Several First Nations and environment advocates are criticizing a decision by Canada’s nuclear regulator to greenlight a proposed nuclear waste site near the Ottawa River. The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission has, following an environmental assessment, authorized construction of a waste facility on the site of the Crown-owned Chalk River Laboratories, which tests nuclear technology in Deep River, Ont., about 180 kilometres northwest of Ottawa. The site sits within a kilometre of the Ottawa River, on the traditional unceded territory of the Algonquin Anishinaabeg peoples.

"You grow up readin' about pirates and cowboys and spacemen and stuff, and jus' when you think the world's all full of amazin' things, they tell you it's really all dead whales and chopped-down forests and nuclear waste hangin' about for millions of years."

Thanks to the Wikipedia article on Long-term nuclear waste warning messages, lots of people know the "THIS PLACE IS NOT A PLACE OF HONOR" quote, but it occurred to me to look up the original document that it comes from, the 1993 report "Expert judgment on markers to deter inadvertent human intrusion into the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant," by Trauth, Hora, & Guzowski of Sandia National Laboratories... and the whole thing is pretty fascinating.
Specifically, the famous quote and the pages above all come from the sub-report by "Team A," consisting of Dieter G. Ast (Cornell University), Michael Brill (Buffalo Organization for Social and Technological Innovation), Maureen F. Kaplan (Eastern Research Group), Ward H. Goodenough (University of Pennsylvania), Frederick J. Newmeyer (University of Washington), and Woodruff T. Sullivan, III (University of Washington). "Team B," I was surprised to notice, included astronomer Frank Drake (creator of the Drake Equation for estimating the changes of contacting extraterrestrial life).
The diagrams of possible construction options look a little bit like architectural plans, but also quite a bit like Dungeons & Dragons environment designs... and perhaps like the ruined architecture of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

So you know how people are trying to figure out how to keep future humans from accidentally finding nuclear waste?
Most people have been thinking of making signs with pictographs that convey a sense of unease or depict radiation escaping from a hole or have a scared human face or something, and a few people have suggested just making the nuclear waste very difficult to access etc.
But these two guys went absolutely crazy:
According to Wikipedia:
“French author Françoise Bastide and the Italian semiotician Paolo Fabbri proposed the breeding of so-called "radiation cats" or "ray cats".[11][12][13][14] Cats have a long history of cohabitation with humans, and this approach assumes that their domestication will continue indefinitely. These radiation cats would change significantly in color when they came near radioactive emissions and serve as living indicators of danger.
To transport the message, the importance of the cats would need to be set in the collective awareness through fairy tales and myths. Those fairy tales and myths in turn could be transmitted through poetry, music and painting. As a response, the podcast 99% Invisible commissioned musician Emperor X to write a song about ray cats for a 2014 episode about long-term nuclear waste warning messages.[15][16] The song, called "10,000-Year Earworm to Discourage Settlement Near Nuclear Waste Repositories (Don't Change Color, Kitty)", was designed to be "so catchy and annoying that it might be handed down from generation to generation over a span of 10,000 years".”
So. Geiger counter cats. And inventing an entire folklore about the Geiger counter cats. And intentionally making a Kars for Kids esque earworm so annoying that it will not be forgotten for 10,000 years.
May I present humans.

I'm sincerely fascinated by everything related to long term nuclear waste storage warning systems. Like if they made merch I'd be SO hyped up about it.
Like if they made a funko pop like this:
