the natural hair community 🤝🏾 consumerism
the reason why you think your natural hair is expensive is because your wasting your coin on products that do nothing for you and only buying them bc they use clicky words and use ingredients that are currently going viral on social media
buying a bunch of products to test if it works for you<<<<<going to a curl specialist or doing an online consultation with one and them telling you exactly what you need (ie. if you need a clarifying treatment, a moisturizing treatment, protein treatment, etc.) and directing you towards the properly formulated products that can deliver the results you want

Why do white people, non-blacks, and people with non-coily hair want to be in the Natural Hair Movement so bad?!
Like- look at this!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
These were the comments to a YouTube short: responding to a Tiktok comment that said straight hair is natural(which is what happens when you let the curly Shirley’s into the movement because y’all wanted to be INcLUSiVE)
Btw, black people did start the first natural hair movement in the 60s. It was known as the black is beautiful movement, and have had natural hair shows 70 years ago. Don’t suddenly care about our shit when your people wouldn’t even want to go near it and call our hair nappy no less than 3 decades ago.

Hi xX.. idk if u remember this ask/anon but i’m the one who sent u a personal rant about my hair. i still have moments where i get frustrated when my hair doesn’t look as good as it did before, but i’m finally coming to terms w it. i go to an HBCU now & i started realizing that nothing is wrong with my hair, it’s textured, how “slow” it grows, its length, etc. i feel a lot more comfortable at an HBCU compared to an all-white high school. also, u were definitely right about my experience w racial trauma. i was denying it at first, but i have sooooo many experiences where i felt so uncomfortable/unwelcome by the white kids i went to school w. like they would purposely go out of their way to make me feel bad about something i can’t control - my hair. at an HBCU i neverrr felt this way. thank u for the advice about patience & ur words of encouragement 🤎
Glad you're in a better environment that fortifies your confidence now, bby. A change of scenery (& your social atmosphere by extension) can make all the difference you benefit from. I'm so glad it worked out for you. I'm also happy that your relationship with & the way you perceive your hair has changed. There's nothing you can do but gain now — so long as you stick to healthy practice.
If it's alright that I give you some advice: **Stay away from natural hair content and information about hair that is not at least similar to your actual texture when you're researching maintenance. Esp on youtube or tiktok.**
I would honestly give that advice principally to any Black Girl/Woman on a natural hair journey — whether she's fresh or seasoned about the journey. It is so so imperative to really understanding your natural texture, porosity, curl pattern & shrinkage. Esp if you're coming from a previous lifestyle of predominantly using heat, perms or protective styles. That literally saved my life during the product-push phase of the natural hair movment; not just buying products to try on my hair just bc an influencer suggested it from a sponsor, or using this or that on my hair bc this natural does it for xyz.
It's awesome you find yourself more at home and secure in your traits at an HBCU :) Keep going. I went natural in 2019 & am literally waist-length now just being consistent with washing & moisturizing my hair routinely — & sticking to regimens that work for me in general. Now that you have a sense of what you were missing being in intolerant white spaces, I hope you're able to make friends at your HBCU, & fall more in love with yourself on your journey. Keep going. This is only the beginning. Imagine what this change in your mindset will look like in just a mere two years; two and a half; three; four. It's gonna blow, your, mind. Promise.

Educating Does Not Equal Judging
Since I’ve started vlogging on Youtube, I’ve noticed in some of the comments on my videos that a lot of people feel like I’m judging other people’s hair or haircare choices. That couldn’t be further from the truth. My goal has always been to educate black women about their natural hair and the healthiest ways to care for their hair based on my own research and experience. You don’t have to like…

My Natural Hair Opinion
- Natural hair is not hard to manage
- Texturism is just as big of a problem and should be taken seriously
- Natural hair is not childish
- Everyone should be washing their hair once a week or once every two weeks
- Vet your hair braider, or hair hairstylist ( a lot of them could be colourist, texturist, and Featurist Don’t bring that negativity into your li.
- Your hair porosity matters
- A lot of black women don’t know their true curl type so it’s best to just say that your hair is type 4 hair
- Not every protective style is protecting your hair
- There’s a lack of representation for fine hair, short natural hair/locs and type 4 hair
- Bring back hair, grease and let go of gummy gels . The only gel you need is a botentacle gel.
- Yes, you can incorporate heavy butters and creams in your hair regimen. If your hair likes it( do your research first)
- Stop using negative terminologies when describing your hair
- Cut off texturist friends
- Their difference between assimilation hairstyle and a protective natural hair style
- You’re protective style should be in for no longer than 3-4 weeks maximum
-. Everybody Hair Care Journey Is Different
- It is extremely important to watch women who look like you have your hair type
-. Relaxers, chemical straighteners, addiction to having your hair straightened 24/7 is harm towards black women only to their physical health, their self-esteem/ mental health

Black ppl really got the worst dysphoria when it comes to our hair. it’s actually terrifying
calling yourself bald headed when you in fact have hair on your head is insane. the damage we have gone through at the hands of our Black peers (friends/family/classmates) & non-Black counterparts has done irrevocable damage to our mental.

Yeah, let’s talk about this cus I’m still having to deal with this when it comes to my hair. My hair is 4A-4B, and there is nothing more frustrating than trying to find a hairstyle tutorial video and there’s nobody with your curl pattern. It’s just loose textured girls and women( cus let’s be honest, it’s mainly the non black and biracials girlies doing this) popping up in the search results.
Then they have the nerve to get upset when we say that having wavy hair doesn’t mean you can be in OUR natural hair community and start calling us the Curl Police because we dared to exclude the non black girls from OUR OWN MOVEMENT!
