La città di Padova: la mia città?
Ciao a tutti!
Okay, I’ll go back to writing in English for a little bit, but you know I like to put in phrases in Italian ogni tanto 😉! I’ll give you all some facts about Padua, the city I’ve been living in for five months now, and I’ll tell you what I think about the city after that time. Then I’ll leave some questions for you all to answer, if you would like to (or if your teacher would like you to, haha).
1) Padova è una città abbastanza grande: over 214,000 people live in the city and its sobborghi, which is almost double the number of people who live in the city of Cambridge, where I normally study at university!
It is said to be the oldest city in Northern Italy, and according to legend it was founded by a prince 🤴.
At the moment it’s 7°C here, and that’s quite warm compared to the last few weeks!
For example, there is a famous palazzo called Palazzo della ragione that was built 800 years ago this year, in 1219! It has amazing paintings all over the walls inside, and there is also a sculpture by the famous sculptor Donatello, who spent some time in Padua in the 1400s.

Here are some photos from the Palazzo - the first one is the beautiful terrace outside (you can see the whole of the square below from there, it’s a very cool view), and the second one is the inside of the Palazzo, with all the paintings.
So, after spending five months in Padua, I expect you guys are all curious to know what my opinion of it is: io onestamente amo la città! La gente è molto gentile e simpatica, e mi piace l’atmosfera qua. I would definitely say that Padua has become la mia città, and I have felt so at home here. I’ll be so sad to leave, but I am very excited about the second part of my Year Abroad, which will be in Barcelona, Spain! (For any of you who also study Spanish, you’ll be able to read blogs about that in class with your Spanish teacher, but the posts will be almost completely in English and will have translations, so you can always check out this blog anyway whenever you want! I’ll remind you all of this stuff in the final blog post next week, though 😄.
Here are some questions for you all to answer about your city or town, if you would like to (or if your teacher would like you to, haha) - I’m very curious to know what it’s like, curiosissima in fact!
