I want to start occasionally wearing scarves over my hair on occasion, just as a "historical method of hygiene" and "hide the grease" thing, and I wanted to do it in ways that are Ethnically Sourced To My Region And Family because, you know, why not?
Which is great, except the only two ways that are correct for my mom's side of the family, according to her, are 'makes me look like a babushka' (tied under chin) and 'makes me look like I'm cottagecore' (tied at nape).
(I could theoretically try the Dalmatia styles, since my dad's family is Dalmatian Serbs, but those all seem to require much larger bandanas/scarves than I currently own.)
(Also these rainbows are the only Cotton bandanas/or square scarves I own, the rest, more normal/refined prints are satin weaves that claim to be silk.)

Procedure of putting on the headdress from Bratina.
In the begining of the video, she coats the hair with a solution of sugar in water.
The braids are only worn up during work so they’re not in the way. The ribbons with shiny beads tend to be less ornamental for working as well.
The beadless undertape near the end is only folded on the top of the head into a “rose” if it’s long enough. This one isn’t, so it’s only simply draped.

For the anon looking to buy traditional folk costumes, a quick Google search led me to the website malasrpskaprodavnica(.)com They offer traditional folk clothing from Serbia. I definitely agree with zvetenze that searching in the target country language is your best bet. For Serbo-Croatian, try phrases like 'narodna nosnja prodaja'. Good luck!
Thanks!
