An attempt was made!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Well, that's a wrap folks, NaNoWriMo is officially over.
I'm not too disappointed in the outcome, but I do hope next year I could probably do something better. I really appreciated the discipline of trying to write everyday (even though most of the time the result was like 1 or 6 words, but hey! that's 1 or 6 words more than the day before!)
I tried not to be too hard on myself, and really patient - at some point I realized I was worried about potentially getting burnt out by the end of the month.
One thing I really liked (though I'm sure I mentioned it before), was the visualization the graphs give of progress!! Even when I didn't write a lot there was still something that lead toward a goal steady progress was being made even though it wasn't a lot!
Tumblr media
I mainly focused on writing for Glow Worms this month, and managed a decent amount - even got a new chapter to edit through so that's fun!
I think next year I won't focus on solely one fic though, I realize that I do need a sort of 'cool down' / fermenting period when it comes to cooking up a new chapter, and if I had tracked the progress of writing for other fics as well, then the numbers would certainly look different lol
all and all! This was fascinating!! I hope others learned and had a fun time this NaNoWriMo too!
Best wishes! ♡ Nico___〆(・∀・)

Progress Report 10/29 - 11/4
Makin moves!
finalized the script for chapter 1 (minus some sprites)
started & finished chpt 4 draft
started chpt 5 draft
finalized some conceptual aspects of a game mechanic we can't give too much details on yet >:3c
Jace is taking advantage of NaNoWriMo this month to tackle the omamori script! (No the game is not going to be 50k goodgrief, there's some other projects on the NaNo lineup once omamori's script is finished)
Now that the script for chpt 1 is finalized, Rob has the info they need to start work on some new sprites!
See ya next week!

Morning progress report: 508 words into Day 1
I really hoped I'd feel more prepared this time around. I still have a lot of unanswered questions about these characters and the things they're going to experience together, but I'm trying to remember to have faith in the process.
Writing advice I am focusing on today:
Writing is a process of asking questions. Every time you ask yourself or your characters a question and find an answer, you move closer to a scene. (paraphrased from this excellent interview)
"[Cease] to make the internal demand that you have to feel a certain way before you can take a particular action. 'Give up on yourself,' wrote the late Japanese psychologist Shoma Morita ... 'Begin taking action now, while being neurotic or imperfect or a procrastinator or unhealthy or lazy or any other label by which you inaccurately describe yourself. Go ahead and ... get started on those things you want to accomplish before you die.'" (HELP! by Oliver Burkeman)
How is NaNo Day 1 treating you? What words of advice or encouragement are motivating you today? God knows we all need them this month!

Day twelve of fic NaNoWriMo, obligatory sugar daddy Tim/sugar baby Kon AU.
Tim waits until the next morning, after their latest Young Justice sleepover has both occurred and concluded, and catches Kon while Cissie is bullying Bart away from the pancake mix and taking over the kitchen for her and Cassie to make everyone breakfast. It’s their turn, which is for the best; last time was Kon and Suzie, and they’d absolutely wrecked the kitchen before finally confessing that Kon had never actually cooked before and Suzie didn’t know if she knew how to.
Breakfast had been Pop-Tarts and it’d taken them two hours to clean up the kitchen. Tim had just decided not to ask questions, at that point.
“I’ve got a summary of the intel you asked for,” Tim says, holding out his single-page “report” for Kon, tucked nice and neat into a manilla folder. Kon looks startled.
“Huh?” he says, blinking down at the folder.
“I looked into Tim Drake,” Tim clarifies. “Long story short, you’re in the clear. His grades are stable, his disciplinary record isn’t concerning, and his psychological profile falls within acceptable parameters. His mother passed away a couple years ago, but his father just got remarried and he and the stepmother aren’t involved in anything shady, there’s no other relatives or criminal associates on record, and the family business’s practices are only a little morally dubious, which in Gotham is practically sainthood, frankly. Maybe don’t accept any unsourced archeological finds from him if it comes up, but otherwise you should be good. Go ahead and make friends.”
“Uh, right,” Kon says, a brief flash of embarrassment crossing his face as his ears redden. “Friends. Yeah. Uh–you seriously checked him out to Bat-standards that quick, though? Geez, man, you didn’t have to do that. I coulda waited a couple weeks.”
“Just rearranged a little casework that wasn’t time-sensitive anyway,” Tim replies, repressing a wince. Maybe he should’ve padded the time a little more on this. He doesn’t want Kon to think he wasn’t taking his request seriously. “Also, he’s a civilian high school student with exactly two family members and a fairly small friend group. There weren’t a lot of rabbit holes to go down.”
“I guess not,” Kon says, looking awkwardly at the folder for a moment before pushing it back towards him. “Uh. I don’t need to, like . . . read that or anything. If you say he’s good, I mean.”
“You don’t?” Tim asks, a little mystified. Kon looks embarrassed again.
“It’s weird enough asking for a background check on a dude who’s apparently just trying to be nice,” he says. “I’m not gonna read it if there’s nothing I actually need to know.”
Tim blinks, still more mystified, though he’s not sure if it’s Kon turning down perfectly-presented intel on a stranger or Kon trusting his opinion enough to turn down that intel that’s doing it.
“Okay,” he says. “If you’re sure.”
“Uh, yeah. You really didn’t have to rush it, though,” Kon says, still looking embarrassed; tucking a loose curl of hair behind his ear in incredibly distracting fashion that Tim has to struggle to not be distracted by with limited success. “Like–it’s cool of you, but I really could’ve waited a couple weeks. Like, he’s probably not gonna go full mask-off supervillain day one at the mall, you know?”
“I had the time,” Tim says, still feeling a little odd. “And it’s better to know before you spend too much time around him anyway, isn’t it?”
Also, better to know so Tim can progress on bribing Kon out of his shitty lab-life and into a cute little cul-de-sac somewhere. Or an apartment building. Or an apartment block.
“I guess, yeah,” Kon says, his face inexplicably reddening. “Um. Yeah. Uh. Thanks, Rob.”
Then he zips off abruptly without another word, and Tim is left mildly bewlidered and looking at the empty space he was just standing in.
“. . . you’re welcome,” he says after a moment, no less bewildered, and puts the report away.
He doesn’t really get Kon as a person, sometimes, but at least this is another step forward on the plan. He still needs to talk it all out with him as Tim Drake and work him up to it, because even Kon’s very weird socialization clearly still thinks it’s kinda strange for somebody to just offer to rent an apartment for him out of the blue, but then again, maybe that’s just because he thought Tim might be a supervillain. Which Tim still isn’t, technically. He’s like, a proto-supervillain at best. And only when it comes to bank fraud and pre-planning, because if he’s learned anything from Bruce at all, it’s that being the most prepared person in a situation absolutely always pays off.
Maybe he can get Kon to quit Cadmus completely, if he plays his cards right here. He’ll start with a place that Kon can commute from, or at least by pretending they’re looking for a place that Kon can commute from. Maybe Cadmus would actually fucking pay him more than a pittance and an expense account, then, and Kon could save up a little. Tim should look into what the other field agents get, actually, though chances are “free room and board” is probably on most of their paychecks too, since Cadmus more than likely made most of them too.
Fucking shitty asshole cloning labs.
Maybe Tim should actually bribe some lobbyists the next time clones’ rights come up in legislation. Or just as soon as he has Kon safe and settled and secure outside of Cadmus, whichever comes first. That would definitely be a good use of his trust fund.
Or just all of Drake Industries’ profits for that quarter, depending on how effectively he can distract his dad for said quarter.
Tim’s a reasonably resourceful person. He could work something out.
Also, clones’ rights implies getting Cadmus potentially shut down or at least more closely monitored, and maybe conning Superman into paying back child support for being irresponsible with his DNA. An incredibly powerful alien specifically primed for the local environment absolutely should’ve known better than to not have something arranged in case of his death besides just letting someone bury him, of all things. Incredibly stupid idea on his part, frankly. Isn’t there an AI running the Fortress of Solitude, to say nothing of all the androids? He absolutely could’ve set up a failsafe to come collect his body and lock down the Fortress once it was inside. Not a perfect solution, obviously, but definitely a better one than “let Metropolis just do whatever they feel like”.
Much better, in Tim’s opinion.
Seriously. Kryptonians are basically invasive predators on Earth. Superman absolutely should’ve known better than to leave his own dead body lying around. Frankly, Tim’s disappointed in Bruce for that one. He really should’ve had a talk with Superman about that particular oversight before Kon even happened. Not that Tim’s complaining about Kon existing, but Kon is basically the best-case scenario they could’ve gotten out of that. What if somebody’d possessed Superman’s empty body? What if they’d stripped it for parts and made a whole army of Supermen? What if any fucking number of things had happened?
There’d better be something in place now, is all Tim’s gonna say.
. . . maybe he’ll set up a high-yield savings account for any potential future Kon 2.0’s, just in case Superman decides to be stupid again. Just make monthly deposits and let it all collect interest. Tim’s not ready to be a clone-dad, but he can get the groundwork going.
Hell, maybe he’ll make a Kon 2.0 one day.
. . . that is an insane person thought, Tim recognizes. And way farther down along the supervillain pipeline than he wants to be right now.
Still, Kon’s a hybrid, so he’s probably infertile, right? Which means if he ever wants to have kids or anything, he’d need–
Oh god, Tim thinks, and immediately hides his bright red face behind his fake summary of his own life story. Okay. New thought processes. New thoughts. New . . . everything, at this point. New all-the-things.
He’s sixteen, he reminds himself accusingly. There is absolutely nothing about the idea of Kon with a little Kryptonian-ish baby that should appeal to him at all at this stage in his life.
Just, well, his inner future supervillain apparently has a thing for punk telekinetic DILFs, he guesses.
Well, given the timeline he’s intending to go supervillain on–
If Tim ever meets a telepath, he thinks he should probably just quit, actually. Like, for good. There is no possible way it wouldn’t end in absolute mortification.
Oh god, Dubbilex is a telepath, isn’t he. Tim is never going to be able to be in the same room with the man again without employing every possible meditation technique he knows, because otherwise his brain is just going to be screaming about what Kon looks like soaked in Kool-Aid with his hair slicked back. Or how he smirks when he’s flirting with a civilian stranger at a café. Or the mental image of him in a crop top and Daisy Dukes version of his superhero costume, ngh–
Tim can definitely just never be in the same room with Dubbilex again. Or Martian Manhunter. Or maybe just anyone.
Dammit.

Boromir lives AU fic Progress report:
Working title is 'The Edge of Night' posts will be tagged '#fic: the edge of night'
I'm writing a whole ass first draft before i start publishing since i'm doing this for Nanowrimo this year so it will be a bit before i actually start posting on Ao3 but never fear, it will come!
Subscribe to me over there if you want to make sure you don't miss it: https://archiveofourown.org/users/QueenSabriel
(there's ONE lotr ficlet over there it's a spicy aragorn/legolas one shot)
ANYWAY updates
As of today I am just past the Battle of the Hornburg/Helm's Deep.
Boromir/Éomer. It's happening folks. Childhood besties to lovers bonding over shared grief and trauma we love to see it. (does that ship have a name? béomir?)
Also some background Gigolas bc i literally cannot help myself
Mostly book canon, but sometimes i use movie plot points when it makes things more interesting. Like having Éowyn be present at the battle of the horburg/helms deep.
speaking of Éowyn I gave the shieldmaidens of Rohan a much more active role in things bc why tf would you have badass fighty ladies and not let them fight.
Boromir has already adopted Éowyn as his cool little sister. Due to his injury he's not on the wall during the battle of helms deep, he's hanging out with her and the shieldmaidens helping in the caverns. Still gets to fight tho bc [plot point]
Cannot wait for Boromir getting back to Minas Tirith hoo boy there's going to be some FaMiLy DrAmAAAAAA
...I was about to put all of my middle earth headcanons that address some of JRRT's more problematic ideas that will be influencing this story into here but i think that probably needs its own post.

Man, I don't know what was going on Nov 7+8th but I'd like for it to happen again haha
Regardless, I don't think the progress is too bad - I've been trying to be really conscientious to avoid getting burn out. So sometimes writing is me watching an 5 hour video essay on shrek, or reading a random manga!
Keep in mind these graphs are tracking my Glow Worms writing, as that's what I've been focusing on this month - so any side writing I've done for like, Refrigerator Problem, Chapped Lips, The Amazing Maurice and His Educated Stupid Kid, etc etc isn't being recorded (shout out to the thousand words I wrote for upcoming Good Morning Afternoon fic haha)
Anyways! As some may know, this is my first time trying to do NaNoWriMo and I've gotta say - I've been enjoying it!! Immensely! I love how it can track how much I write, but I'm sure that's my own complicated approach to statistics cropping up. But mainly, I like looking at the graph and seeing how much I've progressed! Sometimes progress can feel like this ambiguous cloud idea, it's nice to see something concrete.
I think I'll continue using this site to track other projects after NaNoWriMo is done.
In other news, I think sometime this week I'll repost a chapter link to the first chapter of Glow Worms or rather: In the Depths of the Safflower Hills I had fun editing that manga cap, and maybe I can do something pretty for this holiday week. Boh, who knows! 🤷
Catch ya on the flipside!♡
Best wishes, Nico ___〆(・∀・)

I know last year’s nanowrimo you went all out. Are you doing it again this year? If so how are you prepping for it? :)
lolol hi there anon!
'all out' is certainly one way to put it lol. too far? absurd? beyond ridiculous?
sorry to report i will not be returning to that specific brand of absurdity this year. i've had a lot going on this year and haven't been able to write pretty much anything the whole year, and i don't foresee that changing for nano, unfortunately. my plan is to cheer on my friends who are doing it while slowly pecking away at the few projects i am trying to make progress on.
but i will say, in terms of prepping for nanowrimo, i have a tried and true strategy (that helped my write 3 50k stories simultaneously last year! and also just normal single 50k stories in many years prior lol). if you're more of a plotter than a pantser, but you still like for your stories and characters to surprise you, and you don't feel like doing months of story prep in order to bang out 50k in a month, my strategy is this: make a scene by scene outline of the whole story you want to tell. but each scene can only be described in 1-3 sentences. that's it. that's all the prep you get for each scene.
you'll get a really messy result by the time you hit 50k, but that's kind of what nano is all about! for me, i find that having a project length outline with some scene by scene guidance, minimal as it is, helps me to not feel so lost every time i sit down to write 1,667 words. and there's still plenty of room to discover new story as you write, which is also part of what nano is all about (at least for me).

Wayfarer Dev Log 2022.11.04.
Hi friends,
I hope you all had a great October! November’s going to be a very hectic month. Wayfarer is still very far behind schedule (catching up is not going to happen at this point), but I am working my way towards an Episode 3 update. While I’m not participating in NaNoWriMo this year, I am aiming to write 50k this month (or more) to get the next section of the game finished. Good luck to everyone who’s participating!
Tumblr media
✦ THE PUBLIC BUILD [VERSION 1.1.2. PATCH 2.5]
Patch 2.5. was released on October 12. This was a minor patch to fix some very small issues. You can read the patch notes here.
The next public update is TBD. As I want to finish both Episodes 3 and Episodes 4 on the alpha build before updating the public one, the next public update won’t happen until we’re well into 2023.
✦ THE ALPHA BUILD [VERSION 1.1.2. PATCH 2.5]
Episode 3 Scene 1 is still in development. The current material is around 158k words.
This new content has not been coded and added to the alpha build yet.
Tumblr media
✦ BLOG UPDATES
The Wayfarer 2023 Pin-Up calendar is well on its way! The event organizers and I are in the process of vetting different charities. We’ve narrowed down our selection and we’re hoping to make an announcement about which one the calendar will donate to later this month.
✦ PATREON UPDATES
Location Sketches released on Oct 14. This bonus content is a behind-the-scenes look at my planning process when I’m working with big environment set pieces, like Rona’s town square or the Count’s villa.
Hearth & Home, Part 2, released on October 21. This side story is the conclusion to a two-parter. Set at the Spire a year or so before the player character’s arrival, it features Cenric and Varyn. [Wayfarer tier and up]
Bi-weekly progress reports about Episode 3’s development. [all tiers]
Weekly Sneak peeks of new Episode 3 material. [all tiers]
Because I am focusing on finishing content and getting an update out, there will be no new side stories published in November.
Additionally, Wayfarer patrons now have a new, shiny Discord server! This server is separate from the public one and exclusive to my Patreon. The old patron-only channels in the public server are closed. If you are a patron and cannot find or access the new server, please message me on Patreon.
Tumblr media
If you’ve enjoyed Wayfarer, used my tutorials, or would like to support my work, please consider supporting me on Patreon. Patrons receive access to the alpha build, a private Discord server, exclusive previews, bonus content, side stories, and other benefits.
Wayfarer is a passion project and creating it is a full-time commitment. Any little bit goes a long way to help me bring it to fruition.
If you aren’t in a position to support financially, reblogs, shares, ratings and comments, and spreading the word about the game are much appreciated and do a lot to help me out! 💕

NANOWRIMO Day 3 progress report!
Total word count: [ 7,609/50,000]
First sentence of the day: He nodded once they’d reached the quartermaster’s office, leaning against the door frame as the man behind the counter sneered at the very sight of Cloud.
Last sentence of the day: “Me, sir?” Cloud couldn’t keep the squeak from his voice.
I'll probably write more later but I have a lot to do so figured I'd post this :)

12/02/22 Update
Hello!
I’ve not a lot to report this week. I finished the branch I wanted to conclude before taking a break, so for now, I’m taking a little bit of time to relax. But since NaNoWriMo ended a couple of days ago, I figure I would do a little wrap-up.
During November, I worked on my 3 current projects, the Eight Years Revolution, Better Off, and Gonzague. Here’s how much I wrote for each of them:
The Eight Years Revolution: 13 976 words Better Off: 5088 words Gonzague: 23 620 words
I’m really happy with the progress I made. But now I have a lot of material to edit and code and that’s going to be rough. I’m going to do my best to interspace editing and coding with a bit of writing so I don’t go insane lol.
Have a nice weekend!

Hollowed Minds Progress Update 11/6/2022
Hello! I know it’s time for NaNoWriMo, but I won’t exactly be doing it this year. I made an attempt last year and all it did was give me massive burn out lmao, but I do intend to set a daily target 👀.
I can’t say I’ve done anything noteworthy this week since most of the progress I had were focused on applying some more feedback I got for the last update. It’s been long enough that I can actually look at my own writing again without hating every word of it, so I’ve been having a great time both with writing new scenes and editing the previous ones :))
Anyway, what I aim to do is achieve a daily target of at least 1,000 words without fail within the month. I probably should have done this from the first day of November but I also had some irl things to manage, so it was not feasible at first. If I manage to maintain that for two weeks week straight, I might raise the targets for the remaining days. Probably up to 1,500? This section has tons of variations in both routes that will be available, so I know I gotta increase my efforts as well. I’ll still be answering your asks, though I might settle for one ask a day.
Also, if you are interested in seeing more bonus content, y’all might want to check out my Patreon (for those who’ve missed it, at least.) I’m planning to add some additional bits in there before the month ends 😌
So that’s it! I hope you’ve all had a great weekend, and do wish me luck :’). I’ll be reporting my progress on this every week.
