Peter B admitting to Miles that the non stop tragedies and losses shaping their stories are hard, harsh, and , knowing they can do something about it, cruel even. Then saying the GOOD aspects essentially outshine them. But that's not true. That's a classic toxic positivity line, used to justify shitty, unequal politics. " But at least we have this one good thing" WE CAN HAVE THAT GOOD THING AND NOTHING ELSE. WE AREN'T MADE TO BE IN PAIN, AND PAIN SHOULDN'T MAKE A HERO.
What Miguel doesn't understand is they don't owe the world suffering.

You know how in some continuities Orion Pax and Megatron really didn't know each other before the war? And usually that's where OP is just minding his business when suddenly Megatron and his revolutionaries just happen to swing by where he is working as a laborer... and he ends up dying/being near-death and brought to Alpha Trion to be reformatted/recieve the Matrix of Leadership?
Yeah... who wants to pair that with the stories where Orion Pax and Megatronus were friends but tragically end up on other sides of the war?
Here's what I propose:
Orion Pax and Megatronus become friends over their shared interest in philosophy and their concerns over the safety and wellbeing of their fellow Cybertronian. They are minor celebrities to those who follow Megatronus' continual rise in the Pits.
The government sees them as dangerous revolutionaries on the verge of igniting a movement that could stand to ruin everything the high-castes greedily covet. But what can be done? Obviously both sides have their staunch supporters, but how to sway the remaining general populace?
Clearly their doctrine and censorship isn't stopping the spread of information. But that shouldn't even matter; in the past, all they had to do was disincentivise the public from even noticing what happened around them. In time, the citizens of Cybertron could be cowed into submission once again, given they take the proper course of action...
The government decides to make an example of these revolutionary leaders.
This is easier plotted than executed, as Megatronus and his closest posse have been expecting assassination attempts for quite some time... it's nothing new to them. Orion longs for a day his friend may relax and go about his day without expecting death around every corner...
There is no point in meeting in secret, as Megatronus and his gladiator companions have tracking devices on them anyway. No, Orion always meets his friend at the transport station, where they walk and chat all the way to the gladiator's quarters.
Only, on this particular day, he doesn't even finish greeting Megatronus from across the walkway before he experiences a great pain. The greatest pain he has ever felt. There is panic in the fields of those around him, and he feels himself fall as everyone else runs away. Why can't he run away??
The last thing Orion sees before he shuts down for reboot is Megatronus' shocked and aggrieved expression as he tries to run towards his prone frame, only to be stopped by policemech.
Then next time he awoke, he was no longer with Megatronus. He was no long Orion Pax. He was... Optimus Prime.
And it turns out, stellar cycles had gone by... and in that time Optimus found he could no longer recognize the mech he once called friend. Megatron was on such a rampage, on a quest for violence, that he had lost sight of what their revolution had been about... lost sight of himself. And so Optimus decided to face him, in the hopes of talking/knocking some sense into him...

popping in real quick to say I really love your "I love her/love her not" chapters! as much as I enjoy Al's antagonism with characters like Vox and Lucifer, his friendships with women in the series are sooo interesting to me. it's nice to see your take on how he (and Mimzy!) both struggle with their preconceptions of their time period and heteronormativity in general
Aw, thank you so much! Yeah, part of the reason I really wish we got more character-building episodes is that with Alastor in particular we see a lot of hints of him wildly different approaches to his relationships depending on who they're with, and I think that while he's definitely often antagonistic as hell in his relationships with men, he specifically is much less so with most of the women in his un-life. I remember watching Dad Beat Dad and going, "Wow, I can't believe Alastor is the first person we've seen set a good example for drawing a normal and healthy relationship boundary..." when he asked Mimzy to leave.
Like, compare how he snapped at Husk, who was actively trying to look out for him, for just saying a smarmy thing that Alastor is touchy about, vs. all the shit Mimzy did and the damage she knowingly caused... only for Alastor to not only, with full and stated understanding of her intentions and their consequences, still let her use him for her own protection, but then to be visibly pissed off and still clearly center himself and make the deliberate choice to be polite and honestly kind of kind in how he asks her to please head out.
And she's still fucking upset about it! The way Mimzy behaves in turn during that entire interaction is telling as well, because it's really obvious to me that it's not just her being a bitch for the hell of it. She very clearly did not expect him to draw that boundary and found him doing so shocking in a way that she took personally - and why wouldn't she? He's apparently been actively enabling her to rely on him in this way for literally their entire relationship. "But you love taking care of me!" is not a line that feels to me like she's putting words in his mouth, it really feels like that's what he's purposefully led her to believe, because 1) she's his dear friend and 2) he enjoys being a powerful individual that people rely on.
Anyway. That turned into a whole tangent, hahaha. I'm glad you're enjoying it! I desperately want to see Alastor interact with people he genuinely considers his friends more often, and I want to see how it compares to how he interacts with the people he's growing to care about a lot less willingly.

Sketch of my second progenitor! She is a Fae turned Gaoler through magical means. In FR lore, fae dragons express tone via their frills, and as such they speak in very monotone voices, making them hard for other breeds to understand. My thought on the humanization equivalent of this (it's a stretch) is her appearance became totally different and also she totally lost the muscle memory to use a form of fae sign language; it's a trade she did not take lightly when she agreed

I know nothing about fae but I wanna write a story where a neglected little kid runs away into a forest and encounters some fae who decide to take them into their realm and care for them but the kid knows the rules of the fae and tries to be nice and play along but never gives their name so the fae just give them a cute nature/magical nickname
