The idea that Russia "feels threatened because of NATO expansion" really is the most braindead take on geopolitics.
Like, why on earth would a nuclear power need a land buffer? What century do you think it is?
That's not to mention the complete denial of agency regarding aspiring NATO member states.

“I sometimes hear people say that Russia was forced to attack Ukraine because Ukrainians wanted to join NATO. Those people also often say that NATO promised it would not expand to the East, but later broke this promise. And this, allegedly, is the reason why Russia keeps attacking its neighbors.
If you have ever heard people say something like that, please know that this is not true. And it will take me less than five minutes to prove with facts that both statements are false.
First, let's have a look at the timeline of events.
Russia first invaded Ukraine in February 2014 by occupying the Crimea peninsula. At that moment, Ukraine was a neutral country by law and expressed no intention of joining NATO whatsoever. For instance, during the Revolution of Dignity, the protesters insisted on Ukraine joining the EU, not NATO. It was only in autumn 2014, after many months of war, that Ukraine abandoned neutrality.
So what came first? Russia attacking Ukraine, or Ukraine wanting to join NATO?
The answer is clear.
Had Russia not threatened Ukraine's existence, there would be no reason for our country to seek collective security. So please do not repeat the lie that, I quote, “Russia attacked because Ukraine wanted to join NATO,” end of quote. This does not correspond with the facts.
Now let's have a look at the story of NATO allegedly promising not to expand to the East.
If you ask people who say this, when exactly, such a promise was made and who made it, most of them will not be able to provide a clear answer. Spoiler, because no such promise has ever been made and the whole story is a Russian fairy tale.
Those more sophisticated will tell you that the promise was made to the President of the USSR, Mikhail Gorbachev. They may even refer to the 1990 U.S.-Soviet negotiations on the reunification of Germany. Again, let’s consider the timeline.
In summer 1990, when these talks were held, the Soviet analog of NATO, the Warsaw Pact, still existed. Its dissolution, let alone the Soviet Union's dissolution, was not on the cart. No one even talked about it or imagined it. It was only next year, in 1991 that the Warsaw Pact, and later the USSR, quite unexpectedly ceased to exist.
Now explain to me just how the very issue could be even discussed in the summer of 1990. It is not surprising that Mikhail Gorbachev later himself refuted this falsehood. When asked by a journalist whether any such promise had been made, he said this was a myth.
Now let's look at it from another perspective. How could NATO even promise anything like that?
Initially, it is not NATO that decides which country joins it. Countries themselves need to want it. And actually, the membership criteria are very difficult. It requires a lot of political will and reform. All the NATO members that joined it after 1991, really wanted to be part of it.
Their people wanted this.
And here comes the most uncomfortable question for Russia: Why were all of the nations that had been part of the Soviet Union or the Socialist bloc so eager and desperate to join NATO?
Well, maybe because in three decades, Russia has invaded or incited war in at least three of its neighbors, Moldova, Georgia and Ukraine. At the same time, Russia has not dared to invade any of its NATO neighbors.
Do you see the pattern?
The only reason for countries in the vicinity of Russia to seek NATO membership has always been and remains the need to protect their people from Russia.
Therefore, Moscow has only itself to blame for the fact that all of the central European and Baltic nations ran away from it and hid under the NATO umbrella as quickly as they could.
Do not let Russian officials or their supporters in the West fool you. Russia attacked Ukraine not because NATO expanded to the East, or because Ukraine wanted to join NATO. Russia attacked because it denies Ukraine's right to exist and wants to conquer our land and kill our people. It is through our shared strength that we can and must stop Russia and put an end to its aggressive plans for the rest of Europe.
For this to happen, keep supporting Ukraine and don't buy Russian lies.”

Sweden officially joined NATO on Thursday. It had been neutral since 1814.
One of Putin's pretexts for his illegal invasion of Ukraine was to prevent NATO expansion. What the invasion really did was to cause NATO to become reinvigorated and expanded.
With Finland and Sweden joining NATO, the land border between Russia and NATO has doubled in length. And the Baltic is now a Sea of NATO with Russia holding only a couple of relatively short strips of coastline near Kaliningrad and Saint Petersburg. This represents a spectacular strategic failure for Putin.
Sweden on Thursday formally joined NATO as the 32nd member of the transatlantic military alliance, ending decades of post-World War II neutrality as concerns about Russian aggression in Europe have spiked following Russia's 2022 invasion of Ukraine. Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson and Secretary of State Antony Blinken presided at a ceremony in which Sweden's "instrument of accession" to the alliance was officially deposited at the State Department. "This is a historic moment for Sweden. It's historic for alliance. It's history for the transatlantic relationship," Blinken said. "Our NATO alliance is now stronger, larger than it's ever been." Kristersson wrote in a social media post that "we are therefore a safer country." Later Thursday. Kristersson will visit the White House and then be a guest of honor at President Joe Biden's State of the Union address to Congress.
Ukraine will eventually join NATO but it probably won't happen while active hostilities continue. Expect to hear Sweden mentioned at the State of the Union address.
Biden, in his speech to Congress, is expected to cite Sweden's accession to NATO as evidence that Russian President Vladimir Putin's intent to divide and weaken the alliance has failed as a direct result of the Ukraine invasion. And, the Democratic president is expected to use Sweden's decision to join to step up calls for reluctant Republicans to approved stalled military assistance to Ukraine as the war enters its third year. Biden and his NATO counterparts have vowed that Ukraine will join one day, too.

Russian imperialism of the past 300 years has caused its neighbors to seek more protection against it. Few people in Eastern Europe have fond memories of being Russian or Soviet colonies. With Putin acting like a хуйло for the past 20 years, the only safe option is NATO membership.

Russia would not attack NATO, but F-16s will be shot down in Ukraine — Putin
Russian President Vladimir Putin declared late Wednesday night that his country had no plans for any NATO country or intentions to attack Poland, the Baltic states or the Czech Republic, according to Russian media.
Putin also warned that if the West supplied Ukraine with F-16 fighter jets, they would be shot down by Russian forces. Speaking to Russian air force pilots, the president claimed that the US-led military alliance had expanded eastwards to Russia since the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, reiterating that Moscow had no plans to attack any NATO state.
We have no aggressive intentions towards these states. The idea that we will attack some other country — Poland, the Baltic States, and the Czechs are also being scared — is complete nonsense.
Responding to the question about the F-16 jets that the West had promised to send to Ukraine, Putin noted that such aircraft would not change the overall situation.
“If they supply F-16s, and they are talking about this and are apparently training pilots, this will not change the situation on the battlefield. And we will destroy the aircraft just as we destroy today tanks, armoured vehicles and other equipment, including multiple rocket launchers.”

As Free as the United States is, our Foreign Interactions Suck (Specifically, US involvement in Ukraine Russia War)
If Ukraine joins NATO before the war with Russia is resolved, WW3 between the US, NATO countries, and Russia appears to be inevitable.
In the scenario in which this happens, I am leaving this country (the United States) for a country that is neutral and/or against the shit the United States pulls on the rest of the world.
I will not serve as collateral damage for whatever insanity our corrupt and demented leaders try and put us through
I want to have nothing to do with this shit.
I'm an American and I literally hate the fact that we are being emotionally and financially coerced by Ukraine to give them more and more of our hard-earned money to continue a war that does not benefit the American people, and a fight that neither Ukraine nor the United States HAS NO EXIT PLAN for.
I am starting to side with Russia in a certain way.
The United States is trying to impose their will on Russia by 1. Trying to turn a country that borders Russia into a NATO country, and 2. Portraying Russia as an unjustified aggressor.
Honestly, I hate the tragedy of war, but it just seems to be an inevitable part of life, in that, for example, if you see that your country is getting pushed around by the United States, a global superpower, you are of course going to want to push back.
The strength a country shows, and the respect they receive for that acknowledgement of their strength is the key to peace.
The United States does not respect the strength and political autonomy of Russia and many other countries.
As much as I appreciate the freedoms and opportunities I have in the United States, I am not proud of the foreign interactions the US has had with other countries.
The United States is always trying to convince foreign countries that our way of life is going to "elevate" their society, notably, in 2014 when Obama tried to convince Uganda that they shouldn't pass an anti-homosexuality bill (1).
I'm sorry, but does our society look like its thriving with gay and bisexual men representing over half of all AIDS and HIV victims(2) ?
We also have about about forty to fifty percent divorce rate amongst the general population(3), and sixty seven percent of black children being born into single parent homes(4), so tell me United States, who claims to be so anti-racist and accepting, why are you trying to ruin black-African societies?
I am in no way saying that African, or any foreign countries are perfect, or lacking problems of their own, but their problems are exactly that, their own!
Why does the western world feel the need to try and "fix" other's problems!
Especially with the inflation that the people of the United States are experiencing, apparently now is the time to devote our time, money and resources into other countries problems with governments that are, at the very least not free of political corruption.

On a sort of related note, here is a savage video of the Uganda president unashamedly declaring his opinion about homosexuals. This man appears to be more honest than most US politicians.

Context for the purples:
Ukraine/Moldova/Georgia: Dealing with separatists backed by Russia, which automatically makes them ineligible to join.
Azerbaijan: Technically ^^^ but they're also a rather strict dictatorship that we don't really wanna get that close to, not that that's stopped the Turks from doing just that.
Cyprus: Also technically ^^^, but backed by the Turks instead of the Russians, so it's never happening.
Bosnia & Herzegovina: The Bosnian Serbs are possibly more pro-Russian than the Serbian Serbs, and that's saying something. And because Bosnia's government is based almost entirely around ethnic lines, nothing gets done unless all three constituent ethnicities(Bosniaks, Serbs and Croats) agree.
Kosovo: They're functionally independent, America recognizes their independence, and they've got NATO personnel stationed there, but they're not fully recognized. Specifically, NATO members Spain, Greece, Slovakia and Romania all do not recognize Kosovar independence, treating the territory as a de jure part of Serbia.
Also, Armenia seems to be looking to jump ship from the CSTO now that Russia isn't doing jack shit to help them with the Karabakh region. That's not gonna translate into NATO membership, but it would lessen Russian influence.

Nato, a rotting relic of the Cold War, today exist only to inflict suffering and steal resources while it inevitably rots away, and now it's almost its time, it's scared and lashes in anger, but the world endures and prepares the final blow, for the rotting monster is almost dead

⚠️ MAO NING: NATO SHOULD REFLECT ON KIND OF ROLE IT PLAYS IN EUROPEAN AND GLOBAL STABILITY, RATHER THAN FEEDING WORLDWIDE TENSION AND PROMOTING THE “CHINESE THREAT” NARRATIVE ⚠️
🇨🇳 Today, February 9, a journalist from RIA Novosti asked Mao Ning - Spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China - for a comment on Jens Stoltenberg's (NATO) statements that "what is happening in Europe today concerns conflict could affect China's actions in Asia", and that China "is increasing its intelligence-gathering activity in Europe" 🤪
⭐️ Mao Ning's answer:
💬 “NATO has continued to go far beyond its traditional Defense Area and has asked its members to increase military spending and expand military activities, and is now leveling accusations and criticisms against China. This is a double standard from manual" 📖
💬 “China is committed to the Way of Pacific Development and has a better track record than any other major country in supporting Peace and Security. We have never invaded any country, we have never started any proxy war. never engaged in global military operations or threatened other countries with force" 🕊
💬 "What NATO should do is abandon the Cold War mentality and ideological bias, and reflect on what kind of role it has played in European and global stability, rather than fueling tension around the world and promoting the narrative of " Chinese threat" 😵‍💫
🔍 For those wishing to learn more about this topic, they can refer to these posts from the Shaoshan Collective:
🔺Zhao Lijian: "NATO has reduced itself to being an instrument of hegemony. [...] While claiming to be a defensive organization, NATO has constantly created confrontations and problems. While asking third countries to abide by the basic rules that regulate international relations, NATO has waged wars against sovereign countries and fired its projectiles indiscriminately leading to civilian deaths and displacement" - full post 📄
🔺Zuo Dapei: "NATO is an alliance of imperialist military aggression formed by developed capitalist countries in Europe and North America. The military actions conducted by NATO demonstrate that it is not a military alliance fit to protect the security of member states, but an aggressive war machine of the European and American imperialist countries" | series of posts: I, II, III, IV, V, VI 📄
🔺Li Zhanshu: “They [NATO countries] are putting together small block structures and are also pursuing an Indo-Pacific strategy precisely to curb our development across two oceans: Pacific and Indian. [...] We will fight together with Russia against their hegemony and power politics" - full post 📄
🔺China Daily: "NATO is a relict of the Cold War and the Russo-Ukrainian conflict is NATO's fault" ⚔️

Finland has technically been “neutral” since the end of World War II. But that doesn’t mean that the country has been naïve about their eastern neighbor for all those decades.
Finland has an extensive system of underground bomb shelters. There’s space for just about everybody in the country. They’ve even created shelters to safeguard citizens from neutron bombs which give off extra radiation but damage less property.
It helps that much of this infrastructure serves a double purpose. Some areas are used for playgrounds and other recreation facilities.
When you’re well prepared, you can be less paranoid. We can learn a thing or two from Finland as a NATO partner.
