Merry Christmas Carmilla Secret Santa gift to @charlee-lang
I sat across from her as we went over lines for season two of Carmilla and I couldn't stop myself from looking at her lips. Seriously after we kissed for season one it's all I think about! I watched helplessly as she brought the hot cocoa to her lips. I wanted to be that cup I know I am a bit crazy but she is driving me to be this way.
I thought I could handle this stay friends I mean I knew I was attracted to her but I had no clue how much till her lips stole my heart. Now I can't see anything except how perfect she is.
I melt every single time she smiles and it's hard not to get lost trying to memorize how all her freckles move. I can't hear anything else when she laughs. She is the sweetest little human alive. Today she brought her own homemade hot cocoa for me! She has this light around her that makes her look like she is glowing! I looked away from her lips to soak in the beauty of her make-up free face. The way her tan skin makes her honey eyes pop is like nothing else! Her eyes were wondering over the pages in front of her she sighed at something and ran her hand through her golden hair. I had to glance away as she lifted her gaze "Natasha can you believe they have been sleeping in the deans bed?" I snapped out of my trance as my name left her lips it took everything not to focus on how perfect it sounds coming from her. I looked at her "well obviously Carm saw no harm in it but yeah how weird?" She laughed "oh god do you think they like fucked in her bed?" I literally choked as I looked at her innocent sweet face and tried to stop my mind from replaying what she just said on repeat. I smirked "hmm good question but I think Carm is more of a romantic than that plus shes totally a gentlewoman I highly doubt it". I looked down at the script then back up only to see her honey eyes locked on me and the sweetest smile "Natasha you are so soft but I suppose you might be right Carm would take Laura to the rooftop to look at the stars and be all romantic". I smiled "Elise you can't possibly tell me that doesn't sound like a good way to sweep a girl off her feet? Soft ha! More like smooth". I winked at her with a smirk plastered across my face. She rolled her eyes "Negovanlis put away that Karnstein smirk!" I smiled fully "Miss Bauman does my Karnstein smirk get to your inner Hollis?" She laughed "I can't even with you Natasha!" I took a sip of the delicious hot cocoa as I looked at her eyes playing a flirty game with hers. I was about to over emphasize how much I was enjoying the drink when Annie walked up to me "Nat have you seen Kaitlin?" I shook my head no and she walked away. I sat the cup down and turned my attention back to Elise who held back a giggle "you uh have something" she reached across the table and swept her thumb over my top lip. I froze the feeling of her skin touching mine. She was using her finger to wipe my lip she didn't use a napkin she was using her finger, I repeat her finger was touching my lip! I tried to shake the effect she had on me to compose myself "uh thanks". She smiled as she sat back down "glad to see you like the cocoa" I nodded any bits of my inner Carmilla faded as she brought her thumb to her mouth and licked it clean "mm it's pretty great stuff an old family recipe". All I could do was internally scream "oh um yeah pretty great stuff". She smiled innocently like she hadn't just killed me with her actions. I knew I was falling more and more in love with her that day with every little simple thing. God what is in the hot cocoa a love potion?
More magical hot cocoa and some cookies for the Christmas special and I was done for.
I could hardly keep my mind off of how cute Elise had been for our little Christmas special. I was becoming more and more hopeless.
The day came for filming and I was beyond nervous I would have to kiss her basically right away!
How was I supposed to keep my cool Carmilla exterior when I just wanted to scream?
As they yelled action I waited for my cue praying I could pull this off. I heard my cue my little Laura talking to her audience. I walked out from behind the curtain and managed to kiss her without completely losing my cool.
It took a few takes but I wasn't complaining because I could literally kiss her till the end of time!
We wrapped up the first day right on schedule and then all headed to dinner as per tradition of first day filming called for.
I stuck pretty close to Annie because my lips were still buzzing begging for more contact with the sweet lips I had been kissing only hours ago. I didn't trust myself to be alone with Elise. When we all made it to dinner Elise came and sat next to me and Annie making my nerves spike yet again.
All through dinner Elise was more touchy and adorable then I could handle I had to excuse myself to the restroom a few times before I lost all my composure.
I watched as Elise told yet another story her eyes lit up as her smile took over her face everything she played as Laura the storyteller showed her enthusiasm contagious as ever. I smiled trying to pay attention but losing my thoughts in wanting to kiss her for the millionth time!
I quickly excused myself and walking quicker then ever to get to the restroom. I took a deep breath and splashed water over my face. Oh my god get a hold of yourself woman she's a coworker she's a friend she way too important to hurt you can't just kiss her! My cheeks were on fire I was panicking I need to cool off I need to control this mess! I padded my face with a paper towel just as I heard the door to the restrooms open.
I felt myself hold my breath as I heard her “Nat are you okay?” I dried my face and turned to see a concerned Elise looking at me with those golden eyes. I was doomed!
I didn't trust my voice so I just nodded making her step closer. She reached up slowly to move some of my hair out of my face “it is no use lying to me I think I know you pretty well now and you've been different and I kind of think I know why...” Her pause made my stomach flip. She rested her hand on my cheek and smiled “I didn't think it was true when Katlyn told me that is until today.” She moved closer her breath played on my lips and I seemed to be paralyzed. She whispered “I am falling for you possibly just as much as you are falling for me.” Her words hit me like an electric shock to my system restarting my heart just in time to react to her lips meeting mine. I melted into her kiss and instantly reacted grabbing her hips and pulling her in closer. This was better then anything I had ever experienced before in my life I thought I was falling hard before I was crashing into her now!
She seemed to be just as frantic as I was to keep the connection and get more I felt her move and let her guide me back against the wall our lips never parting. With each move we gasped for air and hello tighter. I never wanted the moment to end but we were in a public bathroom and really should have figured someone would come looking.
We broke apart at the sound of Katlyn laughing “I knew it Annie owes me 20 bucks! It's about freaking time too!” I felt my cheeks flush and averted eye contact “shut up Katlyn!” I grumbled and sighed and that earned me a kiss on the cheek from Elise “you did not bet money on us!” Elise laughed as she spoke “I can't believe you two god our friends are such children!” I nodded in agreement. Katlyn laughed “the way you two attacked each other for that kiss in season one and how freaking flirt you constantly are we had to make a bet besides we were not wrong I was just more right then Annie she said you would both stay clueless at least till the middle if shooting season 2”. I couldn't believe my ears was it that obvious?
I honestly don't care about anything except Elise And just followed her lead going back out to be teased by the entire crew.
After dinner Elise came home with me and we drank cocoa talked for hours kissed more and talked until we fell asleep on the couch.
I knew she was my Laura and I knew she was my Elise and I couldn't wait for a million more moments with her!
Thank god for the cosmic magic of hot cocoa!

underappreciated things about rise 1x07: this will god willing get better
i love this episode!! i think that i say that about every episode but like. i love them
lou and tracey taking a selfie in front of the poster
gordy giving robbie bug spray
robbie’s little football stress ball
sasha’s dad is very briefly mentioned to have a drug problem?
michael figures out that sasha is pregnant almost instantly
“it is tech week. shoot me now.”
jolene being skeptical when lou says that they’re going to do a runthrough
the tech week montage is the funniest fucking thing why don’t we ever talk about it
i remember that when this episode was first on i had just gotten back from rehearsal for my tech week for anything goes and it was the most relatable thing. almost all of the things that happened in this montage happened during that week
anabelle is playing wendla’s mom?
harmony is the cutest and i love her. i just have to mention it
jolene’s dress ripping
propmaster!!
lou’s sad “oh, propmaster.”
cheryl flicking jeremy’s chin in bitch of living
everyone’s faces when the sound comes on
everyone crashing into each other during touch me while francis sings his solo beautifully in the background is an accurate representation of what’s happening in my mind at all times
sundeep breaking his guitar string is especially funny because that happened to our guitar player not even an hour before the episode aired
i’m glad that gwen didn’t instantly forgive her dad after the thing with the sign
coach and vanessa walking away from each other and then it just instantly cutting to them having sex
maashous’s shoe
maashous just staring helplessly at the dryer for a few seconds after he breaks it
gordy’s group leader!! he’s such a cool dude i would trust him with my life
why did we not to get to see more of jeremy and simon as ernst and hanschen i’m still so mad about this
they’re so sincere and sweet and i love it so much
the hand kiss!!
anabelle Suspects
simon burning his toast because he’s thinking about jeremy
“well it’s just acting, you know. been at it my whole life!” simon
simon, stunned with a mouthful of toast after anabelle invites him over friday night
clark is the one who asks if simon and anabelle are together? is he into one of them or does he just want to know the tea
on the topic of clark: my son, what in the fuck are you wearing
michael’s awesome flowered shirt
why do people argue in stairwells so much in this show
maashous doing a finger gun at lou before he turns on the lights
robbie leaping onto the stage
simon and jolene cringing at robbie
tracey cringing at robbie
the lift going up and making a really loud noise and lou shaking his head at it
why is lilette even on a lift how does that makes sense in this scene
robbie’s deadpan “no no no”
the band doesn’t even play but the awkward silence goes on for too long so michael just. goes for it
maashous’s conflicted face when he learns that he can go live with his mom again. i want more of his backstory
the picture of baby maashous and his mom
kaitlin is so indignant that she didn’t break the dryer
what is principal ward’s thing about pirates of penzance he never hesitates to bring it up
“this year’s ticket sales are next year’s budget" “this program will have to sustain itself” yeah can we stick with this instead of just cutting the entire program thanks??
i want to make “not everything’s about you, lou” into a meme
i love this scene with gordy and gwen in their math class
“you calm me down.”
the way that jeremy is filmed from the back when he goes to talk to simon reminds me of a skam episode
simon trying to change the subject by talking about his pants size?
simon is really cold in this scene, colder than he has been in any other scene, and it’s so easy to tell that it’s because he’s terrified as hell
jeremy’s voice crack :(
the only real emotion that simon shows in this scene is when he looks sad for a second when he turns back to the mirror
the music that plays in the background while maashous tries to fix the dryer
maashous is so upset when gail catches him he literally sounds like he’s about to cry
it’s missing maashous evers hours everyone
the episode is filmed differently than the others? i don’t know how to explain it but the camera angles seem different
lilette loves her mom so much!!
lou bought thirty tickets to his own show
jolene’s impression of tracey
and simon finding it so hilarious
harmony applauding her in the background
cheryl and jeremy are eating together. i bet that they’re a powerful friendship
the picture of little gwen and coach!!
jolene asking gwen if she’s okay
gwen feeling bad about her dad and bringing him pizza
god sasha’s boyfriend is a dick. who even is he who invited him
the troupe all looking over at the fight like “oh shit”
you can see that robbie and francis know that they’re going to have to break this up
michael is seriously fucking strong he straight up breaks the window
“DUDEDUDEDUDEDUDEDUDE” this is the straightest thing that robbie has ever said
(off topic but simon looks so cute in his sweater and tie)
gwen is so heartbroken when she sees vanessa
maashous’s true west playbill that mr. mazzu gave him
michael letting maashous stay at his place
michael is probably the only one that maashous has told about his mom
maashous’s face when gail hugs him
gordy’s story really did never get a proper resolution :)
jeremy’s deadpan “and in the meantime?”
simon seems like he might actually be trying but jeremy’s just not having it
cricket noises during the graveyard scene
the close-up on robbie’s face when the lift is going up
lou trying to use football metaphors and fucking them up
jeremy running out of robbie’s path
tracey ordering the troupe not to move
“propmaster. how is he a master?” i was propmaster for a year in middle school in this a mood
francis trying not to be noticed in the background
the contrast between tracey yelling at lou and talking to francis
why is he even here did he actually need that book or did he just want to know the tea
also there’s a very nice view of our old friend, the troupe’s mascot, the yoshi
tracey telling lou that it’s not about him
you can literally see on sasha’s screen that she’s fake texting when michael is talking to her
people always said that sasha and michael were an odd pair
michael holding out his hand to sasha and sasha taking it
i can never watch gwen pierce her nose i can’t handle it
what is with the recurring imagery of dryers in this episode does it have any symbolic meaning or is there just a lot of dryers
gwen is taller than gordy
clark in touch me!! i love that boy
i will never not be pissed about three things. one is that we never heard jeremy sing his solo. two is that they cut out georg’s solo almost entirely. three is that the really gay part in touch me doesn’t even exist
i would die for cheryl
this is the part that i like to call the sex montage
i can’t believe that gwen and gordy had sex on that beach in public where anyone could see them and it was probably fucking freezing. actually i kind of can
simon :(
SIMON :(((
there’s a lot that i want to say here but i feel like i can’t put it into words so i’ll just say that that’s a really important but also really really heartbreaking scene and it makes me so emotional and wow i love simon saunders
it’s very similar to the dwsa choreography for touch me and like. that’s great and all i love dwsa but does sean grandillo exist in this universe
this is the second episode in a row that’s ended with someone crying while someone else sings and both times it’s been a huge mood
also there was no title drop this episode??

A Coffee Connection Chapter 5
Chapter 5
Day Three, five days before the wedding. [Morning]
It was exactly six in the morning. Kay and Cameron hadn’t moved much from the positions they had fallen asleep in. The only thing that had changed was that Kay’s hand was resting on Cam’s chest and it was intertwined with his hand while his other arm was still around her shoulder. They didn’t seem to be getting up anytime soon until a scream was heard. They both jumped up at the noise, their heads slightly bumping against each other. “What was that?” Cameron asked.
“I don’t know,” Kay said, getting her gun out of her suitcase.
“Seriously? You brought your gun?” He chuckled.
“I’m an agent Cam; I’m never actually off the clock” They went outside of their room and a few doors down, there was a young redheaded woman crouched in front of one of the rooms, Kay recognized her almost immediately, “Morgan?”
The redhead looked up with tear-stained eyes, “Oh my God, Kay.” She ran up and gave the brunette a hug.
“W-what happened? We heard someone scream.” Kay asked. Morgan began to stutter franticly, “It’s okay, just take your time. No rush.”
“I-it was around five o’clock, s-so about an hour ago... I couldn’t sleep s-so I decided to get and go for a run around the gardens...” Morgan explained, “W-when I got back, I was about to open the door to m-my room w-when...” Her eyes began to tear up.
Kay handed her gun to Cameron and gave the younger woman a tight hug, “Hey, hey, it’s okay.” Cameron was impressed with how Kay was able to keep the young woman from spiraling.
“When s-someone... I don’t know... attacked me! L-like, they weren’t trying to kill me, i-it was like they were trying to do s-something e-else.”
Kay’s eyes widened as she pulled back from the hug, “Someone tried to assault you?”
“I-I think so...” She was calming down, “I didn’t know what else to do so I just screamed and then they ran away.”
“But you’re mostly okay?”
“Y-yeah, just a little shaken up.”
“Okay, you go clean yourself up, maybe get some sleep if you can, I’ll take care of this.”
“Thank you Kay-who’s this?” She asked pointing at Cam.
Kay realized, “Oh, this is Cameron.”
Morgan gasped, “Cameron Black? Is he your date?”
Cameron nodded to her, “I am, nice to meet you...”
“Morgan.”
“Nice to meet you Morgan, sorry it’s under these circumstances though.”
Morgan smiled, “Well, it’s just poor timing I guess. By the way, Tiffany wants all us all to wear something fancy for this morning’s brunch.”
Kay blinked, “I’m sorry, what?”
“She says she wants to take a lot of pictures and wants everyone to dress up.” Morgan shrugged, “By the way, have you tried on your bridesmaid’s dress?”
Kay gave a nervous laugh, “Yeah...”
“It’s... something right?”
“Oh yes.” She nodded.
“Well, I’ll see you too at brunch then.” Before Morgan went inside, “And thank you again.”
“Don’t worry. We’ll get to the bottom of this.” When Morgan went inside, Kay turned to Cameron, “Cam, can I have my gun back?”
“Oh yeah, sure.” He nodded handing the weapon back to her. He looked down at his clothing, “Kay?”
“Yeah?”
“We’re still in our pajamas.”
Kay looked down at her clothing, “Oh.”
Cameron smiled and took her free hand, “Come on, we might as well have a coffee and get ready for that wedding party brunch.”
Kay tried to ignore the heat she felt rising to her cheeks, “What about the attack on Morgan? I can’t just let-”
“I’ll call the team and see if they’d want to spend a day in the Hamptons, they could help catch this guy so you can enjoy the rest of this trip.”
“Thank you Cam.”
“Don’t mention it.” A little later, Kay was getting ready in the bathroom while Cameron was trying to tie his tie but he just couldn’t seem to get it right, “So Dina said that if all goes well, she, Gunter and Jordan should be here by half past one.”
“I hope you thanked them for me for coming all the way out here. I wouldn’t want to bother them.” Kay said as she finished up getting ready.
“Eh, it’s not that big a deal besides, it’d be good for them to get out of the city.” He replied still struggling with his tie.
Kay smirked when she came out of the bathroom and found Cam struggling, “Need some help with that?”
“If you don’t... mind...” Cameron lost his train of thought when he turned around and saw Kay. She was wearing a sky blue maxi dress with white flats and her hair had been parted to the right like it normally was. Now, Cam had seen Kay in formal wear before and thought she looked beautiful but here, there was something different. He wasn’t used to seeing her in dresses. What she was wearing was simple but she looked simply stunning to him. Although she always looked amazing to him.
Kay shook her head as she smiled at him, “So the Incredible Cameron Black can perform death-defying illusions but he can’t fix a proper tie?”
“Okay, first of all, it’s the Amazing Cameron Black and you know it,” Kay rolled her eyes as she finished fixing his tie, “Second of all, my brain only has so much room and I save it for my illusions.”
“Whatever you say Cam,” Kay let go of his tie and went and partly lay on the bed, her legs dangling off the edge, “Coffee not ready yet?”
Cameron lay down next to her the same way she did, “Nope.” Cam turned his head to look at Kay. They never really got a chance to spend quiet moments like this together, he liked it. In fact, he loved it.
Kay turned her head to face him, “What?”
“Kay, I gotta ask you something.”
“Go ahead.”
“What issues do you have with your family? I mean they all seem really nice and they seem to think the world of you.”
Kay took a deep breath, “It’s... it’s hard to explain... I love them and they are good people but... I don’t know...” She gave a slight chuckle, “You know when we were kids, during family reunions, Caroline and I would find ways to engrave our initials in one of the walls of wherever we were staying at, and no one ever found out about it.”
Cam smiled as she told him that memory, “Sounds like you and Caroline were a handful.”
Kay gave a sad smile, “We were, I guess...” She looked him in his sweet blue eyes, “You know, I’ve never actually told anyone that story”
He beamed at her, “I’m honoured.” He then turned on his side and propped himself up on his elbow, “So... is it Katrina?”
Kay furrowed her eyebrows, “What is?”
“Your full name?”
Kay let out a laugh, “You’re still on that?”
“Of course.” Cameron smirked, “I intend to learn as much as I can about you. Is it Kaitlin? Kaylor?”
“Kaylor?”
“Eh, thought I’d try it.” He shrugged.
“I’m not telling you Cam.”
Cameron sat up, “Oh... bad move Agent Daniels, bad move... I have ways of making you talk.”
Kay sat up as well, “Do you now?”
“Oh yes.” He smirked.
Kay noticed a spark of mischief in his eyes, “Cam... what are you-” She was cut off when Cam placed his hands on her waist and started to tickle her, “Ahh!” Kay started to laugh and in between the laughs she said, “Are you a child? You really think you-you can tickle the truth out of me?”
Cameron started to laugh along with her, “Probably not, but if it’ll put that smile on your face, I’ll do it!”
Kay continued to laugh, “Because it’s an involuntary reaction!”
Cam let go of her as they both fell on their backs again, their laughter slowly dying down, “Okay, okay. If you don’t want to tell me, I won’t push it”
Kay caught her breath as she looked, “Ha, I haven’t laughed like that since I was a kid.”
“Glad I could be of assistance... it’s good to hear you laugh.” He said smiling at her.
Kay smiled back at him. He always managed to make her smile in the most unexpected ways. Sure, he could frustrate her sometimes and even worry her but he always came through. It was what she really liked about him. Wait, no, it was what she loved about him. That’s when realization dawned on her. She was in love with Cameron. “Oh crap.” She thought to herself. She looked into his playful smiling eyes and sighed, “Kadence.”
“What?” Cameron was confused.
“My full name is... Kadence. Spelled with a K.”
Cameron raised an eyebrow, “Kadence? That’s the name you’ve been so secretive about?”
“Yup.” Kay nodded.
Cam nudged her, “It suits you.” Kay rolled her eyes, “I’m serious Kay. It’s classy, kinda elegant but still sounds badass. Although you’ll always be Kay to me, now I just know more about you”
Kay nudged him back, “You won’t stop until you know everything about me, will you?”
“Ha, no.” They then fell into a comfortable silence as they both just looked up at the ceiling. Their hands were just inches away from each other. Cameron slowly moved his hand until his pinky intertwined with hers. He was about to say something when the timer for the coffee pot went off, “The usual Kadence?”
Kay rolled her eyes again as they both stood up, “Thank you Cam.”
“Kadence Daniels... to be honest, you could have defiantly made a career as a magician with a name like that.” He said he poured her a cup of coffee adding the ingredients he usually puts for her.
Kay laughed that off, “I think I’m better suited to chasing bad guys.”
“Well, you are pretty scary,” He hands her the mug as he turns back to make his own, “In a good way.”
“Thank you.” She said, taking a sip of her much-needed coffee. About an hour later, they headed to the dining hall for Tiffany’s wedding party brunch. Cameron took hold of Kay’s hand claiming it was to keep up the act. Kay leaned over to Cameron and whispered, “Okay, so we’re going to play it like everything’s fine but keep an eye out to see if we can figure out who attacked Morgan.”
Cameron nodded, “My eyes will be open.”
“Kay! Cameron! Over here!” Tiffany called out. They were all sitting at a very large round table, Cameron and Kay sat down in the two seats that were available. Tiffany smiled at them, “Did you guys sleep well? You went to your rooms kinda early.”
“Oh yeah, I could tell Kay was kind of tired so I suggested we go to bed early considering these next few days might get a bit busy” Cam explained.
Tiffany nodded, “Oh, by the way. Kay, you remember my friends, Brooke, Octavia, Mimi and Morgan” She pointed to a light-haired brunette, a black haired woman, an Asian woman and the redheaded Morgan. Kay greeted them as Tiffany clapped her hands, “Okay, now that we’re all here, let’s take a look at this menu.”
Pierson raised an eyebrow as he looked through, “So Kay, how did you and Cameron meet?”
Kay furrowed her brow at the question; this was supposed to be about Tiffany and Harris plus she didn’t want to have the spotlight on her and Cam, “Uh, well, we met during a case.”
“What kind of case?” Tiffany asked, genuinely curious.
“Well, I was interrogating this drug lord on this parked plane and I had gone out to regroup because he wasn’t talking. Then smoke bombs started to go off and then the plane just exploded.”
“Except it didn’t” Cameron added.
“What?” Tiffany asked.
Kay explained, “It had disappeared.” Kay then went on to explain of how Cameron insisted he help with the case and how she was reluctant at first but he proved himself to her, “So... that’s pretty much it in terms of how we met... but enough about us. Tiffany, what’s the plan for today?”
Tiffany waved her hand “Oh, well, Harris and I have a few things to attend to today so you are all relinquished from your duties today until 6 o’clock, where we want you to join us in the lounge for some drinks and karaoke.”
“Karaoke?”
“And I hope you guys have a song you like to sing because it’s gonna be a duet competition! Harris and I will judge of course.” Tiffany went on to talk as they ordered, ate and eventually parted ways for the day.
As Cam and Kay went back to their rooms to change into more comfortable clothing for their little ‘stakeout’, Cameron spoke up, “You know I think Pierson has a thing for you.”
Kay turned to Cam in confusion, “What?”
“Well, think about it, he tormented you growing up, he tried to ask you out to dinner – just the two of you, I might add – and he hates me, which is very difficult to do because I am adorable. In some twisted way, he has romantic feelings for you.”
Kay raised an eyebrow, “That doesn’t sound very healthy if you torture the person you like.”
“Oh, it’s totally toxic but I just call it like I see it.”
“And just how would you know that that’s how he feels?”
Because I know what it feels like to be jealous. “I’m a good observer.” He winked. Kay rolled her eyes. They got back to their room when Cam got a text, “Jordan just texted me. He says that they should be here in about a half an hour.”
“Great. Want some coffee?” Kay responded as she came out of the bathroom wearing a maroon t-shirt with jeans.
“Sure.” Cameron replied as he took off his tie, “I don’t understand how some people wear these things all the time.”
“It does make a man stylish though.”
Cam raised an eyebrow, “Does it?”
“Oh yeah.” Kay said keeping her eye on the coffee pot, “Although, I do find your sweater and blazer combination quite interesting.”
Cam smirked, “Really?”
“Although I do wonder how you don’t boil in all those layers.” The coffee pot timer dinged and Kay was about to take the pot when Cam beat her to it, “Hey, I thought I was making you coffee.”
“You did.” He smirked.
“Oh come on, you know that it takes more than that.”
“You made. I pour.” He said pouring the coffee into two mugs and adding cinnamon in both, “We’re a team Kadence.”
Kay rolled her eyes, “Since when do you put cinnamon in your coffee?”
Cam shrugged, “I thought I’d try it. See what all the fuss is about.” Kay smiled to herself at that though that didn’t stop Cam from noticing. They sat by the table and drank their beverages in comfortable silence, stealing a glance at each other every once in a while and smiling when they made eye contact. Almost as if on cue, as soon as they both put their finished drinks down, Cam’s phone buzzed, “They’re here.”
Okay, so I’m splitting the days into two chapters now because this way, I can get more updates done for you guys and it’ll be easier for me because then I will be able to gather my thoughts and ideas much better. I didn’t realize just how much writing entailed when you want to include as much detail as you can and still be entertaining for your reader. So I hope you enjoyed the morning portion of Day Three, my writing load for this story has doubled yet it has lightened, I think you will be seeing another update for this one sooner rather than later.

LMRTV4U: Round 2
Welcome to the second edition of Let Me Recommend TV 4 U? This post was created especially for those lost souls who don’t know what to watch next. Also, this post contains NO SPOILERS. So proceed willy-nilly!
Best show you can easily catch up on: The Path
Tumblr media
It has recently come to my attention that this show is NOT being watched by everyone. Here’s the deal: Aaron Paul (of Breaking Bad fame, duh) stars as a happily married man who finds out the religion he was a part of is actually kind of a cult a la scientology. Michelle Monaghan is his wife whose family has deep roots in “the movement” and Hugh Dancy is an up-and-coming leader in the faith. It sounds hokey on paper but give it a chance. Maybe it’s my obsession with the Jean Valjean vs. Javert thing all over again but I love when a story doesn’t have a clear villain and when the sincere motives of opposing sides is so clear. Aaron Paul is totally justified in questioning his faith but his wife is also right to believe the “movement” is doing actual good. I love a grey area and this show is full of ‘em
Tumblr media
Where can I binge? Hulu- It’s a Hulu original and the first season (only 10 eps long) is available now! Season 2 is coming out as we speak with 1 ep being released per week.
Where to start? Start with season 1, episode 1 or you’ll miss
Skip it if: You’re cult-ed out after Going Clear and the Master and the recent revelation that Tom Cruise is probably responsible for a Trump presidency. http://theslot.jezebel.com/the-scientologists-voted-for-trump-1791558434
#1 reason to watch: The acting is amazing and Aaron and Michelle’s teen son “Hawk” is a Heath-Ledger-look-a-like with all the angst and sexual tension of Heath himself back in the 10-things-I-hate-about-you days
Best comedy that will also have you bawlin’:One Mississippi
Tumblr media
Tig Notaro stars in this semi-autobiographical series based on the time period in which the real Tig Notaro suddenly lost her mother, went through a breakup, was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent a double mastectomy, and then had a terrible, ongoing case of c.diff. Sounds hilarious, right? The real gem here is the slowly evolving relationship between Tig and her stepfather which is at times painfully awkward and painfully sweet. And it’s impossible not to imagine the cautiously flirtatious scenes between Tig and her now-wife Stephanie Allynne as re-enactments of their early courtship. (ps: the gif below is NOT from O.M. but still shows Tig and Stephanie together)
Tumblr media
Where can I binge? If you have Amazon Prime it’s on Prime instant video
Where to start? It’s a short series- only 6 eps at 20-something minutes apiece- start with ep 1
Skip it if: You’re not a Tig Notaro fan/ you just don’t like that whole deadpan-thing
#1 reason to watch: If you are a Tig fan, it’s amazing to get a deeper glimpse into this time period that seems to be the worst possible combination of circumstances. It’s a sweet reminder to know that life can get really, really, really shitty and while nothing can replace your loss, you can still find true love, have adorable twins, and do some of your best work as a performer.
Best British import: Fleabag
Tumblr media
Similar to One Mississippi, it’s on Amazon Prime, it’s a short 6-episode series, it’s a “comedy” which will leave you in tears (maybe now is the time to tell you that it doesn’t take much to make me cry so take all of this with a grain of salty tears), and it’s about a woman dealing with several recent losses and breakup. Fleabag is a BBC import based off of an award-winning play by star Phoebe Waller-Bridge whose titular character is irreverent, crass, over-indulgent and unexpectedly poignant all at once. It’s kind of like Shameless (but in this case Fleabag is more of a Frank than a Fiona) meets Girls. There’s also a bit of mystery wrapped up in there, too.
Tumblr media
Where can I binge?  Amazon Prime instant video
Where to start? Again, only 6 short eps so start with ep 1
Skip it if: You’re easily grossed out by a woman talking frankly about her bodily functions and sexual exploits. Also if you are in the mood for a comedy that WON’T make you cry.
#1 reason to watch: It’s way different than anything else out there and it’s an easy show to power-through in a few hours.
Best new sitcom (no, really!): The Mick
Tumblr media
I had my reservations, but I was pleasantly surprised! The Mick stars Kaitlin Olson (who you probably know as Dee from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) in her first major solo-endeavor. Dee has never been my favorite Sunny character, but this role is perfect for her brand of humor and gives her room to grow away from male-centric Sunny. The plot is a classic fish-out-of-water premise where Olson plays Mickey, an estranged aunt who suddenly finds herself as the guardian of her wealthy, East-coast-elite nephews and niece. Mickey is a hard-drinking, fly-by-the-seat-of-her-pants grifter while the Pemberton kids are coddled, country-clubbers. It sounds like sitcom 101 but trust me, it’s with a twist.
Tumblr media
Where can I binge? Hulu- new eps are coming out since it’s currently airing on Fox
Where to start? Since only a few eps are out, start with the pilot. But you can jump in anywhere
Skip it if: You’re over the traditional sitcom format or you’re easily offended by a bloody nose
#1 reason to watch: The 3 child (well one is an older teen) actors are all pretty stellar which really makes the show. Plus Olson is perfect in the role and is able to play a more layered character than Sunny has ever allowed.
Best show I really shouldn’t have to be justifying because just watch it: RuPaul’s Drag Race
Tumblr media
So if you’ve read my other LMWTV4U posts or you’ve ever met me, this will be the least surprising thing ever. BUT SERIOUSLY this show is so good and if this kind of thing is important to you, it’s a recent Emmy winner for best reality-TV-show host (RuPaul). But to call it a reality TV show is kind of a stretch because the actual best thing about RPDR is how manufactured and self-aware it is. There is, of course, heaps of drama, but everything is served with a wink. RuPaul comes sweeping in to provide a critical eye and guidance in each episode and always leaves the queens with her classic advice “good luck and don’t fuck it up.” Every episode ends with a “Lipsync FOR YOUR LIFE” which results in one queen “sashay-ing away” while the other gets to “shante you stay.” Somehow, among all of the ridiculousness, the show makes room for genuine emotion. The “villains” are eventually encouraged to explore their own insecurities and under-performing artists are given second chances and a helping hand from their competitors. It’s really not like anything else on television and the best part is, season 9 is coming this spring so you still have time to get caught up on past seasons before the new one arrives!
Tumblr media
Where can I binge? The show airs on Logotv, which you almost certainly do not have in your cable bundle, but seasons 5-7 are on Amazon Prime and last I checked seasons 6-8 were on Hulu (along with All Stars 2). Also most of the seasons are usually available to stream on logotv’s website.
Where to start? It might be hard to find but I’d really recommend starting with season 3 or 4. You can start anywhere but if you start in later seasons you’ll find out who won previous seasons which can be a bummer. Also, by season 6 and 7 there are already way too many inside jokes and catchphrases from previous seasons to keep up with. Don’t start with season 1 (it’s a completely different show) or All Stars (for obvious reasons).
Skip it if: You hate camp and kitsch and all things drag.
#1 reason to watch: Every single episode ends with RuPaul saying “If you can’t love yourself, how the hell you gonna love somebody else? Can I get an amen?” followed by an onstage dance party
Best season 2 that you might have given up on but deserves a second chance: Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Maybe you didn’t like Kimmy Schmidt season 1. Maybe you loved it but thought season 2 was too weird and gave up. Or maybe you loved both seasons and, in that case, why are you reading this still? But let me make my case for season 2. Yes it’s way more out-there than season 1, but it contains one of the best instances of my favorite guilty-pleasure of the TV trope world: the musical episode. It’s pretty subtle, but in episode 5, “Kimmy Gives Up,” Titus scores the entire episode with songs from various “forgotten” musicals (aka parodies of Broadway classics from husband-of-Tina-Fey and music producer Jeff Richmond.) My personal favorite is “Just Go On” from “Gangly Orphan Jeff, the ill-fated musical that premiered a week after Annie.” It hilariously mocks “The Sun Will Come Out Tomorrow” while also allowing for Titus to face his fears, Kimmy to begin to mourn her lost love, and for both Lillian and Jacqueline to revel in their parenting abilities (for their kids both literal and of the tenant-sort). Season 2 is less about a woman who missed the last 15 years clumsily learning to live in the modern world of a cartoonish NYC and more about a woman who’s been through trauma coming to terms with her past and trying to find her purpose. Season 2 is more lived-in and where season 1 allowed Titus to point out all of the “things people don’t say anymore,” season 2 finds both Kimmy and Titus bumbling through modernity together, like when Titus eagerly explains the internet as a “series of tubes.” Like my fave show of all time and fellow Tina-Fey-creation, 30 Rock, Kimmy Schmidt strikes a delicate balance between a satire of our society, foolish and off-the-wall characters, and characters facing real-world emotions with tenderness.
Tumblr media
Where can I binge? Netflix!
Where to start? I mean it’s a short series so start with season 1, ep 1. But if you need a good intro, start with “Kimmy Gives Up!”
Skip it if: You can’t handle all of the ridiculousness.
#1 reason to watch: Titus, especially in his audition that is NOT for gum, “Your teeth are bones that live outside. They hang from your lips like bats. Oh, outside bones, outside bones. Never forget that teeth are outside bones. They're bones that you wash and when you're a kid they fall from your head. And to make things less weird we say they got stolen by a demon that your parents know. Trident!”

Robotic Love - one.
Wattpad Link: https://www.wattpad.com/278520319-robotic-love-camren-one
“What about her?” Camila’s best friend Dinah questioned as she pointed to yet another girl that walked passed their table at lunch. “Oh! Actually, no. Becky Smart is definitely not the smartest decision.” She continued, making such an awful pun out of the girl’s last name. “Or what about…? Nah. Kaitlin Wheeler is as straight as a pole, which you’re quite the opposite of.”
Dinah was attempting to find her best friend the perfect date for their senior prom, which was only a few short months away. Being of the most popular girls in school, it was just a tad bit easier to find her friend someone to go with. Dinah had just about everyone in the school asking her out to the prom, so she planned on directing some of the women in Camila’s direction. Prom night was one of the biggest nights in their young lives, so Dinah insisted that everything needed to be perfect. According to her, prom would only be perfect if she and her best friend had a date. Apparently it was one of the most terrible things in the world to go to prom without someone. Camila didn’t agree, but this was all just to make her best friend happy.
“Dinah, I know that you want me to go to prom with someone, but I just don’t feel anything for anyone at this school. I want you to know that I don’t need a date. I’ll be much happier if I just went with you and whoever you choose to go with.” Camila told Dinah. She paused to think for a moment as she had noticed something. “Wait, who are you even going with?”
Her best friend let out a laugh, then answered. “You know, I still haven’t even decided. I’ve got so many options. Although, I think I’ve narrowed it down between two girls.”
Camila raised an eyebrow in interest. “Oh really? Do tell me who they are. You can’t leave a best friend hanging.”
“Well…” Dinah trailed off. “It’s a toss up between Ally Hernandez and Normani Hamilton. I’m struggling to decide because I don’t know if I want to go with someone sweet or spunky. Ally is just so cute and sweet, while Normani is rowdy and playful. They both have had my heart for a while, and now that they have both asked me, I just don’t know which one I’m going to go with. You’ve gotta help me, girl!”
Camila playfully rolled her eyes at her best friend. “I’d decide soon before they both find someone else to go with. You should know how it is Dinah. This sort of thing happens in the movies all the time. It’s a real thing, you know.”
“Don’t worry! I still have other options! Like… tons! Anyone would be lucky to go to the prom with me!” Dinah exclaimed.
“I wouldn’t get too cocky if I were you, Dinah. This whole thing could turn on its head if you aren’t careful. I’ll help you make a decision, if that’s what you want from me.” Camila offered her services. “Just be warned, I’ve never dated anyone before, so I don’t know how this whole thing works. You’ll be getting advice from someone who barely knows what they’re talking about.”
“Any help would do. Now let’s get back to finding you a date!”
Camila grunted, then continued to eat her lunch, trying to ignore anymore attempts made by her best friend to set her up with someone for prom.
•   •   •
“I’m home!” Camila shouted through her house as she shut the door behind her.
It was a long day at school, dealing with all of the stress that Dinah was putting on her about the whole prom date thing. Not only that, she had midterms to take all day. She thought that she had done well on all of her tests, but that was beside the point.
“Camila! How was school today?” Her mother asked her with a friendly smile as her daughter walked into the living room.
“It was fairly stressful, but all of my midterms are over and done with. Dinah was also trying to get me to find a date for prom again. Do you have any advice in regards to that? Did you have a date to the prom when you were my age?” Camila questioned her mother. She was always interested in her mother’s past since it had helped her so much throughout her own child and young-adulthood.
Her mother let out a sigh, then explained everything to her. “You’re forgetting that I didn’t grow up here in the United States, Camila. In Cuba, we don’t have a prom. Instead, we have a sort of graduation dance. But to answer your question about who I went with, that was your father. We’re high school sweethearts, remember?”
Camila recalled the memories of how her parents met and how they had stayed together since they first got together early on in high school. The pair had a very traditional love story, except for the part where some force had tried to break the two apart. Their relationship and the story behind it was near-perfect.
“Oh, that’s right!” Camila face-palmed, realizing that she had forgotten. “Well, anyways… Dinah says that it would be a mistake for me to go to prom without a date. I told her that I would be fine just going all by myself, but she insists that I wouldn’t be ending my high school career in a bad way if I were to do that. What do you think?”
“Don’t listen to Dinah! You can have the time of your life if you just do what you want to do. You’ve gone your whole life without being tied down to a man, or woman in your case. You do what you need to do in order to make yourself happy!”
Camila smiled at her mother’s advice. She knew that she was right about not needing a date to the prom. Dinah was probably just begging for her to get a date because she was all about her own image. If it weren’t for the friendship they had established in preschool, the two girls probably wouldn’t have even been friends. Their goals and their personalities were just too different. But that didn’t matter. Dinah needed Camila, and Camila needed Dinah, no matter how much the two tried to admit it.
“Thanks, mom! You always know exactly what to say.” Camila thanked her.
•   •   •
Knock. Knock. Camila heard the sound against her closed bedroom door. She was in the middle of reading an article about the latest technology, when she was interrupted by the knocking.
“Come in!” Camila shouted from her desk chair to the person that was hiding behind her door.
Almost instantly, the door flung open to reveal her dad standing in the door frame. He looked extremely excited about something, and it always thrilled Camila to see her family members looking so chipper. She wondered about what was making him seem this way, but she felt like she was just about to receive the answer.
“What are you up to right now? Are you busy with anything?” He asked her. “I’ve made a major improvement with Lauren, and I wanted to know if you were interested in coming to see it. It’s a really incredible breakthrough.”
Camila shut her laptop, then sprang up out of her chair. She had never stood up so fast for something in her life. It was just so exciting for her to be able to see something new in regards to technology. Sure she loved reading about all of the cool new stuff, but it was one hundred times better to see it for herself. Not only that, there was something so intriguing about her father’s android that she just couldn’t ignore. Lauren was by far Camila’s favorite out of all of her dad’s projects.
“I’ll take that as a yes!” He shouted, grabbing Camila’s arm in order to tug her in the direction of his office.
The father-daughter pair nearly sprinted towards the room where Alejandro kept all of his past works. As soon as they arrived to the room, Camila’s heart nearly skipped a beat at the sight of her dad’s newest project. It had been an entire week since Camila had seen Lauren, and it excited her to be able to see her once more.
“Well, Camila!” Her father began. “I’ve created a motherboard for Lauren that should allow her to be able to gain knowledge about her surroundings. For example, if I tell Lauren that the sky is blue, she will in fact learn that the sky is blue. Or, if you tell her what your name is, she will remember you based off of facial recognition. She is supposed to be able to learn our language just by being around us. It is almost as if Lauren is a new human being that is learning like a toddler does. Why don’t you give it a try, Camila?”
Camila nodded, then walked over to Lauren. She thought about what to say, then said it. “Hi, Lauren! My name is Camila Cabello, and my best friend is Dinah Hansen. I am the daughter of Alejandro and Sinuhe Cabello, and I have a sister named Sofia.”
“Good, now let me ask her something about you.” Her father said, taking a place in front of Lauren. “Hello, Lauren. Who is my daughter Camila’s best friend?”
“Your daughter Camila has a best friend named Dinah Hansen.” Lauren said in a monotone voice, which was something that Alejandro still needed to work to improve.
Alejandro turned to face his daughter. “See? Isn’t that cool? Now she’ll be able to recall that memory from now on. One of the differences between her and a human being is that she can always recall a memory, where humans often forget things. My next goal is to speed up the rate at which she recalls memories. I also have to do something about her voice, as it’s still kind of emotionless.”
The two were interrupted by the sound of her father’s cell phone ringing. He quickly checked to see who it was, then dismissed himself from the room to take the call. This left just Camila and Lauren in the room. There was complete and utter silence in the room, until it was finally broken.
“Camila Cabello. You are beautiful.” Lauren said in a slightly less monotone voice.
This caused her eyes to widen. How was Lauren able to come up with that sentence all by herself?

Well, I have really failed at writing this blog. I feel like the more stuff that there is to write about, the less I want to write. I don’t know if it’s because I’m overwhelmed, if I’m not that inspired, or our activities haven’t been that interesting… (K, I know it’s not that last one. We have definitely been up to some really fun stuff). There is a lot of cultural quirks in Japan that I really want to talk about, but I feel guilty that I haven’t written anything here. Oh well. I’ll try, eventually…
Did you know that Japan has 4 seasons? Well, you may be thinking “uhh, Kaitlin, everywhere has 4 seasons”. Well you aren’t wrong. Japanese people are very proud of their 4 seasons and it can be kind of an awkward conversation. Like, how do you respond? “Oh, really? Wow! That’s amazing! I have no idea what that could be like~”. What I think they mean is that they have festivals, events, food and traditions associated with each season. They seem to have a meaning behind each of them.
Spring is when everything is new. Students start school in April, the cherry blossoms start to bloom, and the weather starts to warm up. It is their chance to start over (sort of how we view new year’s). People are getting new bosses, changing schools, starting University, etc.
Summer is incredibly hot here. It is very humid and people are basically sweating the entire day. I’d say that most of the festivals in Japan take place in the summer. The students have nearly an entire month off for summer holidays and about 3 weeks in the winter and 2-3 weeks in the spring. Fireworks are especially popular in the summer here.
Fall is almost the opposite. Again, it’s a change. The new trimester of school starts in September. The leaves change colour and eventually fall, which I’ve heard some people think represents life. This is a big time for vegetables to be in season. There are many festivals and food stands that are selling sweet potatoes and chestnuts.
Winter is seen as a time with family. Insulation is not so great here, especially in older buildings. Because of that, families gather under the kotatsu (a heated table with a heavy blanket on top) and eat nabe (a very delicious soup with many vegetables). They have many events around New Year’s. Then, they celebrate all of their “firsts” of the year. They have their first temple visit, first sunrise, first dream, etc. They look back at the year that had just passed. Unlike in the west, were we tend to forget the last year and plan the next year, they seem to think about and reminisce about what happened in the previous year.
Well, anyway, that’s what I’ve gathered by just observing, I could be way off.
Okay, maybe you remember where I left off. Last summer, Pat’s parents came to visit us. (Yes, I’m THAT far behind… I know, I know). So, let’s start with Fall!
Fall
At this point in time, we were out of Kyoto and living in our new place in Kawasaki. We weren’t here for too long before we started exploring. I think that the summer weather lasts a bit longer here than it does back home. I don’t think that the leaves started changing colours until mid-November or so… The first place we went to was Takao Mountain. It wasn’t too difficult to get to from where we live.
So, I learned some interesting Japanese words for fall.
Autumn – aki (秋)
Autumn leaves – kouyou (紅葉)
  Mt. Takao (高尾山)
When we were in Korea, we did a fair amount of hiking. I don’t know why, but we really haven’t done any in Japan (other than Fuji…). There are definitely many mountains to climb, so we have no excuse. I guess in Kyoto, we didn’t have time. Now, we do have time, but it has been winter the whole time we have lived here. Those are my excuses.
For our first climb, we really didn’t give it much of a chance. When you go hiking, even if it’s a small mountain, you should go early. We left pretty late in the day. I’m fairly sure that we arrived to Takao station around 2:30. That’s right. 2:30 in the afternoon.  [Also, before you start thinking that my memory is so amazing, don’t be fooled. My camera and my phone puts a time stamp on the photos so I just look at the photos to figure out when we arrived and such.]
The mountain wasn’t too far from the station and was clearly marked. It was really muddy when we arrived, so we were a bit worried. Anyways, when we got there, we saw that they had a chairlift and a gondola that went up a good portion of the mountain. Since it was so late, we decided that it would be a good idea. We took the chairlift so that we could have a nice view on our way up.
Felt pretty safe all the way up
such vivid colours!
I tried to capture the many colours
The view was great in real life. Unfortunately, it was behind us.
Once we got off the chairlift, we started our hike. I think we started around 3pm. It was incredibly busy in that area, but seemed to clear out the further up we climbed. It was quite muddy for a while, but there were some stones that you could stay on that were much better. The problem was that people seem to hate moving over? Like a group of 5 people would seriously walk together, side-by-side and take up the entire path. Me and Pat would be forced onto the muddy path (single file, might I add) so they didn’t run into us. Rude right?
Goodness, this place had a lot of stairs. I don’t know why, but I love photographing stairs. My photos never turn out how I want them to, but I still love them. Stairs and tree caves are my weaknesses.
Spoiler: These are all the stair photos from the entire hike.
Okay, sorry, let’s continue. So, the hike was really easy. Not really a hike at all, to be honest. Other than the muddy parts that people essentially drove us into, the path was paved for the most part. There were lanterns up the path, so I think that hiking at night would also be a fun option.
The mountain was a bit colder than the temperature at the bottom, obviously, so as we ascended, we saw more and more snow. The air was a bit chilly, but it wasn’t bad.
Tumblr media
To our surprise, there were temples not too far from the chairlift. I suppose that most people were going to see these, since the crowds thinned out past this point. But, to be fair, it was pretty late haha.
Temples and shrines do start to all look the same after awhile, but they are still stunning. There were also some souvenir shops and food stands.
One of the stands was selling something called ‘dango’, which is essentially three rice cakes on a stick. These dango were interesting because they are slow roasted over coals. It was kind of funny because about a week before that, my students were writing about different places in Japan and a few of them mentioned these interesting dango-cooking method! So random. They weren’t talking about this mountain, so it was pretty surprising to see this food that they were talking about.
We weren’t hungry yet, so we didn’t stop. I was just excited.
This temple and shrine area was pretty big so we explored around there for awhile before continuing up.
quite a bit of snow, especially compared to town
awesome detail
It was quite nice and worth checking out. Since it wasn’t too far from the chairlift, it would be an easy day (or evening, haha) trip. I believe this area also had an onsen (hot spring) and I wish we could’ve went into that. We decided to continue up the mountain. From that point forward the roads were not really paved and pristine. There also weren’t any lanterns or anything like that.
We could see some snow peeking through the trees
I can see the summit!
The further we went up, the more snow there was and the colder it got. It was kind of nice because we didn’t get heated up from hiking.
We reached the top at 4:30 so it was obviously not a difficult or long hike. There wasn’t much at the top actually. There was a nice view of the town and if you’re lucky you could see Mt. Fuji on the opposite side. It was a bit late and foggy so we couldn’t see Mt. Fuji, unfortunately.
Mt. Fuji is out there somewhere…
I think we were kind of lucky with our timing actually. We were able to see the day view and the night view.
The way down was a bit more difficult than the way up, but only because it was dark. I got my dango treat (luckily they were still selling them), but I didn’t take a photo. Sorry. They don’t look that interesting. The way down was sooo dark. We didn’t take the chairlift since it was soooo busy. They line up was huuuuge. We decided to just walk down. Well, warning, the path from the chairlift to the bottom is not lit up. It was so freakin’ dark. We had to use the flashlights on our phones haha.
Tumblr media
I don’t remember if this was before or after the dark path… sorry!

Okay, the next Fall adventure I want to talk about was a guided tour that we went on in a town called Hakone.
Hakone/Odawara (箱根 / 小田原市)
So, our work sometimes gives us opportunities to go to events, go on tours, or get packages that are English friendly. It is quite nice since usually many events are in Japanese only. Personally, I think it isn’t really worth paying extra money to go on a tour or attend an event in a language you don’t understand. Like, I could go on my own. I would get the same experience essentially.
Okay, that’s not always true. I think that guided tours/tour groups are especially great when the destination is hard to get to or would be a hassle to book in Japanese.
In this case, the tour we took was definitely unnecessary, haha. Well, for the most, I’ll get into it later. It cost us 2,100 yen each. The cost included the tour guide, lunch and a map.
According to the invitation, we went on Dec 4, and met the tour group at 10:30. We met at a really small train station in the middle of nowhere, so it was kind of an interesting start to our journey.
Tumblr media
To get to this station (if you want to replicate our journey) wasn’t too difficult, but since not necessarily easy either.
Odawara Station is pretty easy to get to. You can take the Tokaido line all the way there. Honestly, I have no idea if that line goes through Tokyo or not, but I’d imagine so. From there, we had to locate the local train out to Hakone.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It wasn’t bad. I swear the biggest difficulties with transit in Japan is whether or not you need to take the local, express, limited express, etc. My tip to you, is follow the times on Google maps. For example, if the time says 10:24, look for the signs that say 10:24 next to the destination. It isn’t too common for there to be multiple trains leaving at the same time.
Okay, back to our tour.
Tumblr media
There weren’t too many of us in the group. They split us up into a few groups. Our first stop was a small shrine across the railroad tracks. You can’t see in the photo above, but to the right, there is a set of stairs that goes over the tracks.
It was pretty small, but pretty cute. The tour group lady told us a whole bunch of stuff that I can’t remember (see what I mean about it not being worth the cost? I don’t even pay attention!). We washed some money, which is supposed to bring good fortune. So far, it hasn’t worked.
I’m not sure if you can tell, but it was a beautiful day. It wasn’t hot by any means, it was still December, but it was sunny.
Tumblr media
After the small shrine, we crossed back over the tracks.
Because of the sunshine, the coloured leaves looked absolutely breathtaking. I took about 2039483098 photos, but none of them look like they did in real life. Isn’t that the way it always goes? sigh.
Again, the tour lady told us a lot of stuff while I was off taking photos and ignoring her, apparently. oops~
It’s not my fault! The beauty!

Anyways, our next destination was a traditional style Japanese hotel (called a ryokan in Japanese). I can’t remember much, but I do remember that it was super old. It was almost like a museum in some ways. We had to walk along a road without a sidewalk to get there. The scenery around this hotel was so beautiful.
The one redeeming factor of paying for the tour guide was that we were allowed in the hotel and were able to look into the rooms, check out the onsen, and we got to eat the hotel’s food.
Tumblr media
The name of the hotel: ichinoyu
Tumblr media
Their website:  http://www.ichinoyu.co.jp/honkan/eng/
So, by a quick look at their website, this hotel was founded in 1630! Holy moly! It was pretty cool to see the old style. The rooms were pretty nice. Some had an onsen/hot tub on the deck outside of the hotel room. When I asked about the price, I think it ended up being around $120/night. Maybe next fall or winter we will stay there.
The meal we had was quite traditional and really delicious. Traditional Japanese food can be kind of hit or miss, but this one was really good. I feel like the fee we paid was worth it just for the meal.
After we finished eating, we walked along the narrow road to a place called Kannreidoumonn. On the way there, we had some pretty great scenery.
It was a tunnel that I don’t think is in use anymore. I can’t remember if the guide said it was built to protect from landslides or if it isn’t in use because of that or what…. She did mention a big earthquake. This is why I should write these closer to the time that I go.
Sorry.
Although, are any of you here to learn anything? If so, man, you came to the wrong blog.
Our next destination was another hotel. This time, it wasn’t to look at the hotel, but it was to look at it’s garden. The hotel’s name was Yoshiike Ryokan. If you want to check it out, here’s the website: http://www.yoshiikeryokan.com/ .I don’t know if this is open to the public or not. If it isn’t, then I take back everything I said about the cost.
We walked through the town, that was also known as onsen town. This area of Hakone has a lot of onsen. Well, actually, I believe there are only a few sources that many hotels feed the hot water from. I’m no expert…. obviously…. so, who know?
Okay, so the garden at this hotel was so beautiful. I am going to just spam you with pictures:
Gross… I will neeeever get used to the freakin’ spiders here. Gross.
After the garden, the tour guide let us on our way. In other words, the tour was over and we were left to find our own way home haha. It was fine because we actually wanted to explore on our own anyway.
That was all for our Autumn adventures. I’ll talk to you in 0239483 years to talk about winter!
Until then, here are some more photos!
hungry fishes
so hungry! Sorry buddies. I have no food for you….
The 4 seasons of Japan – Autumn Well, I have really failed at writing this blog. I feel like the more stuff that there is to write about, the less I want to write.
