BC + mental health discussion

So I'm 25yo uni student at my limit. I listen A LOT of Blind Channel right now, because that shit is perfect for mental break downs. I am also ADHD and I get hyperfixated to music. BC is my latest after I used all dopamine on Måneskin. I also have now noticed the discourse around their music and how they "glorify mental illness". As a student teacher and person, who has battled with depression for 12 years with undiagnosed ADHD, gone through massive ten year trauma with my whole family and worked with "special needs kids" I find the direction of the conversation very odd and concerning. If you are worried about the music your teenager is listening and want to ban it, let me tell you why that is so wrong in many ways. You are worried about the music, the symptom of not being well. Music talking about mental illness is very healthy way to go through those emotions and if anyone know how it feels, it is BC. They all have mental health struggles or they work on the field. And if you are only worried about the music, you are not worried about the right thing. I'm same age group as boys. I have listened days to end Linkin Park and cried. BC's song "Scream" really speaks to me because Chesters voice was something that carried me through such hard times.

This is the point. This is why this music is so importand and what it was to me. If your teenager is running to their room, closing the curtains and putting songs like theirs on, yes, you should be worried. Not about the music. Not about the lyrics. But their mental health and what they are feeling. Because this kind of music is something that actually keeps them alive and gives them hope that there is others too.

Scenario that I described is from my childhood. I was the lucky one whose dad actually knew what these symptoms meant because of his work. Yeah, he didn't always have best methods but also he didn't ban the music, he made me get help. If you, as a youth health care professional are worried, offended and scandalized because songs like "Dark side" or "Died enough for you", your priorites are not right. Listen what teenagers are telling you, not what the song says. Yes, BC have songs that give me pause because internalized and learned misogyny they sometimes have and some lines that are bordeline woman hatered, but I also think they are growing and us telling them off will help. But mostly, they are just giving voice to those who don't feel like they belong.

i cant believe blind channel's summer tour is over

it feels like the end of an era

blind channel saved me this summer, with their music and with them as people

they gave us the best summer ever with so many amazing memories

i hope they rest now, they absolutely deserve it 🖤
