Maybe I ship obikin/vaderwan romantically and maybe I don't ship obikin/vaderwan romantically but y'know what, as a person who got INVESTED in the drama that is Vader/Anakin and Obi-wan's whatever the fuck, courtesy of the new Obi-Wan Kenobi show, I'm going to keep using those terms because I don't know what else to call them. Obi-Wan and Anakin, I legit don't know what they are. They're just so much. I don't know how to define what they mean to each other. It literally - I don't have vocabulary for it. Is it platonic, is it romantic, is it brothers, is it soulmates, is it family, is it friends, is it enemies, is it loving the other so much that you have to destroy them, is it hating the other so much that you have to let them go, is it whispering a name across the universe, and is it him reacting to the call across lightyears, is it knowing after ten years that you will still be the only person in their view, is it obsession, is it indifference, is it pain and regret and guilt and anguish, and is it forgiveness and hope and nostalgia and absolution?
Yes. It fucking is all of it. I can't shove them into one specific label and say, yeah it fits perfectly as only that. So I don't know how else to describe them except with a portmanteau. I literally do not. If I only saw them as platonic, nothing romantic whatsoever, I STILL would describe them with a portmanteau. Anything else feels too weightless. It's hinted at that they're a force dyad. What am I supposed to do with that? Die, I guess.

I love how this final episode of Obi-Wan went down because it makes so many interactions in the Original Trilogy so much better.
“Help Me Obi-Wan Kenobi, you’re my only hope.”
Leia isn’t just reaching out to some old war buddy of her dad’s. She’s reaching out to her friend Ben, the man who saved her life and helped her start the journey from a simple princess to a Leader. She knew they had to stay away from Obi-Wan to keep them both safe, she when she’s reaching out in A New Hope, it truly is their most desperate hour.
“When I left you I was but the learner. Now I am the Master.”
Obi-Wan trashed Vader, like fully came back from having three tons of rock dropped on him to lifting an asteroid field worth of rocks and hurling them! Vader was so beaten, he couldn’t even go after Obi-Wan. Nine years later, he feels he’s ready to be the Master. And what’s ironic is that Obi-Wan still knew better, even in death.
Owen and Beru!
They loved Luke soooooo much! Owen came off as grumpy in ANH but here you see that he is a man with a hard life but he cares so kriffing much for Luke. Beru had rifles hidden in the wall, waiting to protect their child. They sprang into action with no hesitation.
The whole thing was so satisfying…

Hold up, Obi-Wan kenobi Spoilers below:
Each of these episodes has some sort of relation to the Skywalker Saga:
Part I, takes place on Tatooine, The Phantom Menace takes place on Tatooine (vague I know)
Part II has a busy bustling city where they are being sought by bounty hunters, Attack of the clones has Obi-Wan and Anakin searching for a bounty hunter in a busy bustling city
Part III Obi-Wan meets Vader and gets burned, Revenge of Sith sees Obi-Wan meet Vader and Vader burns
Part IV of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Episode 4 of the Skywalker Saga both center around Leia getting rescued from the Empire….
If that’s not poetic cinema idk what is
Also begs the question, will Part V and VI follow a similar pattern??

Can I just say that how the duel with Obi-Wan and Anakin was handled in terms of their aging was perfect? I don’t care if they’re older. THAT IS FINE BY HECKING ME.

Everytime I think about that moment when Obi-Wan is told that all he needs is time to heal, to which he said "some things can't be forgotten" - and remember that the score that played when Anakin and Obi-wan were sparring in that memory is of the same name - I go a little fUCKING feral.
When I say that soundtrack by William Ross was PERFECT for that scene - how it's sweetly nostalgic, majestic and kind of sad in the beginning. And then the beautiful gradual build of tension in the music as the duel starts and Anakin and Obi-wan start circling each other.
Because while my initial reaction to that line when I first watched the show was "yeah fair he witnessed the slaughter of everyone he ever cared about so, that'd be damn hard to forget", now I can't help but take it as sorta confirmation, since the quote was used as the name for that piece set in the older, happier sparring memory, that Obi-wan is not necessarily talking about the rise of the Empire, or what Anakin did.
Instead Obi-Wan is struggling with being unable to forget Anakin as a whole - in that horrible way where you know what you had is dead and gone and over and yet all you can remember, playing on loop, is all the ways you had loved this person, and all the ways you had been loved by this person. When Obi-wan knows he shouldn't still love Anakin after what he's done - but he still does (which is confirmed in multiple novelizations).
The trajectory of Obi-Wan and Anakin's lives had been so impacted by each other that even now there is no going back from that change.
And so when Obi-wan says "some things can't be forgotten", I really do believe he's thinking just of Anakin - his former best friend, the other half of a life, his life - and knows that even the worst type of betrayal imaginable won't be enough to cut free.
And so it's confirmed in a later episode. Sometimes you really can't forget. Ever. (But of course "you can fight to make it better". And so Obi-wan does, for Luke and Leia. Remembers Anakin as he was, and in the way Obi-wan sees him in his children)
Think of THAT while you listen to the soundtrack and remember how happy they looked during the beginning of the sparring memory and tELL ME YOU DON'T WANNA HAVE A MENTAL BREAKDOWN
