It occurred to me last night that Columbo really is the best detective
A lot of TV detectives (Midsomer Murders, Death in Paradise, Poirot to name a few that are guilty of this) solve the case because their friend/partner/spouse says something that makes everything click
Columbo? He has a little forensic help, but he hounds the suspect, re-examines the crime scene, does a bunch of legwork & research, and works it out himself
