Why is it that whenever I see a scientific journal about autism it is written by an ableist.
#I found one that said there are brain wide changes in virtually all of the 11 cortical regions analyszed#aka the differences in an autistic brain compared to a neurotypical brain are larger than original thought#then i see this line about how this research will help accelerate development of disease altering therapies#oh this is where my red flag light starts flickering#so I google the lead author#this is now a hate letter to Dr Daniel Geschwind#he is a Fancy distinguished professor at UCLA#and he guided the development of the autism genetic resource exchange founded by cure autism now#the program is now part of Autism speaks#it also only talks about autism as a disease#now I'm no doctor but I don't think autism is a disease like scientifically speaking#now Dr G is funded to do research on African American families with autism#nooo#anyway i love researching autism#but as an autistic person#ewwww#like so much of research on autism is about finding a cure#that is problematic#like i just want to understand it#i want science to back up my lived experiences of it#but nooo#anyway . . .
