Spider-man Headquarters designs I did for Across the Spider-verse. The top one got approved but there were some changes to 2099 world after I left so what ended up in the film is different. Still cool tho! We were pulling a lot from architect Burle Marx in those early stages for Nuevo York. And a hard time nailing down the market aesthetic.

BLOOD OF MY BLOOD II

Leitmotifs in Across The Spiderverse.
Let's talk about how the music of Across The Spiderverse tells us more than what might be obvious. Spoilers for both movies from here on out: you've been warned.
EDIT: added in one more very important instance.
For those who don't know or need a reminder, a leitmotif is a musical signature associated with a character, an idea, a situation, or some or all of those things together. And for the first Spiderverse movie, Daniel Pemberton made excellent use of at least two big ones.
To see what I mean, check out this video. If you haven't already. It highlights how music helped tell the story of Into The Spiderverse.
While this video exclusively covers the leitmotifs in the soundtrack of ITSV, once you know what they sound like, you can hear their inclusion in ATSV.
For instance, Miles' personal leitmotif (that ties together the themes that makeup Miles-as-a-person's journey) shows up both times he attempts to tell his mother that he's Spider-Man.
But the Spider-Person theme, in particular, is all over the place in ATSV. This is fitting, considering it features so many Spideys. Not only is it front and center in Peter B.'s theme and is hiding out in Gwen's, Pavitr's, and Hobie's themes, it demonstrates how Miles-as-Spider-Man has developed between movies: playing throughout My Name is Miles Morales. It's one of the first things we hear when we see the young hero again.
This is an evolution from before, as for most of the first film, the Spider-Person motif plays incessantly for the other Spiders but sparingly for Miles. Whenever it was used for him, it was to show he'd reached a new station in his learning and growth. It plays for him when he first thwips away from Doc Ock and intertwines with his personal theme during his leap of faith to show that he's finally become Spider-Man.
So to have multiple iterations of the Spider-Person leitmotif jammed into the song that plays when we first see Miles again shows how much he's grown.
However....the other places it plays in the movie can give us clues about the nature of the conflict between Miguel's Spider Society and the newly formed Spider-Band. To illustrate this, I want to talk about three specific moments where it's prominent in the soundtrack.
During Nueva York Train Chase, Miguel busts out of the train like a horror movie monster and calls after the younger Spider: "Who do you think you are? Really!?"
Miles answers: "My name...is Miles Morales. I was bitten by a radioactive spider. I'm pretty sure you know the rest, jerk!" He then proceeds to drop, kick Miguel in the face, and then nail him with a ball of webbing.
This is around 2:05 of Nueva York Train Chase on the official ATSV soundtrack by Daniel Pemberton. What do we hear after Miles declares this and then (temporarily) eludes 2099?
The Spider-Person leitmotif.
It's not much later that we hear it again. When? At about 2:25 in the track The Go Home Machine. When Margo Kess, Spider-Byte, decides not to interfere with the titular machine and keep Miles in Nueva York.
This moment is critical. Miguel is trying to stop Miles. Even if the machine doesn't take him home, it gets Miles out of the older Spider's clutches and gives him a chance. And when he gets away, what plays? The Spider-Person leitmotif. The music tells us that at this moment, in trying to escape and save his father and not halting his escape, Miles and Margo are acting like Spider-People.
The music is on Miles' side. The music tells us that Miles is acting like Spider-Man by resisting the Spider-Society. He's doing the right thing.
And on top of that, what do we hear after 2:35 of Start a Band? The moment where Peter B. looks outside and sees Gwen waiting for him? The Spider-Person leitmotif. It tells us that in taking Hobie's watch and gathering her band together, Gwen's acting like Spider-Woman.
It then plays over and over again until the credits role. The music is telling us that the Spider-Band's mission marks them as Spider-People. They are living up to the title. They are doing the right thing.
I don't think the music is the only thing in the movie that points the audience to that conclusion. There's also a lot of subtext, meta, and suspiciously little information about how Cannon Events and the multiverse generally work. But this is one of the simplest ways the movie tells us that Miles and the Spider-Band are in the right.

I’ll Buy You A Pony
Tumblr media
Pairing(s): Miguel O’Hara x Fem!Black!Reader, Miguel O’Hara x Fem!Afro Latina!OC (familial)
Notes: So I recently found out that our beloved Miggy has Equinophobia, or in other words has a fear of horses. I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to write about it! Besides that, I wrote this while I was half sleep and I didn’t feel like proof reading so please keep that in mind. I hope y’all enjoy!
Warnings: Fear of horses, a few annoying friends, Miguel pees on himself in front of all of you, biting (from the horse), children, sabotage, two grown yet childish idiots, passing out, profanity. Let me know if I forgot anything!
From the moment Janina was old enough enjoy anything, she’d loved horses. Her favorite show was my little pony, her first word was pony, and her favorite bathing suits have all had some form of a horse on them. She was obsessed.
When she’d asked for a Pony for her sixth birthday, you knew it was a no go due to her father’s equinophobia . What you didn’t know is that when you declined her request, she’d asked your parents the exact same question.
The two of them love their grand babies with all their heart. With the amount of money they have, they buy them everything they want within reason.
On a normal day, they’d never think a horse was a reasonable gift. But for a birthday? Heck yeah!
“NiNi, we have a gift for you, love.” Your mother spoke, pulling Nina into her lap.
“Really, Nana?” Nina asked, a small smile adorning her tanned face, “What is it?”
And when your dad walks into your large backyard, pulling a small horse next to him, all hell breaks loose.
Nina’s eyes light up and she leaps from your mothers lap, running her way over to her grandpa and the horse. “Wow, a real life horse! Mommy, daddy, come look!”
Miguel looks at you and frowns a little. You give him a look before turning back to your daughter and her newfound best friend.
“Daddy’s legs hurt a little right now, baby. I’ll come meet your pony.” You tell her.
You pat Miguel on the shoulder before walking over to your daughter and the pony.
“What are you gonna name her, baby?” You ask.
Janina huffs. “She’s a boy, mommy! You should never assume!”
You laugh at her slip up before apologizing.
“I’m sorry, baby. What’s his name?”
“Mommy Jr.”
“Mommy Jr?”
“Yeah!”
“But what about Sparkle? Or Stud? Maybe even Flashlight?”
“Well Uncle Johnny said I should name him Mommy Jr!”
You whip your head around to face both of her Uncles that go by that name.
There was Jonathan, your brother, and Johansen, Miguel’s friend from who knows where. Both of them shared a similar personality and were always getting your daughter into trouble.
“Which one of y’all idiots told my baby to name this horse after me?”
Both of them looked at each other and then back at you before bursting into laughter.
“You can’t lie, n/n. He kind of looks like you!” Johansen admitted.
“Yeah,” your brother joined in, “Y’all both got that grown man look going on for you.”
You continue to argue with the two, not noticing your father and Janina walking over to your husband. They pull him out of his seat to the side of you furthest from the horse.
“Aww, Miggy.” You look at him, quickly cleansing your mouth of all the curses you had aimed at Jonathan and Johansen. “It’s okay, we won’t let the horse eat you. Come here.”
Miguel allows you to drag him in the middle but he still squeezes himself tightly against you.
“How can I ever be a man if my six year old daughter finds out I’m afraid of horses?” Miguel whispers in your ear.
You turn to face him. “It’s a phobia, baby. Everyone is afraid of something.”
“Who do you know that’s afraid of horses?” He asks, raising an eyebrow.
You don’t answer, only prompting to shush him and get him to loosen up.
“Time for a picture!” Your mom speaks. Your dad hands Nina to Miguel and he puts on the most realistic smile he could manage.
Your mother peaks at you all from behind the the camera and smiles. “On three, say Mommy Jr!”
She begins to count up from one, but right before she says three, Miguel squeals and tries his hardest to jump onto you.
“Cielo, cielo!” He yells, gripping you tightly.
You look at him worriedly. “What’s wrong?”
“He bit my pants!”
You look behind Miguel at the miniature horse who obviously can’t take a hint and nudges your husbands leg once again.
Miguel gulps loudly and looks down at the horse who—unfortunately for him—was staring right back at him.
Miguel shrieks and runs to the other side of you, away from the horse. The horse seemed to be in a playful mood and decided to follow Miguel wherever he went.
Eventually, your daughter grew tired of the run around and jumped from her father’s arms, running over to sit with her uncles. Your party guests watch in amusement and you try to block the horse from your husband.
To your surprise, the horse got around you and approached your husband. He passed out, and both Johnnys stood to their feet, looking over the table at your husband.
“Damn! That nigga scared of horses!”
A few hours later, Miguel blinks his eyes open, squirming uncomfortably as he adjusts to his surroundings.
“Babe!” You squeal, running over to the hospital bed. “You’re okay!”
Miguel side eyes you. “I recall being in the presence of a horse?”
“Um…” you rub the back of your neck. “Yeah.”
“Why was the horse chasing me?” He asks.
“Dumb and dumber put some apple slices in your pocket.”
Miguel frowns.
“If it makes you feel any better, I cut Jonathan’s wicks and put nair in Johansen’s shampoo. You know how crazy they are about their hair.”
Miguel chuckles a little and scoots over to the right, patting the spot next to him. You squeeze in there with him and rest your head on his shoulder.
“Besides that,” you start, “you had a panic attack and it was pretty severe, I guess. They said you’ll be free to go today, but they also had a few extra notes for you. You’re better off hearing it from a doctor.” You start to sit up. “I can go get one if-“
“No!” He protests, grabbing your arm and pulling you back into him. “Stay with me for a little.”
“Okay then.”
“Did I worry anyone?”
“Nah, everyone was too busy laughing.”
“I passed out and people were laughing?”
“You kind of…” you take a deep breath and prepare to answer him, but a doctor walks in to check on him and notices he’s awake.
You promise to tell him later.
Bonus:
Ever since the doctor interrupted your earlier conversation with Miguel, his curiosity had been eating away at him. What happened to him? Why was everyone laughing?
He walks to the bathroom door and knocks on it.
“Baby?” He speaks loudly through the door.
“Yes?” You yell over the stream of water coming from the shower head.
“What happened to me when I passed out?” He asks nervously.
“We will discuss this when I get out.” You respond.
Miguel huffs before stomping his way to Nina’s room where she lay on the floor playing with her Shopkins.
“Nina?” He asks, taking a seat next to her.
She looks up at him. “Yes, daddy?”
“What happened when I passed out?” He asks, picking up one of her dolls.
“Oh, you peed.” She says casually.
His eyes widen. “I peed?”
“Yeah!”
Miguel gulps. “W-was it noticeable?”
Nina raises an eyebrow, confused by the big word her father had used. “What?”
He rephrases his question. “Could people tell that I peed?”
“Oh, yeah!” Nina giggles. “It was really bad. Mommy had to throw away your pants and uncle Johnny took a picture of you.”
Miguel chuckles, thinking his daughter was joking, but she only blinked at him.
“Why are you laughing daddy? I’d want to run away if I were you.”
A lightbulb goes off in Miguel’s head at his daughter’s words. He kisses her head before running back to you in the bathroom.
“We are moving to Mexico.”
“Boy, get out my bathroom!”

Spiderman 2099
(short action story)
Summary: Spiderman gets into a street fight with a villain
(spoiler alert: he wins)
Warnings: Violence
Tumblr media
In the bustling metropolis of Nueva York in the year 2099, Spider-Man 2099 swung through the cityscape, a beacon of hope for its citizens. The futuristic skyscrapers gleamed with neon lights as he gracefully maneuvered between them. People below marveled at their iconic hero, inspired by his unwavering dedication to protect the city.
Spider-Man 2099 quickly leaped into action, landing gracefully in front of Mattermorph. The villain sneered, reveling in his newfound powers as he transformed nearby debris into dangerous projectiles. Spider-Man's enhanced senses detected the surge of energy emanating from the core-pin and analyzed the possibilities and limitations of Mattermorph's abilities.
Amidst the urban chaos, a disturbance rippled through the air, grabbing Spider-Man's attention. From seemingly thin air, a new villain emerged, wielding the power to manipulate matter. Known as Mattermorph, this unpredictable creature could reshape objects and elements with the energy harnessed from a core-pin on its chest.
Spider-Man leaped into action, landing before Mattermorph. The villain sneered, relishing in its newfound powers. It transformed nearby debris into dangerous projectiles, testing the limits of Spider-Man's abilities. With his heightened senses, Spider-Man analyzed Mattermorph's power source and anticipated its moves.
The battle ignited as Spider-Man evaded the onslaught, his advanced suit augmenting his agility and reflexes. His web-shooters whirred as he unleashed a flurry of webs, aiming to immobilize the formidable villain. But Mattermorph proved relentless, countering with its matter-manipulating prowess.
With each blow, Mattermorph retaliated, molding the environment to its advantage. Streets cracked open, lampposts contorted, and vehicles morphed into deadly weapons. Spider-Man utilized his web-slinging expertise, navigating through the chaos, and countering Mattermorph's attacks with precise strikes and cleverly constructed web traps. Yet, the battle intensified, pushing both combatants to their limits.
Buildings trembled as Mattermorph unleashed its full range of matter-manipulating abilities. The fabric of reality twisted and distorted with the villain's boundless power. Spider-Man knew he had to devise a new strategy to overcome this formidable foe.
In a desperate move, Mattermorph hurled a massive boulder towards Spider-Man. Swiftly swinging into action, the hero redirected the projectile using his webs. However, Mattermorph had a surprise waiting. It swiftly crafted a puppet out of brick and debris, launching it at supersonic speed towards the back of Spider-Man's head, shattering upon impact.
The double attack disoriented Spider-Man, leaving his senses entangled in a knot. Struggling to regain focus, he fought against the throbbing pain. His movements became sluggish, and his spider-sense faltered. Seizing the opportunity, Mattermorph closed in for a final strike, sensing imminent victory.
Yet, Spider-Man's indomitable spirit refused to surrender. Drawing upon his reserves of strength, he relied on instinct and muscle memory, honed through years of training and experience. Adapting his fighting style to compensate for his impaired senses and the unpredictable environment, he flowed with the battle, countering Mattermorph's every move.
Summoning a final surge of energy, Spider-Man disarmed Mattermorph, removing the core-pin from its chest. A cry of frustration and pain echoed from the defeated villain. But Spider-Man pressed on. With precision and determination, he delivered a decisive blow to the exposed core, severing the connection to Mattermorph's power source. The villain crumbled to the ground, defeated and powerless.
As the battle subsided, Spider-Man's head throbbed with pain, a testament to the toll of the fight. His suit, battered and torn, showcased the intensity of the encounter. Without wasting a moment, the hero swiftly secured Mattermorph in a cocoon of webbing, ensuring the villain's capture.
With the city now safe, Spider-Man swung away from the scene, a mix of exhaustion and satisfaction
