Here are some beadwork artists in MY neighborhood that you should check out!

C'eldzïn Beadwork! I've bought her work before (the bisexual earrings) and she was kind enough to change said earrings to clip-ons for me! Her work is gorgeous and I highly recommend it!

Small Town Earrings!! They have very cute beadwork pieces, including some Pokemon and LOZ themed ones!!! I highly recommend their work as well!

Strong Blood Creations!! They're a trio of Indigenous women that create and distribute beadwork; I bought a hair clip from them recently that was absolutely gorgeous!!

Carmen Redunante! She's a Nisga'a/Chilean artist who sells absolutely gorgeous beadwork as well as other jewelry, prints, and and tapestry!!

I'm a little behind in posting this, but in June I finished up a second mural at John MacLure Community School.

I decided to illustrate he salmon life cycle in almost a story book or colouring page theme. The mural is located in a large "nook" in the hallway at the main entrance featuring two spawning sockeye. Trailing behind behind the mural is additional flowing imagery of salmon eggs, fry, and alevin. It was a challenge taking a full photo of the space due to limitations of the hallway space and lighting. You can also see the Thunderbird mural I created last year out the window.

When we engage in the art of hair braiding, we infuse it with the purity of our intentions, a gesture that takes on profound significance when it's the tresses of a beloved individual we weave. The act of braiding becomes a powerful symbol, as we intertwine three sections of hair, each one representing the mind, the body, and the spirit.

In my youth, my mother would lovingly braid my hair, creating cherished moments that have left an indelible mark on my heart. As the passage of time bestows maturity, I find myself continuing this timeless tradition by tenderly braiding her hair. In this cycle, we bridge the generations, preserving this beautiful connection that transcends both time and space. The hands that perform this act of love and tradition are mine, as I braid my mother's hair, perpetuating the legacy of our shared bond.

A Lakota (Sioux) fully beaded woman's dress

Sinew sewn, the yoke and skirt each fully beaded on both sides in greasy yellow, white-heart red, green, light and dark blue beads, with fringe along the skirt and about the ends of the sleeves. laid flat: length 49in, width 64in

This rare fully beaded dress is very likely the same one once worn by Jenny Yellow Elk Woman, a Sicangu Lakota (Brulé Sioux), and her daughter Julie Nelson, the so-called "Sioux Princess" whose father was John Young Nelson, a scout, interpreter, guide; the family performing in Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show and pictured in cabinet card photographs of the period. In The Plains Indians: Artists of Earth and Sky, Gaylord Torrence discusses another fully-beaded Dakota, Yanktonai or Lakota dress of a similar style: "This rare, fully-beaded dress… is an exceptional example of the elaborate beadwork created during the period, when whole garments and various objects were sometimes solidly beaded"

the illustration with the raven i first did a couple years ago; i completely re-drew it, and expanded on the concept by creating the other two works. i was guided by a hope to combine the ideas of Indigenous kinship with other-than-humans, and a critique of blood quantum.

FORMLINE SCORPION 🦂🌃

This piece was done as a contest entry for a local contest that unfortunately did not win. Because of that, I feel comfortable sharing it here. This was a pretty experimental piece and I'm pretty satisfied with how it turned out.

This piece in question was based off the Northern Scorpion (Paruroctonus boreus), which is the only species of scorpion that lives in Canada and also known to glow a bright blue under UV light. (pictured below)

I'm kinda sad I didn't win, but I'm still proud of how the piece turned out. (Also this piece got finished around the end of October last year, so it's been on the backburner in terms of posting for a while lmao)
