knitting club (Thomas Thorne x Reader drabble)
note: hi fellas. this is my first time writing something like this and POSTING it. I'm a little nervous ngl! But just bear with me I swear I'll improve 😊. anywho! feel free to shoot some silly little requests my way!
Also! apologies if you don't have any clue about knitting, I personally do and I based this off a singular Thomas quote LOL.
------
The club meetings Alison was hosting in the home proved to be bothersome for some of the ghosts, annoyed at how many people were visiting the house every day. Between the AA meetings and just the most random topics you could ever think of being discussed, it was something not everyone was entirely interested in. Though everyone loved to tune into the AA meeting every once in a while, for some juicy stories.
You on the other hand? You stuck around for all the art based clubs, it reminded you of when you were alive and could do all this work with your hands.
The knitting club proved to be one that you could watch for hours, it's one of the hobbies you missed a lot. Looking around at all of the cute creations everyone was making and talking about their families and different stories they had from the day filled your soul with a sort of warmth.
As this week's meeting began, you sat on the old beat up couch, watching all the young, old, women and men fill the seats, excited about what progress they made over the week. Unbeknownst to you though, a certain poet was walking past the room to see you sitting in there alone, with the group that had no idea you were there.
Thomas was never really fond of the knitting club, he felt it was boring and it wasn’t worth his time to sit and watch other people knit while talking about their grandkids or their in-laws. But maybe he could learn to like it? Maybe just for you?
He walked into the room silently as you were enchanted by all the people getting ready to start the meeting. “Good evening dear (Y/N),” Thomas greets you with a slight bow and a polite smile on his face. You light up and wave to him “Hi! Are you here for the knitting club? I thought you didn’t like them?” Thomas freezes up before responding with a quick agreement. “I just thought I might’ve judged them a little too hard at first, so I thought I would give them another chance,” this makes you smile and you go back to watching the group.
He had to admit it's not as boring as he remembered, but it still wasn’t super enjoyable for him. But boy did it make him gleam seeing you get up and tell him what everyone was making and why.
By the end of the meeting, he learned one of the older women was making a blanket for her new grandson, and a young man was making a hat for his wife as a Christmas gift. Part of him wished he could do something like that for you, just because he realized how excited you get about this stuff.
“Say (Y/N), did you know how to knit when you were living? You seem to know quite a bit.” You nod, “It was a big hobby of mine. I spent a lot of time and money on blankets and hats, which now thinking about it, probably paid off. Because now my family has something handmade to remember me.” You smile, but it hurts to think about sometimes.
Thomas reads you like a book, he realizes how emotional you are getting. He places a supportive hand on your shoulder.
You both lock eyes, getting lost with one another. Thomas soon breaks eye contact to glance over at the people knitting mindlessly.
“I know that being stuck here isn’t ideal, and not being able to do the things you love isn’t ideal either. But isn’t it splendid you can still appreciate it? Even if you cannot do it, isn’t the true gift appreciation?” He states, so matter of factly you can’t even begin to argue. “That was actually very poetic.” Both of you smile at each other.
“I also appreciate you, Thomas.”
“I feel the same exact way, my dearest.”
-----
I hope you all enjoyed! Probably not the best work ever, but I thought it was cute :)

simon riley x waitstaff!reader
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
thank you to those who liked my first post <3 i am still v new to this and haven't quite figured out my preferred writing style so all feedback is welcome (be respectful tho).
part one
part two
right so at ur work it’s real common to have military folk there bc it is a military town, close to base, training facilities etc.
first visit was just to the bar section of the place. price thought it would be good for moral to go out and have some chill team time, watch a football match and just hang out.
soap ordered some food and you brought it over to them. simon did not notice you bc he was watching the game, but then he got a whiff of soaps food and decided to grab something.
cue you coming back over with your sweet smile and handing him his food and cutlery before wandering back to the resturant bc its a quiet night.
mans is hooked.
second time ghost comes in it’s at night again but the restaurant is slammed bc it’s family week, everyone is getting dinner the night before they gotta head home.
lbr, simon didnt think about you until soap wanted to go out again: "where are we goin'" "that place with the pretty server", knows exactly where they are going.
but still, your smile and warmth towards everyone is so kind and customer service is through the roof. yet he watches as you race around in and out of the kitchen with crazy ease and grace
like dude is impressed at you staying calm and steady despite how fuckin busy it is and people with their insane requests and demands for food (inpatient pricks)
he wants to stick around and watch u but it has become way to loud and busy for him so he bows out and goes back to his quiet room
simon strikes me as someone that likes to have as much regularity in his life as possible, why do you think 141 are literally the only people he has relationships with???
but mainly forms this routine bc he gets to see you, and he knows you will be there bc you’ve old him its your regular shift.
"you basically live here."
"haha no, i just make sure i get the shift with you."
the restaurant would make the booking for him in advance cause he never does but you know he is coming anyway so have it under ‘y/n's man’ (hasn’t told you his name) and ur coworkers think its super cute and funny
but he would make the effort to come in when it is quiet and has the chance to actually listen to you talk and see you interact with others on a more relaxed level BUT he wouldn’t be opposed to seeing you rushing around tables and weaving between guests who haven’t sat down
ngl he would find it hot watching you manage several orders and memorising different peoples requirements, all while keeping that sweet smile and polite manner
you can carry three plates?! this man is sweating under the mask
he doesn’t do a lot of the talking, only when you really prompt him or he is feeling a bit more extroverted that day. Doesn’t wanna talk about military shit with you but that’s all he does so he prefers to listen to you.
knows all the drama and gossip of the restaurant. glad to hear you are not dating the guy behind the bar and that you also don't like the receptionist because he perfume is to strong.
he will hang around and wait for it to die down to be able to talk to you. if it gets too loud for him he might just try and see you at the till as he leaves but has pushed through once or twice to talk to you.
something about you makes him feel more real, that he isn’t just some shell of a man, that he has a purpose. he likes that you treat him normally, the fresh slate you give him is like clean evening air.
ANYWAY it would take him ages to ask you out, like more than six/ seven months, and he would be so nervous (not to the point of stuttering or shaking bc this man is military he has been in worse situations, but his heart would be running a marathon and the self doubt would be just as loud)
but also protective ghost omgggg, he would be seething watching the old men be creepy and shit
knife and fork are down and he is up behind these men leering over them “excuse me, I just have a question about my meal.” just would say anything to get you out of that situation and back over to him. Or would just stand by the register staring down these men (this happens a lot more often than simon would like to admit)
always checks in when he is leaving to make sure he didn’t over step or make you uncomfortable by accident

Hii. I'm not sure how to phrase this question, but how does one draw the line between the most effective way of getting people into engaging critically with art and politics (which is imo, being nice and encouraging and yes coddling a little bit people's fragile egos) and expressing your own discontent with people's lack of curiosity and desire to learn and form well funded opinions beyond base level takes, paired with an immovable conviction that anything that isn't immediately comfortable (such as your blorbo show (?) Being criticized) must be Evil.
What I mean is that as an individual you'd want to basically shake these people who shut down every discussion with the slogan Let People Enjoy Things, and rightfully call them idiots for throwing a tantrum at the grown age of 36 because someone said maybe watching something other than Steven universe would be good or whatever, but on the other hand telling people they are unintelligent for exclusively engaging with surface level ideas/ uninspired art does Not encourage anyone who does that into going beyond that comfort zone. At the same time tho it does feel like you're doing airplane sounds so the baby eats the pudding without crying. You cannot condescend anyone into critical thought but the fact that so many people are unwilling to engage in it out of laziness is making everyone's life worse. How do we get out of that point ig is my question. Sorry if that made 0 sense English isn't my first language :P hope you're having a good day/night
idk i honestly get very annoyed by watching people or interacting with people who respond to any mild critical thought with some iteration of 'let people enjoy things' and 'youre being elitist for not liking the popular thing,' and a million other things. ngl i dont think tumblr is also the greatest place for like... scholarly discourse although it can actually be quite productive for it somethings. but a lot of people genuinely dont want to look into shit. theres an attitude here (not just on tumblr but i just think in the capitalist west) of incuriosity and its difficult to say how to overcomme. for example ill post links to books and essays about a topic and have people complain that i dont specify what chapters to read. this pisses me off to no end and i end up ranting about it and probably coming off like a dick lol. thus the posts...
i also do post like essays and articles and shit that i think explains my position on this and the theoretical basis for it, and if people ask questions ill try to explain any concepts and give recommendations for stuff to read about mass culture and cultural criticism. i think this has been more productive, idk. i dont think political education and class consciousness will rise from social media though, which is where these tendencies are allowed to develop to the extreme. organization and education irl will be the most fruitful, but still i just think to show people the stuff that influenced me and how i think of it is a net positive. ty and same to you

hello hello! if u ever do decide to get more into prime defenders, the first seven episodes are a little iffy but i can attest to it getting better (WAY WAY better) after that, and apparently season 2 is even better. so it might be worth getting into at some point if ur interested ^^
also would HIGHLY recommend blood in the bayou if u like horror because. my god it’s my favorite campaign BY A LOT which is saying something cuz i love all the campaigns i’ve listened to so much, but blood in the bayou hits different. it’s run by charlie, very horror based with a really cool premise that charlie executed fantastically, and it’s only got four episodes ^^
either way i’ve finally caught up w riptide and can finally go through your art for it and oh boy it’s literally so so so cool i’m losing my mind, i love how you draw la alma he is so friend shaped
i hope you’re having a great day, and be sure to Just Roll With It! (<- very funny yet incredibly subtle reference. i’m so tired)
hehehhehe i love the reference >:)c always hear it in grizzly's voice in my head ("and just roll with it baybee!!") and also waaa thank you, i love drawing la alma <3 kitty <3 need to draw more of him, but also there's so many cool npc's that i also want to draw aughh not enough hours in a day smh i need twice as much, maybe thrice.....
about other campaigns!
i think someone said in the tags (or replies, don't remember) under my post that first 7 episodes of pd were kinda eh, and it did feel like the first episodes were less serious and less engaging. like, literally my favorite characters after watching them are tide and wavelength, which is like???? one of them barely talked even. but i do believe that it gets better, i saw some of the art and it looks amazing and super interesting!
blood in the bayou. im so absolutely INSANE about. charlie as a dm is SO fucking good im kicking screaming and crying im not normal. everything from the voices he does to the way he explains things and creates atmosphere to the way he treats players and characters augghhbhhbbbbb words cannot explain how much i love it. i LOVE blood in the bayou, its literally perfect in every aspect. the setting, the game, the art (dont get me started on the art), augh augh augh augh--
both of them (and apotheosis!!!) are on patreon tho, which i sadly don't have access to, no matter how bad i want to watch them or to know what happens next. don't want to get into politics much, but. its not that i don't have 10 dollars or however much the lowest tear is, patreon just doesn't work where i live. same as spotify, paypal, steam, and all the other payed services. vpn works for twitter, instagram, ao3, tiktok, but everything that includes banks and dealing with money and paperwork doesn't get fixed by just changing connection unfortunately. it has its benefits, i don't get ads on youtube or twitch, but everything else sucks. and atm the only real way to deal with it is move to another country... (which sounds pretty good, ngl)

after seeing @new-york-no-shoes’s post about cold as you, I decided to revisit taylor’s 2009 rolling stone interview to find a quote I couldn’t remember the source of, and this is a gold mine ngl. here are some highlights (but apparently this is not the rolling stone interview I was searching for💀)
“I’ve never seen this country so happy about a political decision in my entire time of being alive,” she says. “I’m so glad this was my first election.”
Says Borchetta, “Taylor and I made an aggressive deal on the back end.” He chuckles. “I’ve written her some very big checks,” he says. (💀)
I feel like whatever you say about whether you do or don’t, it makes people picture you naked,” she says, self-assuredly. “And as much as possible, I’m going to avoid that. It’s self-preservation, really.”
Swift admits that she was fascinated by girls like Paris Hilton when she was younger — in a rare moment of prurience, she notes that her high school football team was named the Commandos, then laughs wryly — but says that she never thought the gossip about these women was true. “You should never judge a person until you know the full story,” she explains, matter-of-factly.
In a way, Swift’s emotional state seems to be stuck at the time when she left school. She says that she has only a half-dozen friends now — “and that’s a lot for me” — and she talks constantly about her best friend, Abigail, a competitive swimmer and freshman at Kansas State, with a new nose ring and a new pet snake, doubtlessly having many experiences that Swift may not be ready for. In fact, Swift is a very young 19-year-old. “I feel like Miley, Selena and Demi are my age,” she says at one point, acknowledging the fast-paced lives of her Los Angeles-based contemporaries. “It’s crazy, I always forget that they’re 16.”
She maintains that marriage is something she would “only do if I find the person I absolutely can’t live without” and “it’s not my ultimate goal in life.”
She’s an unsure, semi-reckless driver, hitting the brake too hard, pointing the car this way and that at various intersections like she’s tacking a boat. She screams, “Five-oh!” as she spots a cop, then pulls into a drive-through Starbucks. “I’ve been in three accidents, but none of them were my fault,” she wails.

Hello. I don't post in fandom often but I've gotta put in my two cents. Yes. It is me. The Ingo Hisui team headcanon dude. I made a whole ass side blog. 😔
Ngl I think that Emmet reaching the 'he's dead' closure is a compelling path to take, and one I think a lot of people are just- avoiding because of a fear of grief. But listen ok lemme explain.
Tw: I'm going to talk about real trauma now. Including death (albeit vaguely)
Like- ok. What if it has been 10 years? Let's look at this based on reality. Not some 'Emmet has to hold on!' 'Emmet would go crazy looking everywhere!!' bullshit. Like. Let me put this plainly for those who have been lucky enough not to lose someone you love.
I have lost loved ones. And not just because of death. I don't talk about this. But I relate to the Submas twins because I have personally been separated- abruptly- from my siblings with very little contact. I literally didn't see or talk to one of them for 2 straight years (she still lives in another state miles away to this day.) On top of this, I just watched my mom's best friend lose her husband 6 months ago. I've watched this woman's journey through that grief and trauma. Hell, I lost my grandfather 5 years ago. I'm lucky to still have my grandma in my life at 29.
So...Yes. The pain of losing the person you care about is horrific. The pain of having the world come between you and someone you thought you'd never lose? My sister isn't even dead. But the 8 years of separation have been a permanent and unchanging part of our lives. It hurt. We mourned her like she died. There are 5 of us and I only introduce 4. The 5th one isn't here. She will never be here. I am not exaggerating when I say I know for a fact she will never come back home.
And listen- I'm saying this as someone who's had Eight years to grieve. The truth is.. after that second year... You move on. Whether you want to or not.
Your brain adjusts to the fact that something that big in your life is no longer there. You have a paradigm shift, and the repetivity of the days in which you must exist without them become your new normal. Year 3 and memories are rarer. They don't hurt like they used to. You don't wince anymore. 5 years and the memories are something you hold fondly, but no longer occur without prompt. 10 years? You've reached a new normal. No matter how painful it was. It's old news now. The hurt just. Isn't there.
Like. I can talk about my sister being separated comfortably because I have had 8 years to reach this point. I literally forget she exists. And I'm only ashamed to say this because there are people out there who just. Don't know that this is normal. Who would read that sentence and call me a monster. My grandpa only died 5 years ago and. I just don't even feel anything painful when I say it. It's a fact I've moved past. A benchmark in my life.
So what I want to say is- Imagine it's been 10 years now. An Emmet that's moved through this. Gone to therapy even. Because fuck. I did. Losing a close sibling is traumatic. But he's an adult. He has a job and a life. Maybe this curt, polite, maybe even a little peppy veteran trainer even trained the next successors for the battle subway and has retired. He's talked about fondly and is hugely respected.
(Talk about Ingo adopting Akari what about Emmet being the cool older sensei dude in every coming of age 90's training montage. Hello kinda strict but soft-hearted weird new dad)
An Emmet that's accepted that there's only one now. And he has to be okay with that. He is okay with that. He has learned to be Emmet without Ingo and still be a whole person.
I know it hurts to think about. That for many people, moving on is it's own form of pain. From Ingo? terrifying. But... Can you Imagine that Emmet.... Seeing Ingo again? As two older men who have had 10 years to learn to be themselves confidently without the other for wildly different reasons, finally getting to fill a hole they both accepted was behind a closed door. Locked for good?
Ok like. So for me? That's a concept worth rotating in my head. That has so much potential. For fresh grief, but even better.. imagine the utter disbelief, the joy. There's so much to unpack after 10 years, and they still have the next 40 years of their lives together. Together. Having someone bury the word alone after 10 years of carrying it on your shoulders. The sweet relief of being two halves of a whole after thinking there really was only one. Emmet being emotionally mature about Ingo's memory and having a new goal after all these years of retirement...
I could go on.
Think about it.
Disclaimer: I know about the XX explanation and I don't even personally headcanon Ingo has been gone this long. I just think... It's worth approaching. It's worth letting your brain chew on. Don't shy away from it. Grief can be ok actually. Moving on from grief is not bad. It is a part of life.

Do you live in Ireland? If yes, would you recommend living there (I'm thinking about leaving my country)? What's it like socially, financially, healthcare/insurance wise, politically and just in general?
I do indeed live in Ireland! Not sure how much help I can be in your decision-making because I live in quite a rural area but I've gone into some details under the cut though it is a general runthrough of a few things. I will say that I'm happy here and there's no Ireland-specific factor that would push me to emigrate even though quite a lot of my generation has gone abroad.
In terms of social life -- obviously there are nightclubs and such. A lot of pubs but not as many as there used to be. There are also several gay bars. A lot of opportunities to meet people with different kinds of groups -- Irish-language learning, hobby groups, public libraries. A library card here is great because it's issued for your own county but it allows you to borrow and return books anywhere in the country and if you borrow a book from one public library, you can return it through literally any other one.
Financially, the cost of living is ridiculous. Rent is through the roof, especially in Dublin, and its led to people either commuting to the city for work or else giving up Dublin-based jobs altogether to relocate to other areas. It is a more expensive country than the UK.
Politically it's a reasonably progressive country. We have a system of proportional representation as opposed to first-past-the-post so although a lot of the small socialist parties will likely never get into government, they will get representatives into Dáil and be able to have some say. I suppose current events -- while the media and the government parties can make us seem a pro-Israel country, there is a large groundswell of public support for Palestine. This has kind of always been the case. Ngl, Ireland is much more racially diverse now than when I was growing up. However, there is a lot of xenophobia and racism especially towards poc and people perceived as being refugees. Obviously it varies from place to place and some of it is systemic but this is one of those issues that's really coming to light lately, especially with the accelerated growth of the far right since Covid started.
Ofc we're still in the EU which is great in terms of shared currency and freedom of travel. And we are a neutral country, technically, even though we allow the US military to use the airport in Shannon. There has been talk of taking neutrality out of our constitution but there is very little public support for doing so.
Same-sex marriage was ofc legalised in 2015 and abortion (up to 12 weeks) in 2018 -- just things to be aware of! There's a lot of work to do in both of these areas, but notably both of these gains were achieved by public vote and there is broad public support for them. That said, there's a rise in the amount of transphobia. A lot of it is rhetoric being imported from the UK and anecdotally I know it can be difficult to get access to gender affirming healthcare. I identify as queer (bisexual and some flavour of genderfluid) but I'm not out to my family and I'm not out at work, mostly because I work with young people in an institution with a Catholic ethos and queerness in those settings can still be messy.
We do have a reasonably strong social welfare system -- certainly better than the US. In terms of healthcare, it's a two-tier system, both State-supported and private. Although it can be difficult to gain access to emergency healthcare because of overcrowding and understaffing in hospitals leading to immense waitlists (and similar with GPs and pretty much any healthcare provider), once you do get into the system it goes reasonably well. Obviously there are the horror stories, especially with overcrowded A&Es and the CervicalCheck scandal a few years ago, but certainly the experiences of people I know have been largely positive. Not free, but nothing like the exorbitant bills in other countries. Insurance covers private healthcare and allows someone to avoid the waiting lists as well as ofc covering the cost of procedures.
Public transport is really not great. For example, I could drive to Cork in about 3 hours, but if I was to take public transport it would take 5-5 1/2 hours because I'd have to get to Dublin first. This does mean that if you're going to live outside of one of the cities it becomes essential to be able to drive.
We also -- and this is something people tend to forget about -- have a lot of protections for workers in different industries that aren't present in the US. On top of that, we have extremely rigorous food safety standards, from farm level all the way through the system. We also have a lot of regulation in terms of vehicle safety standards, construction standards, etc.
I'm going to finish here because this is a lot of detail but if you want to send me a DM fire away!

So Roses. First of all I love me some royalty au’s. Especially, with succession struggles. So when you do get around to writing it, it will eat that shit up. That’s also what instantly hooked me on Stars royalty + space.
Anyway, you are once again creating an speaking story simply by flipping the overdone dynamics around. I can’t speak for Techno or Tommy, but so far none of SBI are royalty. It’s very fun to see Phil as the royal advisor (who definitely has his own agenda with all the secret messages). I do think he has a lot more power than you would think. He got his way very easily with Sam. Like he basically got permission to make the decision.
I’m gonna be honest, I was expecting Phil to try and push Wilbur as a potential heir, but I think he’s more trying to set up a puppet king situation. Like he wants Quackity at the palace because if he does become heir he’s more likely to take Wilbur as his advisor if he already knows him. Also I feel like the tnt duo is going to be off the charts in this story. It feels like it’s going to be childhood friends/rivals maybe both.
And then there’s Sam. Sam who doesn’t want to get married because he has Ponk, even if he could get married and keep him. I do think that’s very sweet, but that action has consequences. We’ll enjoy the fallout.
-🌲
YEAHHH ngl spruce I was excited to post this partially bc i knew you were gonna be so game for it lmao
oh yeah phil's definitely got way more power than you'd think he would. the inspo for sandduo in this au came from house of the dragon actually, and while this won't make sense if you haven't seen it, at one point I was like "man what if Otto Hightower wasn't a total dick to Alicent and she was actually into his scheming and the two worked together when she was younger they'd be a very powerful father daughter duo" and then the idea of 'advisor to the king phil who has so many schemes of his own going on + wilbur his son working with him and learning from him' popped into my head. (that's where the inspo ends tho bc like. there aren't gonna be any marriage manipulation plots in this fic lol)
sam is not really a... forceful king to be honest. he relies a lot on phil for his advice, and the Consil's role also includes taking over for the king if he's sick or unavailable at a certain time. so the Consil is essentially the second most powerful person in the kingdom. also related to what you said at the end, he doesn't want to get married because he has ponk yes, but it's going to cause a lot of fallout. he doesn't really care though. when it comes to running the kingdom, he's more than happy to let phil do the hard stuff for him. but he has one line and he's gonna draw it there, succession crisis be damned
the thing is, wilbur as a potential heir would never work. because this is based (albeit loosely) off medieval royalty politics, which were all about blood. wilbur and phil don't have any blood ties to the royal family. wilbur could never be an heir because he's not blood-related to sam, unlike niki who is sam's cousin, and quackity who is his nephew. so yeah, that's off the table so what's phil gonna go for instead? second best option :)
ohhhh the tntduo is gonna be so fun in this fic. the main wilbur relationships I think I'm gonna focus on are (in no particular order): rainduo, crimeboys, tntduo, and sandduo (with a healthy dose of sweaterduo too)
you guys have no idea how much I've been brainrotting this I spent a ridiculous amount of time the other day figuring out what historical fashion trends are gonna be present in this hand wavy alternate universe medieval but not medieval era. I'm in DEEP

Y, L, E, A, F GO. DO IT.
THAT'S ALMOST HALF MY NAME! (moss)yleaf... Y - What are your secondhand fandoms? Uhhh. Do Darksouls and Bloodborne count? Or league of legends? no? okay uhhh. ummm.. hatoful boyfriend? does that even have a fandom?! wait I think final fantasy 7 counts. i've played bits n pieces but im not huuuuuuuge into it (bcos im not done playing) so im more into it for friends sakes. L - Say something genuinely nice about a character who isn’t one of your faves. I hate kasumi yoshizawa with my whole chest but i love her character design so much, (NOT THIEF FORM.) and i think a lot of the symbolism around her false awakening and other aspects of life/gameplay are very intriguing and delicious! mmm foreshadowing, yummy! conceptually its very cool that her pt fit mimics joker because she's always basing her self image on someone else, like a mirror. but. well. [folds hands politely] conceptually. E - Have you added anything cracky/hilarious to your fandom? If so, what? Morally I can't answer that for old fandoms. It's all been deleted now anyway. I can finally rest in peace. For p5 i've made one crack fic but it's not like... Big or anything. i've made a few shitposts that have popped off ig? cunty little akira fig, oug oug? is that anything? A - Ships that you currently like a lot. Ahhhh the classic. I will always love pegoryu and shuharu. and, well, pegoryuharu. them in a post-game domestic setting is really big in the neb economy rn. listen i know im just smushing my faves together but SH. i can see ryuharu working in a romantic setting but ngl? fine ill admit it. i like it when it's just them both dating akira. they can share and hang out but not kiss about it. s'called being really goog friends lea me alone. F - What’s the longest you’ve ever been in a fandom?

Hi! You've been watching a lot of really interesting shows and i was wondering if you could recommend them? Like, they all look good and i know you live blogged a bunch but some of them i think i did not fully understand the premise of or I have a somewhat skewed impression based on the gifs and your own comments/tags. And I don't have time to watch all of them (your speed is kinda terrifying ngl) but I might have time to watch 1 or 2 soon and I don't know how to choose, so I was hoping to maybe get your opinion on which ones are absolute must-watches and which ones can maybe wait a while.
So keeping in mind that this question is very subjective depending on your tastes and what you’re in the mood for, here are my thoughts. I’m not including The Untamed in this list because I’m sort of assuming that if you follow me, you’ve watched it, LOL.
The really long tl;dr – if you want a drama/intrigue, watch The Devil Judge. If you want a mystery, watch Beyond Evil. If you want a rom-com, watch Bad Buddy. If you want a heist, watch Player. If you want a period drama, watch Nirvana in Fire. If you want to know why I’m writing a bunch of fanfiction, watch Not Me.
Now, the long post. Shows marked with an asterisk are canonically gay if that’s what you’re looking for. Most of the K-dramas and C-dramas are available on viki.com. Most of the Thai dramas are on YouTube. If you want a place to watch something specific, let me know. :)
The best shows I have watched and liveblogged in the past year or so are:
The Devil Judge – K-drama, 16 episodes. Dystopian nightmare future/legal drama/political intrigue. Super tightly plotted. Amazing characters. If you like mastermind characters, you will love Kang Yo-Han. If you like really good people who are doing their best to stay good despite terrible circumstances, you will love Kim Ga-On. If you are me, you will love them both. Very satisfying finish. Cannot recommend enough.
Nirvana in Fire – C-drama, 54 episodes. Imperial China, political intrigue, family drama. Also very tightly plotted, also amazing characters, and way, way more of them. There are so many characters in NiF that I just absolutely adored. The ending was, I found, very satisfying, although it is a bit of a sad ending.
Beyond Evil – K-drama, 16 episodes, mystery/drama. So many twists and turns. So many ‘what the fuck is happenings’. The characters have so many sides to them. This show is absolutely buck-fucking-wild and I pretty much never knew what was going to happen next, the who-dun-it twist made me literally scream at my computer.
Player – K-drama, 14 episodes, action/comedy. I’m cheating here because I didn’t liveblog it, but I have to recommend it because it’s amazing. It’s a lot like Leverage, if you know that show. Smart criminal good guys. Corrupt politician bad guys. So much satisfying comeuppance. So many great characters, and really quite funny a lot of the time.
Other shows I have watched and highly recommend but wouldn’t put on the same level:
*Not Me – Thai drama, 14 episodes. Action, mystery, family drama, political activism. Boy’s twin is in coma. Boy goes undercover as own twin, falls in love with other boy. Not anywhere near as tight a plot, the timeline is a bit of a mess, there are a few lingering questions but they’re not a huge deal. But plot aside, the characters are great, I absolutely love everyone in this bar. The kind of show I will probably write a lot of fanfiction for.
*Kinnporsche – Thai drama, 16 episodes. Gay Mafia drama/action/mystery. I loved it more than was possibly reasonable. Great characters. However by nature of the trope, there are a lot of trust issues, and the relationships aren’t always healthy although they’re doing better by the end. I enjoyed it, but wouldn’t necessarily give it a blanket recommendation to everyone I know like I would with the above shows.
*Bad Buddy – Thai drama, 12 episodes (…I think? I’d have to go back and check, it might be 14). College-aged gay rom-com. A lot of fun! A romp, in fact. Good characters. Very healthy relationship, great communication, surprisingly deep message, wonderful ending. Would recommend to anyone who likes rom-coms.
*2Gether – Thai drama, 12-ish episodes, I forget, sorry. Another college-aged gay rom-com. Very cute. Not as good as Bad Buddy in my opinion. More miscommunication and people making stupid decisions for no real reason. However, still cute, and worth watching if you don’t mind that sort of thing.
*A Tale of 1000 Stars – Thai drama, 10 episodes. Rom-com/drama. More drama than the other two rom-com recommendations, a little dash of mystery.
The King’s Avatar – C-drama, 40 episodes. Your basic sports show, but about video games. Lots of lovable characters, a great deal of fun. Can be a little repetitive but I didn’t care because I loved the characters so much.
Sweet Home – K-drama, 10 … maybe 12 episodes? A monster show. Really it’s a zombie apocalypse show but with monsters that are weirder than zombies. Interesting characters, good premise. On the gory side. Lots of character death. I enjoyed it but wouldn’t watch it a second time. However, if that sort of show is your bag, it’s well put together.
The Imperial Coroner – C-drama, 36ish episodes. Mystery/political intrigue/romance, in Imperial China. The plot is okay, the villains are kind of annoying, but the very likable and fun main cast make up for it in my opinion.
*Word of Honor – C-drama, 36 episodes. Wuxia with a splash of xianxia/romance/drama. Everyone’s a villain. The characters are fun. The plot was absolute nonsense most of the time. Gets better in the second half. Bullshit ending if you don’t watch the extra, which makes it a slightly less bullshit ending. My advice is to stop at episode 34. (This is as canonically gay as a Chinese show can get so I gave it the asterisk.)

SINF ask meme, numbers 4, 5, 7, 8 🔆
Sorry it took me a few days to answer this my life has been ✨hell✨ lately but fuck it we ball
4: MACHIAVELLI def not bc I thought he was hot but yeah I was so obsessed with him that my friends decorated my middle school locker for my birthday with him with an inside joke that was basically Machiavelli + basilisk = Baskiavelli pls don’t ask me where it came from bc I don’t remember but here is a pic of it pinned to my cork board above my bed. I was so obsessed with this man that this is what my two best friends at the time decided to surprise me with on my birthday. He was def a hyper fixation for a while ngl.
But yeah I’ve consumed lots of media he’s in, including Assassins Creed, stalked his Wikipedia, and have read a few academic writings about him too. Political/philosophical thought isn’t my jam as far as history goes but I’ve skimmed over some of his original written works and outlines of his main themes as well
Tumblr media
5: I quite like Prometheus since he is the ultimate uncle and a good teacher to Josh. Im not particularly attached to any of the Elders tho bc they don’t change as much as the main cast (except maybe Aten). I just don’t have very many strong feelings towards any Elders tbh sorry
7: one of my draft posts is that Jin from BTS is immortal bc it’s a running fan base joke that he’s a vampire or smth that accidentally became a celebrity.
Serious answer: Catherine II of Russia is probs an immortal, especially with her interest in neoclassicism, her successful military campaigns, and her general interest towards political and philosophical academia as well as the arts and sciences. Isabella of Spain for similar reasons (I don’t know as much about her off the top of my head unfortunately I wrote my thesis on Catherine II that’s why I have so many facts about her). And bc we don’t get to see many political/intellect directed female immortals besides Perenelle a little bit.
8: I don’t know too too much about modern pop culture but. Angelina Jolie? Idek she’s very introspective and knowledgeable also gives me Perenelle vibes with her face structure and general elegance. Also v invoked with activism through the UN and UNICEF. Very random but she is the most well known celeb I could think of that fit the description.

Media consumption is generally just escapism for me. 🤷‍♀️
It's also worth pointing out that 'media consumption as activism' usually translates as 'criticizing other people's preferences in media consumption and calling it activism'.
But that's pretty much all I've got on the subject.
People can consume what they want as far as I'm concerned.
I'm more interested in what prompted your post on this ngl
That's the main way I see it too. People thinking that political action and education can be replaced by watching the right shows and attacking others for enjoying the wrong ones.
I already forgot the specific post I saw just now but my point is not really about any individual post so much as a greater trend that has been growing lately where people seem to assign far too much moral value to what types of art they enjoy.
There are definitely stories that have made me feel things in the past, but I don't think even my favorites are as meaningful as my actual experiences or as insightful as reading non-fiction.
My relationship with fiction as escapism is interesting because I tend to be drawn towards the more tragic and stressful types. The worlds that it would be awful to actually live in and the quests that require great effort and sacrifice to endure.
I feel like there's entire genres that are kind of dragged down by prioritizing being power fantasies too much at the cost of having interesting conflicts or forcing characters to overcome real weaknesses. I tend to find it more interesting when there is struggle.
This applies to games as well. The first two Gothic games, for example, have some of my favorite difficulty curves in any game because of how weak and vulnerable you are at the start. You have no fighting ability, no extraordinary magic, not even any kind of decent social position.
You start the first game at the absolute bottom of the ladder in a cutthroat prison colony where many people far stronger than you are perfectly willing to beat you, force work on you, extort you, intimidate you, and generally just take advantage of you in whichever way they can.
You are made to really feel this through the gameplay too. Most enemies will easily kill you in those early stages, and the average NPC can put you down in just a couple of hits at most. You are no one special. You are weaker than the nameless randos walking around the camps.
There are even escort quests where you are the one being escorted as a potential recruit for some of the games' factions, with a much stronger NPC guiding you to their base and easily killing monsters that would destroy you in one hit.
But if you stick with it, you can become stronger. You can learn how to adapt and survive in this merciless environment and eventually overcome challenges that you intimately know would have crushed you many hours ago.
I find this far more satisfying than the more stereotypical forms of wish fulfillment, while it is still arguably a form of it. I like to be presented with bleak and genuinely difficult situations and then being given the agency to overcome them. I love that a whole lot.

Tbh I agree that Kinsey 1 bisexuals shouldn’t really be grouped with 50/50 or Kinsey 5 bisexuals. Like I fully understand why they are, it doesn’t make any sense at all to divide bisexuals up based on preference for either sex because you could basically have infinite labels (and it can prob change throughout your life, idk). But the fact is (like some of the notes on that post say), a Kinsey 1 bi is effectively and practically heterosexual, and a Kinsey 5 bi is effectively homosexual (not ACTUALLY homosexual, I need to clarify. But practically.)
Like, I am a febfem. I have been with one man (was drunk and thought I should try it) and I found it repulsive. I do have some degree of attraction for males (maybe like movie or book characters who I would never meet in real life?) but never would want to touch one or actually be in a relationship with one. Any attraction is basically theoretical. I have a friend who calls herself “a little bit bi” because, according to her “women are objectively prettier than men and boobs are hot I guess, but I’m disgusted by vaginas and would never want to touch one other than my own”. Now, according to the definitions we operate under, she is just as bi as I am. Despite having no desire to be with a woman whatsoever, just maybe gets turned on by boobs or something.
I fully agree that there’s no practical way of dividing us up but at the same time I find it frustrating that myself and my friend are grouped into the exact same sexuality and there’s no real way of specifying here. My friend will never be with a woman and back a few decades ago when it was less acceptable, would never have even acknowledged any attraction to women and would have happily lived a straight life. I would’ve struggled terribly as I only have a (realistic) desire to be with women.
I’m not arguing for the definitions to change or anything, I’m just having a rant really. Like we have the term “febfem” but that’s very niche and tbh most people have never heard of it, and that still implies a “choice” to only be with women, whether out of preference or for political reasons. I prefer women because I was born this way, not because I chose it. Just like my friend who prefers men.
imo someone primarily dating the opposite sex vs primarily dating the same sex vs dating both equally is what should be used to differentiate not where you fall on the kinsey scale. bisexuality is a broad spectrum with a wide range of experiences and sure some bisexuals will have lived experiences almost identical to heterosexuals. but i think it’s also important to be open about not actually being heterosexual & vice versa for bi ppl with strong preference for the same sex regardless and putting an end to the myth that gay & het people can also be attracted to both sexes to some degree.
also ngl your friend doesn’t even sound bi to me lol “boobs are hot i guess and women are prettier than men” doesn’t sound convincing. lots of het women sexualise female bodies bc female bodies are sexualised in general but express no actual interest in women. they just acknowledge what even gay men will acknowledge, which is that women are pretty (even gay men will say women are better looking than men).

Nobody is cancelling him, they are just disappointed he’s calling an abuser a ‘hero’ and even wanting to be in his presence. If you think a white straight male can be cancelled you’re very wrong. Do you even know what the term ‘cancelled’ means? Sam has said he wasn’t thinking and knows he was wrong for it. Stop defending him for something he knows he shouldn’t have done
This is going to be a messy answer because it's an emotional and volatile subject matter for me and my thoughts are muddled but... For a start...
You're doing it, you're literally doing it again right now with your "white straight male" thing.
Also cancelled is a meaningless word, there isn't a single person who has ever been effectively cancelled.
Also as a victim of domestic violence/rape and coercive control I think I have a pretty solid say on this one. I wasn't even disappointed in him for taking the photo, Johnny Depps a really famous actor who starred in some big films from my childhood, I'd probably have a drink with him because I'm not naïve and I don't believe for a second you can live a morally pure life in which you can be perfect all the time and avoid contact with other people or things you perceive to be morally bad.
What you're saying about how Sam shouldn't even have wanted to be around him, that's you effectively saying that Depp should now be isolated from society forever and idk, that strikes me as weird and not justice at all.
I actually don't care that Sam's apologised either, I don't think he needed to apologise for a photograph. It's dumb, it's not progressive, it hasn't helped DV victims. This whole case has been shit for DV victims, not because of the verdict (though the verdict has been grim) but because its made a complete mockery of DV cases.
It turned a nuanced and horrible case into reality TV for two months. As a victim of DV I can safely say I am now no more likely or unlikely to ask for help, or to talk about my experiences.
My ex tried to take me to court for defamation when I told people what had happened to me and seeing this court case pan out the way it has has been grim BUT,
This court case is so far removed from reality and so deeply embedded in celeb culture that it may as well be an episode of big brother or some shit. Its not going to effect DV victims at all, women were being sued for this shit before, victims will continue to be sued after.
And I'm ngl, the verdict was probably correct, at the close of the trial they had both done so much damage to one anothers careers for having gone through the whole thing so publicly.
Abusive relationships are messy, and nuanced and you can never point blank say that one person was perfect and one person was evil, especially when it sounds the way this one was. It sounds messy and blurred and I just think anyone getting mad at Sam Fender of all people for taking a photo with Johnny Depp pre verdict, not even drinking with him as pals just like one drink and then leaving to go seperate places... Is missing the point massively and as I said,
Proving Sam's point about how there's 0 room for mistakes and you're held to a ridiculously high moral standard that is IMPOSSIBLE to meet by social media and society in general.
His post was obvs not in support of Depp and he hasn't said anything in support of Depp pre now either so for people to jump on it in such a reactionary, angry brain, way is stupid.
I don't know how to break this to you either but, the DV stats across the world are SO high, the gender based violence stats are SO high, that we are all mutual friends with at least 1 if not more people who have treated another person poorly.
You litterally can't avoid them, and again, getting mad at Sam Fender, a man who speaks about women's rights a lot, who does actually try and is actually quite politically concious, over one photo, is missing the point.
This was a mess but idc

I'm seeing a lot of sabikui bisco on my dash rn bc you're reblogging posts about it, and it looks pretty interesting!! Do you mind sharing what it's about (bc ngl I kinda wanna watch it rn based off the gifs I've seen)
I just realized there was a question,, BUT YEAH! I don’t mind at all!!
I love the show and light novel so much and honestly if you do end up watching (or already have based on how long this took to answer,,), please tell me what you think!!
So, it takes place in a post apocalyptic world where Japan has been a victim to a rusty wind that will like,, kill you,, it turns your body in like,, a rusty metal, it isn’t a fun time.
The public thinks the cause of the spread of the “Rust” is mushrooms so the government is pretty harsh on making sure that they don’t spread.
However, there’s a group of people who excel in handling mushrooms, called Mushroom Keepers! The government obviously doesn’t like them and obviously has like bounties to get them caught and stopped. The thing is, mushrooms aren’t the cause of Rust but instead the cure.
So! Now we follow a young Mushroom Keeper named Bisco Akaboshi (he travels with this old guy named Jabi who’s his father/mentor and Bisco’s brother, a crab named Actagawa) who is technically a fugitive (he’s got a bounty and posters and the works). We also meet Milo Nekoyanagi, a brilliant young doctor, who would go to the ends of the earth for his older sister (named Pawoo).
Pawoo and Jabi are really badly affected by the Rust and our two main characters team up to get the miraculous mushroom that’s the supposed total cure for Rust called the Rust Eater!
Journey, hijinks, political corruption, and ✨love✨ (which really is apparently a big theme in the series) make up the rest of the story. There are two other characters (they’re kind of connected) I didn’t mention that have roles in the story but I figured I’d leave them for you to watch, but I promise they are important to the story (I didn’t know how to write them without spoiling too much).
