Okay, so the idea is basically:

EJ's mother survived, but she was very injured.

She was put in witness protection, while Jack K was put in Foster care.

And she had to live, knowing that her baby was alive - but she couldn't even know how they were.

Finally, when Jack's around 17, she's given an address, and taken out of witness protection.

And Anna-Claire Kingsley knocks on the door to a house larger than ever she could have dreamed of.

Here's All the Melting Thrill (And Here's the Kindling Fire): Outlander, Jamie/Claire, modern AU, a complete retelling of S1 in modern form. Plenty of me giving into my more dramatic and long-winded instincts, but I like a lot of my prose here and hey, firefighter!Jamie + nurse!Claire feels like a winning combo. 14 chapters, 114k, complete.

things left behind and the things that are ahead: MCU, Steve/Peggy, post-Endgame, comprehensive series of vignettes about Steve and Peggy's life together, featuring lots of different POVs and OCs. I love these guys with my whole heart and - despite a few duds in there - am really happy with this universe that I created. 43 chapters, 128k, complete.

Homemakers: MCU, Steve/Peggy, Steve and Peggy learn to cook together and it's just sweet and good fun and the flow is really nice. This is what I think of as sort of emblematic of my oneshot style. 1 chapter, 1.3k, complete.

So That You Will Hear Me (my words sometimes grow thin): MCU, Steve/Peggy, First Avenger but what if Steve and Peggy had been telepathically connected for their entire lives. Other than the twins, I have Anna Pham and the other members of COD Aces- the Graves family. (2nd gen)

We have Jack, the eldest from Phillip's first marriage who was supposed to inherit the Shadow Company, Phillip Jr. who's the youngest born after his twin sister and is more soft, Graves' daughter Claire who would eventually become the lobbyist on behalf of SC and inherit her dad's manipulative tendencies, and finally,

Tommy. Formerly known as Sylas Graves, he eventually found out what his stepfather (whom he looked up to) did to his mom and became resentful, changing his name as soon as he turned 18. Joined the Marines but somehow ended up in the Shadow Company, and only stays to protect his brother Junior from his dad and from his older brother's insecurity about his position when Tommy is named heir.

The infighting of ACES comes to a head when Junior is captured by Konni and Anna disappears, with all siblings forced to work through their family bullshit to deal with the Zakhaev Twins and other threats that come their way.

I'm very impartial to Tommy. As for Anna's story, I'm always down to explain it, with most of it in my masterlist.

Are you one of those writers for whom the character is basically a whole separate person who lives in your head, or are they actually something you get to create and mold as you desire? How connected to your characters do you get while you’re writing?

I create them and mold them to the point where they're "molded" enough to BECOME a whole separate person in my head if that makes any sense. And then they kind of take over from there. This isn't 'necessarily a slow process: it can actually happen fairly quickly if the character turns out to be particularly strong. To the point where if someone sends an OC question, it's not really me answering, it's just me asking the character, them answering, and me transcribing.

Granted, some characters don't get to that point. But that generally means they weren't very strong characters to begin with and it's probably for the best.

And you know me, I don't get too connected to my characters. Just to the point where we're breathing in and out in the same rhythm and our hearts are beating as one. 🤷
