the worst characters that ever happened 2 degrassi were katie n marisol. also i thot it was so funny when anya randomly decided 2 join the army. and there was a Brief scene where her mom was like, "noo army Bad" but then. she changed for no reason n was Proud of her. such A Show it's so stupid i love it more than anything
I just got to the ep katie was introduced in but I honestly barely remember wtf she and marisol even did on the show I think she was addicted to pain killers or some shit like that gen is so forgettable and boring to me I literally forgot anya joined the army LMAO her doctor storyline was also horrific the writers really were just doing the randomest shit those 2 seasons 😭😭

Why: Gonna be honest, I'm a bit biased as "Spike goes to Angel for help after the chip" is one of my favorite Spangel setups. This fic really showcases the boys' history with each other, and their bond. Angel's POV is also really well done.

I think Penelope as a character would be so much more tolerable if her fans accepted that she *IS* a gray character. NC admitted as much in an interview, and I feel like she wouldn’t say that unless the writers and showrunners told her that, yes, Penelope is meant to be flawed. Yet her fans consistently treat her as this baby who must be protected. She writes sensitive shit she overhears from people and sells it for monetary gain and the rest of the ton’s shits and giggles, and doesn’t care if the subjects are her own family members or best friend. I feel like I’m living in an upside down world when people know she’s done all of these things but still say she’s the victim.
And the thing is, it’s not just a handful of her fans that don’t let you say anything negative about her. It’s the vast majority of them. I never see them acknowledge her wrongdoings. There’s always someone else to blame.
Nicola herself says Penelope is like her mother, Portia. So I'm not really sure why Pen stans are acting like she's some innocent flower when their own fave says she's just as conniving, etc as Portia is.
They just want to view her as some victim when she has a good life.
Her family isn't 'mean or cruel' to her. Portia despite being a terrible person for scamming the ton, she did do all of that for the sake of her daughters, admits that she loves them, etc.
Portia isn't mean/cruel to just Penelope.... She sits there and tells Phillipa that cotton will do for her 'common' self for her wedding dress after she asks for nicer fabric for it & constantly insinuates that Prudence is stupid. No one has ever made fun of Pen's weight in her family, etc.
Penelope is equally mean to her sisters as they are to her. That's just how siblings are, they mock each other, etc.
The Ton isn't mean/cruel to just Penelope. It's that whole family. No one fucking likes them as a whole. Cressida is mean to everyone so Penelope isn't fucking 'special' or anything like that. She had a whole ass rivalry with Daphne in S1 so it's not like she's JUST mean to Penelope. She's not nice to any women in the Ton.
Penelope's life isn't hard AT ALL. Her family was broke, but her mom also scammed the whole ton and got money back for them all the while, Penelope was hoarding her LW money under the floorboards of her bedroom like a dragon. Even if her family was broke, Penelope isn't.
Her being 'a spinster' in S3 isn't that hard for her let's be real here. Prudence, who yeah eventually gets married this season, but she's still unmarried, so is Cressida. She's not some poor soul who's the only unmarried girl in their 3rd season in society. If she wanted to be less lonely, she should have spent more time attempting to be likable to other people and the men of the Ton. Instead of just sitting in the corner listening to gossip she can use in her LW sheets and being sad that her crush didn't like her back b/c that's not Colin's problem.

what's with the latest thing about simone on twitter?? what did shondaland do now
basically it's the latest in a long list of shondaland snubbing simone.
so, two days back netflix made this post linking to an article by tudum promoting season 3.
in talking about the s3 cast the article made mention of every single minor character that has made an appearance in the show.
guess who never got an honorary mention in spite of being the leading lady of the most successful bridgerton season?
and of course people tried to come up with excuses about how maybe kate won't be around this season, even though she has talked in interviews about kate's role as a supporting character in s3 (not to mention that even if she were to make just a fleeting cameo, imagine bending over backwards to justify characters like cressida or brimsley or the mondrichs being mentioned but not the main draw of the previous season).
the only mention of kate was as anthony's "love interest". i guess penelope gets to be the star of the entire show (that's supposed to be about the bridgerton family but has turned into the lady whistledown show) but kate can't even be seen on equal terms with anthony when it comes to her own season.
coincidentally the writer of the article is the same woman who messed up kate's name in an article about the families of the bridgerton universe about two months ago.
and this disrespect towards simone and her character isn't a recent development.
simone was the only cast member to be excluded from the promotional video for season 3 (where they just so happened to use the kathony finger trick that was an easter egg for their love story and number of children they would have)

also, when shondaland published an article about season 3 less than two months after kate and anthony's season premiered, they made sure to mention NC by name as the star of the show. meanwhile the leading lady of the season they'd just released, which had become a huge success surpassing that of s1, was an unnamed "South Asian woman".
that's on top of the atrocious treatment of simone during season 2, where she was reduced to a side character in an ensemble show, where the production was more concerned with selling NC as the next female lead (from the solo poster and EW photoshoot to her face as the fucking thumbnail of the teaser for kate and anthony's season) and to a lesser degree the upcoming QC spin-off.

One more ask! You’ve mentioned several times that you have complicated feelings towards Zaya, which makes sense since all the characters and ships on this show have more than their share of flaws and messy moments :) So I wanted to ask what you love about them AND what you wish you could change about them! Also, talk about why you prefer Camaya!!
Putting under read more just in case.
What I love about Zaya: Their chemistry. Like it's explosive yet also has a lot of comfort. I can buy how much they love each other and their development was beautiful to see.
What I wish I could change about Zaya: Well them kissing while ZIg was still with Tori was a little 'ugh' to me. Even moreso that there were those moments of Zig pestering Maya to go out with him. I HATE those types of relationships where one person goes after the other without taking 'no' for an answer. It's not cute, it's not sweet, it's romantic. It's DISGUSTING and ignoring the other person's agency. And while I don't blame him for Cam's death, even if Cam didn't end up committing suicide, he shouldn't be telling the girl he claims to love's boyfriend to get out of her life But he did feel bad about that and realizing his mistake. And also, Zig calling Maya his "sloppy seconds" is also never addressed? And I mean ZIg's attitude about Maya following her dream in NC is just idk...but I'm getting ahead of myself.
But what I would personally change about them to have them as endgame is that, they can still kiss and Zig would still have feelings for Maya except he'd back off a little more. Zig would be honest with Tori and break up with her. Maya would be upset at first but understand.
Idk if Cam would have still killed himself if Zig didn't talk to him. But if he does :(, I'd have Zaya have that same storyline. And in s13, Zig would be less of a dick about Matlingsworth but he'd still be into Maya. Wouldn't call Maya his "sloppy seconds" or any of that. Wouldn't be an asshole about Maya not being into like that and they'd stay friends and that same storyline.
In season 14, I'd have it be the same, except I'd give Matilngsworth and Zoemund closure. Zoe and Zig can go on a date, but realize they're better as friends (which a perfect lead in for Zoe realizing she's gay). Matlingsworth can be friends or have the same thing as Zoemund.
And everything else with Zaya in that season is still the same :)
For next class s1, even though I HATE the cheating and Zig being unsupportive of Maya's dream, it isn't ooc imo. But I would rather if Zig wasn't jealous of Maya and Jonah but still...
Early Season 2 can be the same except after #TurnItUp, Zig (and Grace) wouldn't try to insist for Maya to forgive him and she'd get some space. So Zig would be less of a dick and Grace would not have feelings for him. Like I don't even like Gracevas, but Grace having feelings for Zig of all people and defending him to Maya...Like she could tell Zoe that she thinks Zig is hot. They didn't HAVE to have Grae have feelings for the guy. While I don't think it came out of nowhere because Grace is a very private person and probably would have hid it through insults or smth or something could've developed, it's the way Grace kept defending him to Maya when ZIg completely fucked up.
Season 3 and Season 4 Zaya can still be the same and they'd get back together during their trip and talk things out :)
As for why I prefer Camaya, I just think they're very sweet and pure. They truly seemed to adore each other and I love how Cam liked Maya in the beginning and Maya started to feel the same way. I know it's unrealistic, but a Camaya endgame would have been adorable. They were definitely each other's first loves.

Hello! I saw your tags on my post about Ossan’s Love Returns and just wanted to pop in and give you a little background on jbl that you might find helpful. It’s a misconception that all jbls are broadly comedic or done in an anime style. That’s certainly one popular lane of Japanese media, but there are many others!
I actually wrote a post with a suggested list of jbls to try to get a sense of the different styles and tones they do well, and I bet you’ll find something on here that’s more to your personal taste (https://www.tumblr.com/lurkingshan/736506298254884864/japanese-bl-starter-pack). And in my experience, a lot of that discomfort or inability to connect with a different country’s style resolves itself naturally through familiarity; the more of it you watch the more you’ll understand the cultural communication norms and rhythms, and it will open you up to enjoying and appreciating so much more. No country’s media is just one thing, and you really do have to be open to trying out a lot of stuff before you can know what you might enjoy. Maybe give it a shot!
Thanks for taking the time to send an ask, I have seen the post and I pretty much watched all the ones on there, I have also watched anime before (i have a few sitting on my hardrive just waiting for me to have the necessary spoons and spark to watch them), and it's true not all of them do have that style of humor i was generalizing a bit (my bad).
I have found a way to connect to some of the characters (and relationships) the way I usually do, like with Tanaka-kun to Amagi-kun or If it's with you and with His the movie (which I really enjoyed). And the Pornographer series which I re-watch often. I did also really enjoyed My Personal Weather Man and Utsusii Kare. I am also low-key a little bothered by how little some of these boys/men/adults are even allowed to hold hands (I do get why this happens, it's not their fault or anything, not blaming them at all, I am not neceserally talking about NC scenes, more just some of them just rarely touch or hug at all and it feels a bit weird, I come from a very touchy family and a low-key touchy culture so it is something I have to always keep in mind while watching)
In general when I say I have a hard time connecting to characters in jbl is more that while I understand what is going on and the emotions being presented to me I feel more external to them in a way that doesn't always elsewhere, it is 100% a me thing and the way my brain watches media weird. I have had this problem with other media not just JBL, some western media has left me like that too (sense8 is one, I struggled with that one, still haven't techincally finished it). And I have been watching western media in english for so long I even feel that way with Italian Media more often then not.
The humor thing is also a me thing, it took me ages to finish avatar the last airbender because i could not get pass the s1 humor given to aang (i didn't watch this growing up, I was an adult when I first came across it). I always I have a hard time with humor, of any kind of any culture, the best kind of humor for me it's the kind that I don't notice, meaning the unitrusive kind. The only times I laugh more then usual with media is when I am watching specific comedy specials and that is it. So honestly this is not on anybody but when someone says this thing is really funny i get this automatic hurge to back away slowly. I have a very weird relationship with humor.

Hi a friend just got me into Spangel and I was wondering if you had some good A03 fic recs. I’m not really a fan of the Scooby Gang butting in and would prefer something with substance too and not just sexy times lol.

I actually did a rec list not long ago for Spangel (which you can see here) but not everything on there sounds like what you're looking for, so I'll make a new one. That being said, there will probably be a couple repeats on this list. (I'm just assuming that you're a different anon than the last one, lol. *shrugs*) I can't promise no sexy times, but I'll try to give you recs that lean towards the plotty side (gonna be honest with you here, it's hard to find plotty Spangel sometimes, especially in shorter fics-- I often don't have the mental energy or the time to read the really long fics)

Five Times Angelus Got Down on His Knees by girlpire. Rated T. Not strictly Spangel, it's really Fanged Four polycule, but it's very good. "Five short scenes from relationships Angel had while soulless, during which he spends time on his knees. But not like that."
And while this one isn't on AO3, it's very much worth the read: To Take You In by anonymous. Rated NC-17. "My take on a familiar theme: Spike goes to Angel instead of Buffy after "The Initiative.""

"the way the bridgertons are a minority in a show where they're the titular characters" If they keep losing one sibling per season no idea of what shondaland is going to do. At least Kanthony had their own promo, Phoebe didn't even got that for season 2
if that's how they treat their returning leads why would anyone not named NC stick around?
phoebe watched every supporting character get promotional posters, interviews etc in her season and didn't even get the same courtesy when she appeared as a supporting character in s2. glorified extras philippa and prudence got more promo in s1 than the former leading lady did in s2!
same pattern is now repeated with kate and anthony... a couple already robbed of the bare. Fucking. Minimum during their season.
i wonder does the production think bridgerton is so successful bc of their forgettable oc storylines? the pillars of bridgerton popularity are romance and family (shows about families have always been hugely popular in every genre, it's a tried recipe). how do they think it looks that bridgertons keep disappearing while minor characters no one cares about are in the first row at every commercial opportunity?
no one got into bridgerton for prudence or philippa or uncle jack. they tuned in for the bridgerton family and the love stories.
