Point Pelee Mums

I used to be a job coach for adults with developmental disabilities, my assigned client worked at Walmart. He LOVED when it was time for the flowers to be put out and we would spend as much time as we could in the garden center so he could pet as many plants as he could. He absolutely loved Mums of all kinds. I loved seeing how much flowers made him happy and he would just take his time, feeling them, smelling them, and sometimes putting his ear to them.

I took a pic of some of the flowers that made him happy. For a few minutes, we would stop our day just to do a bit of what we loved, him smelling the flowers, and me capturing the moments. I sure did learn a lot from that lil ol man. ❤️

Republicans think that running on law and order issues will help them in this election cycle. Perhaps they ought to “do the research” before opening their mouths and sticking their feet in them.

Oklahoma is a deep red state. But the race for governor this year is surprisingly competitive.

Incumbent Trump Republican Gov. Kevin Stitt is being challenged by Democrat Joy Hofmeister.

During a gubernatorial debate, Hofmeister brought up the fact that Oklahoma has a higher rate of violent crime than New York or California. Stitt tried to laugh it off. However a fact check confirmed Hofmeister’s assertion.

John Roman, a senior fellow at NORC at the University of Chicago, told Yahoo News that Hofmeister’s numbers were accurate. Citing FBI data, Roman said that “Oklahoma is 12th in violence per 100,000 residents and 7th in property crime per 100,000 residents. California is similar but lower for each, and New York is much safer and below the national averages in both property and violence. Overall, putting violent crime rates and property crime rates together, Oklahoma is on the list of the top 10 highest crime rate states.”

Roman noted that the National Incident-Based Reporting System now being used by the FBI is new and that California and New York only provided estimates for 2021, which were factored in the data. However, Roman added that the old system prior to 2021 “shows the same general trend in recent years: California and Oklahoma are similar, with Oklahoma a little higher on property crimes, and New York much lower on both.”

By coincidence, there was recently a bizarre quadruple murder in Oklahoma.

The Trump Republican playbook is to portray blue America as a den of violence. While it’s not perfect here, you’re safer in NYC than in most of red America.

Ahead of next month’s midterms, the conservative cable network Fox News has been promoting stories about crime, following host Tucker Carlson’s own August advice for Republican candidates to focus on “law and order” to cause a “red wave” at the ballot box. This coverage has generally focused on cities — typically controlled by Democrats — including accusations of police defunding following the protests of 2020. However, few cities actually decreased police budgets, and most increased them over that time.

The coverage of crime extends beyond right-wing media and GOP attack ads: A Bloomberg analysis in July showed that while shootings in New York City were relatively flat — although higher than pre-pandemic levels — news coverage of the shootings were at a much higher rate than last year. Polling has shown that for decades, Americans almost always think crime is worse than it is, regardless of its level at the given time.

There are more big cities in blue America. So there are a lot of people concentrated in urban spaces. The number of crimes will obviously be higher in densely populated areas than in thinly populated areas. But when you look at per capita crime, blue states look a lot better – despite what Fox and the GOP tell people. If NYC was as dangerous as Fox News claims, it would be located in Muskogee, OK instead of the Times Square area.

New York City has more than double the population of Oklahoma – but not more than double the crime.

NYC has had nothing like the Okmulgee, Oklahoma quadruple murders this year where four people were chopped in half and thrown into a river.

So for a safer Oklahoma, Vote Democratic.

TBH I'm happy to see younger Native actors get a chance at success without being exploited like other actors have been in the past. But Reservation Dogs is kind of a pan-indian show. There are dozens of tribes there but they pull out actors and characters situations from anywhere outside of Oklahoma. In the midst of cancel culture, if I ever said WHY a certain established actor who's guest-starred on Reservation Dogs is a creep who tried to kidnap and statutory r@pe my dad's cousin when she was 15, people would be like Don'T HATe On NaTIvE ActORs, you're a hater, blah blah blah (and the irony is that he starred in a film based on a book by Sherman Alexie, and the latter had his reputation ruined but the former guy was just as bad if not worse than Sherman is in his personal life).

#and my dad's sac and fox and mvskoke creek and definitely from OKLAHOMA and Okmulgee where this show is filmed #it's what I thought last year or so #this is still a pan-indian show bc they want Native representation even if it can look cheesy or unrealistic #however this episode was pretty realistic considering the way Natives terrorize each other in a harmless way #but they don't mention any of the tribes there and only hearing mvto or cepvne like a couple times idk #it's still a pan-indian show

You are the newest addition to the Double-A Okmulgee Pecans, a Minor League affiliate of the successful and storied Oklahoma City 66s. Surrounded by young, talented, hungry ballplayers, it’s your job to not only succeed in this competitive league, but stand out. As a catcher, you play one of the toughest positions in baseball— and the most important. Your chemistry with your pitchers and your team can make or break a play, an inning, or a whole game. With the constant eye of coaches, team management, and baseball fans on your back, will you find your swing? Can you help lead your team to victory? Catch bullpens one-on-one with your pitchers to build your chemistry— on the field and off of it. Become a better catcher, and make them better too.

Lead a locker room and become part of a tight-knit team aiming for victory— and maybe a promotion.

Flirt with and romance any combination of your pitchers, other teammates, or the competent Front Office intern. Choose the gender of 2 out of the 4 ROs.

ROMANCE OPTIONS.

JJ Kim (gender selectable). 23. A rising star pitcher who is almost, but not quite, the team’s ace. Has a temper that has gotten them ejected from a couple games, but uses that intensity towards being the best on the mound. Friendly, but soon it becomes clear they’re difficult to truly get to know.

Olivia Lawson (f). 25. The cheeky second baseman who, despite her unflappably positive attitude, is aching to prove herself. A locker room leader and part of the Pecans for two years, she’s seeking a standout season and wants nothing but the best from her teammates. A cheerful, loyal presence underscored by fiery determination and grit.

Hirohito Kinoshita (m). 24. The best pitcher on the team by a long shot. A rising star who previously played professionally in Japan before signing as a free agent in the offseason. It’s widely assumed that he’ll be in the Major Leagues in the next year or two. Sarcastic, cocky, and kind of an asshole, with a genuine curiosity for his new home.

Dakota “Junie” McIntosh (gender selectable). 22. A college senior and D1 athlete trying their hand at baseball administration on the off chance they don’t get drafted. Though they pitched in high school, they now exclusively play shortstop, but at the moment all they’re playing with is paperwork and Excel formatting.
