CASA BONITA PT2
KYLE X READER!
Description: Y/n tries to find the best gift to give to Kyle for his birthday, getting help from her best friend butters. Y/n becomes a little closer to the gang. :)
Warning: Swearing, Fluff, Sad, color coded a little.
_________________________________________________
"guy's I need help." I ask sitting down at the girl lunch table and just like that I had all of their attention on me.
" what's up Y/n?" Wendy asks.
"okay so I was invited to Kyle's birthday for Casa Bonita.-"
"CASA BONITA!!' "LUCKY!"
"OMG i WISH!"
"SO COOL!"
the girls gawk at this information, this was a shock. I had only moved to America a couple month ago so was still getting use to some cultural norms.
"What is Casa Bonita and what do I get Kyle for his birthday?" I ask the girls.
"Casa Bonita a super awesome mexican resturant" Bebe started
"Yeah! they have cliff divers, puppet shows, forever lasting food!" Nichole continues
"and they even have photoshoots you can do with friends. it's the best!" Hidi finishes I nod but sigh again.
"Okay that's done but what do I get Kyle for his birthday? he told me not to get him anything, but It would be way too weird!" I explain they all hum in agreement and we all start thinking.
"What were you thinking of getting him Y/n?" Wendy asks me I feel my cheeks heat up for some odd reason when she asked.
"Umm I was going it knit him a scarf with his favioute-" "Kyle probably already has a lot of stuff like that! Plus, he's loaded Y/n he could buy one whenever he wants" Hidi says.
"yeah, he took me too a basketball game in another town for a date!" Nichole says they all agree.
"he's loaded?"
"Yeah, all Jew's are! aren't there any jews in Australia?" Bebe asks me.
"Well of course there are, but their quite rare I've actually never met a Jew before Kyle. I wasn't really taught about it."
"don't worry about its Y/n, you can't make him a scarf do you know what he likes?" Bebe asks me, it took me minute to think...
"Umm, Terriance and Philp but everyone likes that! wait! he loves video games like guitar hero!"
"Nice why not get him something like that then?"
"Okay, then. thanks guys!" And like that the topic changed instantly but the question was still on my mind, should I get him something with video games? he probably already has stuff like that.
"You alright Y/n?" Wendy asks I nod my head and sigh.
"You know, personally I feel like Kyle would like the scarf better." this catches my attention.
"How so?"
"OH, just a feeling" She winks at me giggles and goes back to eating, we all catch up and soon enough it was class time.
__________________________________________________----
I walk onto the bus and make my way down Kyle waves back I sit across from his ale next to butters. Butters and I got along well, apparently, we have familiar attuites to life or that's what craigs say. Butters was a cool dude we play video games together at his sometimes.
"Butter's, I need your help."
"Well, whatever you need I'm here!" He says, I glance to Kyle who was talking to Kenny and Stan, he almost catches my eyes before I turn my back to him to face. butters.
"I don't know what to get Kyle for his birthday, I was going to knit him a scarf. But then the girls said he's rich and won't want that and to get him a video game."
"Oh boy that is a tough one!"
"Yeah! So, I wanted to know what you're getting him!" I ask my friend.
"Well, I was just going to get him. something with Philp and Terriance, like a T-shirt or a plush maybe I'm still thinking about it. But I mean Kyle already has a lot of winter clothes, so I think the video games are a good idea!" Butters explains I nod but then he starts talking again.
"But then again, I love the mittens you made me, I wear them all the time! there in my bag right now! So, Kyle might like the scarf better! oh man this is a hard one. I'm sorry Y/n." Butter apologies, you pat you friends shoulder a little and give him a reassuring smile.
"Don't worry butters, but thanks anyways I'll probably just ask craig if he's not too busy."
"I though you where g-going the Kyles tonight too play games?"
"Oh fuck-" I quickly turn around to Kyle and see if the bus driver is paying. attention.
I jump seats to Kyles quickly, as soon as a speed bump came. Kyle jumps slightly at this.
"Y/n? You shouldn't move seats the bus drivers going to get mad!"
"I know, sorry Kyle but I need to cancel our plans! just for today can we move it too tomorrow?" I ask him he seemed shocked but gives me a nod.
"Thanks Kyle! I know you love your schedules and I'm super sorry for cancelling last minute. seriously dude."
"Yeah, it's fine, but is it okay if I ask why?"
I freeze I can't tell him the reason I am cancelling is go to shopping with Craig for a gift for him.
"Oh, Craige needs help with something- it's a family thing you know! anyway, thank dude" I go sit on the very edge of the seat and wave the butters, who smiles back. but Kyle pulls me back to him by the back of my jumper.
"Umm, you shouldn't move because you'll get in trouble..." the boys cheeks where a little red and mine where heating up a little at this for some reason.
"I guess." silence appeared and was very hard not to feel Awkard by it,
"Kyle what's your favioute video game?"
"I love guitar hero, but I really want this game called Minecraft I'm hoping my parents get it for my birthday.!" we started to talk of video games, then our grades and how our day was and soon enough it was mine and Craigs stop.
"Bye Tweek, come on Y/n!" Craig says catching my attention.
"Okay Bye Kyle! see ya tomorrow.!" I say and grab my bag from butter seat.
"bye butters!"
"bye, Y/n be safe!"
I walk pass Tweek and wave bye to the boy with a smile, he smiles and waves back. and we get of the buss.
"Craig how was your day?"
"It was good, why arn't you going to kyles again?" he asks me as we enter his house.
"Hey kids how were school?!" Aunty asks.
"Good thanks Aunty!" I call entering the house.
"Craige, I need your help! what do I get Kyle for his birthday?" I ask him.
"I don't know, what were you thinking" Craig could read me like a book, and I follow him up to his room as we continue talking.
"I was going to Knit something for him, but the girls said he probably won't like it and I should play it safe and get him this video game called Minecraft or something! But Wendy said I should knit him something! and Butter couldn't help me! And I'm slightly freaking out!" I blurted it all out, he just stands there...
"Just take a deep breath, Your gonna be fine. Kyle will be happy with whatever you get him, don't start stressing over something silly." he walks me to his bed I sigh and I sit on it and breath like Craige told me.
"Okay, thank you Craig. but what do you think?" craig sits next to me and thinks, I wait patiently for my cousin.
"I think you should knit him that scarf you're really talented at that, when's the party?"
"This Saturday, 5:30 I already texted Aunty about it."
"Yeah, that should be enough time to knit him a scarf, He's going to like it Y/n. I mean I love the hat you gave me; I wear it everywhere." he points to his hat which makes me smile thinking of when I made him it. his old one was wearying out and getting too small so I made him one so the next time we came to America he could have it. It's weird to think I live in it and with him now. Waiting for my parents to finish the move before and buy a house in south park.
"Thanks, Craige You're the best cousin I could have asked for."
_____________________________________________________
Y/n was 15 minutes early when they pulled up to Kyles house. Y/n waves goodbye to her Aunty after dropping her off. She walks up to the door and knock. A woman with big red hair and a blue dress opens the door.
'So, this is Kyles mum?'
"Ooh hello their! you must be one of Kyles friends! I'm Sheila nice to meet you. Your here early! KYLE YOUR FRIENDS HERE EARLY!"
"It's nice to meet you ma'am, I apologies if I'm late- "No, no. your fine come in! Your actually early! it's lovely to meet you.
"Oh, what a polite young girl! it's lovely to meet you Y/n!" when she got in she saw stan and Kenny their as well.
"Y/n! Glade you made it!" "Happy birthday Kyle! hey guys!" I greet them.
"hey Y/n"
"hey Y/n, how you going?"
"excited I've never been to Casa Bonita before!"
"what they don't have a Casa Bonita in Australia?"
"No, so I'm excited to see one. All the girls told me it's fun."
"You'll love it! it's fucking cool!" I chuckle a little at kenny.
"hey I said not to get me anything!" kyle says notcing the small box I was holding it was so tiny compared to the other boys gifts.
"Sorry! I couldn't help it. It would be werid if I didn't get you a gift kyle. It's your birthday after all."
"Seriously you didn't have too." their was a small silence Kyle looked handsome in his suit, though his green hat stood out. You didn't question it.
"bu-bu-bu-bu" Ike voice was heard from down the hall as the little boy walks down the hall when he enters the room, he enters and made his way to the boy's and Y/n though no one had noticed yet.
"So Y/n do you go to the same school as the boys?" Sheila asks you.
"Yeah I only joined like a month or two ago- huh?" you feel something wrap around your legs and see a tiny little boy their hugging your leg.
"IKE GET BACK HERE! SORRY SHEILA HE GOT AWAY!" a man with a jewish hat on his head.
"IS this your brother kyle?" Y/n asks kyle who sighs at his little brother.
"Yeah, Ike come here-" "NO!" he shouts, Kyle eye brows cross.
"Ike come on-" "NOOOO!" he screams Y/n chuckles at how frusterated kyle was getting.
"Kyle your brother got a crush on Y/n!" Stan teases, making kenny burst out laughing.
"hi Ike could you let go of me for a second please? just a second." And like that Ike obeys your request you kneel down to his hight and pick the boy up.
"Your brother adorable Kyle!" "NONONONONONONONO!" Ike shouts making Kenny laugh harder and stan chuckle. even Kyles mum joined in a little.
"isn't that adorable Kyle! Your brother likes your little friend!" Kyle bit his tongue at the scene as his father tried to take back ike, but he gripped onto your dress tightly hidding his face in your neck.
"I'm so sorry about this?"
" Y/n nice to meet you sir." the mans eyes widden slightly.
"You have very good manners young lady, but I am sorry about Ike Shelia could you?"
"come on Ike let the poor girl go!" Ike lets go of your and heads to his mother, You give an awkard smile at this. as Ike is passes off to Kyle's dad.
"It was lovely meeting you Y/n," "you too sir." "oh just Gerald! anyway have fun boys!"
___________________________________________
by now everyone was there, Kenny, stan me, Kyle. Everyone but butters. which was weird, butters were normally on time for these things.
Kyle was pacing the room while waiting for butters.
"so, what did you guys get Kyle?" I ask
"A new video game Minecraft the one he wanted and some other games."
"I got him a controller for his Xbox."
Y/n thinks about their gift they were pricier than mine they probably thought about it longer. Maybe I shouldn't give him the gist? no that would look rude now!
"what did you get him?"
"umm-"
"Where are butters? we were supposed to leave 40 minutes ago!" Kyle asks looking down at his watch.
"Well, I think we just go without him Kyle! it's getting late!" his mum says.
"Yeah, screw him let's go." Kyle says We quickly get ready to leave, when the doorbell rang.
"Oh, there he is!" Kyle goes to open the door, and none other than Cartman appears. to be honest I was not impressed.
"Happy birthday Kyle I just wanted to stop by and give you your present." cartman says Kyle took his present and I couldn't help but role my eyes at this. he obviously did something to come. it's cartman were talking about here! the whole scene I was just giving him a side eye. then butter parents came looking for him. I was shocked, and scared for my friend Butters. Where could he of gone?! I only just saw him friday!
"Dude I can't have a part while butters are missing that weird." Kyle
cartman tries to convince him otherwise almost slipping up.
"How about we go looking for him?"
"Yeah, he always by starks pound he's always over their!" stan add we all cheer and Sheila says she will drive us.
"I hope butters okay." I mutter under my breath as we get into the car
"I'm sure he's fine Y/n, w-we'll just keep. looking.
"Yeah!"
"don't worry Y/n we'll find him." the guy's words make you smile a little, you didn't hang out with this gang much normally with your cousin craig and his gang or with Wendy's. You and butters being super close thanks to your similar personality's.
You sure hope he is okay. :(

Quote
Its axiomatic famousness is essentially a modern phenomenon. Early commentators enthused, but they did not seem to consider the painting particularly extraordinary or unique. The elevation of the Mona Lisa to iconic status happened in the mid nineteenth century; it was born out of northern Europe’s fascination with the Italian Renaissance in general, and Leonardo in particular, and it was given a particular Gallic, or indeed Parisian, twist by the presence of the painting in the Louvre. Her image became bound up with the morbid Romantic fantasy of the femme fatale: that idea of an ensnaring, exotic belle dame sans merci which so exercised the male imagination at that time. An important figure in the Gioconda’s elevation to fatal status was the novelist, art-critic and hashish-smoker Théophile Gautier. For him she was ‘this sphinx of beauty who smiles so mysteriously’; her ‘divinely ironic’ gaze intimates ‘unknown pleasures’; she ‘seems to pose a yet unsolved riddle to the admiring centuries’; and so on. In a telling aside during one of his rhapsodies, he remarks, ‘She makes you feel like a schoolboy before a duchess.’ Another who quaked in her presence was the historian and Renaissance-enthusiast Jules Michelet. Looking at her, he wrote, ‘you are fascinated and troubled as if by a strange magnetism’; she ‘attracts me, revolts me, consumes me; I go to her in spite of myself, as the bird to the snake’. Similarly, in the Goncourt brothers’ journal for 1860, a famous beauty of the day is described as ‘like a sixteenth-century courtesan’ who wears ‘the smile full of night of the Gioconda’. Thus the Mona Lisa was co-opted into a chorus-line of dangerous beauties alongside such luminaries as Zola’s Nana, Wedekind’s Lulu, and Baudelaire’s Creole belle Jeanne Duval.  The famous description of the painting by the Victorian aesthete Walter Pater, first published in 1869, was certainly influenced by this extended bout of Gallic swooning. Yeats later paid Pater’s flagrantly purple prose the compliment of chopping it up into free verse, in which form it sits more happily:  She is older than the rocks among which she sits; Like the vampire, She has been dead many times, And learned the secrets of the grave; And has been a diver in deep seas, And keeps their fallen day about her… Oscar Wilde comments perceptively on this seductive Pateresque blarney, ‘The picture becomes more wonderful to us than it really is, and reveals to us a secret of which, in truth, it knows nothing.’ But the idea of the Mona Lisa’s ‘secret’ continued to reverberate. In E. M. Forster’s A Room with a View (1908), Lucy Honeychurch’s sojourn in Tuscany gives her a touch of the Gioconda mystery – ‘He detected in her a wonderful reticence. She was like a woman of Leonardo da Vinci’s, whom we love not so much for herself as for the things she will not tell us.’  Others reacted more sceptically, as in Somerset Maugham’s novel Christmas Holiday (1939), where a quartet of art-lovers ‘gazed at the insipid smile of that prim and sex-starved young woman’. Iconoclastic young critics like Roberto Longhi poured scorn on the painting, and even Bernard Berenson – though hardly daring to question ‘a shaman so potent’ as Pater – confessed to his covert dislike of this revered work: ‘She had simply become an incubus.’ When T. S. Eliot called Hamlet ‘the Mona Lisa of literature’ he meant it in a negative sense: that the play was no longer seen for what it was, but had become, like the painting, a receptacle for subjective interpretations and second-rate theories. The other life-changing event in the career of the Mona Lisa was her abduction from the Louvre on the morning of Monday 21 August 1911. The thief was a thirty-year-old Italian painter-decorator and petty criminal, Vincenzo Perugia. Born in the village of Dumenza, near Lake Como, he had been in Paris since 1908, one of thousands of Italian immigrants in the city – the macaroni, as the French dubbed them. He had worked briefly at the Louvre, which was why he was able to get into the building unchallenged – and out again, carrying the Mona Lisa stuffed under his workman’s smock. A police hunt ensued, but despite his criminal record, and despite his having left a large thumb-print on the frame, Perugia’s name never came up. Among those suspected of involvement were Picasso and Apollinaire; the latter was imprisoned briefly, and wrote a poem about it. Perugia kept the painting in his lodgings, hidden under a stove, for more than two years. Then, in late November 1913, he sent a letter to an antique-dealer in Florence, Alfredo Geri, offering to ‘return’ the Mona Lisa to Italy. He demanded 500,000 lire. The letter was signed ‘Leonardo Vincenzo’. On 12 December, Perugia arrived in Florence, by train, with the Mona Lisa in a wooden trunk, ‘a sort of seaman’s locker’; he checked into a low-rent hotel, the Albergo Tripoli-Italia on Via Panzani (still in business, though now called – what else? – the Hotel La Gioconda). Here, in the presence of Alfredo Geri and Giovanni Poggi, the director of the Uffizi, Perugia opened the trunk, revealing some old shoes and woollen underclothes; then – as Geri relates – ‘after taking out these not very appetizing objects [he] lifted up the false bottom of the trunk, under which we saw the picture… We were filled with a strong emotion. Vincenzo looked at us with a kind of fixed stare, smiling complacently, as if he had painted it himself.’ He was arrested later that day. Efforts were made to turn Perugia into a cultural hero, but at his trial he proved a disappointment. He said he had first intended to steal Mantegna’s Mars and Venus, but had decided on the Mona Lisa instead because it was smaller. He was imprisoned for twelve months; he died in 1947.  The theft and recovery of the Mona Lisa were the clinching of her international celebrity. Both unleashed a swarm of newspaper features, commemorative postcards, cartoons, ballads, cabaret-revues and comic silent films. These are the heralds of the painting’s modern existence as global pop-icon. Marcel Duchamp’s defaced Gioconda of 1919, saucily entitled L.H.O.O.Q (i.e. ‘Elle a chaud au cul’, or ‘She’s hot in the arse’) is the most famous of the send-ups, though it is pre-dated by more than twenty years by the pipe-smoking Mona Lisa drawn by the illustrator Sapeck (Eugene Battaile). And so the way was open for Warhol’s multiple Gioconda (Thirty are Better than One); for Terry Gilliam’s animated Gioconda in the Monty Python title sequence; for William Gibson’s ‘sprawl novel’ Mona Lisa Overdrive; for the classic citations in Cole Porter’s ‘You’re the Top’, Nat King Cole’s ‘Mona Lisa’ and Bob Dylan’s ‘Vision of Johanna’; for the joint-smoking poster and the novelty mouse-pad. Personally I suspect that I first became aware of the Mona Lisa through the Jimmy Clanton hit of 1962, which began: She’s Venus in blue jeans, Mona Lisa with a pony tail…  I’m not sure the ponytail would suit her, but the song’s wonderful bubble-gum blandness illustrates well enough the fate that has befallen this mysterious and beautiful painting.

Book Review: Tender is the Night
F. Scott Fitzgerald remains one of the most revered American authors. Naturally, in my attempt to read as many American classics in 2018, Fitzergerald shot up the list. His books are short. They revolve around socialite degradation in the jazz age. They are stimulant and alcohol inspired. What's not to like?
In an effort to reserve This Side of Paradise and The Great Gatsby for a later time, I decided on Tender is the Night as my introduction. Published in its entirety in 1934, it would be Fitzgerald's final complete novel. Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings described the book as "disturbing, bitter, and beautiful." Fitzgerald, himself, in a scrawled note to a friend said, "Gatsby was a tour de force but this is a confession of faith."
The Book
The story revolves around the chaotic history and life of Dick and Nicole Diver and the debutante Rosemary Hoyt. Thematically, the book sticks close to what Fitzgerald apparently knew from personal experience—young love, disillusioned lust, alcoholism, and mental instability. The characters revolving in the world of the Divers and Miss Hoyt help serve as foils to the progressive trainwreck of the main characters. It is beautiful and tragic.
Though potentially dated in its pacing, I thoroughly enjoyed the intelligent descriptions and introspective characters of Fitzgerald. Far from setting forward perfect or prefect-ing type characters, Tender is the Night offers a somber look at the Diver's rocky relationship through mental illness and dependency. There are a realness and sincerity to them that is cringe-inducing. There is a naivety to the young actress (Rosemary Hoyt) that manifests itself patiently in growing disinterest in the love of her mother and first serious crush.
Using the psychiatrist Dick Diver as a foil to much of his own turmoil, Fitzgerald injects his own struggles with alcohol, producing books, lust for young actresses, and conflict with a lover suffering from mental illness. The sadness can only be understood in light of the beginning. Once the physical presence that stopped the novel in its tracks, Diver retires from the story in anonymity:
"In any case he is almost certainly in that section of the country, in one town or another." (315)
The Audiobook
Narrated by Therese Plummer, the audiobook of Tender is the Night was fantastic. Plummer is an outstanding reader with wonderful pacing and sufficient accents.
In particular, I found that she added character depth to Rosemary Hoyt and Nichole Diver in a manner that emphasized the highs and lows of both women. With separate portions of the serialized novel emphasizing both women, Plummer's reading helps grasp both women's dynamic love and eventual disinterest in Dick Diver. I dare say, the book could only be best read by a female character lending strength to these women as they interact with Dr. Dick Diver.
In conclusion, Tender is the Night reads like an Americanized Greek tragedy. Fitzgerald's brilliance and own struggles shine throughout. There are perfect sentences crowded among a paragraph of clutter. But in the end, the imperfections only serve to drive the story deeper. I wish I had read this novel twenty years ago.
Favorite Sentence: "But the space between heaven and earth had cooled his mind" (38)

L'identité du tueur qui a égorgé cinq femmes fait l'objet de folles spéculations. Retour sur cette énigme criminelle, en partenariat avec RetroNews. Par Valentine Arama
Tumblr media
« L'identité de Jack l'Éventreur révélée », « Jack the Ripper enfin démasqué », « l'ADN a parlé »…

JLT TRIUMPH HURDLE
1.30: GRADE ONE – 2 MILES
There is a real chance SIR EREC has been truly tested over hurdles, but the long run from the second-last to the final flight should play the strengths of a horse rated 105 on the Flat. Third to the mighty Stradivarius in an Ascot Group Two last October, the selection, trained by Joseph O'Brien, made the running in the Spring Juvenile Hurdle at Leopardstown, sprinting away from Gardens Of Babylon after the last to win cosily – and that has often proved one of the best trials for this race. The Paul Nicholls duo, Quel Destin and Pic D’Orhy, are much respected. The former has become a winning machine this winter, while Pic D'Orhy is potentially a high-class hurdler and could surprise.
BEST BET: SIR EREC 1-1
NEXT BEST: PIC D'ORHY 8-1
RANDOX HEALTH COUNTY HURDLE
2.10: GRADE THREE – 2 MILES
Dan Skelton has stamped himself as a target trainer or note and this looks to have the plan for a good while with CH'TIBELLO. Thought good enough to run in the Champion Hurdle last year, the eight-year-old has had a wind operation since running a fine race behind Midnight Shadow at Aintree and the form received a boost when the selection's conqueror followed up in a Grade Two at Cheltenham on his next start. Paul Nicholls has his horses in terrific form, so Capitaine is feared, along with Imperial Cup runner-up Monsieur Lecoq, who is reunited with Lizzie Kelly. But last year's Triumph Hurdle runner-up Mr Adjudicator catches the eye as the chief threat, given the chased home Champion Hurdle hero Espoir D'Allen on his comeback.
BEST BET: CH'TIBELLO 15- 2
NEXT BEST: MR ADJUDICATOR 12-1
ALBERT BARTLETT NOVICES 'HURDLE
2.50: GRADE ONE – 2 MILES 7 FURLONGS
This can be a brutal race for novices and, with winners at 33-1 (three times), 16-1, 14-1 and 11-1 in the past nine runnings, it is a difficult one for punters. However, trainer Rebecca Curtis delivered in grand style for backers in the 2013 renewal with At Fishers Cross and LISNAGAR OSCAR could give the Welsh handler a notable Grade One double. The likeable son of Oscar was hugely impressive at Haydock last time in winning the Grade Two trial and the change of gear he displayed – despite finding the track sharp – to leave the talented Ask Ben toiling after the last was a breakthrough performance. He already boasts form on the track and saw off Dickie Diver at Chepstow, so boasts excellent credentials.
BEST BET: LISNAGAR OSCAR 13-2
NEXT BEST: The RRINROSS 12- 1
Presenting Percy (left) has a major chance of a third straight Festival win on Friday
CHELTENHAM GOLD CUP
3.30: GRADE ONE – 3 MILES 2 FURLONGS
There is little doubt that PRESENTING PERCY has had an unusual preparation for a leading Gold Cup contender but concentrating on his racecourse performances suggested he has a major chance of a third straight Festival win. Davy Russell enjoyed an armchair ride aboard the eight-year-old in last season's RSA Chase, when his mount was produced to pick off the classy Monalee (Elegant Escape well back in third), and he's likely to have the race run to suit again. Every drop of rain plays to the strengths of reigning champion Native River, who should enjoy the return to a favored venue after acquiring himself well under conditions which doesn't suit this term. Last year's gallant third, Anibal Fly, appeals as a place contender again.
BEST BET: PRESENTING PERCY 7-2
NEXT BEST: NATIVE RIVER 9 -2
FOXHUNTER CHASE
4.10: CLASS TWO – 3 MILES 2 FURLONGS
This is a fascinating renewal with Stand Up And Fight and Ucello Conti representing two Irish powerhouses and, with five of the first seven home from last year's running also in the field, it looks like a cracking contest. It almost goes without saying the leading Irish hopes will take some stopping, but CAID DU BERLAIS, fifth 12 months ago, looked in great form when winning by 25 lengths on his Bishops Court comeback a fortnight ago. The selection is likely to be another patient ride by the excellent Will Biddick, who was on board when the validation slammed Timewaitsfornoone at Punchestown. Top Wood gave it a brilliant go from the front last year and could do well again.
BEST BET: CAID DU BERLAIS 8-1
NEXT BEST : TOP WOOD 25-1
GRAND ANNUAL HANDICAP CHASE
4.50: GRADE 3 – 2 MILES
This is sure to be fast and furious and lightly-raced chasers have enjoyed considerable success in recent renewals, so Magic Saint, Not Another Muddle and Whatswrongwithyou will all have their supporters. The layers have recognized the trend, though, so the trio are reluctantly overlooked in favor of BUN DO RAN who has a decent track form and is a much better horse following an absence. The last four winners didn't run after mid-December, so the 90-day break shouldn't harm the selection's chances. Marracudja is a little more exposed than ideal but he has finished first and second on his two course starts.
BEST BET: BUN DO RAN 14-1
NEXT BEST: MARRACUDJA 14-1
MARTIN PIPE CONDITIONAL JOCKEYS '
5.30: HANDICAP – 2 MILES 4 FURLONGS
EARLY had no answer to a shrewd tactical ride by Donagh Meyler aboard Blow By Blow in this race 12 months ago, but he is a year older and slightly better ground may help him see this test more convincingly. Two preparation runs in Grade One events behind Apple's Jade this winter have ensured the selection handicap mark has not suffered too badly and the booking of a highly talented conditional rider, Jonjo O’Neill Jnr, could be the last piece of the jigsaw. Coach Gordon Elliott is always afraid of this race and Dallas Des Pictons has a long leg for this event. However, Cartwright and Defi Bleu catch the eye and the money this week has been for the former, who left a positive impression about two miles at Leopardstown last month.
BEST BET: EARLY DOORS 13-2
NEXT BEST: CARTWRIGHT 8-1
PETER SCUDAMORE – EIGHT TIMES CHAMPION JOCKEY
I HAVE maximum respect for Colin Tizzard's Native River and Thistle Crack in the Gold Cup but PRESENTING PERCY is my pick.
His Festival form is special and I am not worried about him not having run over fences this season. Training techniques have changed and trainers have much more to help them get a horse fit and ready to run, as well as being able to give them schooling practice to jump away from the track.
It's well documented that Presenting Percy has had two recent sessions around Galway race course to sharpen him up.
King George VI Chase winner Clan Des Obeaux has had a great season but I have reservations about how he will cope with the final quarter mile. The three-and-quarter miles is further than the run before and frontrunner Native River will make it an exacting test.
SIR EREC is the day's most likely winner in the Triumph Hurdle while DA LLAS THE S PICTONS, representing last year's winning trainer-jockey combination, was an impressive winner last time and looks the solution to the concluding Martin Pipe Conditional Jockeys Handicap Hurdle.
HAYLEY MOORE – PRESENTER FOR SKY SPORTS RACING
Some high-profile stables are represented in the Albert Bartlett Novices' Hurdle but the fact The RRINROSS is trained by the lesser known Philip Dempsey and ridden by his son Luke might mean he gets a little overlooked
That would be a mistake. This season has won two graded hurdles, comfortably brushing aside in the first of them Sams Profile, who was a decent fifth in Wednesday's Ballymore Novices ’Hurdle. Favorite Birchdale has looked good but the horse is inexperienced and worth taking on.
Trainer Joseph O'Brien has a strong grip on the juvenile hurdle division. He can land the JCB Triumph Hurdle with SIR EREC and I wouldn't be surprised if stablemate Gardens of Babylon is the biggest danger.
I am excited about the chances of my father's NOT ANOTHER MUDD LE in the Grand Annual Handicap Chase. He is improving and the strong gallop will suit.
DALLAS DES PICTONS, who has only leg in his last three runs by Ballymore Novices' Hurdle winner City Island, can land the concluding Martin Pipe Conditional Jockeys Handicap Hurdle, a race trainer Gordon Elliott always targets.
CAPTAIN HEATH (MARCUS WANDING)
PRESENTING PERCY looks like he could be something special in the Gold Cup, while in the Albert Bartlett ALLAHO, trained by Willie Mullins, appears to have a huge future after being thrown into a decent race at Clonmel last month and winning easily.
FORMCAST (NIGEL TAYLOR)
Road To Rome has won all his four starts in hunter chases this season, and gained victory by a wide margin in a competitive race at Haydock last month. On that form, Road To Rome is a good bet to win again today.
CAPTAIN HEATH'S SELECTIONS
1.30 SIR EREC EVENS
2.10 CH'TIBELLO 8-1
2.50 ALLAHO 6-1
3.30 PRESENTING PERCY 7-2
4.10 HAZEL HILL 11-2
4.50 MAGIC SAINT 5-1
5.30 CARTWRIGHT 8-1
FORMCAST'S SELECTIONS
1.30 SIR EREC EVENS
2.10 MONSIEUR LECOQ 12-1
2.50 BIRCHDALE 11-2
CLAN DES OBEAUX 11-2
4.10 ROAD TO ROME 8-1
4.50 LE PREZIEN 8-1
5.30 LE MUSEE 33-1
BEAT THE FAVORITE
Our football expert s like to go against the grain with their tips. Here are their picks to trounce Friday's fancied runners …
JAMIE REDKNAPP: DICKIE DIVER (2.50)
CHRIS SUTTON: CUT THE MUSTARD (2.10)
WINNERS ENCLOSURE – BEST BETS, BEST ODDS WITH LADBROKES 'NICOLA McGEADY
Presenting Percy heads the Gold Cup betting as the attempts to win at the Festival for a third consecutive year. He may have had an unconventional prep, but I didn't ask trainer Pat Kelly.
Davy Russell is on board and he has the utmost faith in the horse, as do I. If he turns up in the same form as last year, he is the best in the race. In the Triumph Hurdle, it's hard to pick holes in the form of sir erec. He looks the real deal.
In the Albert Bartlett Novices' Hurdle, Derrin oss represents the value for me. He's battle hardened, he'll like the ground, the vibes are positive and he's 10-1.
THE BOOKIES 'VIEW
Day Three of the Festival was Black Thursday for the bookmakers despite Eglantine Du Seuil's shock win in the Dawn Run Mares' Hurdle.
The 50-1 shot was chased home by 66-1 and 40-1 chances as the Tote paid out a massive Trifecta dividend or almost £ 74,000. But by then bookmakers claimed the damage was done, with a set of results Coral estimated cost the betting industry £ 50m.
After a day when three favorites won and all but one of the seven winners was returned at single figure odds, Coral spokesman Dave Stevens said: "We thought Wednesday was bad, when favorites won the last four races, but that seemed like a good day compared to this afternoon.
" Defi Du Seuil and Sire Du Berlais kept the winning run for favorites going in the opening two races, before the popular Bryony Frost gained the second Festival win on Frodon. That set the scene for Paisley Park's victory in the Stayers' Hurdle and then Siruh Du Lac and Lizzie Kelly got in on the act. "It was a day we'd like to forget but we'll find it hard to."

Getting to Know the Blue Mind Life
Our ever-quickening pace of life and constant demands on our attention make it difficult to take time out to relax. But doing so is not only desirable — it’s absolutely necessary for our health. One of the best ways to feel better is to connect with the power of water and enjoy time with the ocean. And that’s where blue mind comes in.
What is blue mind?
Originally the title of a bestselling book by Dr. Wallace J. Nichols, ‘blue mind’ is a concept that explores the calming effect that water has on people. It is, according to Nichols, the “surprising science that shows how being near, in, on, or underwater can make you happier, healthier, more connected, and better at what you do.”
Blue mind is a mildly meditative and relaxed state people enter when they connect with water somehow. We know that when people spend time in nature, their brains and bodies respond physiologically and thought patterns change. The blue-mind concept expands on this idea and explores how time near water results in more focus on innovation, connectedness, and relaxation. And those can only be good things given today’s hectic lifestyles.
What are the benefits of blue mind?
The benefits of blue mind are huge. A blue mind is relaxed and able to innovate, succeed, remove boundaries to creativity, and focus on the bigger picture. It is an enabling state of mind that positively impacts wellbeing, reduces stress, and improves relaxation. All of these can be helpful in daily life, as well as when scuba diving. A clear mind is essential for making the right decisions underwater and for enjoying safe dives. In contrast, a red state of mind is typified by lack of choices, limitations, boundaries and the inability to think freely or with an open mind. This type of mindset commonly accompanies stress and frustration.
How can divers achieve blue mind?
Divers can achieve the calm of blue mind when they spend time with water. Island hopping and diving in warm, clear waters, such as when Maldives liveaboard diving, is certainly going to help. Being on and in the water while spending time with like-minded ocean fans is a great way to encourage a relaxed state of being.
There are other ways to achieve a blue mind, such as when taking a shower, watering the garden, walking alongside water, admiring a view of water, or when swimming. In other words, blue mind is possible any time a person is in contact with water. You can also induce this state when meditating by focusing on water-based scenes.
How can divers get involved in promoting blue mind?
The 100 Days of Blue campaign, run by Blue Mind Life, asks people to get in, on, near or underwater daily for 100 days and to share their experiences through their networks and on social media platforms. The campaign aims to expand peoples’ awareness of the vital role the ocean plays in human health and wellbeing. Divers can get involved by getting out there, diving, and sharing their experiences online with the #bluemind tag. The campaign begins on Memorial Day and ends on Labor Day each year.
