Chapter 6: The Island Where Snow Lives! Climb the Drum Rockies!
(episode 83)
"I will definitely get you there. Don't die, Nami, Sanji!"
"Ahhh! Please look at that! We found them, Wapol-sama!"
"Uh oh."
"Hold it, brats!"
-
"Huh? You guys're-"
"How dare you do many rude things to me! I'll chew you guys up!"
"Get out of our way," Luffy ordered bluntly.
"Humph!" Wapol scoffed. "You're stupid, aren't you? Why would I get out of your way?!" He then noticed their two friends not moving a muscle. "Looks like what you have on your back, and in your arm are half-dead." Without a word, they merely started going around them.
"Hold it!" Chess ordered.
"Oh, I know! Chess! I thought up a new law," Wapol announced, "Write this down."
"Yes, sir!"
"Those who ignore the king are to be executed!" Luffy and Venus still didn't notice, as they kept going, the latter yawning. "Ignoring me already?! Guys! First, get the sick and injured ones, who are ignoring me the most!"
"Yes, sir!" Chess and Kuromarimo leaped down together, finally gaining their attention.
"What'd you say?!" Luffy glared.
They sprinted over, and jumped in the air. "I'll take the woman on his back!" Chess claimed.
"I'll take the man! Take this! Marimo's Surprise!" The afro on his fist quickly grew spikes, but Luffy and Venus managed to dodge, now running.
'Listen, Luffy!' Sanji's words from earlier rang in his mind. 'Don't you dare fight.' Venus' words soon followed. 'Whether you attack, or get struck, Nami will get hurt too!'
Now furious, he shoved away the urge to fight back, and ran faster with the young witch. "Damn you! You'll regret this! Don't follow us!"
Chess had an arrow ready to fire. "Humph, what cowards. It's no use."
"Luffy!" Venus exclaimed, and they dodged the onslaught, not stopping even a little bit.
"I'll show them," Wapol vowed, "What a battle in a snowy area is like."
Through his sprint, Luffy looked behind Venus' back. "Huh? There's no one. What's going on?"
"They must've given up," Venus remarked, before turning to the front. She gasped at a giant set of jaws open right in his path. "Luffy!"
He jumped back when Wapol snapped down. "Now this is a true battle in a snowy area!" Kuromarimo smiled evilly, another spiked afro fist ready. "The white disguise! Snow Powder Makeup!"
"Since they're so weak, they'll be dead with just one shot." Chess drew back another arrow.
"Check Mate!" They both charged in.
"Stop it!" Luffy screamed in fury. But to their shock, a pair of Lapins jumped in, and whacked the two enemies away! "White bears...?"
"No!" Venus gazed in awe.
"Lapins?!" Wapol exclaimed.
Kuromarimo sat up. "Did they protect him?"
"It's a coincidence," Chess replied, "Lapins never become attached to humans."
To Luffy's surprise, one of them had a baby on its back; it was the one he had helped out earlier! "You are..." They flexed their arms in response, making him smile. "Thanks! You saved us!"
"Thank you!" Venus waved, as she ran after him.
"Don't let them get away!" Wapol ordered.
"Yes, sir!"
Before they could move any further, their path was blocked by a whole pack of Lapins, every which way. "What the hell do they think they're doing?!" Wapol raged, as Robson hid behind a tree.
-
During their trek, the wind was starting to pick up, as they trudged through the deeper snow. "Doctor," Luffy groaned, still determined to reach the castle, "Doctor." Venus' breath shivered as much as her small body, pigtails blowing in the wind, as she hugged herself tightly. "Doctor." In front of them, a pile of snow was blown away, revealing a rocky, vertical wall. "So this is it."
"T-the D-Drum Rocky," Venus stuttered through her teeth chattering.
"I can't see the top," He commented, "We can find the doctor... up there." He looked over at Nami. "Hang in there a little longer... Nami! Sanji!" He tightened the knot around his waist, and grabbed Sanji's coat with his teeth.
"Luffy, let me carry Sanji up!" Venus ordered. "You can't lug them both up all that way at once!"
"Yes I can," He resisted bluntly, "You're not strong enough."
"B-but I-"
"I'll be fine. Worry about getting yourself up."
She sighed in defeat, and nodded. "Okay."
With that, they both started climbing, Luffy unfortunately lacking gloves and shoes. He powered through the freezing wind, as did Venus, and the pain in his fingers and toes; Nami and Sanji were the top priority. His coat blew off of his back, and disappeared down below, but it was ignored.
-
On lower ground, Vivi was half-buried in shallow snow, out cold from the sudden disaster. "Avalanche," She muttered when coming to, and pushed herself up. "We were swallowed by the avalanche. Ah! U-Usopp-san?!" She turned around, and saw a familiar nose poking out of the snow. "Usopp-san!" She pushed the frozen fluff away, to reveal his blushing, delirious face. "Usopp-san! Come on! Wake up!" To her relief, he let out a groan. "He's still alive! Usopp-san! Hang on!" She pushed the excess snow off of his body, and pulled him out, by his nose, the rest of the way. "Come on! Usopp-san!" She patted his cheeks. "Usopp-san!"
"Oh, Vivi... don't wake me up," He muttered, "I was just having a beautiful dream. A field of flowers out of this world, and a beautiful river, and- Oh?"
Vivi tried again to keep him awake, now panicking. "You're almost in the netherworld!"
"Isn't that Zoro swimming in the river? Venus-chan? She looks so beautiful."
"Wake up! Don't sleep! Wake up!"
He suddenly screamed in terror, before relaxing again, as she shook him by his shoulders. "All 74,000 Usopp Pirates, close in!"
"No! Wake up! Usopp-san, don't die! Usopp-san!" As a last resort, she began slapping him repeatedly, and frantically. "Usopp-san! Usopp-san! Usopp-san! Usopp-san! Usopp-san! Usopp-san!"
-
"Phew, you saved me, Vivi," He walked along behind her after regaining consciousness. "Talk about having a narrow escape from death. I'm glad I'm alive. But... don't you think my face is kinda swollen?" From her excessive, panicked clobbering, his face was swelled up to three times its normal size, and covered in bruises. He also had a slightly black eye, and a bit of a nosebleed.
"I-it's chilblains! Chilblains!" She fibbed.
"My head feels kinda heavy."
"This is why it's not easy to be in a snowy area."
"Or should I say my view is kinda narrow. Won't this scare Venus-chan?"
"They'll go down by then. More importantly, we have to figure out our location, and the situation we're in quickly!"
"My lips are kinda big. Kinda. Yeah, I agree."
When Vivi stepped on a big mound, it suddenly began to rise, making her fall back. "Ahhh!" Usopp screamed. "What's that?!"
Turned out, it was a shirtless, shoeless Zoro! "Ahhh, that was close. I saw a field of flowers," He shivered, "Suddenly hitting an avalanche in this cold... I must've run out of luck. But this is sort of a winter swimming, I guess."
"Zoro," Usopp addressed him.
"Hm?" He turned around, and saw two familiar faces. Or, just one. "Oh, Vivi." He then noticed someone standing next to her. But who was it? "Huh?"
"Hm?" Usopp stared back in irritation.
After several seconds, he finally recognized him, to his chagrin. "Oh, it's you, Usopp! What're you guys doing here?"
"That's my question!" They both shouted angrily.
-
"Doctor...!" Luffy strained to keep going, as Venus climbed alongside him. "Doctor...!" He started to feel tired, but pushed through. Nami and Sanji needed help! "Doctor...!" Suddenly, his fingernails broke, causing blood to spurt out. "Ah! Ow!"
"Luffy!" Venus screamed, as Sanji began falling. She tried to grab him herself, but wasn't fast enough. "No!"
"Sanji!" Luffy launched his head down, and just in the nick of time, grabbed his coat with his teeth again. "Th-that... that was close." Venus let out of a sigh of relief, before continuing the trek.
-
"Winter swimming?!" Usopp exclaimed, his swelling now gone.
"Yeah. After swimming in the river for a while, I had no idea where I was anymore. So I was walking while doing muscle training, and then I ended up in a forest."
"Dressed up like that?" Usopp squinted at him. "You're stupid, aren't you?"
"Anyway, give me your coat, Usopp," Zoro demanded.
"Fat chance."
'Nami-san might've gotten sick due to mental exhaustion,' Vivi guessed to herself.
"Then your shoes!" Zoro argued.
"No!"
"One of them!"
"No! It's your own fault, isn't it?!"
"Look over there!" Vivi stopped their argument. "There're people."
"Hm?" Usopp looked, and saw not only two separate groups of people, but familiar rooftops sticking out of the snow. "Hey, I remember those buildings."
"What?" Vivi glanced around, and she too, felt deja vu. "You're right! This is Big Horn! We ended up... coming back!"
"Step back! Step back!" They noticed a horde of men in uniform coats with guns, keeping citizens away. "Dalton is already dead!"
"There's no way Dalton-san would die from an attack like that!" One of the residents protested.
"You guys're Dalton-san's ex-subordinates, aren't you?! Don't you care?!"
"We're retainers of King Wapol! If you become Wapol-sama's enemy, you're dead meat!"
"Hey, what's the matter?" Zoro approached the citizens.
"Wh-what's the matter?" The closest man turned to him, and was shocked at his lack of shirt and shoes, much less coat. "What's the matter with you, dressing like that?!"
"Dalton-san's buried under the snow of the avalanche!"
"What?!" Usopp gawked.
"Dalton-san is?!" Vivi frowned in concern.
"Yeah. We can't dig him out, because those guys got in our way."
"Step back! Step back! If you have any objection, go right ahead, and bring it on!" The soldier laughed mockingly.
Zoro gazed at him in recognition. "Usopp, I remember their clothes. They're the ones who attacked us on the sea, right? Right?!"
"Yeah, that's right."
"Then they're our enemy, aren't they?"
"Huh?"
"They're our enemy, right? What's the word? Are they on our side?!"
"Well, they're our enemy," Usopp replied worriedly, "But why are you so...?"
The soldier continued to taunt them. "You aren't so courageous without Dalton, are you?"
To everyone's shock, Zoro knocked him out with a single punch. "What?!" Vivi's eyes widened. "Mr. Bushido!"
"Who's that?!" Another soldier glared.
"Hey, you! Stop it!" A resident urged nervously. "If you attack them, you'll..."
A now laughing Zoro was wearing the coat and gloves of his defeated adversary. "This is warm! I'm borrowing it!" He beamed with satisfaction.
"You... asked me because of that?!" Usopp exclaimed with exasperation. "Look! They're angry!"
"You! You were on the ship, with that guy who blew Wapol-sama away!"
"Oh?" Zoro turned to them with a devious grin. "You guys never learn, do you?" They all charged in, but when they passed him, three soldiers were suddenly missing something. "Are you guys looking for... these?" He suddenly wielded two swords, and stuck a third in his mouth.
"Bring him down!"
With his newly stolen weapons, he took them all out with ease. "Hawk Wave!" He smiled after the last one fell. "Oh, it's already over?" He stuck the swords in the ground. "What a disappointing bunch."
Everyone witnessing gawked in awe. "Amazing," Vivi whispered.
"All right!" Usopp exclaimed. "Good job, Zoro! Just as I instructed!" He claimed.
"Let's find Dalton-san!"
"Yeah!" Now unrestricted, the residents filed over to dig him out, passing Zoro along the way. "Thank you!" He watched them silently, as they grabbed shovels. "Hurry up! Dig everywhere!"
Zoro turned to Usopp when he rejoined him. "So, what's all this fuss?"
"I'll explain it later! Let's help them!" He and Vivi ran to assist in the digging.
"Dalton-san! Please be alive!"
-
"Doctor..." Luffy continued climbing, bearing through the increasing pain. "Doctor... doctor..."
Venus gaped in horror when he slid down several feet, leaving bloody trails on the mountainside. "Luffy!"
He felt his strength start to deter, but he pushed it away, and began climbing back up. "Hang in there. We're almost there. Don't you die on me!" Blood trickling down his limbs, he climbed up with all his might.
From the harsh climb, the fingertips of Venus' gloves were starting to wear out. Inevitably, when she grabbed on, she slid back down, her fingers suffering the same fate as his. "Ahhh!" She screamed in pain, leaving shorter trails, before quickly tightening her grip on the mountain with a loud grunt.
"Venus!" He shouted through clenched teeth.
"I'm fine!" She cried. "Keep going! I see the top!" She groaned loudly, as she forced herself up, blood staining the insides of her coat sleeves. "Come on!"
They both pressed on through their agony, inching closer and closer to their destination. After what seemed like forever, as Venus collapsed in exhaustion next to him, Luffy finally let his sore jaws rest, so the cook flopped down in the snow. They both looked on, before her eye drooped shut; before them was the huge, majestic castle they spent hours trekking to. "We made it," He breathed, "Doctor..." Fatigue taking over, he finally fell into sweet unconsciousness.
But they didn't realize that they were on a loose mound of snow, too close to the edge. It gave out under their weight, and they were sent falling; however, a hulking, furry, blue-nosed figure wearing a pink hat reached down, and grabbed them both, saving them from a deathly drop. After pulling them up, he brought them all inside the castle.
-
"Doctorine, the antibodies are responding."
"Yeah, I figured that much. Then, what's the cause? Explain."
"Kestia."
Kureha took a bottle out of the cabinet. "That's right. Kestia. You attend the redhead."
"Okay."
In the one bed, Nami started to wake up, and noticed her new surroundings. Where was she? Upon hearing strange footsteps and scraping, she averted her gaze, and saw a small, furry creature with antlers and hooves stirring something in a bowl, while standing on a stack of books on a chair. He jumped down, and she saw his face, as he blinked his large, beady eyes. She sat up in curiosity. "Who are you?"
He jumped back in fright, knocking the books off the chair, and stared warily, before hiding in the doorway... somewhat. To her confusion, he only hid one side of his face, leaving almost his whole body still in sight, as he never took his eyes off of her.
