If you’re a member of the studyblr community, you’ll know that challenges are incredibly popular here. But lots of us embark on productivity challenges, only to give up after a few days. So when I managed to complete @studyblr 30 days of learning challenge in July, I was so proud of myself that I decided to make a post about to talk about how I managed to do it!
Tumblr media
There’s a more detailed explanation here, but essentially, the 30 days of learning challenge is exactly what it sounds like – you pick a skill, an activity, anything, and take 30 days to practice it!
Tumblr media
Like I said, I’ve never managed to complete a study challenge because I struggled with motivation, especially with challenges that span over a few months. I’m going into my final year of university this September, and I’ve got a lot on my plate: I’ll be looking after some first year students and I’m also the representative for all the students in my department. So I wanted to get a head start on my third year with this challenge! I chose to complete my readings for my autumn semester modules. It was a huge challenge, but I knew it would help me in the long run.
Tumblr media
On to the nitty gritty. It had been a while since I’d done something productive, so it was pretty obvious that I’d give up if I worked myself hard every single day for thirty days – especially if I also had to post about it.
Taking each day as it comes
So instead, I took each day as it came. Some days I was able to work for a solid few hours and get lots done, and others I wasn’t in the right headspace to do that, and only managed to do something small. And I took weekends off for myself, leaving my blog running on a queue.
“But that means you didn’t learn for thirty days!”, I hear you cry. And you’re right! I didn’t specifically focus on my subject of learning for every day of this challenge. But that doesn’t mean I didn’t learn. It taught me a lot about respecting my own boundaries, taking time to myself, and not working myself until I had nothing left to give. And despite taking some days off, I got all of my readings done with some time to spare!
Actually doing the work
It’s not easy by any means, but it is possible. It starts with knowing where and when you work best – here’s a good masterpost about that. I already knew that I work best in the morning, anywhere comfortable and quiet, so I took advantage of that. It might be a bit harder if you’re not able to create the perfect environment but getting as close as possible will definitely help.
From there, I tried to set goals as realistically as possible. Would I be able to read a 20-page paper and take good, helpful notes about it in half an hour? Hell no. I guesstimated how long each reading would take, giving myself anywhere from an hour to up to four hours in some cases, and drew up a loose plan in my head for how long each week’s readings would take.
Tumblr media
The most important thing, I found, was flexibility. Theoretically, I would be able to get through two weeks’ worth of reading each day, with an hour for lunch, if I worked from 9am-5pm. But that didn’t happen every day. Some days, I got through two weeks; some days I got through three or even four weeks; some days, I got through one week, if I did any work at all.
On top of that, my university’s resource lists are sometimes incomplete or require a trip to the library: for my investigative journalism module, only about half of the required readings were available online. Instead of getting annoyed and giving up on it, I had to force myself to plough through – not an easy feat by any means, but now it’s over I know it was worth it.
Flexibility in what I focused on and how is absolutely essential to getting any work done in the circumstances we’re faced with. It all makes doing anything considerably more taxing on your energy and wellbeing. Some days I couldn’t do much other than be anxious and sit on my phone or play Animal Crossing all day. But as soon as I took the pressure off myself, and actively told myself I didn’t need to do something every day, it made productivity easier, and more enjoyable.
I also made sure to give myself the right amount of downtime. Not enough and I’d burn out, but too much and I’d get lazy and not bother to keep going. This will differ for everyone, but finding your balance is incredibly important – not only for challenges like this, but for your wider life as a student and as a person.
For me, the right balance was finishing at around 4-5pm every day to make dinner and have downtime with my family, and forcing myself to take time away from it all at the weekends. Like I mentioned, I put my blog on a queue every weekend, but I also didn’t let myself check my emails or do any reading when I was taking my breaks.
I found it challenging to force myself into taking breaks when I felt like I could continue, but from past experience I knew that I would end up burning myself out. Enforcing boundaries between your academic and personal life is essential.
Tumblr media
It’s very important to note that mental health should be your priority regardless, but especially when completing any studyblr challenge. It’s hard enough coping with mental health problems as a student, but it’s even harder during a pandemic when you’re told by your teachers you need to keep being productive. For that reason, it’s even more important to put boundaries in place and stick to them. Remember: if you can’t do something one day, that’s okay! You have other days to look forward to where doing what you need might be more possible. I have a whole masterpost about looking after your mental health as a student, which you can check out here.
Wrapup
I really hope this post was helpful! I’m more than happy to answer any other questions here, and I’ll also include some other links below to help.
If you completed the 30 days of learning challenge or any other studyblr challenge recently: well done! They’re not easy and accomplishing that much is something you should be really proud of yourself for. Stay safe and look after yourselves!

basics of a weekly spread
hello!! and welcome to a quick guide on how to set up a weekly spread in your bujo, à la aurie style (that’s me!) weekly spreads are hella handy for planning your week out, keeping track of your day-to-day to-dos, AND having space to fill up with other information you'd like to keep!
although there are many variations of what a weekly spread can entail, i’ve found this format to be useful to me as a student with lots of projects, homework and after-school events. it’s helped me to keep up with my workload, as well as pick out days where i can fit in a study session or a day out with my friends :)
so without further ado, *drumroll please* let me breakdown each part of this spread to you!
week title
a very simple header that tells me the month and dates of this week! some people prefer having a mini calendar next to this so they can tell which week of the month it is, but i use my school terms instead. in this case, i’ve written T2W2 as a short form for term 2 week 2!
overview of your week
this is used in conjunction with your daily spaces! i stick to a simple legend for events, special days and tasks, but you can create your own version.
in the table i’ll write down events like my training schedules, consultations with teachers, project submissions etc. note that you shouldn't be writing specific tasks like "finish chemistry report" in this table, but rather under a daily space.
daily spaces
so this is where your individual tasks go! to make it easy on your eyes, i'd recommend having the headers - which are really just the name and/or date of the day - a different colour from what the colour you'll be writing your tasks in.
with daily spaces, you can allocate tasks to whichever day you'd like to do it on, and easily migrate it over to another day if needed.
tracker
tbh this is something i don’t always add but i do like the idea of trackers. I tend to use mine to note down how much i sleep each day, but of course, you can track other things such as the number of hours you study or spend on ig.
trackers act as a good motivator because it can make you more aware of how much time you are doing a particular activity, and subsequently, you can adjust your time spent for the better!
next week
like the tracker, i don’t add this to every weekly spread but it keeps me in check when i know i have a lot of events or submissions due next week.
also, if you do your spreads way in advance then you most likely won’t need this because you can simply write events on your next spread! unfortunately, i have a proclivity to procrastinate setting up my spreads so i need a space to write next week’s significant days down.
design
the look of your weekly spread will vary depending on your preferences. personally, i love having some colour while keeping the spread to a more minimalistic style.
some ways you can vary your design: ⬩  colour scheme ⬩  font (of header & daily spaces) ⬩  design of weekly overview table ⬩  rearrange format of spread!! switch things up here and there ⬩  doodles ⬩  add stickers or pictures in
and that’s it! hopefully for those who are struggling to find a suitable system they like using this may help you. do drop me an ask if there’s any other aspect of this that you’d like me to explain, or you have other questions about my bujo and weekly spreads! thank you ˙˚ʚ(´◡`)ɞ˚˙

Moods of productivity or lack of it:
1# inspired by @coffeeandpies :The thick layer of smog is hiding the towering buildings and you are starting off your morning at the downtown café with a cup of hot soybean milk. It is the early morning but the subway is almost empty. The almost identical appearance of the architecture and the inadequate city planning is making everyone pull their hair out, even the locals are sharing the same experience. An intense school day is rewarded with some boba tea and the study cafes are inviting people to stay long into the nights. As you are heading home late in the night, the amazing smell of street food is filling the air and once in a while you can hear someone having enjoying themselves with a karaoke session.
2# northern europe: You are late as per usual. With a takeaway coffee in your hand, you are trying to rush among all the others who are late. The cold weather hits your right in the face as you step outside of the busstation and start making your way towards class. Trams and cars are honking like crazy as some are crossing the roads when the lights are red. The humongous group of asian tourists are standing in the way of all the locals, trying to capture the grey atmosphere with their selfie sticks. After class you realise you haven't done anything productive but still decide to skip studying to go for a lunch with your friends. As hours go by you decide it is time to go home and in the bus you fall asleep with the textbook in your hands.
3# high school: At 5.30 am you groan out loud as the alarm goes off. You end up snoozing until 6 am and realise you are going to be late for the bus. By 7 am you are sitting in class with the look of a zombie, but you are not only one. At lunch you are heading to Starbucks and order yourself an iced almond latte. The afternoon is spent at the school library with your friends and even though you were supposed to finish the three assignments, you are gossiping and looking through memes.
4# the mess: Once the alarm goes off you lay in bed contemplating your life: to go or not to go? As the warmth of the bed is inviting you decide to opt for the second option and text your friend to add your name on the attendance list. At 1 pm you decide it is time to get your shit together and you gather your stuff to the kitchen table. Two essays, a lab report, three exams and plenty of small assignments are waiting for you. Exhausted you pour yourself a huge mug of black coffee and get to work. By 12 am you realise you haven't eaten all day but you decide it is just time to go to bed.
5# holly gabrielle: It is 6 am and you are making yourself a hot lemon water. A few yoga stretches later you sit by your desk to write the to do list for the day. When it is done you get right in to work and start your research for a paper. At 11 am you have a long lecture which you, surprisingly enough, enjoy a lot. When you get back to your dorm room your start rewriting and adding additional information to your lecture notes and at 7 pm you find yourself at your gym. By 10 pm you have finished everything on your list and happy, but tired you head to bed hoping for tomorrow to be just as productive.

Hello, studyblr community! It’s been a long while since I posted any originals, so here are my first September spreads! 🌈 Those are my first attempts at lettering using brush pens, so be nice!
I won’t make any promises, but I’ll try to post more often, which now is possible since my mental health has been greater than ever (thanks to my new psychiatrist!), and I’m keeping myself on track with studying 🌸
Hope you all have a great weekend!

Guys college is messy, and there are a million little todos and there's no time for making things pretty. And time management is a thing?? And it’s hard?? But everything is interesting?? Honestly, I’m falling apart but also living. And I haven’t cried yet today so that’s how college is going for me in a nutshell.
I’ve started going to clubs and the harry potter is club is awesome!! It's everything dorky and lovely and fun.
