IZZIE’ FOCUS GROUP FOR :

     V O L A T I L  E Type: Adventure / Romance / Drama / Comedy ( wow i’m great at this ) My original story, a rant of a few too many words for some ( greatly appreciated ) input from you lovelies.

Synopsis: The story goes as following-- Boy meets girl. Girl meets boy. They lock eyes and-- they don’t kill themselves. Nix and Icarus meet while standing on the roofs of two opposite buildings, on the night they had decided to take their lives. This cosmically ironic coincidence drives the two characters into the same path, when they meet and encounter-- sometimes hilariously funny, others not so much-- new characters of all forms and shapes. Neverland, Wonderland, Narnia, Hogwarts, nothing quite compares to the new world they are pulled to. There are bright places, where they forget darkness ever existed; there is darkness, filled with anger and pain-- rivers of tears and screams. But there is a far worse place, where there is neither happiness nor sadness, it’s a limbo of emotions, apathy. The lethargic sensation coats their skin, makes it heavy, and all feeling is lost-- all the caring, the dreams and the fears. Nix doesn’t care if she’s walking on glass, Icarus doesn’t feel the burning of the sun until everything goes black. The story is their ride of dealing with depression, and hopefully, learning how to defeat it, or live with it.

  Themes : I decided to write, a while ago, something that I could fuel with my own struggles, that’s how Volatile was born. It’s the written metaphoric representation of living with depression. The two main characters, at first look, are tragic and doomed-- there even are omens to their seemingly unavoidable fate-- Nix, named after the greek embodiment of the night ( Nyx ), and Icarus, who flew to close to the sun and burnt. Also, at first look, they seem very similar, as people who battle depression see themselves erased quite regularly. These characters, whose faults you’ll come to know first, are the reader’s introduction to their actual disorder. You’ll see them as they see themselves, and the whole ride is a way for the reader to see their two dimensional perception of mental disorders and the people who live with them turn into a complex and more inclusive and understanding view of it.
