Me, like: "Jean Jacket is so pretty, I need to look closer-" *proceeds to perish* (I had a lot of fun drawing this! I'm obsessive over this movie.)

yeah the social commentary and underlying themes were great but what really made me love NOPE was the chaotic lesbian, her quietly hilarious brother, the scrunkly little customer service worker they adopted, and the eldritch horror that followed them home like a stray cat

it’s a ufo. it’s a flying saucer. it’s a ten gallon hat. it’s a lens. it’s an eye. it’s a stingray. it’s a raincloud. it’s a jellyfish. it’s a sand dollar. it’s a camera obscura. it’s an angel. it’s an alien. it’s a horse. it’s a lampshade. it’s a cuttlefish. it’s a halo. it’s a coin. it’s a chimpanzee. it’s a record. it’s a film reel. it’s an acoelomate. it’s a balloon. it’s a wild animal loose on the set of a family show. it’s the past catching up to you. it’s the other shoe dropping. it’s a viewer. it’s an unwilling spectacle. and above all it’s a jean jacket.

The funny thing about Nope is that no one can act like Jean Jacket was a malicious force. Dangerous, yes. Not where it should be; not an intentionally evil being however. Hungry as hell tho

Happy day when Jean Jacket gulps down a whole crowd of people and uses their blood and remains to mark their territory on the Haywood’s House 🎉🥳

Yet More Nope Stuff
Nope is such an excellent movie for a ton of reasons, one of them being how refreshing it is. By that I mean the animals are treated as animals, not monsters, villains, props, or characters. Either they did their research, or there was a behaviorist or someone who worked with animals on the writing team or consulting. Perhaps all of the above. Either way, they got it right.
When Jean Jacket unfurled and started pulsing it took only me a few seconds to realize it was a threat display (once I got over how incredible the design was and how cool the scene had become. It started incredible, but that really kicked it into a higher gear). They designed a threat display for something that’s been compared to new testament angels. That’s just so freaking cool.
And it’s not constantly looking for food! It spends a ton of time just chilling in the clouds, minding its own business. That’s how predators work. They’re not just mindless killing machines. If they don’t have to hunt, they won’t. Most creatures don’t go out to kill for fun.

I didn't want to make this comparison on the original post itself, but when people talk about why Jean Jacket dropped the fake horse on OJ's windshield, I don't think it was a threat or warning or anything, I think it was just JJ exhibiting the same Little Shit energy (but on a larger and thus more dangerous scale) as this octopus:
