Mermaids were a rare thing to survive meeting. Rightfully so, considering most sailors only ever encountered them when they were sinking to the depths, all hope of seeing dry land again dwindling quickly. The one Cal found himself in the presence of on this miserable night was indeed a beauty, with golden locks floating in a halo around his head. Just as well. The captain figured that if it was his fate to drown, he’d rather his last glimpse of life be a handsome fish man than a hungry shark or eel.

Christ, the man could almost be mistaken for an angel!

If angels bore muscular tails covered in glimmering scales.

Cal’s breath ran out soon after he became transfixed. He could feel the saltwater rushing through his mouth and nose, filling his lungs. This should terrify him. It did, sort of, but the beauty of the mermaid compelled him to remain calm. He could not fight anymore. Didn’t really want to. He was too far gone, anyway. Deeper and deeper he sank, his vision and other senses fading away just before he felt strong arms wrapping around his torso…

trigger warning: thalassophobia. dark, ocean. Horror art (?)

i tried to draw something scary but it looks more like an acrylic painting, which is not scary tbh.

my personal opinion on why horror art is so popular . Do forgive me, i think horror is easier to draw than anything else. because the artist doesnt have to draw too many details, viewer’s brain will do the rest for the artist , by making up horrifying details and even more.

also less details can easier envoke feel of uneasiness and fear or depression.

Not to mention horror is easier to surface and to create. it is more premanent and stronger in human mind. than positive and moving stories. Scaring person is easier than to help them believe.

i may be wrong of course. and i do not intend to diminish artist’s effort. i was talking more about myself.
