(i love playing with various branches of scarebat inside my head. even if it's one-note idea. but in this current bit, i was thinking about a core view on certain things, that most of their versions have in common. mainly the difference between jon's n' bruce's outlooks on how they picture 'ideal' encounter between one another. or more so, what the best outcome of it might be. what their 'great end game might look like.
bruce *for the most part* wants to believe in reabilitation. in a change for the better. it's possible to tame n' domesticate a wild crow. it might not change its habbits fully, but it's possible to make the bird less harmful *to smaller animals as they do feed on them* by keeping it happy and fed. by nurturing it into state, where it'll be mostly comfy with getting food by less extreme means. n' where it might trust you to not to harm it or stop giving it food. while, i view this set-up from a perspective of a shipper, i also can see gen approach here as well. mostly, bc i don't think that bruce would have ever left any of his *potentially ex* rogues fully unsurpivised. esp someone with history like crane's. batman is too much of a control freak to not peak into his villain's personal affairs, even if just to make sure, that they haven't went back to crime. him befriending / having a chance to impose influence on a troubled, malevolent 'crow via smth other, than use of force would have been a nice change of pace. batman is pragmatic, but i love how he doesn't ever fully dismiss the idea of 'what if', n' desire to see his rogues improving themselves. but at the same time, usually, he's the one who puts said crow back into cage *arkham*, so there is that too. he wants to do the right thing, but the bird keeps glaring at him through the narrow bars, bc it doesn't get why must it be caged for hurting n' killing other animals, when they *totally* picked on it first.
now, jon would have almost an oposite view of this, i imagine. where bruce can picture a second variant, another *brighter* path, crane kinda just cannot do the same. from his pov, there is no way for batman to ever become a villain. somebody who would team up with him. so they can't be 'together' this way. there is also no way for crane to ever get onto batman's level. esp bc he doesn't want *can't* change this drastically. therefore, the only way to keep the bat in his possession is to lock it up, trap it n' hold it in a little metalic box. hide it inside his basement, bc so many other people would love to have the bat too. he doesn't want to clip its wings, but part of him is paranoid enough to consider it. he has no idea how else to make a wild bat stay. it doesn't listen to him, like his birds do. but crane will take good care of it, anyway. make it dependent on him. caged by him, n' no one else can steal it away this time.
maybe, this reads as gibberish to some, but i really love how both bruce n' jonathan have animal analog / name in their aliases. bruce's is more apperent, bc well, batman lol. he even dress up as this. crane's case is more subtitle, but still, the scarecrow. even if he supposed to scare said birds away, he keeps them as pets as offten as we see bats hanging inside bruce's herocave lol. those animals also suit their personalities to a degree. the only other animal, that i can see crane as be a possum lol. sharp teeth, always hissing, long rat tail, but despite the ragged apperance, they are the only mamal that cannot get rabies bc of their body temperature, even tho by looking at it, you'd think that it surely would have that disease, haha. that's kinda very crane. he tends to subvert expectations, but in a strange ways.
an' well, where bruce can step down to extremes, n' i don't mean putting crane's scawny ass back into asylum, i mean also consider other methods of keeping him declawed. including trapping him inside his cave / basement. still, i feel like for jon's those said extremes are default line of thinking. socially inept, distrustful n' lonely, it would make sense for him to assume, that he can only co-exist with batman, if he will lock him up n' be the only one, who has a key to his prison. generally, it always seems that while jon's views on things n' his way of persiving / feeling affection are twisted, it's also pretty sad too. technically, he doesn't have any frame of referance here. of affection, that is returned n' not played as a joke at his expense. an' being humilated by the bat in such manner would sting way harder, than his high school crush rejecting him. he'd also would have that yandere u-turn. but not in like 'if i can't have you none one has'. more like 'i really want to have you, so i'd do every terrible thing in the book to make it possible'. well, almost 'every'. i feel like there be things, that jonathan *most versions of him, anyways* just kinda won't do. he does have some class, after all.
overall tho, i do love jon as that needy 'creep' archetype *which is pretty much a canon in old comics too*, who would kidnap / do awful things to a guy he likes, simply bc he has no idea what else he can do with him. at most times, he's that meme of 'idk how to hit on him, so he has to die'. meanwhile, bruce thinks that if you feed a stray bird enough, it might consider staying or well, not being as troublesome as it usually is.
in some timelines, this even might work out, who knows.
less so jonathan's side of things, since i feel like he would end up screwing his own plan over. i even have a lil drafty thing for a fic with similar premise, but it's for some other time. atm. just lil art, while i'm working on bigger things, haha. gotta store all these bits / concepts somewhere, so that i don't forget that they exist.)

Kaiju Week in Review (June 25-July 8, 2023)
I picked a bad time to skip a week lol
Ultraman Blazar, the 35th entry in the Ultra Series, has made the scene. Episode 1 throws us right into a battle between humanity and a space monster. Blazar's the pushy type, all but forcing Gento to transform, but he doesn't speak Japanese—just yowls. For now, that makes him the show's central mystery. The show's defense team, SKaRD, won't actually form until the next episode, at which point we should have a better sense of it. But I'm intrigued so far.
Free streaming TV service Pluto TV has added a Godzilla channel. It boasts, or should soon boast, all of the Japanese Godzilla films minus King Kong vs. Godzilla and Shin Godzilla, plus Rodan, all the Mothra movies, The War of the Gargantuas, Godzilla (1998), and Godzilla: The Series. A Blu-ray.com user has composed a detailed rundown of the versions of the films used—short version, nothing we haven't seen before apart from a few small changes.
I got to see Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken before its official June 30 release date thanks to Regal's Monday Mystery Movie series. I guess I didn't retain much memory of the trailer, because it surprised me how early in the film the title character first grew into a kaiju. I can't give it an especially enthusiastic recommendation—comparisons to Luca and Turning Red are inevitable and don't flatter Ruby at all. But I get a kick out of seeing kaiju in such alien territory as a hyperactive animated kids' movie, and they continue to show off their flexibility as metaphors (Ruby is plainly neurodivergent). 7 outta 10.
Nimona dropped on Netflix the same day, and that's one anyone reading this column should sprint to watch. It saves its kaiju for the third act, and I've held off on posting much about that part of the story yet, but trust me, Ishiro Honda would be proud.
After years of lackluster Gorgo home video releases, Vinegar Syndrome seems poised to finally do it right in 4K Ultra HD. (If you're like me and don't have a way to watch such discs yet, don't worry, it comes with a Blu-ray.) New scan, new audio commentary, special features both new and old, and a killer cover. For those unfamiliar with the company, note that this release is "only available on [the Vinegar Syndrome] website and at select indie retailers. Absolutely no major retailers will be stocking them."

Every episode of Chibi Godzilla Raids Again is now subtitled, a fine excuse to get acquainted with one of the Reiwa era's biggest surprises. No stakes, no budget, just a bunch of Toho's biggest stars acting like a bunch of fools.
There's always more Godzilla toy news than this column can hope to cover, but a few highlights:
Bandai's ever-expanding Movie Monster Series will release Gamera 1965, Gyaos 1967, and Battra larva later this month. The defunct Daiei Kaiju Series last offered a Showa Gamera in 2006, and never covered any of his foes from that era; here's hoping Gyaos is the first of many.
Hiya Toys now has the license to produce figures from the Toho Godzilla films, not just the Monsterverse.
Super7 will be selling ReAction figures of Godzilla chomping some helpless people on a subway train at San Diego Comic Con. They just get it (and hopefully the many of us who aren't going will have some way of getting it that doesn't involve scalpers).
The new unit in Godzilla Battle Line is Monster X/Keizer Ghidorah. The former evolves into the latter after his first death. Keizer is a heavy hitter with a twist: he regains 20% of his health with every defeated foe. Great against swarms, but you don't see too many of those these days.
Believe it or not (many are still in denial), but Pacific Rim turns 10 on Wednesday. Thankfully, per this Tweet from director Guillermo del Toro, the effective start of the Kaiju Renaissance (and one of my all-time favorite films) won't go unrecognized on its first big anniversary. I'm guessing a cast reunion?

Language learning with media tips and recs for Mandarin
Once you've started to approach conversational level (or before then if you can't wait) a great way to build familiarity is watching shows in the language you are learning. But if you are still fairly new to the language there can still be a big gaps here, so I am sharing what's worked for me.
General tips
If you haven't already, I highly recommend adding two plugins to your browser: a speed controller and a dual subtitle plugin.
A speed controller is great for slowing it down when they are speaking too fast to process.
And while it's not great (for language learning purposes) to rely on native language subtitles, it's one way to enjoy watching a target language show and not have to engage so much of your brain (work and life can be draining) while still getting some benefit via exposure to culture, the sounds and (with a dual sub plugin) the words.
I use Chrome (yuck, I know) and the plugins DualSub and Video Speed Controller . There may be better ones out there, but I enjoy these. Dual Sub also has a " Chinese learning" option, which adds the pinyin as well, but I find it's not super reliable, not sure what I am doing wrong.
Also, side note: use Netflix in the browser for dual sub, if they have the subtitles you want.
Mandarin targeted tips
Watching shows produced in your target language is great practice but it can be hard to find sometimes, or expensive. The two best free options are YouTube and Viki, which come with their own pros and cons.

Honestly I like the Viki chat, which is timed comments that you can toggle on or off, but as with any chat functionality, the comments vary wildly and can get a little unhinged (whether that's a pro or con is in the eye of the beholder).

Ok now the real reason for this post: an excuse to gush about my favorite shows lol.
The Untamed
Probably needs no introduction, but as my first cdrama it will always hold a special space in my heart.
Sales pitch: a very fun cast of characters with acting I really enjoyed (but sometimes on the cheesy side) and motivations I could understand, even if I disagreed with them. I don't think I truly hate any character in this show, even the annoying ones I enjoy mocking at least.
Vibes: epic historical fantasy drama with humor and angst and tragedy
Disclaimers: not everyone enjoys the acting as much as I did, many people dislike the deviations from the source material (including the censorship), regular drama pitfalls (pacing, cheesiness, etc)
Where to watch: Available on US Netflix or on Viki (although low quality unless you have a paid subscription)
My Uncanny Destiny
My favorite drama to date.
Sales pitch: an extremely funny satirical take on cdrama tropes, I laughed through pretty much all of it. Has very progressive themes for the setting and handles them well (but humorously). The main couple's dynamic was fantastic.
Vibes: comedic historical drama with depth
Disclaimers: I personally think it is a lot funnier if you are at least passingly familiar with cdrama tropes as the premise of the show relies on flipping these (esp gendered ones), a fair amount of potty/gross out humor (but not all of it), the writing does drop off a little towards the end
Where to watch: viki
God Troubles Me
For the animation fans
Sales pitch: an animated show that is also really great for learning more about modern Chinese culture, I love the light hearted humor and ridiculous characters in this. While there is a loose overarching plot dealing with gods and monsters, it's actually very much a slice of life show
Vibes: cozy fun comedy
Disclaimers: while it's a great way to learn about Chinese culture, that can also be one of the biggest hurdles to engaging with it, especially if you are not very knowledgeable yet (like me!). Because it assumes the audience is already familiar, some jokes/details/plots may be confusing.

I finally watched Swedish Christ Superstar
Remember how I did a whole deep dive into the 2018 one? Yeah well, I was gonna try to do that with this version, but it is so unbelievably, completely, utterly, insanely unhinged that I just had to have my post about it match the energy. So without further ado, here are my literal first reaction notes to Jesus Christ Superstar (2014 Swedish Arena Tour).
Overture-
• Ooh the stuttering guitar is so metal
• Love the outfits, give me more apocalyptic leather headbanging nonsense
• Love how the choreo goes with the music rather than pure immediate chaos
• Admittedly the orchestra could be a bit better, but not terrible
• The shopping cart is my favorite character
• This feels almost interpretive

I saw you reblogged a few posts regarding subtitles and how they’re often not really the ~best~ lol. It reminded me how when Semantic Error was airing, some people who knew both English and Korean were a bit annoyed and/or confused at how the show was subbed because it cut out a lot of the more cheeky/rude and explicit language (in addition to there being some inaccurately or awkwardly translated dialogue). This seems to be an issue across countries too! I wonder why it happens. Things being inaccurately or awkwardly translated could just be from subbers not being proficient enough in one language to translate and keep the same meaning and make it flow in the translated language. However, I find the cutting out or censoring of bad language to be kind of odd and I’m curious what the thought process is there. That doesn’t seem like just translators who haven’t mastered the skill, it seems more intentional, but I can’t figure out why they might do it!
Why Are Subs/Captions Censored? Or different? Or inaccurate?
Yeah, those of you who got the GaGa subs for Semantic Error reportedly got better swears, but less accuracy in other regards. I only saw Viki's subs and some screen caps.
This was one of my favorites off GaGa:
And I *think* it is straight up a wrong translation.
Also there was this bit of Cutie Pie:
That was challenged by the bilingual community, then re-captioned so now this version doesn’t even exist any more. (Or something like that, I wasn’t paying very close attention.)
So why does this happen? Why are they different? And why no bad language (I get to that in #4.)
Sub Challenge # 1 - Cultural Depth & Nuance
Okay so I had to do a whole post about Daisy and Intouch’s language nuance in ONE SCENE in SCOY in order to explain what was going on in just 3 sentences. The translator even copped up to how complicated it was.
That’s just how it is sometimes with language. There is too much nuance. There actually is no way to do a direct translation.
Sometimes subbers or sub teams do put in comments saying this kind of thing. The Stay subber for Kingdom LW on Viki is hilarious. And do you any of you remember... who was it? PinkMilk? Back in the day, who did 2 Moons grey for us? What a HOOT those subs were. I kinda LOVE getting little footnotes on language and personal commentary. But I’m warped. Where was I?
For Semantic Error there was much discussion over the yaja time scene. (This is the beginning of ep 7, drinking together in the bar after hours right before the BIG kiss).
Viki translated it as “let’s be frank.” But actually yaja time is more complicated than that since it involves linguistic register shifting and role reversals. It allows the younger person to be more frank (and impolite) without consequences... or supposedly without them.
I hope you can see how this is also an issue for idioms, puns, word play, sarcasm, and humor. The translators may have English as a second language, or be translating from their second language (so the may know one idiom but not a good English one to translate into). Also the country they live in/are originally from influences them and how they translate.
Sub Challenge #2 - Platform Philosophy
The platform’s source country may make a difference in its “house rules” and subbling policy. Viki is a Japanese company, YouTube a US one, and GaGa comes out of Taiwan. But how they source subs also makes a difference. Is the subber a volunteer, a team, hired by the studio, or hired by the platform?
So Viki (mostly) does subs by volunteer teams, this means certain things are mutually agreed upon, they try to make their subs less open to interpretation but it means they can flatline, getting kind of muted. In other words their subs in English can come off as bland and businesslike - subs by committee. Also they are usually in a rush to get them uploaded fast, and can be haphazard. They had access to a lot of Korean and Japanese subbers, but not so many from other languages.
GaGa either buys ready subbed, handles them in house, or hires professionals, which means (mainly) one person is doing most of the subs for that one show. Like a translator hired to do a novel. Which means that person’s voice style will permeate their subs. Also any chronic mistakes or non-standard choices they make will carry through. You can notice this if the subber has a tick (something they never learned correctly in English).
So, for example, I think there is basically one eng subber for GMMTV who cannot let go of pluralizing the word “works.” As in “I have to go do the works now.” I mean, it’s awful cute but also, hot tip, we never say that in English (outside of ladies doing “good works” in Victorian London). They occasionally do “childs” too. Dek dek. So cute.
A lot of Thai and Vietnamese BL is subbed by someone hired by the studio, or on staff at the studio (in house). There are even some Thai actors who helped proof their show’s eng subs. Pavel is rumored to have helped with 2 Moons 2, and, of course there’s this gorgeous man:
This is why there are indie subbers who have fans, who follow them around and tip them and watch everything they translate, because the LIKE the subs.

Sub Challenge #3 - Registers
How to translating honorifics, shifting pronouns, and polite particles from a language that has them to one that doesn’t?
This is a big one for many Asian languages into English. Since English no longer has registers (we used to, see thee/thou), but most Asian languages do have them (at least formal and informal registers if not more). Registers are indicated by the use of honorifics and polite particles, but also by use of slang and rude words, changing pronouns and titles/modes of address, and grammatical arrangements.
Base level explanation of registers for English only speakers:
Think about someone using baby talk and how different that is from “normal” English. Now imagine it’s not just for babies, that you have one way of speaking for someone older than you, another for someone younger or equal; sometimes one mode if you are female, and another if you are male; one if if you are with your parents’ generation, and another if you are meeting royalty; one way of speaking in business or with professors and another when you are home or with friends.
Viki seems to just translate all honorifics (from Japan to Korea to Thai to...) to the person’s first name in English. So if the boy calls his older lover phi or P’Dean, Viki just always writes Dean. If he calls him sempai, sensei, sunbae, hyung, hia, whatever... Viki has just unilaterally decided to make it the first name. Which is very odd for Japan in particular, where first names are almost never used.
(I actually really LOVE the translator of Love By Chance on YT, they left many of the particles and honorifics in, so you can read them and start to learn.)
As a result, unless it’s a plot point they don’t both to explain that register shifting is occurring, and even then... you kinda gotta know what you’re listening for.
So like sunbae versus hyung in Semantic Error is a big deal. (And if there is any sluttier execution in existence than JaeYoung’s yaja time hyung to SangWoo I need a link right TF NOW, for science.) But unless you’re hearing/notice SangWoo call JaeYoung sunbae the whole time and then drop to hyung only at moments of key significance/emotion, you don’t realize that hyung is important or why.
In Love by Chance the subber chose to explain Ae’s use of Koon Chai* for Pete, thus saving us all from confusion, but in KinnPorsche they chose not to explain Khun Nu for Tankhun and just look what happen to my inbox!
* Khun Chai’s a bit like Little Prince, or the UK’s old fashioned Young Master. Also Ae add’s Ai to the front which means equal/friend/peer but also is a bit rude and casual. So he amended a formal title with an informal honorific.
Translators have to decide whether to go for accuracy or precision or a compromise between the two. And they’re given like one sentence or so to explain themselves if it’s a plot point. See challenge #1, that’s not enough space.
Sub Challenge #4 - Profanity Censorship
Possibly not “exactly” censorship but basically certain platforms, distributors, web hosts, searching platforms, and integration software programs come loaded with (or subject to) profanity (AKA modesty) crawlers. I’m only familiar with the USA ones but one of the things they hunt for is... you guessed it, swear words.
Now these can crawl captions that are soft subbed (uploaded as a separate file) but not (really) those that are hard subbed (encoded as part of the image). They are looking for bad/blue language, and they find it. They were designed (originally/ostensibly) to catch porn and sex work (*clutches pearls* protect the children!) and not for moral reasons but for in-country (and intrastate) compliance reasons (the platform doesn’t want to be sued, so many platforms police themselves *waves at google*), but are now actually being used to find unlicensed IPs (the platform doesn’t want to be sued).
Did I mention the suing part?
Here on Tumblr you can imagine this as just like the tagging wars. The crawler has a list of keywords and they just flag up anything that triggers them.
The product (video) is “punished” for its infraction in various different ways (depending on the platform);
On YT, for example, a video found to contain swear words can be flagged with a notification for contestation (channel has to take action within a certain time frame), or the whole channel could get removed, or that one video could get blocked until fixed, etc... resulting in major loss of revenue.
Some BLs will simply have a few episodes behind an 18+ mature rating (the kind you have to click on, Cutie Pie did this) to avoid issues with visual content. But that can detrimentally impact your add revenue, and sponsorship deals. (Watches certain brands clutch their pearls.)
But for subs?
It’s a hell of a lot easier just to not use the word fuck. It’s just one word, after all.
Now, I would expect a platform like GaGa that specializes in high heat content just not to care much. But they also might want to be careful of pissing off host countries, and subs are easier to crawl than imagery, so they might just have a house policy in place (style sheet) not to bother with bad language, too much of a hassle for not enough reward.
For example, I’m sure as shit not tagging this mf post with “profanity” “censorship” or even “YouTube” because i don’t want this post to be flagged or attract the wrong attention.

I don’t talk about this because I don’t know any subbers personally, either pros or fans. I do number a few literary translators among my friends but it’s materially different in the publishing industry. Some discussion here.

(Pure fangirl impressions) Ch 115
Haha a new subtitle of ‘pure fangirl impressions’ because i have too many thoughts to organize right now
I’m really happy with how they adapted these chapters for 115. I feel they serve to ENHANCE and even surpass the novel version at some point (!!!)
Yeah hi Papa Felipe, barging in and dropping off the remnants of Lari’s diary. (Novel detail only: he noticed Lari was gone and asked if that was why Rupert looked like shit lol)
Novel detail: Lehan remembers him because he was out wandering and randomly taught the troops chemistry one day (chap 86)
Novel detail: the page were burnt into crumbs, but in the manhwa some pages were left intact, but damaged. I prefer this because Rupert actually has more info to glean from
I LOVE RUPERT’S EXPRESSION OF SHOCK AAAA. Haha he forgets lehan was standing there for a while and finally dismisses him
Rupert finally figures out the inexplicable part of Lari: things make sense because she regressed.
The heartbreaking thing is he see her words (manhwa only) that include: [ It’s horrible. I don’t want to beg to live like this]. [I won’t die like that again] and… [I returned from death].
he then has a flashback to their first meeting and during the gun scene and recalls how he knew from the start how fake she was, to pretend she was bubbly and clueless but the moment he turned around she would give him a look of pure hatred and fear, and felt as if if he let his guard down she’d stab him in the back. But eventually he forgot because she said nice things to him and he felt comfortable around her, and eventually those feelings grew to the point where he wanted to grab her and kiss her
The manhwa changes the wording a bit - while in the novel it’s like [i want to kiss her], the manhwa says [like a beast, i wanted to kiss her] (or something like that - but the important thing is AS OF CHAPTER 78, PER THE MANHWA, HE IS THIRSTING FOR HER SO STRONGLY ALREADY!!!
In the novel, it doesn’t give readers a specific timeframe of when he started developing feelings - so I expected a random scene. But NOOO they used Ch 78.. so then by Ch 78, if he feels this strongly.. then that slightly changes how one would potentially see the entirety of S3, because it would change from “Ah his feelings are growing slowly and steadily” to “wait he’s loved her so much this whole time? So in this moment…” Omggg!!! I’m re-reading some scenes and having so much fun with it ><
THEY DID BETTER THAN I IMAGINED FOR THE SOFA SCENE.
yes, they included a panel of her saying he should upgrade his furniture, but also a few panels of her being around the room making random comments and calling out to him while smiling. He misses her calls that muchhhhh T_T
Ah the tori scene in the last third. Instead of making her give a weird fake smile, they left her emotionless. But she still mimicked Lari’s hug, to which Rupert gently distanced her away.
We get a nice flashback to how Tori was created, with poor Rupert hiding behind Eva while watching Tori beg for her to stop.
This is such good paneling to end the chapter, because it makes the reader think “Oh no, with lari gone, he’s in despair he only has Tori (Eva) left, he’s shackled down again… will he become a tyrant again???
and the answer is no, Rupert is approaching his “black bread stalker guy” phase HAHHA.
In terms of what they’ll adapt next week in 116, there’s a 50% they’ll give us a Rupelali reunion. It’s hard to say because there’s a lot of skippable filler content with the backstory of Lari’s village life // and Lehan + Rupert antics.. BUT IT INCLUDES THE LEAF SCENE… but again, is skippable stuff.
The next few chapters is essentially the same scene as well, with Lari’s POV first, then Rupert’s POV.. (like Ch 97/98) so will be interesting to see what they do.

Mankai Movie Spring and Summer
Right off the bat, the feeling is completely different from their stage performance.
Every time I consume a new piece of A3! media, I remember what Hoshi (the creator or KniRun) said. That in each media, there is something that only that certain media can do. So now we all all kinds of versions for A3!
Game
Stage
Anime
And now, movie.
It definitely took me a while to get used to, since while the actors are the same as the stage, the way they were acting was not. On stage, their acting is a lot more exaggerated and loud, and I guess that was what I was expecting. But instead, their acting was a lot more subdued and serious, kind of like a drama. Which kind of threw me off since I never viewed A3! as a drama, lololol.
The movie is only two hours long, which is a lot shorter than the play version, which makes sense, since there’s usually no intermission in a movie theater, so they cut a LOT out. I understand it, but it gave me anime flashbacks where the anime too, cut a lot out, lololol. In my opinion, it would’ve been better to make Spring one movie, and Summer into another, since they had to squish both storylines into two hours. A lot of it was rushed in my opinion. So you don’t really get to see a lot of character growth save for Sakuya and Tenma.
There was also a lot of close ups, which personally, I didn’t like very much, but I guess that was the direction the directors decided to go with, lol.
They had an actor for Izumi! But you never see her face. Only her shoes and her hands. And she has really pretty hands, lol.
This time, instead of just the chime that stands for her voice, there’s subtitles in the side to indicate what she said.
In my opinion, the stage version is better, but the movie was fun to watch too. It’s not something that could be stand alone though, since a lot of things were cut. So I guess, it’s kind of a like an additional fan service to those who enjoy both the game and the stage.
Right now it’s available for rent at dmm for pretty cheap, so if anybody wants to go watch it, you can! Just make sure you use a vpn.

Earlier this month dollsome posted a poll of some favorite TV shows, and there was a space to write in your own favorite, and I had an immediate crisis of conscience upon realizing I do not know anymore.
(this got kinda long)
In high school and for a few years after that the obvious answer was X-Files, but lol no to that; even if the revival hadn’t tainted it, it’s been handily surpassed by way too many better shows at this point.
Up until the early 2010s it was definitely a CBS procedural, probably one of the CSIs or maybe NCIS. Now the only ones that have a chance at that title are Criminal Minds* and maybe Numb3rs; the rest are all uniformly like “you want me to watch cases? about strangers? when I could instead just make the episodes 10 minutes long by reducing them to the important parts, i.e. regular-character personal moments??” (...I actually do still have pretty good memories of the cases on CSI: NY and Cold Case, but I digress)
*which I joined up with in season 8; still haven’t seen huuuuge swaths of the entire first half of the series
I guess I could say The Office, which is a rare blend of strong character/shipper moments and episodes I genuinely enjoy watching again in their entirety, but also, how can a sitcom (even a smart one) be my favorite show*?? (even though sitcoms make up the vast majority of “shows I can watch over and over,” I’ve ruled most of them out because Office is honestly one of the only ones where I have beloved characters, let alone ships. And my favorite show of all time HAS to come with an OTP, it just has to.)
*especially when I hate Michael Gary Scott with every fiber of my being, or at least 96% of them!
So now I’m like - oh god. Is it Glee? Maybe it’s Glee?? Has anything after that so thoroughly eaten my brain and made me happy watching both as whole episodes (season 666 not withstanding) and as short scene clips years after the fact, complete with fanfic consumption? But I am certainly too old for Glee to be my all-time favorite show, aren’t I? And/or too straight? How could my favorite show be one in which the heterosexual rep is less than 90% of the ships, and also not the best one.
Part of me genuinely thinks it could be Revolution, something smartly done but also action-packed that I have now watched 4 times in its entirety, and on which I have a top tier OTP to boot. Seems an odd choice for favorite, given that I don’t actually think I watch a lot of shows in this genre, but maybe? Same goes for Pushing Daisies.
Another part of me is in such a fannish fugue state right now that I’m like “OBVIOUSLY Blood and Treasure. OBVIOUSLY nothing has ever been better than this beautiful couple on this glorious cracky treasure-hunting ride,” but I’m too close to it right now to make a judgment call, given that I once had this same feeling about Zoo. (which was fun, mostly, but also no. definitely not my #1 fave. I haven’t watched so much as a scene clip since like, 2018)
Then there are a lot of single-season shows I loved, but single shows simply cannot be my favorite. No one remembers most of them, for one.
Maybe I would feel better if I made a top 10? Or if I listed my top 10 rewatchable sitcoms, deliberately excluded them, and then tried to list a top 10??

tl;dr SUPER JEALOUS RIGHT NOW OF ANYONE WHO KNOWS THEIR FAVORITE SHOW, OR EVEN TOP 3-5 SHOWS, OF ALL TIME.
p.s. I came across this lovely book in the library, What to Watch When: 1000 TV Shows For Every Mood and Moment, which very much impressed me with its organization, comprehensiveness and ability to deliver on the subtitle while spanning decades all the way up to 2020 -- and I gotta tell you that as much as I cherish this one’s content, I am also very tempted to write my own personalized version. I think that might be the only way I feel okay. “what if I told you my thousand favorite shows? *hands you a Tome*”

Okay connection was fixed and saw BOTH first two eps. Heh same from what I wrote last time. Want Guillermo to be happy, worrying about this love triangle/rectangle? (some fans still think this is soley Nandor/Guillermo)
It just still depends for me. Do I see it? Possiblyyy yes I read one person fantheorize that Guillermo/Nandor could be a thing and he’d be the Guide’s spot... again I dunno 8B. Save for the Guide herself we don’t know the sole punishment for loving a Van Helsing. And she admitted she was wild... so what genderbend Laszlo? If this were Laszlo then yeah Nandor’s screwed. But minor a few things, he doesn’t break the rules or is as much a deviant when compared to Laszlo. I mean either the vamp world doesn’t care or is veryyyy stupid. I mean if they would have said anything about him having Guillermo they would have said it now, considering the massacre at the theater.
The rectangle, to early to say. Only will say I hope Guillermo’s genuine and really cares about his secret bf. Rebound relationships bother me sometimes I hate if we see the other partner is sweet, only to find “Oh not over so-so” and leaves them hurt. But again too early to say so dunno.
And then we have Nandor’s “wedding”... heh. I don’t dislike the bride. It was just hehhh like watching vamp Archer. All the shippers were all “Oh his dream bride is Guillermo”. All I heard was “I WANT TO BE THE SOLE ATTENTION”. I mean he got ride of brides who wanted to touch a painting or asked to shave his beard. I mean one he ditched cause they couldn’t read. Pft kinda more obvious when he was talking to one of his husbands/guy wives (I forgot their name... Ramy (if I spelt it wrong sorry subtitles and the DVR ended at cast credits) went through one test with Nandor and VOLUNTARILY chose for the djinn to poof/kill him.
Thats saying a lot. Its not Guillermo, its the factor that Nandor is a selfish or spoiled idiot. I mean again don’t scream at me, love Nandor and I know its a comedy but thats literally the whole point. Aside from Guillermo (to a degree. I mean yes he accused the djinn/Nandor or murdering butttt Guillermo leads victims to be feed/eaten by the vamps sooooo...*shrugs*), the vamps are selfish characters. So watching the whole “trials” felt more like listening to Archer (older version) or that Kuzco scene where he was picking brides. Like I said earlier still think this is just Nandor in a midlife crisis//shrugs//.
Did love the scene when all the wives/husbands? were pissed he couldn’t remember their names. Guillermo and Djinn just instantly exited lol. Though again Nandor has come a ways in treating Guillermo better. But if he’s the endgame, I still think he’s still a ways from being good for Guillermo. He still doesn’t want to hug him and doesn’t fully call him his friend. I mean he didn’t/or doesn’t care when Guillermo brings up how he’s overworked/misses his own family, etc. As I said before Nandor buttt yeah until more development Guillermo could do better. (Being a comedy also makes it hard for me to see which is for comedy/which is their real character)
Uhh the revelation about the guide makes somewhat sense or at least in regards to her attraction to Guillermo. I wouldn’t be surprised if she had a fling with a great-great-great ancestor of his.
Not entirely on board with Nadja’s vampire nightclub storyline. Its not her actions or something, no everything she does and said has been full on Nadja. Its just wanting it, I dunno feels late? I mean why didn’t she do this when she first got her seat? Or when Simon the Devious nightclub blew up? Though to that again... why pick that location where the guide/council had that library? They could have picked anywhere, I mean heck like Guillermo mentioned earlier they could have just hypnotized people to do whatever they want (yes referring to last ep in regards to repair), including just building over where his club was since it appeared last time that Simon lost his club.But if we’re gonna nitpick still wonder why Guillermo didn’t just leave once he made it to Englund with Nadja or left before she traveled back to America.
For that matter why isn’t Guillermo “borrowing” that djinn lamp and asking him “Hey repair this house?”... but maybe he’s avoiding that cause djinns are crafty.
Uhh still wonder if Colin is still an energy vamp. One of Nandor’s wives, made me wonder if he’s just draining people differently now as a child. But kids are draining in general so who can say?

Hello Tumblr! I need your help to make something good happen - it’s super easy and I don’t need any money.
So I’m planning to create a VR program that will allow the user to experience the most beautiful, awe-inspiring corners of this planet as realistically as possible from the comfort of their own home.
The reason why I want to create this is because we are all creatures of Earth and we should all be able to bask in her divinity, regardless of background or socioeconomic status, but unfortunately not everyone has the resources required for travel, up to and including being able-bodied. There are lots of amazing places on this planet, but some of the best are also some of the most remote - not exactly accessible to everyone, especially people with mobility issues.
This is where I need help: if you have a disability that is a hindrance to you exploring the planet, or if you have a terminal illness and you don’t have time to see everything you want, or even if you are able-bodied and healthy but can’t afford travel - I need you to use either replies, tags, asks, or DMs to tell me where you would go if you could go anywhere. What places do you want to see that aren’t accessible to you? What adventures do you want to go on, what kind of things do you want to see, what kind of challenges do you want to go hard at that aren’t accessible to you? What view do you dream of seeing one day?
Do you want to climb Everest? Do you want to dive in the Mariana Trench? Do you want to see the Great Barrier Reef? Hike through the Amazon jungle? Go zip lining over Niagara Falls? Hang gliding over the Grand Canyon? Tell me about it! Tell me where you want to go and what you want to do, and any little specifics about the experience you’d be most excited about, and I will do my absolute best to recreate it in a VR environment as realistically as possible.
Also, if you can think of anything that may get in the way of being able to wear a VR headset that I should be aware of, and especially if you already have an idea for a solution, please let me know! Please also let me know about any specific accessibility settings I can add that would make for a better experience. I’m already planning to add options for subtitles, colorblind mode, and epilepsy mode.
I will be doing a VR version, but there will also be a regular desktop version for those who don’t have access to VR equipment, and both versions will be free.

I just listened to Namjoon's npr tiny desk vid and just wow... The live version just hits different. I felt kinda sentimental and that I learned more about the songs. And his in between explanations wow. He's just so eloquent. I wish I could hear him talk more about what he loves/thinks about life and art etc. At least there'll be that useless dictionary talk show. Where can I watch it online TT
Now goofy brain things. I realized "still life" sounds like "still alive" from this vid lol. tbf, i was tired when the album came out ok. also big brain namjoon is so hot omg. and his talking voice omg.

me too me too, i feel like if i were to ever just have an hour with namjoon i’d wanna understand life through his eyes because his perception of every thing is always so hauntingly beautiful— and i think indigo shows this quite well. but i think it would amazing to understand how maybe his passion for music has transferred into his passion and love for art, how maybe his dreams from 15 years ago have moulded him and how they changed along with his journey with music and fame
i wonder if the fame has ever changed his perception on music, i know in the dreaded festa video he said it felt like they’d lost their footing ahhh it would be so nice to sit down and just unpack these things with him 😭

i watched still life with subtitles and it definitely said still alive but that would also make sense because “life is better than death, i’ll prove it” which by the way, just gave me so much more motivation to live all of a sudden
big brained namjoon is so delicious and i could genuinely listen to that man talk for hours about literally anything and i’d pretend to understand even it’s way beyond me because whatever he says goes, i don’t make the rules

Here’s post 3 of me talking about Ateez songs/music videos!
See the last 2 posts for notes, but basic break down: I’m new to the group, I’m watching all their music videos first, then moving on to other songs. These are just my initial thoughts, my opinions change all the time. If I make a mistake or get something way off, let me know
This one has Be My Lover, Deja Vu, Eternal Sunshine, Turbulence, I’m Real, Don’t Stop, Rocky, and Guerrilla.
And here I go!
Be My Lover - Just to clarify, I do not know the other person in this video, Jong kook, I know nothing about him.
But this was a fun video and song! Very cute. Loved the styling and everything. Loved Mingi being back. Overall, very cute!
Deja Vu - ...okay, listen.
I’ve actually already seen this video and heard this song before. When I was originally trying to get into Kpop, back in April, I came across this video, but overlooked it. I did add the song to my Spotify though, and I’ve listened to it once or twice. However, now I can appreciate it more since I know them a little better and know what to expect more.
So yea, this video is indeed sexy, I agree with the comments, lmao. Also, more men should be slutty in crop tops, that’s all I’m saying.
It’s a great song and video. Love the looks, love the choreography, fantastic.

Eternal Sunshine - Another vibrant and colorful video, I love it. Also, another chill and upbeat song, they’re really good at these types of videos/songs. Again, probably won’t be my favorite, but still a really good one!
I don’t really have much else to say on this one.
Turbulence - First of all, this music video was absolutely stunning. The visuals, the styling, all of it.
They all sound amazing, as well, but that’s a given at this point. I will say these types of songs aren’t my cup of tea, just in terms of whether or not I’ll replay it or not. But it’s a stunning song.
I’m Real - Okay, I have thoughts. I just wanna say, I don’t mean anything by this, I’ll try to explain what I mean the best I can.
Are parts of this video supposed to be funny? Or am I just not getting it? Because I loved it either way, it was very chaotic and fun and I love that, but I also almost feel like I’m missing out on a joke somewhere, I don’t know. I could be reading this completely wrong.
It was a fun video either way, and they seemed to be having a ton of fun, so that’s always a bonus!
Don’t Stop - This one was definitely unusual. Not only was there no English subtitles, so I have no idea what this song is about (I’ll look it up later, lol), but there also wasn’t any visible singing or dancing of any kind. Definitely unusual.
The song was pretty good though, definitely gonna watch a lyric video to figure out who’s singing what. It felt like a very lore heavy video, so when I start getting into the lore, I’m curious to see how it fits (I’m waiting on that, for now, at least until I finish the music videos).
They were all very stunning here, as well, such fantastic looks. I was especially blown away by that shot of Mingi walking towards the camera. Gorgeous.
Rocky (Boxers version) - This was very aggressive, which I suppose was the point, lol.
It’s not my favorite from them, but it was good. The dancing was a lot, lot of hip thrusts, lmao. And the styling wasn’t too bad. Not much to say about this one, honestly.
Guerrilla - This isn’t my favorite from them, but it’s still really good! Another intense and chaotic video/song. Loved the styling and the choreography. And of course, they all sound amazing.
Probably should have spread these out more, because I think I’m saying less as I go on because I’m getting a bit wiped out, lol. I also have really bad heartburn, and it’s very distracting.

WinBack: Covert Operations (Nintendo 64)
When a group of terrorists called the "Crying Lions" take over a laser satellite, a covert team called S.C.A.T. (lol) is dispatched to WINBACK the satellite before they can do any harm.
I remember when this game came out in 1999, it was touted by gaming magazines as Nintendo's answer to Metal Gear Solid. The very idea is laughable in retrospect, but hey, MGS made a big splash and lots of developers were trying (and mostly failing) to follow its lead. In order to be as good, if not better, than MGS, your game bare minimum has to have good stealth gameplay mechanics and a compelling story with rich, interesting characters.
WinBack has none of those things. Honestly, the subtitle "Covert Operations", which implies that the game will have stealth mechanics, is blatant false advertising. Pretty much from the first stage you are running willy nilly through the environment, exchanging fire with the enemy. It's not a fast paced 3rd-person shooter like, say, the Uncharted games, but you are actively fighting enemies more often than you are hiding from them. The main mechanic is finding cover when in a firefight and popping off some rounds when you can. So the game is more like Time Crisis than Metal Gear.
While I am ragging on the gameplay a little, and it does get a little boring, for the most part the combat is solid (not "Metal Gear" solid exactly, but solid!). The controls can be frustrating, especially when the auto-target loses it's fucking mind and has your character squaring up to shoot at the wall when the enemy is right in front of his stupid face. The damage you incur by the enemy can be unforgiving too, so this mistake can cost you dearly.
You are equipped with a handgun (that has infinite ammo), a shotgun, and an AK-47. Along the way, you will sometimes come across different weapons that you can use for a limited time, like a rocket launcher that does pitiful area damage and a silencer that is useless because, again, not a stealth game. Otherwise, the game is pretty barren of cool, useful weapons.
Many of these issues would be fine if the game had a cool story set in an interesting environment, but nope. The story is pretty boilerplate, the characters are dull, there's no voice acting (which I normally don't care that much about, but it might have helped), and the environment is about as exciting as your most boring office job. If you ever wanted to run through the same barren corridors and have gun battles in mostly empty rooms, well.... WINBACK! I understand the N64 might have technical limitations, but that didn't stop GoldenEye from having excellent (for the time) level design.
To be fair, In 1999, WinBack is an absolutely serviceable, mildly-to-moderately entertaining game, but it hasn't aged well. Metal Gear Solid on the other hand, even the original PS1 version... I can play that right now for the umpteenth time and have a ball doing it.

The Wayhaven Chronicles—Update 11/June/2021
Another really great week this week!
So as I said last week, I'm tackling the research version of Chapter 8 first, and seeing as my usual order of writing was put out by not planning A's scene, I dove straight into N's.
Except...well, that went all off a completely different tangent than expected, lol!
The start was going exactly as I planned and then this HUGE opportunity presented itself to put in a scene that I thought was going to be in Book Four but it fit here SO perfectly!!
So then it was all a bit of a flummox 'cause it's so perfect but I wasn't expecting it quite yet, but guuuyyyyssss...I LOVE IT!!! In fact, I love what I'm writing so much that when I went to get a cup of tea I couldn't stay still while the kettle was boiling 'cause I was so hyped. I was practically bouncing round the kitchen, lol! :D
It's a massive moment, but it feels so incredibly natural. Well, if you decide to take that moment. Obviously there's different choices here depending on your MC, but even the other options lead to places I am seriously happy with and also feels right whatever you choose!
I wasn't 100% sure how I was going to approach this moment when it came up in Book Four, but because it's fit so well here it's just flowed, and I didn't even need to think about planning!
But even better, I will be able to match all the choices in this moment back up really nicely to work back into the original stuff I already planned for N's research scene, so I don't have to lose that content either!!
And I managed to think of how to adapt it for the Combat version of Chapter 8 so the moment can still happen but in a completely different way to suit that version of the scene!
It's a lot of variation, much more than I had planned, but I really hope the nuances will really allow you guys to play the story that feels right for your character.
I'm also super happy because I managed to fit in a choice set to improve the MC's skill choices too. I haven't managed to add that in in a while as it's never felt appropriate, and I thought this would just be for upping the combat or research stats, but I came up with a really nice moment to make a choice that didn't feel mechanical or gamey-like, if that makes sense!
So yeah, it's been a hectic week creatively but a great one! :D
With the demo fully out now, it will pretty much just be months of knuckling down to the same routine and just hammering out the writing...as well as editing, which I really am going to do! SpunkyCatNinja is currently working on getting proper subtitles up together for the YouTube Q&A vids, but I will send her Chapter 7 as soon as I can get in the right editing headspace.
But I'm way too pumped on Chapter 8 for that at the moment!
