Meet the Fotia family~
—————————————————————————————————————
Here is a cookie for when you read, if you do choose to do so ~🍪
Parents:
Eilidh (Selwyn) Fotia:
Eilidh (ay-lee): means “light” or “radiant one”
Eilidh is a Scottish pure blood witch that went into hiding for having a secret affair that involved another pure blood family. (She wasn’t in a relationship, but Hemera’s real father was.)
She was a Ravenclaw when she went to Hogwarts as a student.
Before she went into hiding, she used to be a historian, learning about the history of magic which lead her to study ancient magic. She even knew how to use ancient magic herself.
She ended up having a child from the affair she had and kept the baby in secret when she was in America
Most of Hemera’s life she didn’t know her own mother was a witch.
She is a bit head strong, she uses her anger as a defense mechanism and is usually oblivious to any love and affection she receives.
*Curses in Scottish Gaelic*
She has a very thick Scottish accent, she speaks Gaelic half of the time because that was her first language.
She never used her magic as she kept her abilities private. Although! she did have to cast Obliviate on Hemera so she wouldn’t know how to talk to snakes anymore. (👀)
Arthur Fotia:
Arthur: means “noble and courageous.”
Arthur is a muggle who grew up and lived in America most of his life. He had a passion for making different kinds of alcoholic beverages, specially scotch and wine.
He has a smooth American accent that confuses Eilidh from time to time, and Hemera adapted his American accent.
He met Eilidh when he ended up in London after spending time in Scotland and Ireland to learn more about how they make their alcohol.
When he brought Eilidh to America, he already knew that she was a witch and that she was in trouble.
Although he isn’t the real father of Hemera, she believed him to be, he was always the cheerful dad for her.
He is very charming and tends to be a huge flirt, but he can get sensitive and soft very easily.
Usually he gets in trouble with Hemera (which is often) as their both being yelled at by Eilidh.
Arthur was the father that taught Hemera how to do everything. Although at that time women were seen as house wives only, Arthur wanted her to learn how to be independent which made her look like a “tomboy” to others (whatever tomboy was in late 1800’s)
Hemera had no idea her mother was a witch and her father was actually her stepfather, but she loved them both dearly. Unfortunately, her parents were killed in an unknown accident when Hemera was 11. (For angst purposes…) She eventually had to move to London to live with her pure blood relatives, where she will learn that her mother is a witch and she is part of a wealthy pure blood family.
Relatives:
Skye (Selwyn) Gollach:
Skye (sky): means “island” or “island of clouds”
She is pure a blood witch that is mostly popular and wealthy from her family name. Her family are huge pure blood enthusiasts, but she disagrees with their logic.
Skye is the older sister of Eilidh, they were practically best of friends growing up together.
She was a Slytherin when she went to Hogwarts, which other students found odd because she was the sweetest Slytherin for her house, but she is a cunning and determined gal.
Skye treats Hemera like her own daughter, mostly because she can’t conceive her own children, but also because she loved her sister very much and promised her she would take care of her.
She does speak Scottish Gaelic but her accent isn’t as thick, and she doesn’t use it regularly much.
At a young age she was married off to another family to “form alliances” and thus married into the Gollach family who were small, but consist of pure bloods.
Whenever her husband is being too mean to Hemera, she threatens to leave him knowing she is is only source of income because of her family. (Translation: she’s the badass aunt)
Although she is very nice and calm person, if you get on her bad side, you will feel her wrath, and it won’t be pretty.
Richard Gollach:
Richard: meaning “powerful, hardy” but his name also means “dick” as slang
He is a pureblood wizard that believes that muggles shouldn’t learn magic, even half-bloods.
He is usually a rude and demanding person, as he has a very cocky attitude with an inflated ego. Although he does have a soft side, he just tries to hide it to feel more confident.
Richard isn’t a violent person (don’t worry, Hemera didn’t get her scar from him) he is violent when it comes to words on the other hand. He verbally abuses people he deems as unworthy.
He sees Hemera as a “gross mudblood” and so she is usually treated poorly by him. Having to be a house maid and can’t indulge in any of the conversations he has with guests as they relate to magic, she isn’t allowed to learn magic.
Although he knows that Hemera’s mother was a witch, he doesn’t know that her real father was a pureblood, Which makes him more of a dick. (Hemera doesn’t know she is a pureblood herself)
When he was in Hogwarts he was placed in house Slytherin, if you want a comparison, he was equivalent to Draco Malfoy, all talk but no bite.
Richard actually became an Auror after his time at Hogwarts and he was good friends with Solomon Sallow when he was an Auror. (I did this because I find this hilarious)
Hemera lived with her relatives in London for 4 very long years before she gets a letter to attend Hogwarts. Of course her uncle was fuming about this and didn’t want her to attend a magical school. But her cool aunt let her sneak out the house so her mentor, Professor Fig, could teach her the basics before she was sent to Hogwarts without her uncle’s approval. (Suck it Richard)
(Might edit later in the future)

in the collective reality where oda actively bothers to do something with alvida and/or galdino in this new post cross guild going for the one piece reality, how plausible do u consider either of them actively caring for buggy or going behind his back to help him in some way? i find the fact oda kept alvida with the narrative extremely fascinating and it frustrates me how she is so underutilised (then again with such a huge cast it is hard to get every character to do a lot, but alvida could have been discarded quite easily post loguetown. yet here she is, a 1000 chapters later, sitting on the cross guild couch drinking wine)
i do wonder sometimes what oda is thinking when he keeps characters like cabaji, mohji, and alvida around a thousand chapters since they last really did anything. does he like drawing them? does he want to throw a bone to the handful of east blue stans out there who miss when op pirate crews had a simple gimmick they stuck to? is he trying to show that buggy lifts his crew up with him, or refuses to leave anyone behind? i just don't know.
modern day alvida has a lot in common with galdino. she's calculating, analytical, and sides with the person who will give her the greatest advantage. that's been buggy for a long time because he's had the appearance of power for a long time. even now, the appearance of power is still there. does she actually care for buggy? does galdino? i'm not sure.
but for the purposes of answering this question, let's assume that she does, that they both do. i think their pragmatism still outweighs any fond feeling, unless:
it's to their significant advantage to help buggy, and/or
they won't get caught
safety above all else, you know? and getting on either mihawk or crocodile's bad side is not particularly safe behavior.
