap all of this up lmao) and maybe some of these questions aren’t supposed to have answers yet, but I have to get it out somewhere cause I literally had trouble sleeping last night because of this lmao. And if you do have answers to some of these questions, PLEASE reach out to me and answer them because I am just. So perplexed. I’ve read IG and I feel like I still only understood maybe 30% of what actually happened so skskdjs
I don’t think this leans either negatively or positively in terms of my overall opinion, but if you’re hard on the “I love it, it’s flawless” or “I hate it, it has no redeeming features”, then you’ll probably disagree with like half of this either way so. Don’t get mad at me, these are just my opinions and you’re completely free to disagree with some or all of it
(under a cut cause this is more than 3 THOUSAND FUCKING WORDS somehow, what the hell, send help. Also spoilers galore for the Plague Doctor and Igor Grom series’)
What I loved
So first off, THE ART!!! I’ve always loved phobs’ art but goddamn, seeing the evolution is just something else. Every panel is downright gorgeous. It was such a treat to get an entire arc from phobs, truly a blessed event. All of it is just *chef’s kiss*
Secondly, the serovolk feels 🥺. They really hit so hard. Oleg being ready to go get Sergey right now immediately even though he’s still injured himself, then Sergey literally falling into his arms when he gets home all bloody and hurt. Guuuuh my feels 😭. I adored it. And the little hints, like Poet saying how ‘your loved ones don’t turn away from you’ and then the panel showing Sergey is just. So good. That really filled my heart
Another thing is that, if you were on twitter when the crossover was first announced, you’ll probably know one of the heaviest criticisms basically boiled down to ‘why do we need Igor and Sergey to fight again, we’re done with this, they’re done with this, why do that’ and I admit to being on that team. So I was really glad to see they didn’t, and also I enjoyed that they basically had the same reaction to being shoved together again lmao. They’re done with each other and neither have any interest in that. So I appreciated that solution to it, it felt really natural and needed
I also appreciated Igor’s character in general. If you’ve read the entirety of both MG and IG, plus any of MIG, you know he has some absolutely beautiful moments, and some that are uhhhh… very bland lmao. He’s a character that I don’t really gravitate towards personally, at least in the comics, but he has his moments. IG itself is a mixed bag for me, but I adored the Loci Method. I love the moments when he uses his words, when he’s more focused on protecting others than going after the villain, and overall the calm, compassionate, less punchy version of himself. This didn’t feel like a regression from IG, like many say MIG is. I really liked it. He’s grown, and this shows it well, in terms of how he handled everything and everyone he encountered
Chrysalis was also very intriguing to me. I really did not expect him to show up on the more heroic side, as I remember him being arguably the most violent of the Rubenstein trio in IG, but I will say it does make me breathe easier to know team Plague Doctor probably won’t have to fight him now lmao. I’m also really intrigued as to what’s going on with him and Poet (more on Poet in the questions section later) and Fireguy like. So Fireguy and Chrysalis are just buddies? And Poet is their unruly friend they have to go reign in now and again cause he’s the only one of the three still into murder? I haven’t the foggiest what’s going on there, but I am intensely curious. Also the like… sad lovey eyes Poet and Chrysalis were making at each other at the end there??? I know people ship them but wow what is happening lmfao
(Also ngl when Chrysalis first burst in my first thought somehow was it was Danila, cause grey hoodie with the hood up + superhuman strength but you know XD)
Things I didn’t like as much
I’m honestly not sure whether to put this in the questions section or here, but I think it’s more critical, so I’ll start by saying that, from day 1, I was on the team of ‘okay but what is the purpose of this’. And while that changed for a lot of people with this last issue, and that’s great, it didn’t change for me. It did clearly introduce new characters, which is all well and good and I knew would happen eventually (though, who is going to get slotted into PD vs MIG vs maybe another series remains unclear), but otherwise… I’m not really sure how it serves the narrative and moves either the plot or the character arcs in any direction?
For Igor, I think it had more of an effect. Much as he already seemed to have decided he was done with Sergey and Plague Doctor and all of it before the encounter, he did have that moment afterwards where he says “he didn’t seem crazy to me anymore”. And that… while I think he was already at that point before where he’d really let go of all that, I think he now knows it for sure himself. Which is something he learned that served his personal development and character arc. However, much as this was a crossover, it is only listed in the PD section, not the MIG section so… it’s kind of odd to me that Igor got more out of this emotionally than Sergey did lmao. Especially when it is a fairly minor development for him
Sergey, however… I don’t really see what he learned? He learned that Oleg took Rubenstein, yes, and that is sure to come up later, but I’m going to talk more about that in the ‘questions I have’ section. But that’s a piece of information, not something that has a real strong effect on his character. He also says that Oleg was right about that he shouldn’t have gone out, which is true but… again, he already learned a lesson about carefulness with Altan. I don’t think that’s a big character change moment either, especially because we know he was influenced to go and likely wouldn’t have solely of his own volition. So how can he be learning a lesson about going, when he didn’t actually make the choice to go of his own free will anyway?
Encountering Igor didn’t seem to affect Sergey at all, so that really didn’t do anything. And that makes sense, as considering the outcome of their previous 2 meetings, Sergey had a much stronger effect on Igor than the other way around. Poet just gave him information. The whole situation really just led to him getting mildly injured and saying again ‘okay, yes, I need to be more careful’ (even though this really wasn’t his fault cause he was influenced to go). And that’s it? That’s the entire effect on who, really, is the main protagonist of this arc? Idk, that feels weak to me. Like Sergey wasn’t much affected by this other than some minor injuries, so why did he even need to be there at all, in terms of the narrative, except to torture Igor by existing and have something he needs to talk to Oleg about later? I don’t understand that
(And maybe the purpose will become clear later, but right now I just don’t understand why this needed to happen at all, narratively speaking. It’s just odd, as the first arc was so good at setting things up and closing them perfectly, while this only seems to set things up for new characters, not for the existing ones)
…okay, I lied, there’s one other thing that did change for Sergey, and this is the thing that is making me very, very worried about the future: everyone now knows he’s alive. And this, this was really what made me very unsure about this crossover from the start. Much as the second issue confirmed Igor had no interest in chasing Sergey himself now, this issue pretty much confirmed my worst fear. If only Igor knew he was there, k, whatever, he’ll tell Max and Banu (who will surely show up again as investigating PD), but they have no proof. That could even be a plot point, them trying to convince everyone Sergey’s alive and not being believed. That could be fun. But. All the hostages saw him. Poet said his full name in front of everyone. Basically the entire world now knows Sergey Razumovsky is alive
“But,” you say, “KTP, that was surely inevitable, why are you upset about this?” Because, whether it was inevitable or not (and I truly don’t think it was), this means it’s not just Max and Banu knowing/suspecting he’s alive, or the Dagbaev’s having some personal beef with him. This is the entire world. This is FSB, Interpol, those white arrow people, and who the fuck else knows. Like. Maybe I’m getting ahead of myself here by worrying about something that won’t happen for 30-40 issues, but how am I to believe Sergey and Oleg will get to have a happy ending now that they’re internationally wanted criminals again? Keep in mind, Sergey is a very prolific serial killer in both Russia and Italy, and they’re both terrorists as well. A handful of people knowing or suspecting Sergey is alive without proof is one thing, but now everyone knows. Which means they’re pretty much fucked
Which is why I wish I could love this because everyone’s like ‘oh, look, such a beautiful happy ending for serovolk, together again, of course they will always have that’ but… honestly, I can’t even really enjoy that page at the end because now I fear it’s all temporary and that we’re all going to have our hearts broken in the worst possible way. How can they ever have peace now that it’s not just a couple of people looking for them, but the whole goddamn world? How can they ever have lasting happiness? How can they end this story alive and not inside a jail cell? I never doubted before that they would get a happy ending, cause they have to, they’re the fan favourites but now… I really, really don’t want this comic to end with them dead. I’m literally tearing up a little as I type this just thinking about it. And I’m now really, really worried it will happen
(God, someone please tell me serovolk will be alive and together and not in jail at the end of this comic. If they won’t be, I would genuinely rather stop reading right now and give up and find something else than have my heart broken like that again. I can’t do it again, okay)
(And, again, if the epilogue confirms that somehow not /everyone/ knows and they’re only suspected and they won’t have every law enforcement agency out there banging on doors trying to find them for the rest of the series, then I take all of this back and will shut up forever lmao. I don’t think this is likely to happen, because it feels too impossible, but please, I would really, really want that)
Also, as a last note, I’m not sure if this is a criticism per se, but I do find it funny that Sergey got his ass kicked so hard by like one random cultist when he was able to take out like 15 trained mercenaries in that warehouse considering he started with nothing but a charge cord and a sharp necklace lmao. But you know, maybe the lack of Oleg being in danger didn’t give him enough adrenaline sdklskdslks
Things I’m confused about
Now, onto things I have questions about. Some of these may be read as criticism, but I don’t consider them such. These are things I didn’t understand and am confused about, some of which may be answered in the epilogue or a future issue, or some of which could be things I’m just too dumb to see the obvious answer to lmao
So first off, Poet. Like all of Poet. I have read IG, in fact I read most of it twice to refresh my memory. And while I understood Poet’s deal in the first bit he was in, to be fair, the second bit with the plastic surgery was very confusing for me as well lmao like. Why was he going along with that? What did he get out of it? What was his motivation? But anyway, whatever, this isn’t about IG, this is about the crossover
But my questions remain kind of the same here. What was Poet actually trying to do there? Goal 1: get Igor to the museum and he needs the cultists to capture people as bait. K, cool, got that. Goal 2: bring Sergey there to ask about Rubenstein. K, cool, got that. Goal 3: put Sergey and Igor in the same room to… have a very awkward little chat? Okay, now you’ve lost me
Like Poet straight up says if he wanted them to kill each other, he’d just make that happen with the hypnosis. Cool, so that’s not what he wanted. He wants them to talk. To what end though? To make them uncomfortable? Why? And isn’t there a better way to do that? And it does seem like he’s going to kill them after, but like. Wouldn’t it be more fun to make them kill each other if you want them dead anyway? If I were him, I would’ve controlled Sergey and used him to attack Igor, cause Igor doesn’t like to kill people but also this is /Sergey/, so mmm conflicted. But he didn’t want to do that. So what did he want? Was it just like… to gloat? Make them talk cause he can? He didn’t even seem upset that they didn’t have much to say, he only got mad when they redirected the conversation at him. I don’t get it. I have no idea why Poet did literally any of this when the things that are clear he wanted had much easier solutions
Rubenstein info? Lure Sergey, ask him, when he says he doesn’t know, mind control him back to the apartment and ask Oleg. When Oleg refuses, have Sergey put a knife to his own neck and Oleg will spill it all. Kill Igor? Well, do exactly what he did but without Sergey there and then boom, kill him in whatever fashion you prefer. Easy peasy
Anyway, if you can tell me what Poet’s goal actually was, I’d love to hear it, because I don’t have the foggiest lmfao. And considering the entire crossover was incited by him doing all this for reasons, I’d probably enjoy it more if I knew what those reasons were. And right now, I have no idea, and neither did the like half dozen people in the server I’m in where I asked this lmao
(I also find it curious that so much of the fandom criticizes Lera, saying she doesn’t have clear motives, when she very much does, meanwhile Poet’s are completely inscrutable here yet everyone loves him. Really makes you think, hm)
Also Oleg not telling Sergey about Rubenstein is weird. Really weird. People have said it’s not, but it’s really freaking weird. Cause these two are pretty much always together, which means Oleg said he was doing something else when he did it. Or did it while actually being there to do something else. And then didn’t tell Sergey for… reasons? My suspicion is that Rubenstein said something Oleg didn’t like and doesn’t want Sergey to hear, so he just omitted the whole thing, but I do hope we find out for sure soon. I’m almost positive this question will be answered lmao, but it still bothers me
And, although I’m sure this will be answered too, I’m curious who is going to end up being who’s problem. Will the cultists show up in PD or MIG? Tbh I’d prefer MIG, I think they’d fit the vibes better, but who knows. And the Rubenstein trio? Well, they were previously Igor’s problem, but they could be Sergey’s now too (and, by extension, Oleg’s and Lera’s), or maybe they’re getting their own series? I have no clue. Max and Banu are clearly going to stick around. So we’ll see how all that goes
I feel like I had more questions when I started typing this lmao, but I think the big ones really are Poet’s motivations and then the purpose question, which I put in the criticism section. I also feel like… Idk, after the first arc, I felt I had a very clear picture of the kinds of things that would come up later and what this series would look like and what it would largely be about. But now? I feel like I know nothing. And that scares me a little, because when I can’t predict how a story will go, then how can I know it’ll end okay? I think that’s what really gets me. Is now I have doubts I didn’t before. So. I do hope the epilogue clears a lot of this up, or maybe when the issue after that comes out, it’ll just forget 90% of this happened lmao as sometimes happens. Idk, I guess we shall see
And, like I said at the top, if you actually read all this (or if you didn’t cause it’s stupidly fucking long lmao but are seeing this paragraph anyway), then please, please feel free to reach out and chat with me about any of it. Cause I would LOVE to talk to someone about some of these feelings and I really don’t have anyone right now cause most of my friends really liked it and I don’t want to upset them, or they have the same questions I do with no answers. Anyway, that’s my ramble, hopefully this will leave my brain and I can relax in peace now lmfao

A, B, N, O, U, V, Z
From the Fandom Meme
A - Your current OTP(s)/OT3(s)/OTX(s) Currently I’m mainly writing two of them:
fShenko
Jedi Knight/Doc
Though I have WIPS of so, so, so many OTPs and OT3s.
B - A pairing you initially didn’t consider but someone changed your mind Sharky Boshaw and John Seed. Yep! This is all thanks to Chyrstis’ wonderful writing. She really captures an element between these two that just spans the seeming personality gap so wonderfully.
Another pairing I was never really a fan of that someone turned me onto was JK/Doc. I didn’t even play Republic side characters until I read @alyssalenko‘s fic for her Trooper and later her JK. It really opened up a whole other world of intriguing characters and storylines, for which I am eternally grateful.
N - Name three things you wish you saw more or in your main fandom (or a fandom of choice) This was a struggle to answer once, so I’m going to direct you to the previous answer for this one.
O - Choose a song at random, which ship or character does it remind you of
Okay so the shuffle says: You Might Think by The Cars
This one really feels like Leah Rook and John Seed. They go through this kind of boomerang type of situation. It captures the way they can read things about one another, and how they just can’t stay away, and how they keep ending up in one another’s orbit. There’s also an element of the clash between and they way they kind of also keep one another going in some ways. It’s not a healthy relationship or association by any stretch of the imagination. But they keep coming back around and foolishly playing with fire together again. Because when it comes down to it, they both really want to be with one another when you strip everything down to bare bones.
U - 5 favorite characters from 5 different fandoms Dragon Age:
Varric
Sten
Aveline
Cassandra
Wynne
Mass Effect:
Kaidan Alenko (shocking, I know!)
Kasumi Goto
Thane
Garrus Vakarian
Joker
Middle Earth:
Faramir
Gandalf
Tom Bombadil
Treebeard
Eowyn
Skyrim:
Brynjolf
Vilkas
Cicero
Kodlak
Arngeir
Saints Row:
Oleg Kirrlov
Johnny Gat
Shaundi
Carlos Mendoza
Matt Miller
V - 3 OTPs from 3 different fandoms Going to choose some different fandoms for this one, so I guess I’ll grab up the ones that I have written for in the past. Though to be honest, in hindsight these felt a little trite and obvious. But alas ... here they are.
Far Cry 5
Deputy/Sharky Boshaw
Nick and Kim Rye
Deputy/John Seed
(Though I do adore @chyrstis’ OT3: Sharky/Dep/John Seed)
The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim
Dovahkiin/Brynjolf
Dragonborn/Vilkas
Cicero/The Night Mother
Star Wars: The Old Republic
Jedi Knight/Doc
Lana Beniko/Koth Vortena
Sith Inquisitor/Theron Shan
Z - Just ramble about something fan-related, go go go (prompts optional but encouraged)
I’m going to be totally lazy and point you back to the previous answer to this question. I’m really not in a great space for rambling today.

Share a snippet from one of your favorite dialogue scenes you’ve written and explain why you’re proud of it.
“What’s wrong, honey? I know you don’t like talking about your feelings, but if we’re going to get married…”
“I pictured this different, is all. Maybe you did too, I don’t know. Maybe you used to clip pictures out of those bride magazines when you were twelve like my sister, only I bet you would actually buy them and Janice used to steal them because Ma thought they were stupid.”
Carmela stifles a snort of laughter and pats his shoulder, letting him ramble on and get wherever he’s going with this.
“You probably didn’t think you were going to be knocked up first, right? You were this good little Catholic girl, and you’re smart, you’re in college. You probably didn’t expect any of this. I wanted to do that for you, all the bride magazine stuff. Not that I actually read Jan’s magazines, or anything, only a little bit to make fun of her. But I was going to wait and ask you when I could get a nice ring. Take you to the Plaza in the city and buy you champagne and what the fuck ever they eat in a fancy restaurant, and a ring like a movie star. I’m supposed to be able to provide for you how you want. How you deserve.”
“You can still get me a big ring, Tony, I’m certainly not going to say no to that. But I understand what you’re saying. I would have pictured something a little different too.”
okay so this is from a sopranos flashback fic kfjdsakdjfgdfg but I was really proud of this dialogue/scene because I feel like I did a good job capturing the character’s voices and also balancing the fact that this is a difficult/emotional moment for them with like....casual intimacy?
Which fic has been the hardest to write?
Honestly? Probably my Succession fic from the perspective of Caroline, because she’s probably the least sympathetic POV I’ve written from and it was kind of difficult to get inside her head, but also fun. Either that or my Nina/Oleg from the Americans fix-it fic because it’s by far the longest thing I’ve written and required a lot of research to make it historically accurate.
Which fic has been the easiest to write?
probably my Zuko series, I really felt like I watched ATLA and it just came rushing out!

Writing tips collected from a certain podcast:
let the gays be kind of assholes and commit murder
Everything can be foreshadowing if you're smart about it
There is no fantasy universe that wouldn't benefit from a little sci-fi and vice versa, literally just fuck around
Just some guy X death will never not be an excellent relationship to add to your story
If you add a child side character there must be something deeply wrong with them
If your cringefail idiot protagonists end up saving the world it is crucial they stay cringefail through the whole thing
A good way to avoid the "twins that are basically the same character" trope is to make one of them trans and also trap them in a magical umbrella for most of the story, trust me
"Memory wipes are kinda overdone" listen. Listen. Execution is everything.
Be a little funky about it all
You should always crash the train
When in doubt, add spaceship

Been seeing a lot of plothole negativity, so here are a few fun things to do with plotholes:
Bury your insecurities there
Store ideas in it. It's cold and will perserve them well
Dig. Dig until you reach hell and the make a deal with the devil to have the most flawless plotlines in the history or mankind
Plotholes get lonely on their own. Make more! Make a colony! Leave them to their own devices for 10+ year until they develop sentience and try to rebel against their creator!
Hide a body. Nobody'll go looking there

i love the narrative of things only being discovered after they are lost. Character development that is so slow and subtle that it is only noticeable after they regress to their old ways. Trust between people so guarded that it can only be revealed in a betrayal scene. Love that is realised after parting forever. They didn't get to cherish it but they get to mourn the loss of it. There won't be a second time and they missed the first.
